The Highlander Takes a Bride

Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. Simpering and holding her tongue—definitely not. Raised alongside seven boisterous brothers, Saidh has little interest in saddling herself with a husband... until she glimpses the new Laird MacDonnell bathing naked in the loch. Though she's far from a proper lady, the brawny Highlander makes Saidh feel every inch a woman.

She has an angel's looks, a warrior's temper, and seeks out his kisses with wanton eagerness. Little wonder that Greer is intrigued by his comely guest. When reckless desire overtakes them, he's more than willing to make an honest woman of her. But Saidh is the target of a hidden enemy, and Greer faces the battle of his life to safeguard the woman he wants above all others.

DNF@25%. I am done. I am done with this book. I am done with this series. I don't understand how this could have happened. Lynsay Sands' highlander romance books used to be really good. What changed? Did the writing just go bad, or did my standards just mature over the years?
description

Sigh. Look, one of the things I absolutely hate the most is when the hero has sex with another woman in the book. I don't care if it was just oral or if he hasn't even met the heroine yet when that happened. I JUST HATE IT. But I still give the hero a chance and check if he's still worth it, like Derek Craven in Lisa Kleypas' Dreaming of You.

But Greer? Bloody hell. This guy thinks through his penis.
description

Really. I, for the life of me, cannot find any redeeming qualities in this shallow, horny bastard. And I did not appreciate having a long scene showing him getting oral from another woman. PLEASE. CAN YOU NOT? It wasn't even fucking relevant to the story. WHAT GIVES?

And oh, there was this scene when Greer first met Saidh, and he got so turned on that he planned to find Milly (the girl whom he has sex with) and imagine that it was Saidh he was screwing:
He was now sporting a log under his plaid bigger than the one Milly had raised in the woods. If just looking at the woman caused that, he shuddered to think what her actually speaking might do to him. He needed to get away . . . and take care of the beast poking at his plaid. Maybe Milly could help with that. He could take her from behind, close his eyes and pretend it was Lady Saidh Buchanan he was thrusting into.

description

The feminist in me wants to kill this man. To cut him up and feed him to the bears, Hannibal-style. Seriously. This portrayal of women as a sexual outlet needs to stop. I know that there are a lot of romance novels out there that allow this in the name of historical accuracy, but please can they not make this so blatant? There's always a good way to balance historical accuracy with sensitivity. Ugh.

*rage quits*

Our introduction to the hero is a blowjob scene with another woman, not my favorite but could have moved on if story and main heroine/hero relationship was good...it was not for me....at all.
By page 80 the hero had given the heroine an orgasm...this is historical romance.

This is very light on the historical feel, scenes and character demeanor. Our hero talks and thinks endlessly about and with his penis, our heroine ad nauseam mentions that she has seven brothers and that is why she is like no other lady and curses, open with her sexuality and body, and generally acts like a contemporary heroine. I promise, I'm not going to get on my soapbox about modern bent historicals.

I started severely skimming after the 40% mark but for a book I wouldn't categorize as erotic, my god there was a lot of sex filler scenes.
If you want to read about a couple speaking in Scottish accents but not get a historical feel, hear about growing up with seven brothers, and simply read sex scenes (I fully recognize there is an audience for this) then this would trip your trigger.

I’m really enjoying this series of Highlanders who have stolen not only their women’s hearts, but mine too! Lindsay Sands always writes a story that is full of excitement, adventure, passion, and her signature humour that I have come to enjoy! I always know that her stories will include laugh out loud moments that I find is hard to find in a lot of books!

My favourite humorous moment in this story was when the Tom boyish heroine is trying to figure out if she is in love with her man! She has a discussion with her 7 brothers about it and you can just about imagine how men describe love and sex!🤣 Lol! It was an awesome part of the book and I won’t forget it!

I highly recommend giving this author a go! Her books are excellent and just so enjoyable! I’m moving onto the next one right away!!!

3.5 stars! 💕 Audio by Penelope Nederhorst was in Scottish accent and was quite enjoyable.
The story was another good one in this new series by Lynsay Sands. It had similar lines of thrill, mystery, humor and romance.... but the humor was pretty solid in this one. 😁👍

It sounded like something I would enjoy listening to but I just didn't get invested in the couple nor the plot. But I'll keep going with the series as I hope I'll find one soon that I enjoy as much as the first one

Summary
Saidh, was raised by some rowdy brothers, but she can hunt and ride with the best of them. When she hears that her cousin Fenella's fourth husband has been killed, Saidh goes to her cousin. Saidh is hiding a secret, a secret that has tied Saidh with her cousin for years. A secret that if it was revealed, would make Fenalla the prime suspect, and Saidh is pretty sure that Fenella is innocent. When she arrives, she meets the new Laird Greer. The chemisty is powerful between Greer and Saidh. Greer makes Saidh feel like a woman with desire and passion. But with Greer and Saidh's desire building for each other, there is something foul afoot. And Greer wants to make sure that nothing will happen to Saidh. Saidh is a prime target of a killer, one that is out for her blood and by some miracle she has survived the attempts on her life. But there is more to this than just Saidh's life. Someone killed Fenella's husband, and the same killer is after Saidh. Only when Greer and Saidh work together can they solve the mystery and find a place to share their lives together...if her seven protective brothers don't kill the man she loves in the process first?
The Hero
Greer MacDonnell, was not ready to be the new laird. And it wasn't a position he really wanted for himself but he was the one next in line for the position. So Greer tries to make the best of the position. When he arrives at his new home, there are some messes to clean up. Greer is honorable, hard-working, and dedicated. Greer does what is necessary despite what his lectures from his Squire about not following the right "procedures". But Greer and Alpin have a strong bond, so he takes it all in stride. What I admired most about Greer was what a perfect hero he is. He is a wonderful leader, respectful but firm. He see's all sides in a situation and doesn't judge instantly. He thinks and ponders before making a decision. Have to admire a man, that is patient and understanding in any given situation. He is caring  and protective toward Saidh.
The Heroine
Saidh is one of those heroines that you meet and you know if she was real....you could be best friends for life. She has many facets to her character and I found her so refreshing. She is energetic and full of passion for life. I love her zestiness and her stubborn streak and boy how she handles her brothers. She has seven of them, and practically grew up as a tom boy. But she wins any tussle she has with them. Growing up with seven rowdy brothers....she definitely gets creative. I love the way she handles her eccentric cousin Fenella. Now Fenella isn't my favorite side character, but Saidh handles her well with grace and love. I love how she handles the situations she is dealt. And she tends to stretch the boundaries. *giggle* Can't get enough of her curiosity, her tendency to wear breeches while riding (smart lady), and can curse like a sailor. Saidh is also a sweet and kind heroine as well. She makes a perfect match for Greer.
Plot and Story Line
The Highlander Takes A Bride is the third installment in the latest historical series by Lynsay Sands. The moment this came out, I clicked it and bought it. I will say that it took me some time to get to this book. I have no idea why, but I finally read it through my e-reader and couldn't get enough of it. What was most intriguing was seeing these two banter with one another. From their first meeting (Naked Greer swimming in the loch) and boy do sparks fly between these two. We also see quite a bit of depth to the story, and I loved seeing their story evolve in the way that it does.

Lynsay Sands is pure talent when it comes to writing romance. I found myself drawn into the story from the beginning, and I found myself captivated by every aspect that kept this story stimulating and packed with plenty of chemistry and action. We have a mystery that comes into play here, and boy this author kept me guessing. I honestly couldn't figure out who the culprit was, and just when I thought I had it, I was completely blown away by the secrets and dangerous aspects that come into play. There is a level of suspense and intrigue. The supporting characters are a riot and cause quite a bit of drama. But not too much, just enough to bring balance to the story. First we have Alpin, who is Greer's squire. And boy he is tenacious like a dog with a bone when it comes to the "rules". He doesn't understand why Greer and Saidh break them all the time. Its quite entertaining, and I love the jests and bantering between Alpine and Greer and Saidh. He almost acts like a scandalized virgin. Then we have the seven brothers....now these brothers are so dang hiliarous and really add the right level of humor to the story. They are way overprotective of Saidh, but they also tend to be a bit harsh in judgments. Which I found quite amusing. All seven brothers are you typical males....but boy I love how Saidh handles them. She knows exactly what weapons to use against them...and it works every single time.

The romance between Greer and Saidh is quite a compelling one. They have an easy going relationship. There isn't much angst at all, its more at easy and calm and I was hands down all for that. Because there is a conflict, and so I liked that they just flowed so well together while trying to solve a mystery. They have quite a bit of strong chemistry here, but there is also a close bond to each other on an emotional level. It is quite engaging to have a couple that works in harmony on every level. This is a highly fun romance that is packed with everything that made me fall madly in love with it. Can't wait to see what Sands comes up with next.
The Cover
Such a beautiful romantic cover. I love the vivid colors used, and such a dramatic sensual pose.
Overall View
The Highlander Takes A Bride is a highly engaging romance that takes you back in time to the highlands where Mystery, Intrigue, and Passion are at a high. This story takes the reader on an adventure with engaging characters, silly bantering, and some intense moments to keep you calling out for more!!! SENSATIONAL FROM BEGINNING TO END!!

The third installment of Lynsay Sands' Highland Brides series features a character introduced in book 2: To Marry a Highland Laird. Saidh Buchanan was among the single women invited to "woo" Campbell Sinclair (the hero of book 2), though her heart was never in it. She became fast friends with the woman who did win Cam's heart (Joan), and the book opens with Saidh leaving Joan's home after attending the birth of the couple's son to figure out what has happened to her cousin who just lost her 4th husband in so many years.

Saidh was with her cousin Fenella 4 years ago when her cousin married for the first time; Saidh witnessed the abuse of his new wife, and while traveling the day after the wedding with the new couple, she found her cousin over her husband's body with the knife used to kill him. When Fenella explained that she had no choice, Saidh helped her cover up the crime and claimed bandits attacked them. That was the last time Saidh saw or heard from Fenella; she was shocked to learn that Fenella had not only been married 3 times since, but that all of those husbands died soon after their nuptials. As Saidh is the only person besides Fenella that knew the first husband's death was at her cousin's hands, she worried that she didn't know Fenella as well as she thought and is determined to get to the bottom of this black widow pattern.

Greer MacDonnell has been a sword for hire since he could wield a sword, and now he has found himself the new Laird of Clan MacDonnell when his cousin Allen is found dead in an assumed drowning accident soon after taking a bride. When he assumes his new title, he finds a beautiful, if unconventional, lady that he is immediately drawn to and vows to make her his. Saidh is unlike any woman Greer has ever known --- she is a lady, yet she curses like a warrior and fights like one too. She shuns formalities, and she wears pants under her gowns so that she can ride astride. As the only girl raised with 7 brothers, Saidh has learned to hold her own and then some. Greer cannot help but be equal parts fascinated and attracted to her, and he soon plots to make her his new wife. But little does he know that there is an unknown entity within his own new castle who is plotting against the object of his affection.

What I liked:
--- As always, Sands delivers with some yummy steamy goodness!
--- The main characters were likeable; Saidh was a different sort of heroine in a good way that added some humor and light to the story
--- Minimal angst between the main characters --- I am not a fan of the "miscommunication" and other silly reasons to keep couples apart; there was very little of this involved in this story thankfully

What I didn't like as much:
--- So first of all, a little Scottish history lesson: Greer is what the "G" in my user name stands for; it's my middle name (it was my paternal grandmother's maiden name -- she is a direct descendant of Clan MacGregor; Greer is one of the surnames used when MacGregor was proscribed as it is the feminine form of Gregor) --- it seemed odd to me that the main male character had what is considered to be a girl's name (especially at that time) since he was of no relation to the Scottish origin of the name
--- While I enjoyed the mystery aspect, the final result left me a little disappointed

Overall, another recommended read from one of my favorite HR authors who always delivers a good combo of smut and entertaining story lines :) This book also introduced us to 7 eligible bachelors (the brothers of Saidh), so it gives us all something to look forward to in future installments of this series.

Plot --- 3.5/5 (loved the romance aspect and other parts of the story; mystery part ultimately fell flat)
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 4/5
Steam Level --- 4/5
Violence --- some but not gory
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

Karakterlerin her biri ayrı ayrı mal.

I loved this book. Lynsay Sands always seems to come up with heroines who don't fit expectations and it makes for a really fun story. We find out early that Saidh has not had the usual girls' upbringing. As the youngest in her family, with seven older brothers, she spent far more time with them than doing girl things. So she learned to hunt, fight, use a sword, ride astride - everything that her brothers did. She also tends to speak bluntly and can curse with the best of them.

In the prologue, Saidh witnesses something that her cousin does, but understanding the motivation covers it up. Four years later, while visiting a friend, she hears that Fenella has just been widowed for the fourth time in four years. Worried about her cousin, and the rumors swirling about her, Saidh rushes off to see her.

Upon her arrival at the MacDonnell keep, she sees Fenella again for the first time in those four years. Though rather disgusted with Fenella's constant crying, she's pretty sure that she isn't guilty of killing her husbands. When Fenella begs her to stay for awhile, Saidh gives in, hoping to help her through her grief. She's also rather intrigued by the new laird, Greer MacDonnell, who she saw swimming naked in the nearby loch. While she's never been much interested in marriage, something about him rouses strange feelings in her.

Greer became laird upon the death of his cousin. He hadn't expected it, as his cousin was a young man. Greer has spent years as a sword for hire, but he is determined to do his best as laird. He has some issues he has to deal with, not the least of which is his late cousin's wife. I don't blame him for staying as far away from her as he can. I also loved seeing him with his squire, Alpin, who at nine years old has very definite opinions of the proper behavior for a laird and has no problem with lecturing Greer about his responsibilities. His first sight of Siadh sends him running because he knows his intense physical reaction to her isn't appropriate, but his first conversation with her leaves him wanting more.

I loved seeing Greer and Saidh together. They are so much alike that it is no wonder the chemistry between them is off the charts. Saidh has no feminine wiles thanks to her brothers. I loved her lack of filter when talking to him, and that she doesn't defer to him just because he's a man. I also liked that, while she may be innocent, she isn't naive, and gives as good as she gets when he kisses her. It was fun to see him try to keep control and fail every time. When he realized that resisting wasn't an option, he took steps right away to make sure that her reputation is protected. The arrival of her brothers in reaction to his letter was hysterical, and her reaction was even better. I loved her comments on being "ruined" and how she stood up to her brothers. I loved the growing of their relationship, as it is built not just on their attraction but also on the obvious respect and liking that they have for each other. I especially liked seeing how much Greer enjoyed Saidh's uniqueness.

Once the wedding happened things started getting really interesting. Saidh survived a couple of attacks on her, escaping the second one only because of Alpin's actions. No one could figure out why she was being attacked, though her brothers were sure that she had made someone mad. I was sure I knew who it was for most of the book, but then questions were raised about that likelihood. During the last few chapters my suspicions bounced back and forth among several possibilities before finally settling on one, and even then I wasn't wholly certain. It wasn't until the final confrontation that we get the how and why that explains it all.

The secondary characters were all marvelous parts of the story. Alpin was really fun with his young boy's view of what was the right and wrong way to behave when you were laird or lady. I loved his running commentary on Saidh's actions when he accompanied her riding. Saidh's brothers were great. Each of them had their own personalities and handled their sister in different ways. Whatever else they did, they accepted her for who she was, even taking the "blame" for how she turned out. I'd like to see them all get their own stories.

A romantic and truly delightful historical romance, The Highlander Takes a Bride was a lovely read. With sweet romance and a surprising betrayal, this book was great and I really liked it.

Saidh was a fantastic heroine. She could hold her own for sure, with her fearlessness and her badass fighting ability. She could be reckless at times but she realized that and learned from her mistakes. I thought she was great.

Greer was also wonderful. He was very sweet and loved Saidh exactly as she was. He was protective of those under his care and took that responsibility seriously. I really liked him as well.

The romance was both sweet and spicy. Saidh and Greer were a perfect match. They were infatuated with each other from the start and it didn't take long for those feelings to deepen. And they definitely had enough chemistry to turn the heat way up. I thought they were great together.

The plot was mostly well paced abut there were some parts that slowed down. While the story never really dragged, it did have slower parts. However, I still really liked the story. It was romantic and included a betrayal that really took me by surprise. And the ending was lovely.

The Highlander Takes a Bride was a delightful historical romance and I really liked it. Romance lovers, this is a book worth the read.

The Highlander Takes a Bride by Lynsay Sands
Book Three of the Highlander series
Publisher: Avon
Publication Date: July 28, 2015
Rating: 4 stars
Source: eARC from Edelweiss

***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***

Summary (from Goodreads):

A bold, seductive laird meets his passionate match in a scintillating Highland romance from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands...

What I Liked:

First, let's get the chuckles and giggles out of the way. YES, the cover is a bit cheesy. Very cozy, but very cheesy, reminiscent of the covers from thirty and forty years ago. Greer is definitely meant to be that big and muscular, but goodness. The guy on the cover is meaty. The cover definitely fits Greer and Saidh though - they are a passionate and steamy couple! But the cover is, um, cheesy. Hehe.

Also, a huge thanks to my lovely friend Racquel for bringing this book to my attention! I would have passed it straight on Edelweiss, sadly, because of the cover. I know, bad Alyssa. Sad face.

Saidh is the youngest of eight children, with seven older brothers. She knows how to ride a horse well, use a sword, and swear like no other. Saidh is sent to the MacDonnell properties (castle?) to comfort her cousin, whose fourth husband, Laird MacDonnell has just died. The new Laird MacDonnell (cousin of the dead one), is fierce and dominant, all power and strength and cleverness. Sparks fly between Greer and Saidh, and nothing stops their passion from igniting. But danger lurks in the castle, and Saidh is not safe within its walls. Was Allen (the former Laird MacDonnell) murdered? Is the murderer looking to kill Saidh?

This book was HAWT, guys. Steamy, sizzling chemistry scorched the pages. Saidh and Greer see each other, fall in lust, have a few interactions, but then go straight after what they both want. Neither of them are afraid to give and take - even Saidh, who is unmarried and a virgin. I love this dynamic! Saidh doesn't see herself as "ruined" after being with Greer - good for her.

I liked Saidh a lot! She is feisty and strong-willed - as she should be, with seven older brothers to fight with her. She manhandles Greer and proves that she isn't a light-skirt or simpering lady - not that she needed to prove this to anyone. She is neither of those things, and she owns it. A but of a tomboy who also discovers some of her more feminine qualities she didn't know she had, thanks to Greer.

Greer is hilarious, and quite likable as well. He is nothing short of an alpha male, but he is also caring and sensitive, and never tries to change Saidh or make her dress or act a certain way. He likes her eccentricities, and he likes her. I liked him a lot!

The romance is very steamy! I have not read the other two books in this series, nor any of Sands' other series/books, but I found this book to be quite sizzling in terms of chemistry and intimate scenes! But tastefully done by Sands. Very well-written! But besides the chemistry - the romance is really developed. It's insta-lust to a progression of feelings. I like that neither Saidh nor Greer admit to loving each other prematurely, and are totally aware of this. But they do fall for each other slowly, and it is very sweet!

There is a mystery plot to this book! The romance is not the only important part of the book. Did Allen die of drowning by accident, or was he murder? And who is now trying to kill Saidh? Is Fenella's terrible record of husbands (she has buried four husbands in as many years) cause to believe that she is behind everything? Secret after secret is revealed, and the killer is not who we think it could be! I love the climax and the big reveal. I was pretty surprised about certain things!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I want to check out Sands' vampire series - there are over twenty books in the series! But vampire adult romance novels might appeal to me, who knows. In any case,t this Scottish historical romance novel was pretty amazing!

What I Did Not Like:

I almost wish there were more suspects to choose from! I know that sounds weird. In the end, there were only three... it would have been interesting to add more players to the "game", to add layers to the suspicion. But then the book would have dragged on. So never mind?

Would I Recommend It:

I really enjoyed this book! If you're into historical romance, definitely give it a shot! ESPECIALLY if you're interested in Scottish/Highlander historical romance novels. I usually love Highlander novels! Tessa Dare has one to be published, I'm really excited for that one. Anyway, don't miss this one if you are a fan of Highland historical romance novels, for sure!

Rating:

4 stars. I'm so glad Racquel pushed this one on me! I wouldn't have thought to download it from Edelweiss at all. I've been craving a good Highlander romance recently! What would my life be without this book!? Thank you, Racquel!

The Highlander Takes A Bride is a wickedly sensual but sweet historical romance.

Saidh, raised by her brothers, has little fear and is ready to take on anyone that gets in her way.

Greer is a reluctant Laird that is taken by the unconventional Saidh.

Saidh and Greer made a perfect couple with strong chemistry and a burning passion for life. When Saidh’s life is threatened it will take everything they have just to stay alive.

The Highlander Takes A Bride is one part delightfully sweet, one part delightfully spicy then turn in an unexpected villain and it makes a highly entertaining read.

I received this ARC copy of The Highlander Takes A Bride from Avon in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication July 28, 2015.

I thought I'd try a highland/historical romance but sadly this one was a big ol' miss for me. The characters never really resonated with me. The romance was okay but nothing to write home about and the mystery/who-dun-it was just bleh for me.

Maybe its just me, or all these contemporaries I've been reading lately but this was a one time read and getting off my Kindle. On to the next.

With seven older brothers, fighting, swearing and riding astride are just natural for Saidh Buchanan. No simpering bit of femininity here. In fact, she can even drink most of them under the table, and where they hold back against a ‘little sister’ - Saidh has no compunction but to win by any means necessary. And absolutely no desire to be saddled to a husband….until she gets a gander of the new Laird McDonnell in all his splendid glory bathing naked in the loch. What kind of feelings did the sight of that massive chest stir in Saidh’s heart and nether regions that made her feel every inch a woman. Likewise, Laird Greer Buchanan is totally intrigued by the lass with an angel’s look and the devils own temper. As they make moves to come together only one thing seems to keep them apart, when Saidh becomes the target of hidden assassin - or is the assassin truly hidden or an obvious choice?

Not only is Ms Sands trademark humor here in abundance, but her ability to create the most amazing ‘kick-butt’ heroines remain at the top of her game. Saidh is a breath of fresh air, from the very beginning when she decides to help out her cousin, to the realization that maybe she had made one of the biggest mistakes of her life. However, with that aside - the plotting was as usual action packed with just the right amounts of intrigue, red herrings, and lovely sensuality.

Naturally, once all Saidh’s brothers showed up to take Greer to task for ‘ruining’ their sister - the laughs were almost constant and a hoot. As for the intrigue, it was both a twist and a very big surprise, right up to the near end.

Bottom line: Sands has not lost her touch and THE HIGHLANDER TAKES A BRIDE is just the ticket for a cool summer /beach read!

After book one in this series, books 2 and 3 have both been disappointing. Maybe it was because the hero in book one didn't seem so sexually promiscuous or at least the author didn't talk about his thoughts of other women. In this book, there was a pointless sex scene between the hero and another woman, escalating it a bit further than book 2. Maybe it's because the murder mystery villains are similar in all 3 books, and each one is formulaic without much of a surprise. I don't know, but I'm glad I listened. I just turned half a ear to it while doing something else. I didn't dislike enough for me to take the series off my challenge. I'm going to put a good space between this one and book 4. Hoping the next one is better.

I loved the sassy little squire, the ridiculous brothers, the mouthy, badass heroine and of course, the hot hero!

Some reviewers we're pissed there was an on screen BJ with him and a random "wench" when the book opens but.. he didn't even know the heroine existed at the time so I had no issue with it.

Since I liked An English Bride In Scotland so much, I decided to give another one of Lynsay Sands' Highlander books a try. When I checked this audio out from the library, I wasn't aware it was actually a part of the series, and that AEBiS was the first book and that I'd totally skipped the second one. But it didn't hinder my reading experience any.

I think what I probably like best about these books is that it doesn't take most of the book for the couple to fall for each other. That might be because they tend to marry early in the book for one reason or another, but I like that rather than spending time ignoring their feelings or trying to win each other's hearts, they are together from almost the beginning and instead work toward some other common goal or solving some mystery or some such thing.

There was a yucky occurrence at the beginning of this story that could have kept me from enjoying it as much, but times being what they were, and the hero being who he was, I'm glad I kept reading. I think it was pretty obvious from the moment Greer met Saidh that he would be having no more dalliances with lightskirts. And Saidh, being who she was, would have handed his arse to him had he chanced it. :)

Saidh and Greer. Loved this one!
The mystery wasn't great, but it did keep me guessing. i got a wee bit tired of Fenella, the main suspect. Well I guess I got tired of the back and forth of her being guilty or innocent. But is wasn't a big deal. Other than that, I really enjoyed this one.
Saidh shares a secret with her cousin Fenella that nobody else knows. She hears that Fenella is now grieving from husband number 4 in 4 years. So she wonders... and visits her to see if she need wonder/worry more. Meanwhile she meets Greer who was just awesome. There one scene where the author introduces him that was kinda ick but other than that this is an OW free read. I loved the way he just falls hard and fast for Saidh. Not insta love but just a love without any emotional baggage to muck it up. On the other hand, Saidh falls into insta lust with him. Not that she is opposed to love, but, growing up with so many rough and tumble brothers she isn't as aware of her feelings as some women.
The mystery of who killed Fenella's latest hubby is the thread that leads the story, but to be honest, wasn't that important. And well, the mystery was pretty OTT and too 'Agatha Christie' for me.
But the love story of Saidh and Greer was sweet! Saidh's brothers lend some fun comedy to the story when they show up about half way through.

As the only girl raised with seven brothers, Saidh Buchanan has never been a conventional lady. She can hold her own alongside the men and has no need to marry, but a visit to her cousin puts her on Laird Greer McDonnell’s radar and she begins to change her thinking.

Greer is wholly captivated by the unconventional lady and more than willing to marry her so he can have her in his bed honorably. But soon after the vows are said, it becomes apparent that Saidh is being targeted by a would-be murderer and Greer is determined to ensure the safety of the woman he’s come to love.

This was such a charming book! I loved Saidh as an unconventional heroine and she and Greer were perfect for each other. I also enjoyed the mystery and murderous plotting, as well as the dynamics between Saidh’s brothers and Greer. My only complaint was the scenes from the beginning which featured Greer’s dalliance with another. I’m not a fan of other woman/man scenes, but I can forgive him since he hadn’t yet met Saidh and he didn’t stray once he had. I loved the fact that it was Greer pursuing her seriously and Saidh wasn’t all that interested in marriage; it was refreshing that he had to do some persuading. I enjoyed this audio and will be continuing the series. I’d recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a classic Highlander story and needs a bit of an escape.

In "The Highlander Takes a Bride", Lynsay Sands delivers another fantastic, funny highlander romance. Her books have the perfect combination of humour, romance and history. This book did not disappoint.

Greer and Saidh were the perfect pair. Unlike Lynsay’s typical damsels in distress, in Saidh we get a girl who can hold her own. Raised with 7 brothers, she is nobody’s victim. This didn’t dissuade Greer, though. In fact, he loved everything about her.

I loved the humour in this book, particularly when Saidh’s brothers come to visit. Their first meeting with Greer was hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing.

“Because I've seen e'eryone o' ye, save Aulay, backing giggling maids into corners and tossing up their skirts at Buchanan. So why am I ruined fer tossing up Greer's plaid?"
"She did no' toss up me plaid," Greer assured her brothers when they all turned to glower at him. Just as they began to relax, he added, "I took it off meself the minute I got back to her room.”

I love this series! I really hope Aulay gets a story, if Lynsay continues this series.

I really do love these historical romance novels on audio. The accents are seriously the best.

I feel like I went back and forth on this one, not sure if the storyline worked for me or not.

Saidh was in the last book & I liked her. I got to know her even more in this one, she’s even better than I thought. She is a “tomboy” which I can totally relate to (maybe not so much anymore but definitely when I was growing up). Greer is completely yummy!!

This was a cute story and there were funny times, sweet times and absolutely sexy times. I like when a romance book has a bit of mystery or action with it and this one was sorta a “who done it”. I would have normally figured it out early on but I didn’t in this case but I’m not sure I totally believed the reason behind why the person did what they did. It wasn’t quite believable to me but I might be picking too much.

Still an enjoyable book!

A very silly (but in a good way) Highlander romance full of attractive and nice, but not too bright characters trying to solve a murder mystery. There are also lots of steamy bits involving kilts. This was very entertaining and often quite ridiculous. Thanks to my friend Mara from Books Like Whoa for sending me a copy and telling me to read it!

After an untimely death, Greer has become a new Laird, but he still spends a lot of time wearing kilt, hooking up with maids, and swimming in the loch. Saidh has seven (yes, seven!) brothers and grew up riding astride, swearing, and generally behaving in unladylike ways. Which makes her the perfect match for Greer, except that they are threatened by a hidden enemy. Silly, but a whole lot of fun.

It’s been years since I’ve read a historical romance book by Lynsay Sands – I think I was put off my one of her Viking romance books that I had read.

Overall this was a nice easy read, however I did hate that my introduction to the hero, brawny Laird Greer MacDonnell, occurs when he

When I read the blurb describing the heroine Saidh, I found myself mentally bouncing with excitement, a sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride heroine sounded ace, and whilst in the book she is no simpering miss – there was a fire I was expecting to emanate of the page when it came to her character, but that fire didn’t manifest as I would have desired. I did like how despite being a virgin, she went for what she desired – Greer. Saidh’s brothers give a light comic flare to the tale once they arrive.

This historical romance has a dash of mystery thrown in, Greer and Saidh find themselves looking for a killer, one that seems to set their gaze on Saidh, It was easy to guess who the villain was, and I do wish the author had given the villain a different ending. I also wanted the book to feel more like a historical romance book, than it did, more worldbuilding was needed.

Ya kitap full of zorlama aslında arkadaşlar. Bittiğinde what the fuck oldum ahahhaa Abileri başka hikaye.
