There’s no place like seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, at Christmas—and there’s nothing like a wedding, the warmth of the holidays, and an old crush, to create the perfect new start…

Interior designer Fiona McCrae has left fast-paced Manhattan to move back home to peaceful Blueberry Cove. But she’s barely arrived before she’s hooked into planning her big sister Hannah’s Christmas wedding—in less than seven weeks. The last thing she needs is for her first love, Ben Campbell, to return to neighboring Snowflake Bay…

As kids, Fiona was the bratty little sister Ben mercilessly teased—while pining after Hannah. But Fi never once thought of Ben like a brother. And that hasn’t changed. Except Fi is all grown up. Will Ben notice her now? More importantly, with her life in a jumble, should he? Or might the romance of the occasion, the spirit of the season, and the gifts of time ignite a long-held flame for many Christmases to come…

Something old might just become something new…

Includes a DIY wedding project!

Fiona McCrae is back home in Blueberry Cove, Maine, after leaving Manhattan. She is roped into planning her older sister Hannah’s wedding to Calder pand has only seven weeks to organise all as Hannah wants a Christmas wedding. What she certainly does not need is her first love, Ben Campbell who has returned to nearby Snowflake Bay. Fiona was always treated by Ben as the bratty kid sister and teased while at he the same time he was attracted to Hannah. But Fi never thought of Ben as a friend. He had no idea of her feelings for him. When they meet up again she finds those feelings ha pre not all gone away. But he is still oblivious. Until one day he actually sees the woman Fi has become and his feelings change.
This is book 2 in a series and I had not read book 1 but the author quickly helps the reader learn enough to read without any problems.
Very mixed reaction to this book. I really like the dynamics and family relationships of Fiona and her sisters and brother Logan. But for this reader the sexual banter and sex scenes were overdone and boring. Did quite a bit of skimming past them. Also felt the story was predictable and far too long getting to the expected result. Having said that, I am sure there will be plenty of other readers who will love it. So, while I liked some aspects, just an okay book for me.

There are many laugh out loud moments in SNOWFLAKE BAY especially between all the McCrae siblings. Donna Kauffman gives you such a well written story of the McCrae's that you can't help but feel as if they are old friends of yours as you are reading this wonderful story. For me SNOWFLAKE BAY is a fun story but also at times, emotional and for one afternoon, it allowed me to escape to a wonderful small town and get involved in the McCrae's lives and business. Be prepared to laugh out loud and cry, sometimes at the same time with this lovely family. I love when an author can do that to me and I can't wait until the next book comes out which will be in April 2016 and is called Starfish Moon. Finally, we will get to hear Kerry's story.

I’ll admit, I’ve been avidly waiting for this novel since we met Fiona in the 1st Brides of Blueberry Cove novel. I’d built it up so much in my mind that I was a little worried, but Kauffman didn’t disappoint me with this excitingly romantic tale, not even for a second. Kauffman writes with a smooth, easy going style that conveys the feeling of this small coastal town. The narrative brings the town and its people to life while the descriptions create the perfect backdrop. I really enjoyed the multiplicity of things that are going on it this story. The characters balanced their own lives with what is going on in their families, health issues vied with work. At the same time, the budding relationship was so sweet, yet not always easy.

I felt a connection with Fiona’s character from the very beginning. She was fun and funny without being over the top. I found the fact that she wasn’t perfect, that her life was in transition, while also being exactly what she wanted reassuring. It made it so much easier to identify with her. Ben was also a great character to lead this tale. In transition, but of a less optional sort he finds himself questioning things he’d never thought of before. At the same time, his helpful, caring personality shines through, without detracting from the strong, outdoorsy quality that is essential to who he is.

The supporting cast in this story was also a lot of fun to get to know. Whether you’ve met them in previous Blueberry Cove novels or just meeting them now, Kauffman develops them in such a manner that I really felt as if I knew them. I loved the close knit relationships that Kauffman develops throughout this novel. Family, friends, and those in between all play a major role in everyone’s lives.

This was a lovely, emotional, yet always fun and funny novel that allowed me to escape from the everyday into its pages. But Kauffman did leave me with one question at the end, what will Kerry get up to next?

I really enjoyed this book. It's second in a series by Donna Kauffman which takes place in Maine. The characters were well developed. I loved Fiona and Ben as much as I loved the characters (Hannah and Calder) in her first book. There were laugh out load moments and some very solemn ones as well. The storyline flowed smoothly throughout the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this book.

This second book in the Brides of Blueberry Cove is fantastic! This is a wonderful small town romance that gives us Fiona and Ben's story. They've known each other their whole lives. She was always his best friends little sister but there is nothing little about her now! They both left Blueberry Cove but Fiona has moved back to work at a slower pace in a style that is truly her. She's done with city living. Ben is back due to family illness. He doesn't plan on staying but selling the family tree farm just doesn't seem right. Add to that his attraction to Fiona and what they could possibly have and staying is looking better, but he has a business that has really taken off. Can they find a compromise that will make everyone happy?

I highly recommend this one.

The heart wants what it wants is an adage that fits this story perfectly. Fiona left home with a broken heart in need of a fresh start. Sick of living in her sisters shadow and pining for the boy she would never have. Years later she returns and realizes nothing has changed. The reasons she left still exist. Snowflake Bay is a romance that entails more than just a relationship that was never given a chance to flourish. It is a look at the relationship between two sisters. A beautiful story that is full of heart and is a wonderful holiday read.

I really enjoyed being back in Blueberry Cove in Snowflake Bay by Donna Kauffman. It is a place I'd love to be, and Donna's descriptive writing makes it easy to envision and easy to feel the cold winter weather!

Fiona is back in her home town of Blueberry Cove to start her business fresh, and do what she wants to do. As she tries to settle in, she is also planning her sister's Christmas wedding. Fiona is busy, and the last person she expects to run into again is Ben, her brother's friend. The person she always secretly loved. He is an unexpected complication in her new life, because some feelings really don't go away!

Ben is back in Blueberry Cove temporarily. He has family issues and a family business to deal with, and is definitely not looking for any other complications! Suddenly though the Fiona he's always thought of as just his friends little sister is looking like so much more. They have a history of teasing and name calling, haven't seen each other for a long time, and these new feelings are ruling Ben's mind.

As they both struggle with issues past and present, a new kind of relationship starts to form. With angst, family interference, and the chance of a future so remote, will they take that leap of faith and take a chance on each other?

Watching Ben and Fiona together as adults was an interesting journey. I liked that they already knew each other, and they have more in common in the present day than they think. Both of them are dealing with big life changes and uncertainties. I really liked both of these characters. They are both strong, independent, and caring. I liked learning about who they were and their current circumstances, their feelings, and how they were each trying to cope with such big, real life issues. I will be honest and say that I found it a bit much that there seemed to be a lot of fixation on elements of their past relationship as young teenagers, and I felt like parts of this got blown way out of proportion and took over too much of the story of Ben and Fiona. This was a bit distracting and I felt like it took away from the adults they are now. However once this was put more on the back burner, the plot was easier to fall back into and enjoy their journey to the future, what ever it might hold.

I really liked Fiona's family, I felt like they really showed strength, loyalty, and love. They made me want to be part of this family! They are all very much a part of Fiona and Ben's story, and I liked how these characters are woven into the plot. They are all strong secondary characters and I can't wait to read more about Fiona's sister Kerry!

Snowflake Bay is well paced and Donna's writing is smooth and easy to read. Not a typical Christmas book, Snowflake Bay is a great winter time read to curl up with that I'd recommend to any romance reader.

I really enjoyed this story. In fact I read the first 70% of the book in one sitting and finished it up the next day. I wouldn’t say this will put you in the holiday spirit because other than a couple dozen mentions of Christmas there really isn’t much of the holiday. But it is perfect for a cozy autumn read.

This is the second of the Brides of Blueberry Cove series but we have been to Blueberry Cove a number of times with the Bachelors of Blueberry Cove. We met Fiona in the first book (Sea Glass Cove) of the series when Hannah, Fiona’s older sister, met Calder. But now it is Fiona’s turn. And in comes Ben or should I say here he comes again.

Ben was practically a part of the McCrae family growing up. Ben is Logan’s best friend and while growing up he had a crush on Hannah. But Fiona always had a crush on Ben he just never noticed her for more than Logan’s bratty little sister but now he has seen the grown up Fiona and boy did he notice her. I loved the play between the two of them. They joke so easily together. Fiona is really quick witted which I enjoy and Ben flirts with humor like no other. They are meant for each other but like a typical man he doesn’t see it until years after she does.

There were a couple of little things that I would have changed about the book but not a lot. I wish we had heard Ben already being interested in Fi before seeing her in the “Hall of Fame Knit” because it seemed a bit superficial to be interested in her right after seeing her body. But that is ok. And I wish there had been a scene between Ben and Logan as a follow up at the end of the book because I thought the basketball scene was pretty important at the beginning of the relationship between Fi and Ben. It would have been great to see another conversation where Ben explains his feelings and maybe gets an approval. But again that is ok.

I would recommend this book to anyone. Even if you haven’t read the rest of the series it can be a stand alone but you will get hook by the story and want to backtrack and read them all.

SNOWFLAKE BAY is a must read for lovers of small town romance readers who love Holiday storylines. This story is a perfect blend of warmth, humor, family, and of course love.
Fiona McCrae returns home after living in Manhattan. Her nemesis and former crush Ben is in town for a while helping out his parent's Christmas tree business. Once upon a time he had a crush on Hannah, his best friend's sister Hannah who is Fi's older sister, too. Ben didn't notice Fi as more than a pest then, but he notices her now. At first, Fi isn't interested...much. But circumstances keep them crossing paths and soon she can't help but feel the sparks between them.
I love Fi and the way her mind works. She is so funny as she tries to put together Hannah's Christmas wedding in just a few weeks. Ben is smart, good looking, and the perfect match for Fi. Ms Kauffman has written such playful dialogue between Fi and Ben, as well as plenty of the rest of the lovable cast of characters. All in all, I wouldn't mind returning to Blueberry Cove and Snowflake Bay myself!

Donna Kauffman has always been one of my favorite authors and I have loved her Blueberry Cove series. Snowflake Bay being the 2nd book in the Brides of Blueberry Cove is no exception. Donna has written a really beautiful story.

Fiona caught my attention from the start. Being a 2nd time bridesmaid and also the wedding planner for her sister Hannah's wedding, she is a mess. Added on to the stress is Ben, her brother's best friend and the boy she had a crush on when she was young. Ben had never noticed her and instead, had had a thing for her sister Hannah instead.

I really loved the chemistry between Fiona and Ben. When Ben finally notices Fiona, and also realised how much he had hurt her unintentionally, sparks fly between them. But Ben is in Blueberry Cove only for the time being but Fiona is set to stay. How will they overcome the obstacles and stay together?

A beautiful story that will leave you laughing and tearing. Can't wait for Kerry's story.

Fun story with some really great banter. Heroine had a crush on the hero, way back when, but he treated her like a bratty little sister because he had a crush on the older sister. And was their brother's best friend. Now she's left New York and come home to their town in northern Maine and has stumbled upon him again. And things progress. It's not sudden woo the instant they see each other again, but various things progress pretty quickly. It's a fun read. I enjoyed it a lot.

I wasn't sure if I was gonna continue reading this book at first. There was way too much descriptive paragraphs and too little dialogue. I decided to trudge through it. It is a cute, heartwarming story. I have not read the 1st one in the series, but got the jest of it all. I have the next one to read and will give it a go as well.

Más bien 2.5 estrellas.

Me ha gustado un poco más que el primer libro. Al final se me ha hecho un poco largo. Historia entretenida y poco más. Eso sí, me ha picado la curiosidad lo suficiente como para que quiera terminar la trilogía.

We have all had a mad crush at one time or another. When it’s your older brother’s best friend. Yet, he was also like their big brother. Ben Campbell was at their home as much as his own with her brother in tow. When he was at her house he was there to pine over her older sister Hannah. He called Fiona “Fireplug Fi,” the bratty little sister always giving as good as she got. Yet, Kerry the real youngest sister and supper pest of the family he babies to no end. Finding a kindred spark in Ben, who’d teased her and ruffled her hair, yet it was always in an affectionate, sort of admiring, you-go-girl kind of way. For her not so much she was the short, fat, red face younger sister.
The whole time he never saw her, Fiona McCrae, who was really only four years younger than he was but it may as well have been a hundred. All he ever thought of up until the day he left for college was Hannah. That was the day she decided to put her feelings away for Ben. Which became very easy since he never came home to hometown which was inland from where their family’s lighthouse stood in Blueberry Cove, Maine. He only did holidays but not on the days so she had free rein to come and go to the family functions.
Fiona was now on her way to her childhood home it appears another sibling was getting married and she was being put in charge of this one too. This one would be easier since she has been back in the Cove for a month now. But since she did such a good job of her brother Logan’s and Alex’s wedding she was now in charge of Hannah’s. No not to Ben. She really didn’t want to do this wedding she really wanted to get started on her life in the cove and she needed to put her plan together. When she arrived at the house she was layered in clothes and trying to untangle when she heard someone behind her say something like, “You caught there?” She froze. Then gets her by the shoulders and turns her around. She closes her eyes as tight as she can to ward off the fact that the man she hadn’t seen in years was now trying to untangle her scarf. When she opens her eyes she won’t even look at him.
His nickname not only angered her it embarrassed her because she knew at any moment he would use it and he did. To him she would always be too short, fat, curly haired, and the little pesky sister of his best friend. So, she squared her shoulders and gave it back to him. Why disappoint.
Can she be anything other than “Fireplug Fi” to him? Would she want him now if he finally saw her? Would he want her even if he did see her as a woman? All good questions. This family saga and oh so funny love story talks to how bullies even well-meaning ones can hurt you. Not to mention it talks to the fact that families small or large are all important. Fiona McCrae and Ben Campbell have known each other forever, it seems. She's had a crush on Ben since she was a little girl and he was her brother's best friend. Of course, he never thought of her as anything but a pest back then and teasingly called her Fireplug Fi because she was short and not exactly heavy, but sturdy, shall we say?

Well, now she's all grown up and even though she's still short, the sturdiness has turned to curves. When she moves home to Blueberry Cove, Maine, leaving her thriving design business in Manhattan, she finds she's needed to help plan her sister, Hannah's Christmas wedding in less than two months. Fiona has no idea that Ben is in nearby Snowflake Bay running his parents' Christmas tree farm because they moved south for his father's health. So when she runs into him at her family's home, it's a complete and mortifying surprise as her scarf tangles in her hair and she can't get her coat undone when she'd have much preferred to look cool and put together in front of him.

Ben's still teasing her like they were kids and still thinks of himself as her big brother's friend. And when he unwittingly hurts her feelings with his teasing, he feels terrible that his words caused her real pain and tries to make things right between them. Later, when he sees her in a particularly clingy sweater, he finds himself tongue-tied and realizes that Fi is all grown up now. It seems that wherever Fiona goes, a series of mishaps follow and Ben begins to find being with her a true delight. And Fiona couldn't be happier that her childhood crush has finally noticed her!

Both Fiona and Ben are wonderfully developed, likeable characters and you can't help but root for them to work things out. But Ben's landscape design business is in Rhode Island and he's not sure what he's going to do with his parents' tree farm so that he can still continue to run his business and keep the people who work for him employed. And how can he find out if he and Fi could have a lasting relationship if she stays in Blueberry Cove and he has to eventually return to Rhode Island?

This is a wonderfully well written and fun book for the Christmas season and there are lots of fun and poignant moments with all the McCraes. So grab yourself a cup of tea or a glass of wine, a cozy throw, curl up in a comfy chair and enjoy!

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

Fiona is excited to be home in Blueberry Cove, where she can showcase her signature rustic vintage style with her interior design business. She has just finished planning older brother Logan’s wedding when her sister Hannah announces her own engagement – with a Christmas wedding in seven weeks, planned by Fiona! With winter coming to Maine, Fiona hadn’t planned on her business rolling until spring, but she still has a lot to do on top of the wedding. When her childhood crush once again unknowingly crushes her spirit using a despised childhood nickname, the tension between the two causes wedding tension, as Ben is her brother’s best friend, enmeshed in Fiona’s family life. In the process of apologizing, Ben realizes that gangly, sisterly Fiona of twenty years ago is now a curvy, bright, independent woman. Their relationship begins to change and deepen when they need each others’ support as friends through a family medical crisis and establishing routines in their individual businesses.

Readers who have visited Blueberry Cove through either the Bachelors or Brides of Blueberry Cove series will not be disappointed in Snowflake Bay. All of our favorite characters are there, sitting around the bar at the Rusty Puffin, visiting the local diner and watching growth in the shipyard. Fiona and Ben are very real, without a lot of silly miscommunication issues and they are able to get over little slurs or hurt feelings much better than is often seen in a romance. I enjoyed Fiona’s decorating style and got some fun ideas from her to use in my own home, and both Ben and Fiona were very relatable to me as they dealt with aging family members and all that can entail.

In addition to a great relatable story, Donna Kauffmann gives readers the recipe for a champagne wedding cake with cherry pie filling, that she makes herself. Not being a cherry fan, I might substitute blueberries, but it sounds scrumptious! One does not need to have read any of the other Blueberry Cove books to enjoy Snowflake Bay, but once you visit you will want to keep going back. I am excited for Kerry, the last single McCrae in Blueberry Cove, to share her story in Starfish Moon, which will be out in May.

"Snowflake Bay" by Donna Kauffman

My Thoughts.....

I loved this Christmas holiday contemporary romance read that had several things going on in this well written story that will keep your attention all the way to the end. We find Fiona was back in her home town of Blueberry Cove. Maine [small town] for her sister Hannah's Christmas wedding and since she was now staying and opening up her new shop [Fiona McCrae Interiors]. What will happen when Fiona who was nicknamed Fireplug Fi by a a old childhood friend ....Ben who was her brothers Logan's best friend was also back in town working at his family business? There will be a lots going on in this story...from upcoming nuptials, old friends and family getting back together to even business concerns. What will happen as Ben sees Fiona as a a woman and not just 'Fireplug Fi? Will they become more than just friends as Fiona learns that Ben's become far greater than the boy she had a crush on? I loved how this author gives the reader such a well written story about this McCrae family who were truly there for each other along with some other very interesting characters that will keep you turning the pages until the end. Be ready for catching up with the Cove residents that are well developed, likable, well portrayed and believable that will keep the reader engaged in it all.

This is the second novel in this series..'The Brides of Blueberry Cove #2 ....which deals mainly with Fiona and Ben. I would suggest that even though its a standalone read I would read the first series to truly understand how well this storyline is so well written. I truly loved that train ride that Ben and Fiona took during the holidays ...what chemistry, definitely leaving you saying WoW! Now, to learn just what I am talking about you will have to pick up "Snowflake Bay" to see how well this author presents it to the readers. Now, I will be ready for this next series featuring Kerry McCrae.

This is the story of Fiona McCrae. “There should be a rule book……The Bridesmaid Rules…….Rule No. 1:No one should have to be a bridesmaid more than once a year, especially if said bridesmaid has yet to be a bride herself” And so this story begins.
Fiona has sold her award winning interior design business in Manhattan sample binders and all. She has also moved back home to help her sister Hannah plan her wedding. She has grown tired of the type of decorating she has been doing in Manhattan, snobby chic for all of those for all of those “I can do better than you” clients she has been handling. She wants to decorate in her own style, warm and homey. However, first things first, she needs to help Hannah plan her wedding. Did I mention they have less than two months to do so? “Rule # 3: It has to be above freezing to have a wedding.” She arrives at her sister-in-laws to have a planning meeting when she hears that voice. The voice of the man that she has secretly been in love with for over ten years, Ben Campbell. Ben, her brother’s best friend. One of the reasons she moved away. Watching him crush over her older sister. She could not do it anymore. “Fireplug?” The nickname still hurts!
Come enjoy this emotional rollercoaster ride. Read how Fi and Ben both learn how to pull their foot out of their mouths. Yes, Fi finds herself putting her foot in as well. I love the way Ms. Kauffman writes this story and all of the emotions that she brings out in the Fi and Ben. One of my favorite parts is when Fi goes to his cabin right before the snowstorm and…… No, I refuse to give anything away. You will need to read this book to find out what happens that night.
I want to thank Kensington Publishing for and NetGalley for the ARC of “Snowflake Bay”. I want to thank Ms. Donna Kauffman for the wonderfully delightful story in “Snowflake Bay”. I wish I had even half of the imagination that it takes to write such a stupendous story. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Kauffman’s books.

Thank you for reading my review. Happy reading.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I really, really enjoyed this story. I would highly recommend you read the first book in the series, Sea Glass Sunrise, before you read this, as the characters, and their back stories are there. That said, this is such a good read that you could still love it without - but why miss out?

Whilst I found the first one to be romantic, evocative and mystery laden, this one had a wonderful undercurrent of humour. I really laughed out loud in a few places - caught by surprise at the fun being had. It was a gorgeous romance of an awakening variety, even for Fi, who had crushed on Ben forever.

We had plenty of time with the characters from the first book, and caught up on the events in this little piece of Maine which houses such a cool group of people.

The camaraderie between the two leads, added to the romance, and the developing relationship unfolds in a beautifully intense and perfectly right way. I was completely invested in its success.

Now to find out what Kerry has been hiding ... I do hope Ms Kauffman is busy figuring it all out!

Donna Kauffman has done it again. Snowflake Bay is a great book with a wonderful story about family and coming home. I am a big fan of the Brides of Blueberry Cove series that Donna has written. I also liked the Bachelors of Blueberry Cover Series. Blueberry Cove seems like a really nice small town that cares about family and each other.
This story has it all. You will laugh, cry and read faster to see what is going to happen. I this book you meet Ben who has been like a member of the McCrae family since they were all younger. He is Fiona \’s brother best friend. Fiona has had a crush on him since she was young. Now they both come back home. They both have family to take care and decisions to make. It is so fun to see them find their way to each other now that they are adults. It is also nice to keep up with all the other McCrae siblings and watch that family grow and become stronger.
I am looking forward to Kerry McCrae’s story and catching up with what is happening with the other 3 McCrae siblings.

What can I say, I enjoy nothing more than romance, especially through the holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Snowflake Bay was one of those stories I didn't want to put down, nor did I want it to end. Donna Kauffman does not disappoint in capturing the characters and surroundings of the setting for The Brides of Blueberry Cove series. Snowflake Bay is the second in the trilogy, but can most definitely be read on its own.

From the first chapter of Snowflake Bay, through the relationship, adventures, and chaos of Fiona and Ben, to the very last pages, Donna Kauffman's second book in The Brides of Blueberry Cove gave me that happy-warm-fuzzy feeling. I laughed out loud, at Ben's first introduction into the story, "I've got bolt cutters in my truck. We could just cut you out." through the ongoing chaos that follows Fiona around.

A very entertaining and enjoyable read that left me wanting more. Looking forward to the third book in this series, Starfish Moon, and the continuing story of the McCrae family.

This is the second book in the Brides of Blueberry Cove. It's the story of Fiona and Ben. As with all Donna Kauffman books it's a very good read. I loved the small town feel to the book and the banter between Fiona and Ben, who have known each other since childhood and finally see their way to each other. Fiona moves back to the Cove from New York to change the focus of her work back to a slower pace and one of the first things that happens Is she runs into Ben and all her childhood memories come rushing back. She had a crush on him as a kid but he had a crush on her older sister, who is now engaged. Fiona's feelings return and then one day they run into each other and he sees her in a way different light then he had ever before. She is no longer the bratty sister of his best friend, but she is someone who interests him. It's a sweet story with just the right amount of hotness thrown in. Now I can't wait for the third book in the series.

Donna Kauffman has another winner with Snowflake Bay. This is the 2nd book in the Brides of Blueberry Cove series.

Ben and Fiona have known each other all of their lives. Fiona had a crush on Ben as a kid and when she runs into him again all of those memories coming flooding back in. Ben always had a crush on one of Fiona’s sisters but suddenly he is seeing Fiona as a grown woman and not the bratty kid that he use to pick on and call names. When Ben overhears how his nickname hurt Fiona he sets out to apologize and prove to her that he see’s here differently now.

You will find yourself smiling and laughing throughout Snowflake Bay, because Fiona is always embarrassing herself around Ben and he always seems to be around to come to her rescue.

I can’t wait to read Starfish Moon which will be coming out in 2016.

ARC provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

Donna Kauffman has created a wonderful town with several series that are true love stories. With the Christmas holiday taking center stage, Hannah's wedding is being planned by her sister, Fiona who runs into her first love just days after moving back to Blueberry Cove. A great little read with love and good feelings abounding. Enjoy another great book by one of my favorite authors.

I loved this friends-to-lovers story. Fiona sold her interior design business in Manhattan and returned to Blueberry Cove to get back to her design roots. In the previous book, Sea Glass Sunrise, she was involved in planning her brother Logan's wedding to Alex and had a front-row seat to sister Hannah's romance with Calder. Now Hannah wants Fiona to plan her Christmas wedding, which is only seven weeks away. This is on top of setting up her new business. The last thing she needs is for her schoolgirl crush, Ben, to reappear in Blueberry Cove. Ben, her brother's best friend, only had eyes for her sister Hannah back then.

Ben has a successful landscaping business in Rhode Island, but when his father's health issues force an early retirement, Ben comes back to run the family Christmas tree farm for the holidays. One of his first stops is to see Logan and his wife, Alex, where he also runs into Fiona. He always thought of her as Logan's bratty little sister, who he teased unmercifully. He still refers to her by the nickname "Fireplug Fi," a name she understandably hates.

The first meeting between Fiona and Ben was funny and sad. Poor Fiona was tangled up in her coat and scarf, and who came to her rescue but Ben? She's already embarrassed, then he calls her by that horrible name, making it even worse. Having been in the same predicament with a coat and scarf, I laughed in empathy with Fiona, but I also ached for her mortification at Ben's comments. I wanted to shake Ben for being unconsciously cruel. He gets quite the wake-up call a few days later when he runs into her at the local antique store and is rendered nearly speechless by the sight of Fiona in a clingy sweater. Suddenly "Fireplug Fi" has become a beautiful and sexy woman and his reaction flummoxes him.

I enjoyed seeing the development of the relationship between Ben and Fiona. It gets off to a rocky start when he overhears her complaining about the nickname to her other sister, Kerry. He's horrified to realize how much he hurt her and rightly ashamed of himself. While Fiona wants to pretend that none of it happened and ignore Ben, he wants to find a way to make amends. Fiona's brother Logan gets involved by forcing Ben to set up his Cove tree lot next door to Fiona's new shop. Thrown into frequent proximity, there is no denying the sparks that flare between them.

I loved their interactions. Because they've known each other for so long, they have plenty of ammunition for teasing each other. Fiona is quick-witted and gets in some good zingers on Ben, while he has an amusing way of flirting with her. They have more in common than expected, including facing significant life changes. The more time they spend together, the closer they grow, but neither is sure where it will go. Ben's business is in Rhode Island, and Fiona is just settling into Blueberry Cove and has no intention of returning to a city.

I loved seeing how deeply involved they became in each other's lives. I loved Ben's invitation to Fiona to come to his business's holiday party in Portland. Their trip on the train was intense, and I loved seeing how well Fiona fit in with his coworkers. There was also a terrific scene that involved Ben's ex-girlfriend, who clearly didn't want to let him go. Fiona dealt with her brilliantly. Ben has always been part of Fiona's family, and his involvement becomes even more important when a family member has a medical crisis. His caring and support are critical, not just for Fiona but for the whole family. But as Christmas draws closer, Fiona and Ben wonder what the future holds in store for them. The ending was fantastic as Ben finds the perfect way to manage both of his businesses and get the girl.

Once again, family relationships are a huge part of this series. Fiona's siblings play essential roles in the romance between our main characters, as they have no problem butting into each other's business. Their love and loyalty to each other are never in doubt, but it doesn't stop them from relentless teasing and interference when deemed necessary. Wedding planning is a source of stress and hilarity, while Uncle Gus's illness reminds them of life's fragility. I loved Ben's closeness with his parents and his desire to do what is right for everyone. His conversations with his mom are great - especially the one at the end of the book. I liked seeing more of Fiona's sister, Kerry. Something is up with her, and I can't wait to read her book.

Donna Kauffman (2015) SNOWFLAKE BAY (AUDIOBOOK)
Audible - Audible, Inc.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5 stars

Audible writes, "There's no place like seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, at Christmas - and there's nothing like a wedding, the warmth of the holidays, and an old crush to create the perfect new start.... Interior designer Fiona McCrae has left fast-paced Manhattan to move back home to peaceful Blueberry Cove. But she's barely arrived before she's hooked in to planning her big sister Hannah's Christmas wedding - in less than seven weeks. The last thing she needs is for her first love, Ben Campbell, to return to neighboring Snowflake Bay.... When they were kids, Fiona was the bratty little sister Ben mercilessly teased - while pining after Hannah. But Fi never once thought of Ben like a brother. And that hasn't changed. Except Fi is all grown up. Will Ben notice her now? More importantly, with her life in a jumble, should he? Or might the romance of the occasion, the spirit of the season, and the gifts of time ignite a long-held flame for many Christmases to come? Something old might just become something new...."

Good listen! 1. The Cove sounds like a lovely place to be, particularly at Christmastime, 2. Ben is so very dreamy, and 3. A lovely character group.
