Six O'Clock Saints

Rate this book
A compendium of fifteen short stories about great Saints for young readers or listeners.

From the inside

"It is important that children should feel a fellowship with the Saints, but it is a difficult when you are six of eight or ten or twelve to feel a fellowship with even the most attractive Saints if you only see them doing grown-up things. You may feel them admirable, but scarcely companionable. Joan Windham has avoided the difficulty. In these sixteen stories she writes either of what the Saints did when they really were children, or of such actions of their adult years as the child can really enter into — things it would love to do itself.

She tells her stories with great verve. Claiming for ourselves no expert judgement in the matter of children's tastes, we tried these on as many children as we could lay hold of. That is how we came to publish them."

In the movie "Millions" (2004), Six O'Clock Saints was young Damian's prized possession.

This Kindle edition is a faithful reproduction of the original 1934 publication, with all illustrations plus an Active Table of Contents. This book makes for superb bedtime stories, or a book to be enjoyed by young readers. Have a "Look Inside".
