Years later, fate brings them back together under unexpected circumstances—mixing work, tension, and a forced proximity that reopens everything left unresolved. The author skillfully explores themes such as family pressure, loss, loyalty, and the weight of unspoken truths, all while building an intense relationship that moves between vulnerability and desire.
Set against the backdrop of vibrant, multicultural Miami, the book balances contemporary romance, workplace dynamics, touches of danger, and emotional chemistry. The writing feels fluid, authentic, and deeply Latin, without leaning into excess or unnecessary dramatics.

Pretty Promises was such an amazing read!! I finished wanting to read more about Bruno and Alvaro and their friends. But mostly Bruno and Alvaro. Their chemistry was 1000/10. Bruno is so funny. There were so many moments that had me dying that I kept rereading those parts. Alvaro is the perfect calm for Bruno’s high energy and sass.
I don’t actually read a lot of Second Chance romance. Not because I don’t like the trope, but it’s not a trope I pay much attention to. However, the way K.L Hernández showed scenes of them dating for the first time throughout the story was very beautiful. It had me rooting for them the whole time.
I also adored how Miami this story is. From the language, to the outfits, to very specific locations, I feel like Pretty Promises presented Miami and its culture in a way that locals understand it.
Overall, I’m so glad I read it and I can’t wait for more!

Can you believe in second chances? I think you will after this darling read.
Second chance romance is a niche I solemnly dip my toe into, but this story fed the yearning in me. Álvaro and Bruno’s love was an authentic exploration of forming relationships with a basis of love and maturing along the way.
My Bruno was a brat with layers of integrity, talent, and passion that’ll lock you in for a lifetime—Álvaro is prime example of that. He was grappling with a lifetime of complexes, but he had a shine that solidifies his own place in his life. Álvaro was a soft, sultry down-bad for Bruno and an incredibly intriguing character. His character brought out so many intimate nuances of devotion and dedication that I just loved.
I loved every aspect of family, love, and responsibility that was woven into the themes of this book. Loved this wrestling lover, down bad duo. The elements of Latino culture and Miami community is also an amazing thing in the book.
Overall, definitely recommend!

This is a unique second chance latine characters story. The two main protagonists needed to be apart to grow independent from each other to appreciate what they had. The side story of mafia and secrecy while not my vibe it's well written.
The dialogue takes you inside the tale. If you are looking for a diverse MM sports and mafia read with fleshed out characters, this is your book.
