The Final Note

Rate this book
Dayton Scott loves three things in life. Mixing music. Producing music. The club scene. He embraces the DJ lifestyle, well, except for the meaningless sex and fast women.

Alannah Matthews hasn’t got time for men. She is on the verge of qualifying as a legal secretary and, frankly, she has had enough of men talking to her chest.

Their paths cross at a house party and they whip each other into a spin. They fall deep, hard and fast. But not everyone is happy. Enter, Regina Escarra. She runs Manchester’s hottest nightclub for her father, Dayton’s boss. She has wanted Dayton for a long time and has the contacts to make or break his career.

A once in a lifetime opportunity arises for Dayton and he wants Alannah by his side. But can she leave all she loves? Will Regina finally get her wish? Can Dayton make his mark on the music industry? It all comes down to - The Final Note.

This is my first read that has an extremely hot, swoonworthy DJ and I loved it!

Dayton Scott, that name just sounds sexy and he very much lives up to it. He works at his uncle's roofing firm but his passion is mixing music. He is the biggest DJ at Manchester's hottest nightclub. Women throw themselves at him hoping to get just a piece of him but he never takes the bait. When he meets Alannah Matthews everything changes.

Alannah Matthews is not looking for a man at the moment. She is focused on finishing up school to be a legal secretary. A night out with her friends she meets Dayton, she is instantly taken by him. She finds him to be charming, funny, and downright sexy.

As Dayton and Alannah spend more time together it doesn't take long before the two fall for each other. Dayton shows Alannah his world and she then understands just how amazing of a DJ he is. Just when everything couldn't be more perfect for the couple Regina Escarra, a friend and co-worker of Dayton wants to have Dayton all for herself. Will Regina get her way and push Alannah and Dayton apart?

I was wrapped up in this book from the start. There is plenty of romance and suspense. Dayton is just perfect guy, even though he is very attractive he isn't arrogant at all. Regina is ugh, hated her with a passion. I laughed and cried through certain parts of this book. One-click you don't want to miss out on Dayton Scott. *Sigh*

I was asked to read this ARC of the final note for a honest review, when I heard it was about a young dj from Manchester who loved his music, I junped at the chance,
I don,t know about you but I,ve read to many powerful CEO,s , rich cowboys, rock bands, ect , never have I read about a DJ,

Alannah is a very grounded and easy going girl with her eyes set on a career in law has a legal secretary she wasn't one to go out clubbing with her friends every weekend,
she studid and worked in a sport shop , & loved to run,

Dayton was a very lovely young man with a love for making music & producing it, & also djing in a night club called lexis at the week ends, but generally kept himself to himself, never cared for the life of women and drink, it was all about the music,

one night they had a chance at meeting at a after party where alannah had gone with her friends, on a rear night out,

dayton , would you like a bud ?
Alannah , no thanks I don't smoke, ( this comment made me really giggle)

there journey from then on changed, with facebook friends request , trip to her sports shop she worked at to them both taking runs together,

this book was a breath of fresh air I loved it, with all of the twists & turns, ups & downs in it, my emontions where all over the place , I was so drawn into this book, it had be sobbing, laughing, feeling happy & also sad,

this is one of the best books ive read this year, totally fabulous, 5 stars

helen j barnes , I loved it best 5 stars ive read from a new indi author can't wait for more of your work

The Final Note - (DJ Series 1) Helen J Barnes 4.5 stars

Alannah is studying law and doesn't really date, she has a great close circle of friends. Alannah meets Dayton at a house party and sparks fly, Dayton doesn't usually date either. Then there's Regina, can Alannah and Dayton survive her wrath ?

I really enjoyed this book, a beautiful romance having that modern edge, back to the clubbing days - I think most people can relate to the setting, vibe and feelings within this book. I found it quite strange to begin with as I share the same name as the best friend 'Corrine' !

I was really drawn into this book and found myself loving every minute and not wanting it to come to an end, the passion between Alanah and Dayton was so strong, oh and the emotions, I felt them all. There's also a great element of humour thrown in making this a really great and well written book. Looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dayton Scott is a super hot, talented DJ. Alannah Matthews has nearly qualified as a legal secretary. When these 2 meet at a house party, sparks literally fly! What follows is a very sweet tale of 2 people falling in love and lots of steamy sex.

This book has everything; hot kisses, steamy sex, a jealous woman, screaming orgams, a loyal circle of friends and a couple who are hopelessly in love and are perfect for each other.

I loved this book, it kept me on my toes making me laugh one minute and cry the next. I have never wanted to smack a fictional character so bad before and then I met Regina! Damn, she is crazy on a whole new level but she fitted in with the story. A wonderful book written by a wonderfully talented author. I cant wait to read more by this author.

This is my first book from Helen J. Barnes and definitely not my last. I never thought I'd like about a DJ but Helen has done a great job writing this book and and the characters in it. I loved Dayton, he's a smoking hot, sexy as sin DJ, that isn't like a typical man that falls into the trap of easy women. Alana is too busy to take time to date, she's busy studying to be a lawyer and spending time with her close knit group of friends that is until she goes to a house party and sees Dayton. Instant chemistry starts sparking to life. This book has it all and I truly think that you will enjoy this book as well.

I loved this novel and only put it down because I was in need of sleep. Normal
words, normal lives, normal everyday living. This was another book which had my emotions doing a 360° swing. Regina woooo she seriously needed a bitch slap. The friendship between the group was a genuine, honest, open one, the chemistry between Dayton & Lana was hot & sexy without going OTT. The pain and heartache that jumps out and slaps you feels real, it was a Lump in my throat & eyes stinging moment.
Exceptionally written and I would totally recommend it :-D :-D

I loved this book! Hellen's writing sucks you in and keeps your attention. These characters are so dang sexy and their interactions are so believable. I want to go and dance with the whole group minus Regina. Lol.

Dayton- a hot sexy dj who is totally swoon worthy.

Alannah- a sweet, beautiful and funny woman.

Together they are hot stuff. A must read!
Put this on your TBR ladies and even gentleman.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, it is relevant for this as I have to admit I did not find the cover appealing but inside is an incredibly well presented story. I was given a free copy by the author to review this.

It was refreshing to read about a DJ, there are not many romance stories I have come across with this storyline and really enjoyed the scenes that played around the nightclubs and their friends.

Dayton is a DJ, hot, sexy and so cool and the main love interest is Alannah, she is a really a strong character who knows what she wants. I admire her towards the end of the story when she makes some really hard life decisions. Can I just say it was fabulous that they did not profess their undying love to each other after two weeks, the author built up their affection and attraction to each other, when they finally had hot passionate sex it was awesome and then they made love which was tender and romantic.

There were some really crackerjack moments that made me smile, her little brother is cheeky and I laughed out loud quite a few times and fist pumped with Alannah and her friends as they took on the bitch. One particular line I have to share which cracked me up is:

Dayton – You always look gorgeous to me, babe, even with your head down the toilet, naked

Alannah – Tell anyone and I may be forced to strangle you in your sleep

Dayton – If you do it with your thighs I will go down without a fight

The book flowed really well, took us through their initial romance at a steady speed, fast forwarded in the right spots and then also provided us with closure and romantic outcomes for some of the players.

Alannah’s relationship with her family is one component of this story I really did enjoy, it was refreshing to read a book where the main character’s home life is stable and she has open and loving communication with them.

I would actually read another book on this couple they made that type of impression on me.

Reviewing on behalf of Relentless book chic’s ramblings and reviews

This series is set in the clubbing scene around the UK and in this book we meet Dayton Scott, a hot DJ in Manchester. As I am British, I really enjoyed reading this and some of the words and phrases used, I haven’t heard for so long so it was like revisiting my youth.

Dayton loves mixing and producing music but doesn’t enjoy one of the perks the other DJ’s do, all the meaningless sex offered by the women at the club. He doesn’t get involved with women as he wants nothing to distract him from the love of his life, his music.

Alannah Matthews works part time and is almost a qualified legal secretary. She definitely hasn’t got time for men but she loves socialising with her friends and spending time with her family.
One night at a house party, they meet and sparks definitely fly!

There’s something about her that Dayton finds intriguing and something about him that makes her feel something she’s never felt before and both of them want to see where it goes.

Dayton and Alannah are so sweet together and their flirty texts and runs together in the park can only take them so far before they both give in to the lust they feel. Not everyone is happy about their relationship and Alannah soon realises that the club owners daughter, Regina definitely sees Dayton as more than a friend and will stop at nothing to make that happen.

As if that’s not bad enough, Dayton is offered a once in a lifetime opportunity and wants Alannah by his side. In order for this to happen, she would have to leave everything and everyone she loves behind and move to London.

Can love really conquer all and will Dayton and Alannah get their happy ending? You’ll have to read the book to find out. This is the first book I’ve read by Helen and it definitely won’t be the last.

5 Stars!

I was given this book to read in turn for an honest review!!!

Drayton lives and breaths music, he loves everything about being a DJ except for the never ending unwanted attention of women who throw themselves at him.

Alannah knows what she wants, qualify as a legal secretary, get a job and enjoy life. The last thing on her mind is men; she has no time for the never ending supply of slime balls that cross her path.

Alannah dragged out by her friend’s to a house party bumps into the sexy Drayton Scott; they fell in love fast and hard. Regina runs Manchester’s biggest club for her father, she wants Drayton for herself and will stop at nothing to make him hers.

Drayton is offered the chance of a life time and he wants Alannah to go with him. Will Alannah follow Drayton and live the dream with him? Will Regina and her scamming ways get her the man she has fixated on for three years?

One night is all it took to change two people’s lives forever. An obsessed admirer and the career of a lifetime are all that stand between their happy ever after. Is their love strong enough to get them through?

I absolutely loved this story, being set in England I felt that I could really relate to the scenes and live the story along with the characters. Drayton is a truly loveable character, he’s not only hot, but he’s also a true gentleman with a great sense of humour. Alannah’s a strong hard working woman who doesn’t let anyone get the better of her. Helen J Barnes writes in a way you can truly feel the emotions these characters are going through, so much so you find yourself crying along with them.

If you love a contemporary, young adult romance you will love The Final Note.

I LOVE this author's writing so much! And I LOVE this book!

Alannah Matthews doesn't have time for men. She's finishing her schooling for a career so she's not looking for love. Dayton Scott has 3 loves; mixing music, producing music, and the club scene. He, however, doesn't do the fast women scene that goes along with his passions. When he meets Alannah at a party, they have an instant connection, and they fall for each other fast. Not everyone is happy about it though. His boss' daughter, Regina, is doing everything in her power to pull them apart. Enter in the job opportunity of a lifetime for Dayton in London, leaves Alannah reeling. Will Dayton be able to convince her, that they are stronger together?

This is a great story! The character development is fantastic, with characters that are addicting. A well written, fast paced, original storyline flows effortlessly. The chemistry is off the charts, making some super SMOKIN sexy scenes. I love Helen J. Barnes writing style, and was cracking up at all the new to me terms. In fact, I'm going to incorporate them into my everyday
talking. I'm so glad I got the chance to read this author, as I can't wait to read more of her!

This was the first DJ romance book that I have read, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I loved this book so much that I had to read it twice.

Dayton is the hottest DJ that all the girls throw themselves at in hopes of gaining his attention and affection.

Alannah is beautiful and smart, she is a college student who is studying law.

When these two meet the attraction is Instant and they start a friendly get too know each other relationship that soon turns in to a full blown boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Things for these two seem to be going good until the envious troll pops up Regina who just happens to be Dayton's coworker and the boss's daughter. Regina will stop at nothing to break up the two, but she is not the only threat they face. Both Dayton and Alannah have their dream careers. Dayton who's dream is his music DJing and producing and Alannah who dream is to follow her law career. What will happen when the love birds are pulled in two different directions? What will happen with the troll who wants Dayton for herself? Can they both have their cake an eat it to? Can they overcome all the obstacles that stand in their way?

Friends Corrine, Macy, Alannah, and Dina are friends that have been out partying. Macy has found her Mr. Right, Alannah is having problems finding her Mr. Right, calling all the men she meets egotistical slime. They have left the bars at closing time and have gone to a house party. Alannah is left alone, who is this hunk of a man that is not leering at her and offering her a bud. This male that she starts talking to is unknown to us for a little while, but once he introduces himself, we find out his name is Dayton. How does it affect Alannah when Dayton does not give her a kiss goodnight? Once Dayton and Alannah start really dating seriously and she goes to the club where he DJ's, the owner's daughter, Regina, who is manager of the club sets out to destroy the relationship between Dayton and Alannah. Does she manage to do that, or do the ladies find a way to turn the tables on her? What happens with Dayton and Alannah? You're just going to have to read this book to really know what happens. Just make sure you have tissues handy, because there are some points where my eyes started tearing up.

Alannah Matthews is about to finish her qualification for a legal secretary, she doesn't have time for me. Dayton Scott lives music, he loves everything about the DJ'ing scence, except the women and fast sex. When Alannah and Dayton meet, they fall fast and hard. It's the perfect whirlwind romance. But we have Regina, Dayton's friend trying to stir things up. She is crazy, and has a bad obsession with Dayton. Everyone can see it, everyone except Dayton.
Will Regina get her wish and break Dayton and Alannah apart? Can Alannah except Dayton's big break and take the big leap to be with him?
I really enjoyed this book, it was the first book I have read from Helen and it wont be my last. It's a easy romance book. The story was kind of predictable which lost it a star from me but otherwise, amazing story.
The characters are addictive and easy going. The storyline was easy to fall into and you can't help but love it.
The secondary characters are funny as hell, and you just want to be best friends with them all.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and can't wait to see what book 2 is like!

Sometimes you get that book that you know will stick with you for a long time after reading it, well this is one of those books. It's so different to what is out there and brings back some memory's of my younger days before children.

This book is full of jealousy, love, laughter and heartache.

We get to meet Dayton Scott, he is the one man you would never dream of to be shy and so unsure of himself. When he gets behind the decks he is a totally different person, he is confident and the one man woman will literally throw their underwear at.

Alannah knows what she wants in life and works her hardest to make her dreams come true, but what will happen when she is swept off her feet and his dreams are coming between hers, can she give up her life, her dreams, for his or will she let him walk to live his dream alone.

If you are after something different, something that hasn't got the millionaire in, but still has all the things you look for in an amazing book, well this is the book for you. Can't wait to see what Helen will bring out next.

5 relaxed stars!

I started reading this book in the middle of reading one very hard, mindfu*kery book. I cannot tell you how reading The final note helped me. I feel so relaxed, so mind free.
Helen managed to make a great book with one let's call it ordinary topic. Boy meets a girl on party, they fall in love, psycho bitch tries to destroy their bond etc. I've read several book with similar topic but not every author has a power to make something good, great with that "easy" topic. Helen did it. And she did it great. This book has it all, the good beginning, great introduction with the characters, good plot, it's not predictable ( i really didn't see that coming with bitch Ms. Perfection).
This is the kind of book that you're dying to get your hands on after long day, candles, bath and The final note
and your relaxation can begin :)
All in all, i really enjoyed reading and i recommend this book to all of you, you won't regret reading it :)

thank you Helen!

This was my first read by Barnes and I don't think it will be my last. A contemporary love story, set in the club scene in Manchester, between aspiring legal secretary Alannah and gorgeous DJ Dayton Scott. This was a really well written and entertaining book. It had a blossoming sweet romance, humour, a despicable villain and some very steamy erotic scenes. I actually found it a refreshing change that this didn't revolve around billionaires or the BDSM scene - at it's core it was purely a story of how true love can conquer anything thrown in it's path. I was lucky enough to download this book when it was offered on a promotion for free, but I'd have been happy to pay for it. Barnes managed to hurt my heart at one point in the book, leaving me with a few tears on my cheeks, feeling the characters pain, which is always the sign of a good read for me! And I have to say the cover is just beautiful, another refreshing change from all the half naked torsos out there.

I'm not very good at writing review - this being my 2nd but I will try! I absolutely adore this book and would highly recommend it to anyone! Alannah Matthews is such a loveable character that you can't help but want her to have a happily ever after. (Almost) every girl wants their prince charming which Dayton Scott fulfils in bucket loads! He is the epitome of traditional, old school lover with just the right amount of cheeky and dirty to make him swoon worthy. What made me give this book 5 stars is the writing just drags you in and you don't want to stop reading for anything as you simply have to know if Regina will get her comeuppance and if Alannah and Dayton will ride off into the sunset together! Thank you Helen J. Barnes for a wonderful book and I look forward to reading more of your work!

Loved this book from beginning to end!! I couldnt put it down.

Dayton is the biggest DJ at Manchester's hottest nightclub. Women try to throw themselves at Dayton but he never takes the bait. when he meets Alannah though everything changes.

Alannah is working to finish school to be a legal secretary and isn't looking for a relationship. But a night out with friends and meeting Dayton could change all of that.

There's immedate chemistry between them and as the two spend more time together getting to knwo one another the harder and faster they fall. when everything couldn't be more perfect for the couple Regina who is friends and a co-worker of Dayton's wants to have Dayton all for herself. Is Regina able to push Dayton and Alannah apart or is their bond stronger than that?? Find out when you read this amazing read by Helen.

Wow 5 gold stars!
I recommend this book!.

This book was a piece of fresh air for me not my normal read, So I'm very pleased that I fell in love with the story and the lay out was fantastic it was well written and just flowed, I was drawn into the book and felt like I was apart of the crowd.
I fell in love with DJ Dayton Scott he is like two different people, he's shy and doesn't know how great he is, He lacks in personal confidence but once he's in the club behind the Decks he just sparkles to life and a new man is born, Dayton and Alannah's relationship give you lots of emotions they have to work hard to be together with a friend trying to rock the boat in ways I won't say! you must read this book to find out. Your love it just like me and to travel the DJ life was fun :)

Omg! I am officially in love with this book.
so well written and just flows.
I adore the relationship between Dayton & Alanah, and the fact that through thick and thin he always has her back.
Regina! Er, where do I begin? She is awful, I hate her, she is slimy, evil and made me want to throw my kindle in frustration at times.
I laughed with this book, screamed at characters, melted at the romance side, sat on the edge of my seat biting my nails, and towards the end I was almost in tears and completely choked up.
I am so pleased they got their happy ever after.
And I hope to see more from this pair, and their crazy friends.
Bravo woman, you have written a magnificent, gripping book :)

I found myself sucked into this story straightaway. The leading characters are adorable. The supporting characters are sassy and strong. There's a realism to it that had me glued to every word, with a gripping storyline that had me holding onto my iPad with white knuckles. The Final Note has it all, tears, tantrums, laughs, love and some hot mamma sauce for good measure. Talking of sauce, two words.... Dayton Scott! *swoooooooooon. This is a 5 star, gem of a read.

I absolutely LOVED this book - from about 35% in I realised I didn't want to read it because I didn't want it to end! The main characters were really engaging and loveable, you find out how they overcome certain challenges and people who don't want them to be together. The story line was fresh and new - like nothing I have read before and really kept my interest! I am hoping there will be a follow up!

Highly Recommend reading this book! Superb work Helen Barnes x

Good story line between a club dj and the girl next door. There were parts of this story that really draws you in. But then some of it was typical love each other but can't be together. Not a bad book

Daytona loves his music. He's at a friend's house and meets a girl named Alannah. She is sweet and kind and has no idea that he may be a little famous. But bad stuff is happening around his place and work. Who is behind it? Will instead then apart or will they stay strong and beat the odds.
