This Changes Everything is the sequel to The Unraveling of Julia, which I have to admit I had mixed feelings about. However, seeing that attorney Bennie Rosato from my favorite of Scottoline's series would be in the book made the decision for me that I had to read it. For a fan of that prior series, there was of course too little Bennie for me, but the scenes she was in were fantastic and Scottoline did a great job of seamlessly working the character into the story.

Julia Pritzker is enjoying her new life in Italy, but returns to Philadelphia to help her best friend, Courtney Horan. Courtney's grandmother has been killed. Julia finds Courtney needs her help more than she imagined. This requires Julia to accept and take advantage of her psychic abilities to get the information she needs to help her friend. Staying in Philly causes a strain on Julia's recent marriage since her husband is left to deal with a crisis in Italy without her.

I liked the book, but it would have been better if there had been a more focused narrative. There were just too many side-plots and the drama with Julia's three-year-old daughter was distracting. It would have been fine with me if that whole storyline was replaced with more scenes with Mona and Susuan, the best friends of the victim. They were smart, older characters that I would have liked to get to know better. The book had some pacing issues, but I enjoyed how things were resolved and found the ending to be interesting.

This was my first book by Lisa Scottoline and I really loved it. It's the sequel to THE UNRAVELING OF JULIA, which I did not read, and I think it can definitely be read as a standalone. Julia Pritzker is a clairvoyant and living with her husband in Tuscany. She misses her friend Courtney who lives in the states. One day, she has an awful premonition as Courtney is walking into her grandmother's house. Courtney then finds her grandmother murdered in the house, and the murderer is escaping out the back door. Julia heads back the next day to help her friend solve this mysterious crime. This was very fast paced, and atmospheric. It pulled me in and held my attention until the very end. I loved the female friendship, supernatural elements and small town vibes. I enjoyed seeing all the pieces coming together as the story progresses. I definitely recommend this one to thriller lovers. A really fun, quick read!

It’s like Scottoline says to herself, “can’t stop won’t stop, let’s deliver.”
This is deeper, more complex than what it appears to be. The plot steadily builds layer upon layer into a crazy suspenseful novel. I read faster and faster letting the story set the pace. The plot was superior. The intricate way Scottoline melds the storyline with the characters is sheer talent. We’ve got the crime-thriller aspect which is first and foremost, because after all there will be crimes and underground societies. Action and suspense are driving the narrative and there’s never a dull moment. Especially, when a complex turn of events rears its ugly head. Honing into her psychic abilities and standing up for what’s right, Julia is gathering up her own posse to find out just what the heck is happening around this town. Why would someone want Grandma Kay dead? Tracing the steps backward, it all unfolds. Starting at the community center, Julia and Courtney utilize the long standing friendships of women in the area for any clues or information. I liked how this was shown as a likable group willing to help. The strong female friendships portrayed was fantastic.

My recommendation goes out to all those who prefer a solid, fast paced, twisty crime thriller book.

This book can be read as a standalone or as a separate follow on from The Unraveling of Julia.

First of all, I did not realize that this was the second book in the series. Thankfully, I had already read the first book and as the first chapter began to unfold, I was thinking, "Wait, I know these characters!"

I went back to read my review and then remembered that the first book was a rare miss for me - specifically from an author that I have really enjoyed over the years. I went back and forth for a few minutes to decide if I wanted to continue and I eventually went ahead and finished the book. This book was hands down better than the first book. The issues that I had with the first book seemed to be non-existent and I ended up enjoying it.

With that being said, I still had a couple of things that bothered me. Without going into spoilers, the behaviors by the police department were WAY over the top and almost to the point of being unbelievable. I know it was a small town, but....seriously?

I liked Julia a whole lot better than in Book 1, but she still had times when I wanted to shake her. Her level of denial in having any kind of psychic gift became frustrating and her behavior towards her husband really gave me pause. The plot itself was overly complicated and it was truly one that you just have to decide to just go with it.

But, there were positives too. I enjoyed the friendship between Julia and Courtney and the relationship between Courtney and her grandmother. I also think that Paul had the greatest amount of growth than any other character. While some of Julia's behavior had me thinking, "No! Don't do it!" as we got closer to the climax of the story, there was still quite a bit of tension, drama, and angst.

I loved having Bennie Rosato in as a crossover and it was fun seeing her in a different setting. It also made me realize how much I enjoy her as a character and how I used to love any book with her in it.

So, I'm glad I continued on with this series and am happy to see that even though every author can have a one off, it does not mean that they can not come right back with a winner.

3.5 stars. I always love reading and listening to this author’s work, and I’ve literally read every single one of her books. However, I was disappointed that Bennie Rosato’s appearance in this novel didn't include her classic, good old-fashioned courtroom scenes.

I also found Julia annoyingly stubborn; she refused to return home to Tuscany even after Gianluca begged her to, despite being away from her husband and daughter for so long. It made no sense to stay when her own husband was facing legal troubles similar to Courtney's. On top of that, her hypocrisy was frustrating—she lectured Paul for missing his flight and failing to support Courtney when she needed him most, yet she refused to practice what she preached for her own family!

This book started off with a lot of promise and an upbeat vibe that drew me in right away. I really enjoyed the unfolding story of Julia, and it was great to see her again!

In this sequel, Julia embraces her role as a clairvoyant, but her journey destabilizes her mental health and marriage as she and her friend Courtney probe a murder in a haunting Pennsylvania mining town...

As we reconnect with Julia, we discover her hidden talent, which may have been passed on to her daughter. She is happily married to Gianluca after some dramatic events from her past come to light, and she has moved to Italy. Meanwhile, her best friend, Courtney, lives in the US, and they only keep in touch occasionally. However, Julia has a gut feeling one day and decides to call Courtney, sensing something is off, which ultimately saves Courtney’s life. Pretty intense, right? And that’s just the beginning!

What really worked for me was the intriguing premise and character development, especially in the first half of the book. The pacing was fast and intense, which held my attention. Unfortunately, the tempo slowed down significantly later on, diving into unnecessary details that dragged the story and made me lose interest. Toward the end, Julia’s level of investment became hard to believe; it felt unrealistic that anyone would be so selfless to the point of being reckless, risking their own safety instead of involving the police. I didn't appreciate that aspect, and as I reached the end, I found myself checking how many pages were left. I felt like some sections could have been cut entirely without losing impact. The overly detailed chapters just stretched on and lost my engagement. However, I truly loved the first half of the book! If that momentum had carried through, it would have received a solid rating from me.

While this book didn’t fully resonate with me, I believe it will appeal to others, and I encourage you to give it a read. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys amateur sleuthing, an atmospheric setting, gripping plots, and emotionally driven characters. The story explores themes of childhood trauma, justice, forgotten friendships, and even touches on the supernatural with psychic abilities and strong female bonds. As I mentioned, the ending felt a bit over the top and difficult to accept; it’s hard to imagine one person taking such massive risks. Sure, the police were a bit stubborn, and their urgency was lacking, but there were definitely other ways she could have sought help. It didn’t quite work for me, but I hope the next book has a bit less emotional weight and incorporates smarter actions with less unnecessary explanation.

Thank you Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for this eARC. HUGE fan of Lisa Scottoline so I was super excited when Netgalley approved my request. Love her stand alone novels and her Rosato novels! Absolutely loved it when Bennie Rosato made her appearance in this book.

This is the second book by Lisa featuring Julia Pritzker as the main character. If you haven’t read Unraveling of Julia, I recommend starting with that book first. Julia has become one of my favorite fictional characters … hoping to see her in more books. ☺️

This book was a great page-turner. Highly recommend it when it releases July 14th. ❤️

I really wanted to enjoy this one more than I did. The combination of a murder mystery, long-distance best friends, and a touch of psychic intuition sounded like it would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, this one never fully clicked for me. The story itself is different, and I appreciated that it wasn't the same formula I've been reading lately. But for some reason, it read much younger than I expected. Even though this isn't marketed as YA, the dialogue and overall writing style gave me those vibes, which kept pulling me out of the story. The pacing also felt slower than I wanted. I kept waiting for the suspense to really kick in, but instead I found myself reading more because I wanted answers than because I couldn't put the book down.
There were enough twists and small mysteries to keep me turning the pages, and I did want to see how everything fit together. It just never reached the level of tension or emotional payoff I was hoping for. Overall, this was a solid three-star read for me. It wasn't a bad book, it simply wasn't one that left much of a lasting impression.

This is a sequel to THE UNRAVELING OF JULIA but can definitely be read on its own. I really enjoyed both.

Julia Pritzker has settled comfortably into her life in Tuscany with her husband, Gianluca. They now have a daughter, and life has been pleasant. However, she does miss her best friend, Courtney, who is back in the states. It has been some time since the two have spoken, so Julia decides to FaceTime Courtney. As Courtney is about to enter her grandmother's house, Julia experiences a disturbing premonition. Courtney finds her grandmother dead on the floor, bleeding from a gunshot wound and the person responsible is running out the back door. Julia is on the next flight to Philadelphia to be there for her best friend. The local police seem to think it was a burglary but the women believe there is something more sinister going on and the local police are involved. They take the investigation into their own hands and Courtney urges Julia to use her psychic abilities to figure out what really happened. But when things take a deadly turn Julia doesn't know if she'll make it out alive.

This book really had everything I love in a thriller! It had small-town secrets, conspiracies, past traumas, some paranormal elements, and even a little bit of history. The female friendship also played a large role. It was dark, atmospheric, unsettling, and had a compelling mystery. The pacing was spot-on, which definitely made the book unputdownable. There were surprising twists and some super tense moments. I loved that Julia went back to PA to be with Courtney in her time of need. It showed the strength of their bond. There's that saying that family is not always blood. I loved the setting of PA's old mining region, it definitely created a haunting vibe. Centralia, PA is mentioned in the book, and I've actually been there. I've seen the smoke rising out of the street from the underground coal fire. The Revolutionary War reenactments mentioned in the book also added a level of intrigue. This was definitely a captivating read I really enjoyed. I would highly recommend adding this one to your TBR!🩷

And one of the most fun surprises for longtime Scottoline readers? She brings back Benny Rosato from the Rosato & DiNunzio series as a very important side character! I absolutely loved seeing that connection.

Another winner from the amazing Lisa Scottoline! Long time fans will love seeing Benny Rosato back in the mix, but just the right amount. This is definitely a stand alone suspense novel but for long time readers, Benny’s appearance is a bonus. Lisa touches on so many subjects seamlessly including America’s 250th birthday, racial issues, small town politics, sixth sense, murder, crime, the prison system, family, friends, and more!

Lisa Scottoline is my absolute favorite author so, I really hated to only give three stars to this novel. Too much of the ubiquitous eff word, I don't think that I liked a single character. If it had not been a Lisa Scottoline book, i may well have DNF.

The conversations seemed trite and forced. At times, I feel as if scenes were truncated. The first time, i thought it may have been the recording that was flawed. However, it happened a few more times.

It did pick up for a bit during the reenactment scene closer to the end of the novel.

While i understand Julia's need to help her friend, I have issues with any mother who puts anyone before her children - especially when they are young.

I will read the next one in the series out of loyalty - not to mention that i have read every single one of Lisa's books thus far. I know how much she appreciates her fans and that means a lot.

I love Lisa Scottoline and have read many of her books but I did not like this one at all. The story was preposterous and the psychic element turned me off because it just did not fit with the plot. There were too many coincidences and it was just not believable. The characters were unlikable and the whole book was just boring. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc of this book.

Julia is back and this time she leaves her darling husband and daughter in Italy while she returns to the states to console her friend Courtney and also to solve a murder. Julia’s sixth sense blossoms into a full flower in this novel as she is more and more aware of things happening around her that she really shouldn’t know. I enjoyed the quirkiness of the characters as well as the complicated plot with threads that were well woven together to make one riveting story. Investigating the murder of Courtney’s beloved grandmother ends up revealing truths and some secrets that have been buried for a long time, but Julia is there, so she unearths everything in a timely manner that held my attention and kept me amused too. The dynamics between the characters was so realistically portrayed that it felt as though I were watching a movie. The plot was just the right pace to hold my attention and the twists were numerous enough to keep me guessing. This is a perfect suspense book with some strange mojo going on with Julia and a lot of fun for me as I read it.

This book starts wild and doesn’t let up. It follows Julia, who leaves her idyllic life in Tuscany when she has a premonition that her best friend’s grandmother is murdered — and it comes true. What starts as a visit for support and comfort quickly spirals into something much bigger — secrets, conspiracies, premonitions, and a truth that won’t stay buried.

If you like Scottoline’s other books, this has a similar pace and structure, but with a little more emotional twist. There is a lot of female friendship, intuition and learning to believe in yourself, which comes on top of the suspense and drama you come to expect. My biggest challenge though was the supernatural/premonition angle. As someone who likes stories that feel like they could be real, this was really hard to relate to. While the murder was realistic, the rest of the story was not, and that made it hard for me to get attached and feel a part of it. Even though it’s eerie and haunting, it feels a little over the top, and it only escalates as the story continues.

While I love the themes of small town secrets, powerful forces and things not being what they seem, I just couldn’t get hooked by this one. If you like a touch of paranormal conspiracies though, this book could be for you.

I’ve read a handful of Lisa Scottoline’s book and I’m happy to report that she does it again! Courtney stumbles upon the murder of her Grandma Kay and Julia, her best friend is a witness… Except Julia was on FaceTime and in Italy… So Julia flies to America to help and support Courtney through this tragedy. After all, she had a premonition of a bad feeling right before Kay was found and now Courtney wants her to use her “powers” as a medium to help figure out why Kay was targeted. As Julia and Courtney work together to uncover the truth, they both find themselves in the middle of marital problems and conspiracy theories. When it comes down to it, only Julia can find a way to save herself and Courtney before it’s too late.

For starters, I didn’t read The Unraveling of Julia! I thought this was a standalone book and still enjoyed it. I’m not one for paranormal or supernatural elements in my books but this one to me was done well and wasn’t too “woo woo” in your face. The friendship dynamic here is so strong you can’t help but think you’d also do anything for your best friend too.

While I enjoyed the friendship storyline, I scratched my head at the Courtney/Alex dynamic and the problems that Julia faced with her husband. I guess I just struggled to find the relevance towards the story, but maybe I needed to read the first book to better understand!

Overall, I enjoyed this book despite the paranormal aspect! I’m a big Lisa Scottline fan and would recommend if you’re into mediums, deep family dynamics and cop conspiracies!

She has also really never written a sequal before, and I totally loved that! I also loved the bringing back of Bennie and mention of Mary! I love all of her books, but the dinunzio ones have to be my favorite! I would not mind more with the lawfirm! Not as thrilling as some, but I had to keep reading to finish and find out what was happening. I also woild not mind more with Julia and her gift! I look forward to hopefully getting the chance to read more Scottoline books, because I will always recommend her to people!

Julia moved to Tuscany a couple years ago leaving her best friend, Courtney, back in Pennsylvania. Julia has a premonition while on the phone with Courtney as she is waking into her grandmothers house. Courtney is debated to find her grandmother murdered. Julia is on the next plane to be with her friend. They women decide to find out who did this to Courtney’s grandmother. What they run into is something way worse and Julia finds herself in danger.

4⭐️ Even though I’m sure this can be read as a stand alone, it’s a continuation of Julia’s story. I have to say I liked this book way better then the first book. Julia and Courtney’s friendship is wonderful. I loved the mystery, the relevance of America’s 250th bday, the area the book takes place in as I’ve driven through this small town that is burning. Also loved that Lisa added in her Phila lawyer from her earlier books!! This felt reminiscent of her earlier books which are my favorites of hers! I hope she continues to tell this story in future books.

This Changes Everything 2⭐️

I initially didn’t realize this was a sequel to The Unraveling of Julia, which I listened to last year and throughly enjoyed. To be honest, a sequel felt unnecessary, especially when the sequel took place away from Italy! Despite the first book, Julia is unsure if she has any psychic/medium abilities. This whole book was over-the-top situations with subpar dialogues and character development. All the characters spoke exactly the same. If there were no “____ said” I would not be able to differentiate who said what. Despite the chaos, things seemed to quickly wrap up perfectly over and over again. (Ex: character being a bad husband, acts the part, and then right away owns up to his poor choices and takes full responsibility and apologizes- it just didn’t feel realistic to move through phases that quickly).

For most of the book I was distracted. I didn’t care about the main plot, I just felt bad for Julia’s husband and daughter. I wanted Julia to get back to them ASAP. Like her husband pointed out, she made him give up his motorcycle when they had a child due to risk involved, but here she is chasing the bad guys, going into prison riots, and getting into other dangerous situations. But, whatevs, it’s for her bestie, so let’s just forget about her own struggling daughter back home… (obvious I had FEELINGS while reading). Julia seemed immune to consequences. I’m bummed. It seems so strange to have such polarized opinions about 2 books in the same series.

While this is a FOUR STAR pulse pounding story about murder, it’s also a look at how important friendship, family, forgiveness, healing, and the truth are when faced with tragedy.

This was just released July 14th and I recommend checking this out when you have an afternoon or evening to consume it. I started this shortly before I wanted to fall asleep, looked at the clock to see two hours had passed, then settled back in with it as soon as I woke up the next morning.

Julia’s story begins in the book ‘The Unraveling of Julia’ although you can read this as a stand alone.
