Brazen

Rate this book
Aodhan De Thuaidh has been sent by his father to collect the human woman in his visions.

The only problem is, Dublin is a lot larger than he thought. It isn't long before he realizes that not only does he not know who this woman in his visions is, but he also doesn't know when she is--and Dublin isn't really Aodhan's vibe.

But when Sierra Lopez does appear, it's as if Aodhan has been hit by a train, his entire world tilting on its axis in a breath. Now, everything he knew is uncertain, and he can't imagine a life without the spitfire woman who both angers him and keeps him on his toes.

Unfortunately, Conlan, Aodhan's father, is not a patient man, and as time goes on it becomes apparent that Aodhan will need to choose between his duty, and his heart, and the wrong choice could cost him everything...

Brazen is Aodhan's POV of Demure, Book 1 in the Modern Legends of Sidhe series. Perfect for super fans of Sidhe, or those who wonder what Aodhan did in Dublin for 8 months before meeting Sierra, this urban romantasy is an alternate entry into the series. The Modern Legends of Sidhe is an adult urban romantasy series written for fans of Twilight who are tired of reading about teenagers and are in love with the Fae.

Aodhan De Thuaidh is the eldest son to one of the Fae/Sidhe Kings, and he's been sent by his father to find a particular woman and bring her back to the Fae Realm and save the Fae World from losing all it's magic.

This book is a retelling of the first book, Demure, and it's told from Aodhan's POV. Which I quite enjoyed, because while I love a feisty female like Sierra, I always love to read the He-Fell-First POV. I find it so interesting. Plus, this being, essentially, a dark academia story with a side of Fae World, I very much enjoyed this read.

Minor Spoilers Ahead:

Aodhan knows very little of the human realm, but he'll do just about anything to save the magic in the Fae World and prove himself to his very disapproving father. Upon arriving in Dublin, he stays with his estranged cousin Braan and his human wife Kaye. Who start to show him that there's more to life than just doing whatever your father tells you to do.

Upon finding Sierra, he finds it difficult to just throw her over his shoulder and take her to the Fae Realm. He is intrigued by her feistiness and lack of interest in finding his approval or interest. So, of course, he semi-stalks her. By working at the same library as her at Trinity College, and following her to all of her classes.

I highly recommend this series for lovers of Dark Academia or Twilight or Discovery of Witches!

Thank you to Hope E. Davis. I received an advance copy of Brazen at no charge. This is my honest, voluntary review.

I first read Demure and entered the magical world of Sidhe about two years ago now, and loved every minute of it. Brazen is an interesting and insightful alternate entrance into the world of Sidhe, told from the POV of Aodhan, who is Sierra’s love interest in Demure.

I really enjoyed reading Brazen. I loved getting to see all of Aodhan’s initial thoughts and impressions of the human world, and how his early interactions with Sierra went from his perspective. Whereas we get the frustration from Sierra at Aodhan being, well, Aodhan, we see the logic and thought processes he was following from the beginning. We also finally get to see firsthand how much he warred with himself internally about his duty to his people vs. his budding attraction to Sierra.

I definitely recommend this book to readers who either have or haven’t read Demure, and are interested in diving into the world of the Fae in Sidhe!

ARC Reader
First and foremost, I have never read any of the other stories by Hope, but I do intend to remedy that with time.
I will always love books that start with a detailed author's note informing the reader of things such as content, triggers, and details concerning the book. In this note, the chapters with intimate chapters are outlined to provide a 'less explicit reading experience', stating that skipping them will not affect the comprehension of the plot. Not everyone enjoys reading these scenes, and I think this is a rather smart idea to include.
Demure is told from Sierra's POV, while Brazen is told from Aodhan's POV. As stated previously, I have not read any other books by Hope. Demure is not required reading to fully understand the concept of this book; Brazen is just an alternative entry in the Modern Legends of Sidhe series.
I do love the concept for the books. From the world-building to the character development.
Though my true rating is probably 4.5/5 instead of being 4 or 5 stars proper.
Despite the author's note involving language. I did not really like the hybrid of Spanglish. The involvement of Gaelic was better executed than the involvement of Spanish.
Some scenes felt a bit repetitive or even like they weren't really necessary for the plot. Though it didn't truly downgrade the book too much in terms of the overall experience. I truly did love the concept and do plan on further being involved in this world to see what comes next.
Sierra is a strong female character who can be seen as stubborn. Though it feels like she could have so much more development. This might be seen more in Demure, however. Aodhan's behaviour, his stalking, is a bit repetitive and a bit concerning. I had a love/ hate relationship when it came to Aodhan. He was a good character, but at times he made questionable choices.

Urban NA romantasy with tropes like library romance, he falls first and found family. This book is the MMC’s POV from Demure, Book 1 in the Modern Legends of Sidhe series.

I haven’t read the Modern Legends of Sidhe series yet, but after reading this book, I’m interested in reading it and seeing the story from the FMC’s POV. Not having read any of the author’s other books didn’t affect my reading experience and I think this book worked as a nice introduction to the series.

The MMC, Aodhan was the broody and grumpy fae who was tasked with kidnapping the FMC from the human world. I liked the mix of fae and human world and how Aodhan kept learning more about the human world (food, how to use a cell phone) etc throughout the book, and also how learning more changed his outlook on the world.

There was a lot of things happening, especially towards the end of the book. The pacing was fast, but didn’t feel rushed.

I recommend checking this book out, either as an introduction to the series or maybe after reading the first book, Demure.

“Only an idiot Fae would fall in love with a short life-spanned human.”
“Are you going to spend all four hundred-plus years of your life just being angry at everyone who isn’t this girl you are supposed to collect?”
“You know, you can’t go around scaring all my friends, okay?”
“I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide your emotions from me, okay?”
“You’re cute when you’re trying to be serious.”

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

Sent to save the magic of his world, will he allow himself to fall in love? Find out in Brazen.

Sent from a world where magic is dying, Aodhan is on a mission. On his father’s order, he must find the woman he saw in a vision and bring her back to his home. But he didn’t count on just how many humans live in Dublin.

Once he locates Sierra at the university, Aodhan is drawn to her - even though she seems to be completely uninterested in him. Now he must choose - obey his father’s orders, or get to know the woman who has captured his attention.

This book is a companion to Demure, the first book in a series. It shows Aodhan’s version of events, whereas Demure is from Sierra’s POV. It ends on a cliffhanger and leads directly into the next book (already published!) of the series.

It was a fun read. Aodhan is very much a fish out of water in Dublin, and a lot of the humour in the story comes from watching an immortal Fae navigate the human world. He grows a lot in the story, learning to be open to new experiences and ideas.

The romance is slow burn, with open door (but not overly explicit) spice. The story deals with loneliness, kidnapping, and controlling parents. Sierra does have a skin condition that makes her feel extremely self conscious.

While this book can be read as a standalone (as I did), I highly suspect the story will be richer reading it after Demure. It was a quick, enjoyable read that whets the appetite for the rest of the series.

This was a fun alternative start to the Modern Legends of Sidhe series!

Oh Aodhan... honestly his attitude at the beginning of the story makes sense. He's like a prince, set as the heir to his father's division of Sidhe. And the fact that he went into the human realm without any real plan other than 'grab this girl and take her back to my father' haaaa! Honestly serves him right for not asking when in time this girl was living and when she would be close enough to snatch.

I also love that she was speaking Spanish when he first saw her, and he basically went shocked Pikachu and didn't do anything.

Watching them fall in love from his perspective was so lovely, especially with how much care he showed Sierra given her insecurities. We already knew that he was a complete gentleman with her from Demure, but having his thoughts was very nice. Including all the second-guessing he did, especially after he messed up their first date.

I do think my favorite part was when we find out that Aodhan really didn't know how to do his job at the library and was just putting books away at random! Ohhhh that poor librarian if she ever found out.

If you love a romantasy, he falls first, library romance, kidnapping her is his duty, hidden fantasy world, and found family, then definitely check out Brazen and the rest of the Modern Legends of Sidhe series!

Thank you to the author for this ARC of Brazen in exchange for my honest review!

Brazen was so compelling and emotional and completely pulled me in. I realized after receiving this ARC that it was a different POV from Demure, and that will 100% be my next read. I loved this perspective from Aodhan, especially watching his internal conflict between duty and desire unravel over time. I loved seeing the shift from obligation to choice.

Sierra was a standout for me. Strong, self-assured, and never easily swayed (my kinda woman fr), which made their dynamic feel balances and authentic. Their relationship didn’t feel rushed or forced. It was all built through tension, honesty, and moments of vulnerability that made the emotional payoff really land.

I also appreciated how the story slowly revealed that things weren’t as straightforward as they initially seemed. The underlying tension with the fae world and Aodhan’s father added another layer that kept me invested beyond just the romance (bc you know I’m a sucker for love lol).
Overall, this was a strong, character-driven story with just the right balance of tension, emotion, and intrigue, and I’m very excited to see where the story goes next!

✨Arc Review ✨
First of all, thank you to Hope E. Davis for this opportunity to read this book as an arc reviewer!
Second of all, wow 😍

This is Aodhan's pov of book 1, Demure, I haven't read book 1 but I'm definitely about to and I am glad that I could read this book first. I am excited to finish The Modern Legends of Sidhe series!

At first I struggled to read this book, but then I realised that was entirely my fault as I was in a little bit of a slump... After putting it on pause then restarting a couple of weeks later, I really don't understand how I didn't enjoy this the first time... This story was amazing, so well written and had such a steady flow throughout. I have definitely realised that I need to add 'Demure' and 'Bold' to my tbr, oh, and leaving it on a cliffhanger was so unfair (in a good way)

Aodhan is a very interesting character and it was so refreshing to read a book that is solely from the MMC's point of view. It was completing, emotional, intense and all things captivating. The world building was incredible from the very start, the yearning was on top, the tensions and the world of Sidhe were immaculately described and the library romance!? Yes please ma'am.

Everything about this book was just wonderful.

I've been a huge fan of this series since I read Demure, and each book afterwards just keeps getting better.
In Brazen, we are getting a new and interesting pov straight from Aodhan about his arrival into the human world, and his first impressions of Sierra.

It was so much fun taking a trip back to Demure and getting to know Aodhan in a different light and his perspectives on things. I loved how hilariously awkward he is and we really didn't see this part of him in Demure.

I snickered, as he tried different things like Tinder, human food and his internal monologue was just fantastic.

The banana story 🤣😂

All he was supposed to do was kidnap Sierra and take her back to his world but now all he wants is to save her. I thoroughly enjoyed their love story from both perspectives, and it is• definitely one of my favorite series.

✨️ I received an advanced copy of this ebook from the author ✨️

As a romance reader who unabashedly loves getting both of the MC points-of-view about how they fall in love, I was deliriously excited to see that we were getting Aodhan's pov from the time of Demure, the first book in the Modern Legends of Sidhe series. (I've adored the three volumes to-date, Demure, Bold and Resilient.)

Aodhan is for the girls who love a broody, grumpy, doom cloud of an MMC. He's definitely out of his element in the human world, navigating things like cell phones, Tinder, and the blandness of human food. But he does recognize the incredible culinary achievement that is the taco, so he's not completely hopeless.

I laughed so hard I snorted my drink at the banana story.

While there isn't a lot of new plot here if you've read Demure, it was a fun chance to revisit this world and it's characters.

I think I'll plan to do a tandem read between Brazen and Demure when I reread the series, because I love dual pov so much.

Having read all of the Modern Legends of Sidhe series, I was excited to return to this world—and to see Aodhan's POV!

Brazen runs parallel to book one, Demure, but from Aodhan’s perspective. We get to know him as he enters the human world in search of a woman he believes can help save the magic of the fae realm. Alongside his perspective on his relationship with Sierra, we also see what he was doing before they met, which adds meaningful depth to his character.

One of the highlights was watching Aodhan navigate everyday human experiences—using a cell phone, washing (or not washing) dishes, planning dates—and a certain banana-related scene that genuinely made me laugh. (Trust me, you want to read it.)

Brazen ends just before the point where Bold (book two) picks up from Aodhan’s perspective, so it was especially satisfying to see his journey leading into that moment.

If you’re new to the Modern Legends of Sidhe, you could start here—but be warned: the ending will definitely make you want to keep reading the series!

This was a novella set from and alternate point of view from what was originally released in the series. Demure is the original POV, which I will say I have not read, but I will probably do so before the next book in this series comes out.

It has been a while since I have read a book in a day, so this definitely intrigued me. Aodhan is broody and definitely grumpy at the start of this book. As he starts to learn more and navigates the new world he finds himself in (Earth), his perspective changes as do his actions and outlook. He goes from wanting to kidnap Sierra to further his standing with his father to wanting to save her at all costs.

The spice was a nice addition to the story and not overdone.

Once again, Hope E. Davis leaves her readers with a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to learn more of what is to come!

Thank you to the author, Hope E. Davis, and for the opportunity to read this ARC provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op. This is a prequel of sorts, a simultaneous book taking place and written from Aodhan's perspective as Demure, which is book one in the Modern Legends of Sidhe series.

Listen, I can suspend my disbelief for a lot in fantasy books. but I'm having a hard time believing that Sierra wouldn’t have called the Trinity College campus police and filed a restraining order on this man after their third interaction for stalking her (he needs her to help him save the world but doesn't know how to segue into that in casual conversation).

Overall, I enjoyed it, especially the setting in Dublin, Ireland, and the Gaelic references and history. Half their interactions take place in the library, which is also great. Overall it's just fine and I'm intrigued to continue the series.

This book can be read as the starting point or like I did after finishing the series.

Honestly in book 1 Demure, Aodhan comes across a bit brutish and cold but you eventually come to love him in the series.

This book is from His perspective and explains so much more of why he is like that. He truly doesn't mean too be it just is a mixture of reasons which im not going to spoil here.

This book let him come into his own! His feelings, struggles in the human world, discovering what love truly is and why it's worth fighting for.

I also loved seeing him reconnect with his cousin Braan and rebuilding his connection with him, also with Brian's wife because she is too adorable and he doesnt know how to deal with that.

As for the vibes it totally reminds me of Dublin, the university and especially the rain 😂

Thank you Hope for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the book and sharing your magical world with us.

I initially thought Aodhan was a total weirdo in Demure (he totally was, right??) and eventually I warmed to him and actually liked him. I REALLY enjoyed getting his perspective in this book (more than I thought I would) and getting to know him more and understand why he came off as a total weirdo.

Braan (the angel baby love of my life) explaining condoms to Aodhan is COMEDY GOLD and I would pay a small fortune to see it acted out. Now accepting fancast suggestions for who would play Aodhan.

This is only Demure rewritten from Aodhan’s perspective, meaning that lowkey emotionally devastating thing that happens in Bold doesn’t happen again in this book. I was kind of really glad I didn’t have to be emotionally destroyed again. (The author knows what she did!)

I received this book as an ARC (thanks Hope!) and all these thoughts are my own.

This is a short snappy read that draws you in straight away. The characters are really likeable and the mystery around what happens leaves you wanting more as you make your way through the book.

The storyline is face paced with short chapters which suits my reading style I really enjoyed seeing what happened next with each of the characters. The mixture of fae and human worlds is brought into the book really well along with the story as to what brought each of the characters to where they are. The romance is slow burn with some spice.

I would highly recommend this book, it’s great for an in between reads as it’s fast paced and short. Looking forward to finding out why happens in book 2.

3 stars! Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

I love anything set in Ireland and this was no exception - I loved the banter between the characters and how easily the writing flowed which made it a lovely quick, short read. I believe it is a novella in a series so this was like an urban adventure Romantasy of Aodhan de Thauidh 8 months in Dublin (where he seems pretty lost half the time!)

As a languages teacher, I also loved the added dialogue in Spanish and the mention of Gaelic too. I don’t usually like novellas but this one had me laughing throughout, so thank you!!

Wow. Just, wow. This is possibly one of the best (at least top 3) fae centered books I've EVER read. It's definitely one of the cutest romance books ever written, and I'm so happy the next one is already out. This book had me kicking my feet with how cute it was. The characters are ADORABLE, and you fall in love with each one. There were definitely parts that made me giggle hysterically (the condoms 😂😂), and there was a twinge of heart racing moments too. This is definitely a book you NEED to read if you're into fae romance. The spice isn't overwhelming, and definitely doesn't take away from the plot, like you see in some romances. 10/10!

Demure was beautiful and well done, one if my favorites. But getting Brazen, Aodhan's POV book, was an absolute delight. No more worrying about what he was thinking while we were reading to the story by Sierra's pov. This one was so so good, I couldn't get enough of Aodhan side of the story. All he was suppse to do was go kidnap her and get her back home. But as soon as he laid eyes on her everything change. Their journey was just beginning. Finding her, her knowing about him, both getting to know each, finding out who he really was, it was an amazing journey. This one has been added to my favorite

First time reading this series, and I actually enjoyed it. It’s not easy to make a male POV sound authentic, but this book really delivers.
I love the worldbuilding, how there are two realms, and how this fae guy arrives knowing nothing about humans.
Aodhan is a really interesting fae. Being an empath makes his life difficult, but it also helps him understand everything better.
Sierra is a beautiful character. I’m eager to read her POV in Demure because Aodhan was very annoying at first, and I know it’ll be hilarious to see what she was thinking.
I can’t wait to start Bold! I need to know how it ends ♥️

Thank you to the author for gifting me this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a second book in a series, of so far three books, that is told exclusively from the MMC point of view. The first book is the FMC characters pov and then third book is the combo of both of them.

Our main male character, Aodhan is a Fae and our main female character, is Sierra, a Mexican American living in Dublin Ireland.

This is the story of how Aodhan's father has sent him on a mission to save the Fae world and Sierra is the savior.

We have he falls first (when he knows he shouldn't), travel between worlds.

It was a good story - I enjoyed reading about them.

Not an overly great read for me. There was a lot of repetition that seemed redundant, and like it was forgotten that it was already explained. I assumed going into this that it was just like the first book but different POV, but it felt like I was missing chunks of information that would have me helped me understand parts of the story.

I’m sure if you were a fan of Demure, you would enjoy this. However, it didn’t leave me wanting to continue the series.

It was so much fun reading this story from Aodhan’s perspective!! He’s such an awkward, shy person and I don’t think we really see much of that in Demure, but it’s genuinely hilarious.
I also think the best way to read this would be in Tandem with Demure. They have their arcs slightly shifted, so the tenor of the stories would change? But I think it would be super fun.
Also it was super crazy to hold this in my hand because I beta’d for it and it’s like, girlie pop you were literally a google doc a few months ago 🥹🥹

After having read Demure, I was intrigued whether this would be the exact same book and whether the storytelling would feel stale or repetitive.

I was genuinely intrigued throughout the whole book. There were some scenes that were downright hilarious (see, banana) and reading the before the before was also very entertaining.

The book holds its own weight without having to have read Demure prior, which is genuinely what you’d hope for when writing a “from his POV” book.

This was a fun and quick read. While I already read Demure, it was great to see that time through the eyes of the MMC. Especially when that MMC is from a completely different world and now experiences human things.

While there are quite some similarities to Demure in terms of plot, the read is refreshing with some absolutely hilarious and some emotional new parts. Aodhan is an amazing MMC and this was a great addition to the series.

I hadn’t read the earlier books in this series before picking up Brazen, but now I’m genuinely excited to go back and start from the beginning.

This novella does a great job of pulling you in quickly, with tension that keeps building in all the right ways. I loved the dynamic shift from wanting to capture her to wanting to save her—it added just the right amount of emotional pull.

Overall, a really solid, engaging read that definitely made me want more from this world.

Brazen is part of the Modern Legends of Sidhe series.
Brazen is Aodhan POV,
He is ordered by his father to kidnap Sierra and bring her to the Fae realm…..but how could he when she’s the most amazing person he’s ever met!!!!

Having read Demure( which I love) I enjoyed Aodhan character already; but this book made me love him even more!!! the book provide heartfelt moments as well as some comical moments with Aiden‘s adaption to the human world.

There is also an option to read Brazen in Tandem with Demure🤗

I forgot to write a review and I'm at work so short and sweet it will have to be.
This was my first time reading anything by this author. I loved it. I'm very picky about the books I read, I'm not afraid to not finish something I don't like, that being said I devoured this book. Strong female lead! And I loved the Gaelic as it holds a special part for me. I really loved this book.

This is a great new perspective on a wonderful story to begin with! I got to ARC read this book and I love this one (maybe a little more than Demure).
Watching the guy fall first is always fun and seeing it happen from his side! I also thinks this help him not look so much like an A** as he does in the Serria POV.
I did the tandem read and the story just exploded and was amazing!!!!
