An Alpha for Christmas: A Small Town Christmas Omegaverse Novella

Rate this book
It always looks like Christmas threw up all over my hometown in December. Every shop's windows are frosted to perfection, and yes, couples hold hands while skating on a perfect ice rink. I'd bet someone is selling hot chocolate from a nearby cart, too. My mom's bakery is no exception to the Christmas explosion, with twinkling lights dangling from the eaves and snowmen painted on the large window around her ornate hand-drawn logo.

I promised I would be home for Christmas. I didn't promise I would like it.

The Wilson family hasn't had a gathering this big in years, and in this small town, there's bound to be some drama.

"I invited Trace."
Ope, there it is... the drama, and he's not even family.

Trace Lawrence is my younger brother's annoying best friend. But he isn't the same as I remember. Gone is the nerdy kid I grew up with, and in his place is a gorgeous alpha. He shows up in skinny jeans, covered in tattoos and piercings, with a wicked grin aimed right at me. Oh, and he's got a secret.

Did I forget to mention I'm a ticking time bomb?
An unbonded, thirty-four-year-old omega. Yeah, that's me.
Nothing could have prepared me for a blizzard, my ex, and an alpha who's decided he's keeping me.

Hi, I'm Mollie, and I need a drink. Something stronger than hot chocolate, please.

good story

This was a good story, though the math isn’t mathing.
So FMC was about 18 when she left home, Trace MMC was 13/14 at the same time he has always known she was his. He had a glow up which is a term usually only girls use but since he is a smutty book narrator I will give you that so he only became an alpha 3/4 yrs since apparently that was the last time they saw each other. So he presented as alpha at 27? FMC is 34. After she moved at 18 she met her now ex(cheating) they were together for16yrs? Now given Trace was only just a teen at the time I can understand not trying to pursue the FMC but still 16yrs of not letting the FMC know she was your scent match doesn’t seem likely also to wait years just because she was involved with someone else, if she was his scent match he should have tried to let her realize it. Even if he only figured it out after he presented as an alpha which the author was unclear on the timeline for except that the MMC says he “always knew” it means that he slept with girls knowing he had a scent match knowing who she was. Letting her live a life that “he” knew was gonna be a lie since her bf wasn’t her scent matched mate. Just because he didn’t sleep with anyone after he presented as alpha doesn’t make those others any less a betrayal and letting her be with someone else any less a lie of omission and a betrayal to her mate. This bugged me obviously.
Despite that I did finish the book and otherwise it was a good story. The spicy scenes weren’t cringe like some books I have read.

This book was ok but it definitely could be a lot better. I enjoyed the premise. Omega-verse. Brother’s best friend. Childhood friends to lovers. Two alphas fighting over one omega. She listens to audio books and he is her favorite narrator (under a different name). It has some spice but not a lot. And some cute family moments as well.
But sadly there are a lot of editing errors that need fixing. Not huge things but enough to pull me out of the read and make me have to readjust to get back into it. There’s also a lot of jumping from one scene to the next without a smooth transition. I feel like the author needs a really good editor and a few good beta readers and this story could be so much more. It just didn’t quite flow but I can see the potential.

I don’t think this author’s writing is for me unfortunately. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I just couldn’t really get into it. For a 100ish page novella about 75-80% of the book was filler in my opinion. I think the author’s concepts for books are great, just the execution wasn’t the best.

More continuity issues than you can shake a stick at

This novella is 109 pages and has approximately 218 problems. I exaggerate but honestly, it's a lot of errors for such a short book. I know one author with a 7+ book series that doesn't have this many details screwed up.

What's good - the FMC is the bare bones of a decent FMC. She has major potential and should have been fleshed out better. Hmmm..... Her brother is amusing and her family is nice, mostly. That's pretty much it.

The MMC is ok but not great. He pushes and bulldozes into a relationship without any true consent from Mollie. It works out only because SHE makes it work. Not because Trace made any intelligent or decent overture.

What doesn't work - the ex. His existence is fine, even his first appearance on page is fine, beyond that he hasn't been built out enough to support his continued pursuit and should not show up after that single visit on page in the apartment.
The details. So many details. In chapter 8 Mollie waxes poetic about her nearly perfect nest in her apartment but when she sees Traces house plans she claims to never have had a nest. This is just one of the many details flubs but it bugged me excessively.
The editing in general is pretty poor. It's 109 pages and there are at least 4 points where the paragraphs are suddenly duplicated slightly down page, or the scenes are choppy like they've been cut and paste into the wrong order. At one point they're laying in bed sans fabric and the next paragraph has them stepping into the kitchen.

It's unfortunate because the idea of the book is good. The synopsis had me hooked. The execution is poor at best. If you have very low expectations and just an hour or so to waste, go ahead and hop in. If you want something enjoyable, there are much better Christmas or OV stories available. (Side note - this is a monogamous story, so if you want true RH OV do not pick this one up)

It’s like a Hallmark Omegaverse

if you love Hallmark movies, then you will love this one! Just stirring some omega verse and spice and you have the perfect combination!

Super cute, love the family members and a fun read. 😁

Loved this holiday omegaverse! Trace is ready to get his omega and Mollie doesn't know what hit her - and her ex who somehow decided to show up doesn't either! Great storyline - hot and steamy times and an Alpha who knows what he wants!

I want to like it, but it really needs a couple rounds of solid editing to get to the 4-5 star level. Continuity, formatting, punctuation, etc. all need work.
