Vampires and werewolves but make them enemies to lovers and have a forbidden romance? I’m down. Excuse me while i go binge the rest of this on webtoon lol
Love Bites is a teen romance story that follows two boys as they deal with sudden feelings for each other while being on opposing sides of a centuries long conflict between vampires and werewolves.
This was a 3.5/4 stars rounded up! I think in terms of classic high school drama, it’s pretty standard, but where it really excels is building up the drama and tension between Mason and Kieran. Obviously everyone knows about the whole vampires vs werewolves debate, but I appreciate how the author adds some depth to Kieran’s character, making his backstory directly impact how he views Mason and the other werewolves, despite being relatively passive towards them in the beginning. There is also Mason’s need to control everything, which I hope gets explored more in the second book because these two really need to work on their communication.
I’m looking forward to reading more!
Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the eARC
I fear I will always be a sucker for a good vampire x werewolf romance, and that is no different here with this graphic novel. I absolutely loved the art and had a great time with this first volume. There are a few things with the plot that I am wondering how the author will proceed with the future volumes. I don’t want to spoil too much, but I do feel like it is a little messy to have feelings for a werewolf that your best friend is dating 😂
Regardless, I am still eager to see how the rest of this story goes, and can’t wait to see more scenes between them because the tension is CHEFS KISS.
Thank you so much to the publisher and netgalley for this arc!
First off, I’d like to thank NetGalley for the ARC!
Love Bites had all the vibes I was looking for: romance, drama, tension, and most importantly, supernatural elements. I genuinely thought this graphic novel was going to be a hit for me, and while some parts worked, a lot of it unfortunately didn’t.
One thing I did enjoy was the feud between the werewolves and vampires. It’s such a classic supernatural conflict, and I liked the history behind their rivalry. I also really liked Marcella. She was honestly one of the better characters in the story because she actually acted like a supportive friend, which is refreshing considering how many side-character best friends tend to disappoint in stories like this. Ironically, Kieran ended up doing exactly that instead.
Now onto what didn’t work for me: Kieran and Mason’s relationship moved way too fast. There was barely any buildup before the story pushed them into romance, and because of that, their connection felt rushed and kind of hollow. Personally, I think Volume 1 would’ve benefited more from showing them slowly growing closer first instead of immediately jumping into attraction and messy relationship drama. Like yes, Kieran being attracted to Mason’s blood makes sense in context, but the insta-love angle felt outdated… which I guess fits the vampires too, hehe.
I also wish the story focused more on the supernatural and magical elements rather than the romance. The world itself had potential, but instead of expanding on that, the plot kept circling back to relationship drama and miscommunication. And speaking of miscommunication: that trope is tired. Not communicating doesn’t make characters mysterious or compelling — it just makes them frustrating to read about.
Overall, this graphic novel had a fun premise and some entertaining moments, but I left feeling like it could’ve been so much more. Still, if you’re looking for a quick, messy, drama-filled supernatural read, this might work for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review.
That cliffhanger!! I need more!
I am obsessed with this. Immediately I liked all of the characters. Cella is so cute and such a kind person. I love that she knows Kieran is a vampire and it’s not a secret at least to her.
I felt the tension between Mason and Kieran right away. I’m not a big fan of the trope of “I hate him but I can’t stay away or I think he is hot” but it worked for them and I didn’t really mind it here. Their banter was really funny.
I didn’t love the slight cheating vibes, but I am glad they addressed it and didn’t let it happen again. Cella doesn’t deserve that, as much as I want Kieran and Mason together. I also wouldn’t mind Cella and Maria getting together if that is the direction it is going! Even still Maria is a sweet girl too.
I was worried we wouldn’t get any action between Kieran and Mason the whole first volume, but I’m glad we got some! It was sweet to see Kieran care for Mason, even if it only happened a few times. I can’t wait to see how it progresses! I am desperate for them to be together. I could see some hints on things to come and it got me very excited. I have so many theories.
I thought it was an interesting take on vampires that you could pick being in the light or being in the dark. I haven’t really seen that before.
There was the perfect amount of angst that hit me in the feels, and I am sure there is more to come.
I am sure Kieran’s brother will give him a hard time as things continues which scares me.
I loved the art style too. The colors are really pretty. I loved that it was so expressive too. I could tell all of the characters emotions, even though it was in 2D.
I am desperate for more content! I loved this and cannot wait to see where it goes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!!
I read most of this on WEBTOONS and I freaked out when I saw it was getting published. I love when graphic novel artists online get recognized!! This is a classic vampire/werewolf enemies to lovers story. Kieran has trauma with werewolves after a pack of them murdered his mother. But he feels something for the new boy Mason who is also a werewolf. I think I got to this point in the series also so it’s fun to see what will be next! I always get a bit exhausted with the back and forth of a “will they won’t they” romance but I have a feeling that something deep is going on between these 2 and they are fighting it. Also I feel bad for Kieran’s friend who is in the middle of it because she is dating Mason. Either way someone will get hurt by them being together.
*An ARC was provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
Listen here; this is exactly what you think it is.
From a Wattpad story to a Webtoon, this story exemplifies the best and most self-indulgent tropes of its literary forefathers. This is visual AO3 fodder and I loved every moment. The art style fits the story perfectly and reminds me of the good ole' days scrolling DeviantArt for art of your favorite fics. This is vampires and werewolves and "fated mates" and cutesy, fun perfectly suited for a summer morning read. This is a callback to the age of the Fanfiction.net search bar and rating your favorite ships on MySpace.
*If any of the above words triggered you (in a good but visceral way), than you should probably read this*
**you might also be entitled to compensations, but I'm not a lawyer, so idk**
post-read review
shout out to NetGalley for reviving my obsession with vampires and werewolves yet again
I haven’t read a manhwa in years, and after finishing this, I’m honestly wondering why I ever stopped.
I’m an absolute sucker for the vampire × werewolf trope, so this already had me hooked from the start. The storyline feels packed with potential, and I’m dying to see how all the family dynamics, secrets, and relationships are going to collide as the series goes on.
That said, I’m side-eyeing the fact that Mason is dating Kieran’s friend while the two of them have enough tension to power an entire city whenever they’re alone together. Like… am I supposed to ignore that? It feels a little weird, but it also makes everything delightfully messy, so I’m willing to see where it goes.
I absolutely inhaled this in one sitting. The artwork is gorgeous, immersive, and brings so much life to the story. Every time I turned the page, I was telling myself to slow down and savor it and then suddenly I was at the end.
I forgot how much manhwa feels like literary crack. Once it gets its claws in you, it’s over. Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for the next volume.
Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group provided e-arc through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!
I used to love reading webtoon stories when I was a teen so when I saw this I was sooo hooked, like enemies to lovers? Werewolves and vampires ? Sign me in!! But honestly I’m a little disappointed, because I didn’t enjoyed it as much as I would liked too! Still it was a fun and entertaining read, and I love the design, and the art that really give it all!! Tho I felt like everything went too quickly for my liking, and some characters missed some depth to them…I think some moments could have been more explained, and less rushed. Tho I still want to read vol 2 !!
I really enjoy the characters and the relationship but between Mason and Kieran. I have originally read this story on WEBTOON, and I found it a little hard to read in the ARC format. It felt like pages were missing and setting changes were very abrupt. Due to this, I am going to have to take my rating down to three stars instead of four. It was a very easy read and I do recommend it for someone just getting into MLM webtoons. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the story goes!
Fun premise and plenty of entertaining moments, but it felt like it could have been a lot better. The relationship moved way too fast, and we never really got time to see them get to know each other and fall in love. The story also kept returning to relationship drama and miscommunication instead of using the supernatural event to move the plot along.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to an e-ARC for review purposes.
Let me just start this off by saying that I LOVED this one. I ate it right up so quick.
The premise interested me immediately and I did not want to put this down. The plot instantly hooks you. I am obsessed with the vampires versus werewolves thing. I need more stories like this one that are fun with the tropes but also have serious moments and themes. I love that this book revives a trope that was oversaturated and left behind. It was super refreshing to see the author really lean into this kind of story again. Not everything needs to be completely new and this story is a great example of embracing the old and the new. It feels familiar and nostalgic in the best way. (If you wanted -hotter versions- of Edward and Jacob to get together - READ THIS NOW.)
The story is so easy to follow along with without being boring or too simple. The plot is straightforward but still interesting and unique.
The characters are so lovable and fun. I felt an immediate connection with them and wanted the best for their characters. The character design is also immaculate. They are very handsome without being “unreal” looking. The art style is cohesive and really makes you feel like you are in this world with the characters.
Let me quickly mention the romance aspect of this novel. If you love a “dislike at first sight” kind of love, this is for you. THE TENSION, THE YEARNING, THE ANGST – this has all of it and it’s only the first volume. The tension was immediately palpable from the first time the main characters met and really any time they are in the vicinity of each other. The artist does a fantastic job at using facial expressions to really show how the characters feel about each other.
I actually started reading where this left off on Webtoons because I can’t wait to see what happens.
I wish I could have articulated how I feel about this novel better, but it just had so many great points that it was hard to get my review to properly convey how I felt while reading. But I’ll just end this review by saying:
If you love the cover as much as I do, find the blurb interesting and are overall interested in graphic novels and Webtoons – READ THIS ASAP.
My rating: ★★★★☆ (4 stars) vampire 🤝 werewolf 🤝 "our species literally hate each other... awkward" okay but... you mean to tell me we're getting: vampires werewolves rivals-to-lovers queer romance AND gorgeous graphic novel art?? ...yeah, i was sold before i even opened the first page. . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. what i loved was THE CHARACTERS. seriously. they're adorable, the dynamic between the leads immediately pulled me in because underneath all the supernatural rivalry...they're just two awkward people trying to figure each other out and i'm a sucker for that. the banter was cute the chemistry felt natural and i found myself smiling through so many of their interactions. THE ART can we talk about it??because WOW. it's expressive colorful and full of personality. every facial expression somehow manages to say exactly what the dialogue doesn't and honestly? graphic novels live or die by how well the artwork tells the story. this one absolutely delivers. i kept catching myself lingering on panels just to appreciate all the little details. i also loved that the story doesn't take itself too seriously. yes, there are supernatural politics. yes, there's conflict between vampires and werewolves. but underneath all of that is a really sweet romance that never loses sight of its heart. it feels cozy funny and incredibly easy to binge. which makes complete sense considering its WEBTOON roots. . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. BUT... i do think the story leans on some pretty familiar tropes. if you've read a lot of paranormal romance you probably won't find anything wildly new here. vampires and werewolves being enemies?we've definitely seen it before. the romance is also just getting started so i didn't feel quite as emotionally invested as i know i probably will in later volumes and because this is the first installment it spends a lot of time setting everything up. which means it occasionally feels more like an introduction than a complete story. . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. overall this was a really fun start to the series. it's charming, wholesome, funny and filled with lovable characters that i'm already excited to spend more time with. sometimes i don't need a story to completely reinvent the wheel... sometimes i just want vampires werewolves cute romance and beautiful artwork and this absolutely delivered. so if you like: queer paranormal romance vampires × werewolves WEBTOON adaptations adorable slow-burn relationships graphic novels with expressive artwork ...i think you'll have a great time with this one. My final thoughts;i came for the vampire × werewolf romance... i stayed because apparently supernatural creatures awkwardly flirting with each other will never stop being adorable. 🩸🐺🖤
**⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars (but honestly, 10 stars out of 5 if that were an option)**
The moment I learned that *Love Bites* was a supernatural romance featuring a vampire, a werewolf, and a healthy dose of queer chaos, I knew it was going to be for me.
And somehow it still exceeded my expectations.
This first volume introduces Kieran, a young vampire trying to navigate life while facing an important decision about his future. Alongside his loyal best friend Marcella, he's mostly focused on getting through life without unnecessary complications. Unfortunately for him, those complications arrive in the form of Mason Kane, a charming new transfer student who seems determined to befriend him.
There's just one problem: Mason is a werewolf.
Given Kieran's family history and the deep-rooted conflict between vampires and werewolves, he has every reason to keep his distance. The tension between them is immediate, complicated, and impossible to ignore. What starts as hostility quickly becomes something much more interesting, creating the kind of enemies-to-lovers dynamic that had me completely hooked from the start.
The chemistry between Kieran and Mason is absolutely electric. Every interaction crackles with tension, whether they're arguing, trying to avoid each other, or being forced into each other's orbit. Their dynamic is funny, frustrating, and incredibly entertaining to watch unfold.
Beyond the romance, the supporting cast adds so much life to the story. Marcella was an instant favorite, bringing humor, heart, and the kind of ride-or-die friendship that makes every scene she's in better.
What I loved most, though, was how effortlessly this story balances humor, romance, supernatural drama, and emotional depth. Beneath all the banter and attraction, there are real stakes, painful histories, and complicated feelings that make the characters feel fully realized.
By the time I reached the end of Volume 1, I was completely invested in these characters and desperate to know what happens next.
If you love paranormal romance, vampires, werewolves, enemies-to-lovers tension, queer romance, and characters who can't decide whether they want to kiss or fight each other, *Love Bites* absolutely deserves a spot on your reading list.
Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for Volume 2.
I am always up for a good vampire and werewolf story. Especially when the vampires and werewolves are past enemies, especially especially when there is going to be a romance involved. When I tell you I was invested immediately. This is just what I needed after reading a few heavier things. This was such a fun story.
Now, I will say, you have to go in with the expectation of this being a fun, not that deep story, but in a good way. One of the plot points in this book is literally called the “Alpha Complex” and it is played seriously. So, go in with that in mind. That being said, the characters are fun, the story is straightforward and interesting, and the romance is great. My only gripes are that there is a bit of a cheating plot and there is the potential for a “liar revealed” plot point later on, and I am not a huge fan of those. However, I will say it doesn’t really take away from the story as a whole. I still thoroughly enjoyed this wild ride.
One thing I really love about this story specifically, is that our male characters are not afraid to have actual emotions. Of course they have the normal angry, somewhat jealous, protective, etc. ones, but they also cry and genuinely care about other people. They understand that their anger and jealousy are sometimes out of line. They are not afraid to apologize and admit these failings. I love it. Our female characters are also really cool, though I hope we get more about them as we go in deeper to the story.
The art style is also great. It is a sort of blend of anime and comic book style art. I like the character designs. Specifically the design of our werewolf. The hair? The freckles? So cute.
With all that being said, I have a few very important questions. Ahem. *pushes glasses up nose, looks at notes*: How could you do this to me? How could we end on a cliffhanger like that? How? Why? Why did you hurt me in this way? I did not notice that big, giant Vol. 1 there on the cover. That is definitely my fault, but I am blaming you, too. AHHHHHHH!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled SO much for DRC. I will be requesting all other volumes that you allow me to and will *devour* every one.
Alicia Wallace has crafted something worthwhile in this graphic novel. Love Bites brings a classic twist to the vampires versus werewolves tales of the past.
The book begins and we're immediately immersed in the story through Kieran's, our teenaged vampire's, perspective. He finds himself unimpressed by the school's newest student, Mason. For some reason, a reason he cannot explain, he simultaneously dislikes and wants to bite his classmate. And, it that isn't bad enough, Mason is getting pretty close to his best friend, Cella.
If all this isn't problematic enough, a pack of werewolves has moved into the woods, close to the place Kieran and his family call home. His father, the head of their coven of vampires, calls a meeting to unify the pack and the coven, enforcing the pact that protects both groups from one another. It is during this meeting that Kieran is met with a surprise, and there are some consequences that will follow with this new information.
The romantic aspects of the story is a bit of "will they, won't they," with a dash of denying feels. It is too soon to tell how deep some of these feels will go, but we're left on a brilliant cliffhanger that has left me needing more. Honestly, it was a fun read, but it wasn't without it's issues either. My biggest issue with this story is how Kieran makes a "joke" about being gay, hoping that it's going to mess with Mason. Jokes of this nature always feels in poor taste, even if the character in question may be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. It was rather off-putting to read; other than that though, I am interested to see what happens next, and I think it's worth a read.
I also want to touch on the illustrations. The artist did a wonderful job, bring life to the story, giving every character their distinct features that make them stand out from one another. I truly love how well the artist captured the difference between Kieran's life at school and when he's at home. It truly makes a clear distinction between night and day. They were so vibrant, and it truly made the story even more brilliant. It's only worth a read for the graphics alone.
Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for giving me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Whenever I see that a webtoon has been released in physical format, I tend to be a bit skeptical. Unlike manga, whose panels are designed to fit on the page, webtoon panels are made to be scrolled through on phones. However, I think the publishers did a great job at formatting the panels and making them flow nicely on the page.
Okay, now to the actual content of the novel. I have complicated feelings on this one. Love Bites, volume one, contains the first twenty-one chapters of the webtoon. It follows Kieran, a teenage vampire who lost his mother to a pack of werewolves. His home life is pretty toxic, and he’s struggling with his identity as a vampire. The comes in Mason, he is newly transferred to their school, and Kieran feels himself having an immediate reaction to him.
He has a hard time controlling himself around him, craving things he’s never craved from humans before. Then he finds out that Mason isn’t entirely human himself. He’s a werewolf, a species that has been enemies of vampires for as long as they can remember. They’re meant to hate each other, but neither one of them can deny the instinctual pull they feel towards one another.
Now, my issues lie with Mason and his attitude in the novel, specifically towards Kieran’s friend. In this volume, he starts dating her despite the fact that he knows he’s not into her and is attracted to Kieran instead. I just found this to be kind of icky, which is my own personal taste. Another thing that made me uncomfortable was how everyone was pushing Kieran to date another character when he clearly seems to be demi or somewhere on the ace spectrum. I just found it to be a little disrespectful, especially coming from someone who is supposed to be his best friend.
Overall, I found this novel to be entertaining despite my little hang-ups. The art is expressive, the plot is intriguing, and the world-building is fantastic. Thank you, Netgalley, the publisher, and author for lending me a copy of the arc in exchange for an honest review!
Tags/Warnings . . . Tropes: Werewolf x vampire, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, demi MC Triggers: Third act break-up: N/a OM/OW: Mason starts dating Kieran’s best friend.
SYNOPSIS: Kieran's mother was killed by a werewolf when he was a child and he's had a great fear and hatred of werewolves ever since. However with the arrival of a new student, Mason, who he can't help but feel irked yet attracted by, Kieran's dislike of werewolves is going to be put to the test. In a moment of heightened emotions, Kieran and Mason kiss each other, but Kieran runs away after exclaiming that they shouldn't have done that.
Kieran's attraction to Mason's blood and appearance only makes life more difficult for him when his best friend, Cella, starts dating Mason. Kieran is overwrought because he thinks Mason is dating her just to get back at him, yet doesn't tell Cella about the kiss they shared.
⬦ MM Paranormal YA Romance ⬦ Vampire MC x Werewolf Love Interest ⬦ Insta-Lust/Attraction ⬦ Low Stakes Enemies to Lovers ⬦ Fantastic Art Style
I wanted to like this a lot more than I actually did 😭 The art was wonderful and worth admiring, yet the writing and the characterisation felt juvenile. The pacing of the relationship development felt way too fast for me and often left me questioning their actions. It sometimes felt like a collection of mortal enemies tropes rather than a realistic relationship that developed organically with internal character logic.
The stakes were also so low that Mason just came off as ultra petty when he would deliberately mess with Kieran's relationship with Cella, as well as force Kieran onto a double date with a girl he didn't have any interest in. Kieran also came off looking pretty dubious when he didn't tell his bestie that he and Mason kissed literally right before Mason and Cella started dating. Although it wasn't full on cheating, the vibes were not great as Kieran and Mason kept having sexual tension throughout the story, while the girls kept being used as almost beards.
Overall, I wish the story and characterisation was better because the art style was so nice. Instead of liking Kieran and Mason, I spent most of the time feeling bad for Cella who was oblivious to the almost-cheating that her bf and best friend were doing.
There’s a lot of depth in this graphic novel and a lot of character development in this Romeo and Juliet story. One the one side we have Kieran, a young vampire whose mother was murdered by werewolves, and on the other Mason, son of the Alpha of the werewolf pack that has just move into town. Kieran knows there’s something off about Mason; the way his heart senses grow stronger when Mason is nearby, the way he’s drawn to him. He blames it on the scent of his blood, how intoxicating it smells, and the way he’s thrust himself into Keiran’s proximity drives him up the wall.
For all his protestations he doesn’t want to hurt Mason. Honestly, he doesn’t know what he wants with him … but he does want. he’s also facing tension at home as it’s nearly time for him to choose the dark or the day, and I’m not certain if choosing the day will cut him off from his vampiric family. That’s probably something that will come up in a future installment. And then his gift. Where his brother can turn into a bird, Kieran has a power that forces people to obey when he speaks, something he’s told again and again he shouldn’t ever use.
So he’s confused, uncertain, mixed up, and trying very hard not to have a crush on the werewolf boy next door.
Mason’s life is just as difficult, though we don’t see much of it. He’s the son of the alpha and his instincts are heightened — even for a werewolf — with issues controlling his temper, his territoriality, and his jealousy. Rather than use physical attacks, Mason has trained himself to be cruel, cutting, and an asshole. He manipulates people around him rather than command them, he makes them feel like crap rather than kill them. And his newest target is Kieran.
They circle one another like fencers, each ready to go for the throat … and neither of them knowing if they want to draw first blood or fall in love. It’s a fun story, well drawn, well paced, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Thank you so very much to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC!
Thank you to WEBTOON Unscrolled for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
• Plot: Love Bites Vol 1: A WEBTOON Unscrolled Graphic Novel is about vampires trying to live in harmony with werewolves by using a pact. On the day of the MC being reminded of losing his mom to a werewolf, he encounters a new student in his class who is considered attractive. Mason is extremely friendly and tries to warm up to Kieran, but they don’t hit it off. The closer Kieran gets to Mason, the more the MC struggles to resist his blood unlike others.
• What I Liked: The kiss scene kind of catches you off guard with their emotions running high.
• What Didn’t Work for Me: It’s a little weird that Kieran more often than not addresses Mason by saying his entire name, which is Mason Kaine.
• Themes / Ideas: Pacts, supernatural beings, love triangle, etc.
• Who I’d Recommend It To: The guys in this are not flat-out gay at least right now they're not; they have feelings for each other, sort of, but it’s probably because their natural reactions to each other are warped by their makeup of being supernatural. So, if you’re okay with that, you might enjoy seeing their push-and-pull connection. There isn’t any spice just kissing so far, so that’s great.
• Overall Thoughts: A vampire, werewolf, and third-wheeling human girl become friends. But, is the human girl actually the third wheel, more like the MC vampire is over time, or is he, haha! The 1st volume will have you guessing with the mix of friends and lovers. Really, the vampire and the human girl have been best friends platonically for years, and then the werewolf guy comes along and sort of messes with both of them. It ends with the two boys having an intense moment after awkward confessions. The vampire guy, Kieran, is a loyal friend, an introvert, and a bit wimpy, whereas the werewolf guy, Mason, is a jock and an extrovert.
"Love Bites" by Alicia Wallace (story) and adapted by Ele, is an M/M paranormal visual novel, originally available on Webtoon. The story follows Keiran, a vampire as he strikes up a rivalry with his high school’s newest student: Mason. Mason, who just happens to be a werewolf with blood that smells divine.
Ratings: Overall: 5/5 hearts - I loved this webtoon when I first read it on the app and having multiple chapters together really makes the reading experience more seamless and enjoyable.
- Storyline: I love a good forbidden romance and this story really delivers. Add in unique vampire/werewolf lore and two boys fighting themselves over what they really want, and I was sold immediately.
- Characters: The MC Keiran is a dark, grumpy “black cat” character and most of the story is told from his POV. I loved his sad backstory and how he’s still dealing with it all these years later. I also enjoyed the fact that he’s battling with his sexuality in a way that felt very realistic for a teenager.
- Writing/art style: The art is absolutely beautiful and some of the panels just took my breath away. They really convey so much emotion that would be nearly impossible to get with just words. One panel that stuck out to me was one with Keiran in class, something triggers him and the next panel is this gorgeous scene of Keiran at his school desk in the middle of a past location. Something about it just resonated with me. I could feel his panic vibrating off my screen.
This is definitely a must read for anyone that enjoys graphic novels and MM romance, high school/coming of age stories, forbidden romance, or paranormal romance. It’s no-spice (the characters are in highschool) and seems highly appropriate for teens and over.
*I did receive an ARC of this novel. However, my review is 100% honest and voluntary. I actually read this before receiving the ARC and reread it again for this review. I truly enjoyed it!*
ONE SPOILER AT THE END OF REVIEW about the end of this comic
Love Bites follows Kieran and Mason, a vampire and werewolf duo who go from enemies to...well, confused for now (haha). Tension grows as the two continue to have arguments, and Kieran finds himself defensive and confused around Mason. As the school year goes on and they discover their true identities, they then blame tension on the fact that they're natural enemies.
I'm realizing I'm struggling to find good things to say about this comic. As I kept reading, I couldn't shake the thought that this work is heavily reliant on tropes and two semi-likeable characters. I don't often find myself confused on if I even want to see the main characters get together, but so far...there's just so many petty squabbles. Most of this comic was watching them argue over a project we know nothing about, Kieran brooding about being a vampire, and both MC's dodging thoughts about feelings. Kieran was defensive and rude to Mason from the get-go, and frankly nothing about their dynamic improved over the volume despite some backstory and conversations occurring that could have eased some bad blood between them. OBVIOUSLY a relationship doesn't need to develop overnight, but it doesn't feel like the characters will develop at all with their actions thus far.
Also, the way this volume ended - what do you MEAN Kieran, after being very aware and sensitive to his past and his mother's impact on his life and beliefs just goes against her one tidbit of wisdom we learned of. He just casually uses his power against someone and it's petty, uncontrolled and I can only hope comes to bite him in the ass and he learns from it. But again, this story and the characters don't see the type to learn from mistakes. I think I'll give the original work by Alicia on Wattpad a try, but I'm done with the comic.

Vampiri, licantropi, boys love?

Bickering between two protagonists who don't know what they want or how they feel? Oh yes, that's exactly what we want to see!
I have to say I liked it, and although there was a lot of back-and-forth between the various characters, I personally appreciate a story more when the tension builds like this until it culminates in a cliffhanger (you can't interrupt a volume like that!), rather than when everything happens so quickly and you're left with nothing concrete to talk about at the end.
I would have appreciated a brief explanation of how Kieran and Marcella met, but their relationship is clear enough to overlook.
Well, now I'm really curious about how the story will continue. I think I'll go read it on Webtoon if the next volume isn't released soon!!!
Thank you to Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Literally as soon as I got the confirmation email about being approved for this, I IMMEDIATELY sank my teeth into this. And now, after finishing it, I’m an emotional wreck.
It feels like forever since I’ve read a slow-burn romance where my heart was 100% invested in the development. Mason and Kieran are so precious to me. They honestly give the same vibes as Keith and Lance from Voltron (and some fics I’ve read HAVE done the whole vampire x werewolf dynamic too). The heartache, the devastation, the heartstrings that were pulled because of the emotional rollercoaster that is their relationship dynamic (hate to identity crisis) was developed so beautifully in this first volume. I also suck at being patient so I may just have to read the rest of the story on WEBTOON because that cliffhanger was suspenseful.
I love the friendship between Kieran and Marcella and I hope that the inevitable angst between them won’t end their friendship permanently. I’m interested to see more lore about how they became friends and moments of Kieran and Marcella as children. Kieran’s brother… well, he’s definitely grumpy, but I’m interested to find out more about him too outside of the (minor) role he plays in this volume.
Another highlight, aside from the art style, is Kieran’s inner monologue. Especially when it came to Mason, Kieran’s monotonous delivery and dry sort of humor always managed to crack me up. His confusion when it came to his feelings and his sexual identity was a definite highlight of the book. It reminded me a lot of Alex from Red White and Royal Blue but also Nick from Heartstopper. The relationship dynamic/progression before they officially get together is very comparable to Kieran and Mason’s too.
While this seemed like something that would be perfect for me with it being a paranormal romance, enemies to lovers, queer awakening story set in high school. It unfortunately was mostly a miss for me for a couple of reasons.
First, I didn’t really like either Mason or Kieran. Mason is an alpha who claims that it causes him to be controlling and frequently lies to people to stay in control. It felt like bullshit and just an excuse to stay in control. I didn’t like a lot of Mason’s actions from lying to other women about Kieran or for using Cella in the beginning. I just really didn’t like him or see how someone could be attracted to him.
Kieran has serious PTSD from the death of his mother and it is causing him to both panic and lash out at Mason because of being a werewolf. Kieran seems like a bit of a better character but at the same time he is also lying to his best friend about him and Mason, which I didn’t like. While I liked Kieran more than Mason, I still didn’t find myself really liking him.
Mason and Kieran’s relationship is basically nonexistent. They are enemies and fighting over Cella and then the next moment they are fighting to keep their hands off each other. There was no actual romantic build up between these two besides Kieran being attracted to Mason’s blood, which doesn’t count. There isn’t an actual relationship between these two, just angsty teens who don’t know what they want and don’t know how to have an actual conversation to save their life.
Overall this was disappointing. I was expecting more development in the relationship and just better characters.
TW: death of a parent; PTSD; cheating (kissed after agreeing to date another person);

Everyone is MESSY. This is definitely aimed at a more YA audience and I can finally say… I think I’m too old for all this drama, hahah. That being said, I guess it has a good representation of high school relationships (if you happen to live in Forks, WA).
The characters themselves are a bit hard to like, especially Mason and his ‘alpha complex’ (please that was so funny lol). I did feel a bit bad for Marcella reading this… but how are you going to get with a werewolf when your bff for life is a vampire???
Story/Plot: 4/5
This is a very fast-paced enemies-to-lovers high school romance. Although a bit out of my age range at this point, I was still entertained and would definitely pass this to my younger siblings.
Vol. 1 ends on a major cliffhanger … WHERE IS THE REST GIMME … ok I might’ve just liked this despite my old age.
Writing/Dialouge: 4/5
Overall good. The use of the word hype made me cringe, but I did in fact cackle over the whole, ~I’m not gay. I was THIRSTING for his BLOOD, not HIM.
Would I recommended? Yes. If you’re looking for a quick entertaining read with lots of petty drama. Would also highly recommended to the intended YA audience.
