The Bratva boss kidnapped me for hacking into his system. I made a deal with the devil to save my daughter’s life— never knowing he was the father I’d been hiding from.
Nikolai Volkov. The devil in a tailored suit. The man who took me in the dark. A man who consumed me in one masked, anonymous night. Now, he’s my only way out.
A year. Two million for my daughter’s surgery. I’ve become his prisoner, bound by a contract I never meant to sign. But Nikolai isn’t just a businessman. He’s a goddamn predator. And I’m his prey.
Every moment in his presence, the air crackles with tension—dangerous, primal, irresistible. I can’t walk away, no matter how much he pulls me under.
He doesn’t know who I am. He doesn’t know I’m the woman he once took in the dark. He doesn’t know he’s the father of the child I’ve been hiding. When the truth comes out… I won’t be able to outrun him.
A.J. Black writes stories for readers who crave dangerous thrills, dark love, and secrets too big to hide.
Her books are filled with fierce, dominant men who will stop at nothing to claim what's theirs—and heroines who fall for them, even when they know it’s dangerous.
Expect mafia bosses, contract marriages, and love that isn’t just about hearts—it’s about power, possession, and burning passion.
In A.J. Black’s world, survival and seduction collide in explosive, fiery moments.
Highly disappointed. While the book starts with a promising premise — a masquerade, a one-night stand, and a mafia boss — the story quickly falls apart.
The plot is full of inconsistencies and continuity errors that make it difficult to stay immersed. Scenes jump without logic, character motivations change abruptly, and important details are either forgotten or contradicted later on. The writing often feels like it was generated by AI and never properly edited to ensure the story actually makes sense.
What’s most frustrating is the wasted potential. The masquerade and one-night-stand elements could have created real tension and intrigue, but instead they’re rushed and underdeveloped.
Ultimately, this was a disappointing read with a good idea at its core but very poor execution.
The story starts promising . But then it falls apart with a lot of mistakes and contradiction . It is very difficult to stay interested which such a poor execution . It does feel very much as an AI generated novel.
Plot was ok but the inconsistencies made it hard to read and really took away from the story. Spent too much time trying to piece things together to make it make sense.
DNF. Got to about 80%and I could not tolerate the melodrama anymore. The lack of basic freaking communication between two adults. And the FMC is supposedly brilliant, but she's so stupid.

Sofia and Nikolai share a night of passion during a masked gala. Years later they are reunited when she hacks into his system and a deal made to work with him. This story was intriguing as twists and turns kept my interest. I could not put it down.

I seriously think that A.J. is one heck of a 5/5-star author that writes some extremely well written 5-star romance books. This is one of those mafia romance books that keeps you hooked from start to finish because the storyline is magnetic. Everyone should be devouring this author's romance books because they are PERFECT reads.
This love story had me on the edge of my seat. You couldn’t put this book down. I love these mafia love stories they’re totally different from what I normally read, but it was excellent. A must read I laughed, I cried it truly is a very good story!!
Another delightful mafia novel that captivates from the start. The author consistently surprises us with her mafia novels, and the storyline and characters are delightful.

Imagine having multiple opportunities to tell the truth but being too scared to for some dumb reason despite knowing that someone else is planning on doing it. You cannot tell me she graduated top of her class at MIT. I wouldn't be surprised if she died just because so stupid.
I’ve been reading this series one after another, and it has become one of my absolute favorites. AJ Black will be on the top of my list of authors to read.
