Daegan Murphy lives life the way it's meant to be lived...not a care in the world. With his motorcycle, sniper rifle, and career choice, some might think he has a death wish. But he's got a family who loves him, team members that count on him, and hostages to rescue. He wouldn't purposefully put himself in death's crosshairs because he knows what it's like to be the one left behind.
Faith exists...
Ferrin Hewitt believes everything has order and her years in the military reflected that. She runs her civilian life as disciplined and organized as the Navy taught her. So why is it that she finds herself attracted to a former Marine who lives his life on the edge and completely opposite of what she believes in?
Love endures...
Ferrin's assignment is simple--to keep those saving others safe. When the worst happens and the blame is put on her, Daegan is the only one to come to her defense. She knows help is never given without strings and when their search for the truth leads to a passion she can't control, the one thing she'll need rescued is her heart.
Series Description: Red Starr HRT is a paramilitary hostage rescue team that was originally formed years ago by two retired Marine Master Sergeants. Upon the death of Catori Starr's husband, Brendan "Red" O'Neill, she took a much needed hiatus to deal with her guilt and all consuming grief. Two years later Starr is clawing her way back and ready to lead a fresh team of five cherry-picked former Force Recon Marines. Red Starr HRT takes cases the FBI and other agencies won't touch, from domestic assignments bordering on the grey edges to missions abroad against savage terrorist regimes. Follow along as Kennedy Layne conveys each of their stories as they work together on high risk rescues that lead them down perilous paths of passion, intrigue and suspense...
Kennedy Layne is a USA Today bestselling author. She draws inspiration for her romantic thrillers in part from her not-so-secret second life as a wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant. He doubles as her critique partner, beta reader, and military consultant. Kennedy also has a deep love for cozy mysteries, thrillers, and basically any book that can keep her guessing until the very end. They live in the Midwest with their menagerie of pets. The loyal dogs and mischievous cats appreciate her writing days as much as she does, usually curled up in front of the fireplace.
Targets Entangled (Red Starr #2) by Kennedy Layne is a Military Suspense Contemporary Adult Romance. It is very well written. Red Starr HRT's 'Promised Land' is heading for their mission target. Only a few of the crew know where and what the mission is. Shortly after they get on way strange things start to happen. They seem to be just accidents or someone being careless. Until one of the crew is found murdered. Daegan is one of the few who knows what their mission is. He is the Sniper for Red Starr HRT. Ferrin works in the Radio/Communications. Daegan and Ferrin soon find themselves involved not only in the murder but each other as well. I always enjoy Kennedy Laynes stories and that stands true for this one too. My only problem with her books it that occasionally she gets just a bit technical for me. A description of a gun or equipment can take up a paragraph or more and by the time I'm done reading and digesting the information I have to go back to see what the action was. Her romance and love scenes are always passionate and on a glorious adult level. This story is filled with action, suspense and hot romance. It will keep you intrigued and guessing till the very end. In fact, even then, you only get enough answers to give you an HEA and satisfy the 'Who Done It'. But there are more questions to be answered. Which means I will most definitely be reading Book #3 'Igniting Passion'.
Kennedy Layne has this knack for telling a story that makes you want to curl up and fall into her words. She's got the talent to get all those little essentials needed for a story to make you stay. She's never overwhelming with just one piece of the story but rather wraps all the parts together in this nice neat little package. The characters always come alive for me, and make me anxious to meet the next one that she is planning on introducing.
Daegan and Ferrin were a great way to move this series along. Red Starr HRT is on their first "real" mission and they are out to sea. Operational. This isn't a practice run anymore. Adrenaline is high in this story and when lives are endangered, they become entangled.
Still not the action I was looking for out of this crew but a good story, well written with a lot of acronyms! Daegan "Einstein" Murphy is the player-player heartbreaker on the team. His dark good looks lured his complete opposite, Ferrin "Siren" Hewitt, to him like a magnet even when she knows better. The team sets sail aboard The Promised Land on a mission to rescue a group of women abroad but the mission is sabotaged along the way with murder, mayhem and mystery. All while Daegan and Ferrin attempt to keep their affair secret--like that's going to happen with these guys! Daegan and Ferrin both have baggage to sort out if they want their relationship to work "all the way".
There was just to much detail in this one for me. the details took over the story. I don't care what the exact size of the brass bullets are or definitions (some weren't exactly correct either). Just not my fav.
This is the second book in the series. You get to know more about the team mates and how they've bonded so far.
You also get to know the hero of this book which has a very hi IQ, is a sniper and loves his motorcycle. They are on their way to Niger on their first official mission. Along the way, he meets up with a one night stand which lasted the weekend,(our heroine) he had before they signed onto their current roles, so it was a bit of a shock.
The heroine wants nothing to do with him or anyone really. She has enough going on in her family life to keep her busy. She lines her life to be routine and not much to upset it. She also doesn't like to be around people which is why she put he hand up for overnight duties so she wouldn't be around most people.
However, what they didn't count on was the heat and chemistry between them they just can't deny. Then when a rash of murders happen on board on the way to the mission, it seems like our heroine is right in the middle of it all. The hero wants to protect her, and they have to tell their direct reports about the their relationship.
What complicates things is when they actually get to the area of the mission, and find things are much more complicated than anyone ever thought.
I like how we get to know more about the team and what drives the business owner and the person in charge of the team. Its gives you a break with the childish antics some of them play on the other. The characters are still believable and likable, but this book seems to have more life in it than the first.
This is the 2nd book in the Red Starr series and it was just as good as the first. The action was non-stop and the characters are very intense.
This installment brings us Daegan and Ferrin. There was a hint of their fling in the first book and now they are on a mission together and the sparks continue to fly. When it seems that someone is out to get Ferrin, Daegan mans up and pretty much takes responsibility for her.
I enjoyed Daegan's character the most in this book. He's carefree and funny, but when in comes to business, he is Alpha through and through.
The sexiness was taken to a higher level I felt, in this book , and wow does it get hot.
Great series so far, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
The Red Star HRT is on a mission and it is one that hits close to home. From Thea tart there are delays and problems that are concerning to the team and crew. Along with the mission we see Einsteins lady that works for Red Star and helped him get the information Doc needed in the previous book to save his fiancée and family. Their chemistry is tangible and their discussions of what they are or are not are a hoot. Starr is a fantastic leader and so is Gunny. I like the team interactions and am excited for more books. The story doesn’t finish the mission so I am not sure of how we see that come to fruition, but I assume we will since it impacts Gunny and part of his why he joined the team.
Daegan a sniper, loves his classic Harley, lives on the edge, family and teams love him. Ferrin is one of controlled, everything in what she does has a purpose, taking her eight years to get were she is now, she doesn’t want to lose it.. Being on the same ship after a weekend together, and a strict rule not allowed.and living in close quarters. Plot was good, too many pages and pages of sex.
Read the first book in the series a while ago and then came back to the second and third book recently. I like the way the characters have been built up over the series so when it is each character's time in the spotlight the reader feels like they know them already. There is quite a bit of referencing to the characters and actions from previous books so I suggest you read the books in order.
Targets Entangled was everything I was hoping the story would be. In this book we meet some of the support staff on the newly refitted ship, The Promised Land, while on their way to a mission. Ferrin Hewitt is a communications expert handling 'radio channel encryption key changes', arranging 'the crew's personal ship-to-shore radio calls back home' and monitoring navigation emergency frequencies. Ferrin's friend Tami has a position in the combat operation center (COC). Tami raves about the "radar's ability to detect and track small targets and queue the new Block 1 Phalanx Close-In Weapons Systems through the automated fire control computer."
Later in the book we read this about the CIWS - "Fire control, prepare to engage fast moving targets with five-inch gun and Phalynx CIWS. Fire control, fix Tango Zero One's current position and speed, enter firing solution for portside battery Harpoon Launch. ECM, hammer those emitters. I don't want an operational radar left on Tango Zero One. Fire control, five-inch gun, three shot, fifteen-degree spread red star clusters. I don't want these guys claiming we didn't warn them off. Fire control, five-inch gun - fire!"
This book has action, romance, humour and a dog called, Diesel. I am one happy reader. Looking forward to the next book, Kennedy Layne pens called "Igniting Passion", the third book in the Red Starr HRT series.
Such is the case in this tense emotional drama involving one of the most free spirited members of Cat Starr's special ops team. Plowing through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the team and crew of The Promised Land are under attack in hidden but lethal ways as demonstrated by the death early on of one of the heroine's friends. Add in accidents that are thought to be isolated occurrences, and you have a mystery that involves the entire ship's company as well as providing the context against which the romance plays out. This author has slowly but surely become one of my favorites and her knowledge of military protocol as well as her ability to put together a complex set of circumstances in a mystery novel has had me hooked long before her previous series ended. One personal caveat: I still wonder how opposite these two main characters really are. I think the author did a fine job of probing below the surface of their collective psyche as their issues played out against one another. I hope these two make it in the long haul. I know they're fictional characters but they seem so real. Anyway, the story is terrific and deserving of all five stars and more. And incidentally, I didn't figure out the bad guy's identity at all. Isn't that the best kind of mystery?
Honestly, I have no idea how to rate this one. I certainly liked Ferrin a lot more than I did Charlotte (from the previous book), and Daegan was hot!!!! The plot was good and I get the feeling that the 'mission' won't actually be completed till the last book in the series.
My problem is with the editing (several spelling mistakes, missing words etc) and over describing of things and objects. No. I don't need to know the specifications of a pair of sunglasses (previous book), or the exact type of communication device they are using. I'm not going to take time out of my book to google a Norma 7.62 x 51mm bullet is or any of the other technical items that were described in great detail.
Will the stuff I've mentioned bug the heck out of me in the next book? Definitely. Is it enough to make me stop reading? Probably not. At least until we get to Trigger anyway.
All in all I'd give this somewhere between 3-4 stars.
Book two and things get critical! We meet the sexy, charming, adrenaline junkie, Sniper -- Daegan Murphy properly.
Ferrin Hewitt has saw nothing but blood and death since the hostage mission to Nigeria set sail and with a killer onboard in the middle of the ocean it comes to a head!
I loved the chemistry and dynamics between the MC's opposite attracts --chalk and cheese but Daegan and Ferrin totally worked for me.
The little Siren helps the Irishman let go of his tragic past and learn to love again where as he lets his little lady to realise it's alright to throw caution to the wind, let loud and be free.
Kennedy is a great writer. She is descriptive and detailed that you are drawn right into the here and now with the characters.
I liked this one much better than the first one, the ongoing plot line is interesting and keeps you wanting to find out more. I was hoping that things would pick up in this one because while I enjoyed the plot in the first one, I didn't like the heroine and the circumstances around their mission. But this one changed all that, the mission is ongoing into the next book but we weren't left with a cliffhanger which is perfect to pick up the next without being lost.
I really liked Daegan and Ferrin, their story was much better than Doc and Charlotte's for me and we get all the action too..perfect.
I can't wait to continue this series and see who is behind all the attacks on The Promised Land and Red Starr HRT's mission.
I finished this book and then decided to go back and reread it! I loved how Kennedy was able to tell The couple's story and inter weave it along with the team interaction and the major suspense plot line. Everything flowed so well that I had a really hard time putting this book down even for a little while. This was another amazing book and I can't wait until the next one in this series is released! Definitely glad I was introduced to Kennedy Layne!
I think I loved this story better than the first. I wasn't sure about Daegyn in the first book but fell in love with him, too, in this one. I loved how he treated Ferrin and how he described himself as her anchor and gateway!!! At times, the descriptions were a bit technical but the characters and story came alive. I even found myself rereading parts before I continued on just to picture the scene in my mind again. Really enjoyed this book!!!
Kennedy's stories have never failed to be amazing for me. The details in her books shows she has such awesome dedication and passion for her craft. This addition to the Red Star series is no exception. The two characters have a connection that overcomes their surroundings and is as emotional as it is passionate. I couldn't put it down.
I am going to go ahead and give this 4 stars, BUT this book took awhile for me to get into. The characters are enjoyable (as opposed to book one, where the heroine really bugged me), it just took longer than I thought it should to connect with them. The suspense is what eventually hooked me and the story started to flow better.
This series doesn't have pages and pages of sex but what it has is hot!! This book has them shipping out...as one says, love when a good plan comes together but when it doesn't it s***s!! Join as our Red crew travels to their first big job. You'll fnd yourself wanting to flip the pages to see what happens next....awesome book!!!
I never go wrong with a book from Kennedy Payne - this is the second book in her new series - love the alpha male Daegan and his love Ferrin - can't wait to see who's behind the problems with this mission.
hmm...who is sabotaging the mission to Nigeria ..murder, radio problems, bombs..all intended to delay the mission. who and why. meanwhile the player on the team finds true love only she's not too sure he's ready to settle down. murderer and saboteur found and his employers confirmed.
Fast paced, rivetering, steamy sex scenes..Action. what more could a girl ask for in a book. A page turner from the go. Kennedy Layne has done it again..off to read book three now..I'm getting that feeling it will be a cliff hanger.
It took a little bit of time for me to get into the story. But once things started moving, I was hooked. I enjoyed seeing the strong female characters in this series.
