This is an aggressive book. You probably won’t like it.
It’s quite doubtful you have the courage, conviction, or clarity to appreciate a manifesto this unapologetic. We’d suggest you stick to safer, fluffier business books.
BUT... if you want to know what separates the obscure from the outstanding, the replaceable from the irreplaceable, and the overlooked from the overbooked?
Then dive into these pages so you
- Attract top-tier clients, partners, and investors without chasing. - Own your niche and become the definitive voice in your industry. - Win attention from media, prospects, and competitors alike. - Scale your influence far beyond word of mouth or referrals. - Turn your reputation into a magnet for high-value opportunities. - Shrink sales cycles because prospects show up pre-sold on you. - Get invited to the right rooms, stages, and deals. - Lead a movement and amplify your long-term impact.
I found this book to be a deeply practical guide for experts and founders who want to be recognized for the value they already deliver. What stood out most was the clear distinction between being good at what you do and being known for what you do. The author explains why expertise alone isn’t enough and shows how to build visibility, trust, and momentum through bold thinking, consistent publishing, and meaningful differentiation.
I especially appreciated the structure of the 22 strategies. Each chapter offers a lens for thinking rather than a list of tactics, making the ideas easy to apply across different types of businesses. The sections on slant, meaning, resistance, and language were particularly strong, and the exercises throughout helped translate concepts into real action. This book gives readers a framework for elevating their authority in a noisy marketplace and offers insights that are both strategic and easy to implement.
I also gained language to better articulate my own business success. By stepping out of the middle of the road and sharing contrarian viewpoints that counter my industry’s common wisdom, I’ve attracted stronger clients and prospects. This book clarifies why those choices worked and shows how I can continue leaning into those strategies.
As a veteran executive with 30+ years of experience driving growth & innovation across startups, established organizations, and community initiatives, "Market Eminence" resonated profoundly with both my professional philosophy & my day-to-day leadership challenges.
David Newman’s approach goes beyond surface-level branding & gets straight to the heart of what it takes to build authentic influence & organizational momentum. The concept of the “obscurity tax” - the real & unseen cost of going unnoticed by the very people you’re meant to serve - hit home for anyone in entrepreneurial roles who knows the dangers of being the best-kept secret in the room. David’s structure of 22 actionable strategies offers practical tools that translate directly to virtually any organization.
One idea that stood out: “If you don’t risk turning some people off, you’ll never turn anybody on.” In my experience, I’ve seen that organizations making real impact have the courage to declare what they stand for & against. This book reinforced the value of bold, differentiated messaging for revenue, & for mission-driven influence & attracting top partners / talent.
After reading, I’m committed to amplifying my organization’s distinctive voice & using the frameworks on influence, storytelling, & momentum to accelerate growth. David’s advice to “...stop copying competitors & start leading with your authentic perspective” rings true for businesses facing challenging landscapes & thought leaders seeking real change.
I would highly recommend "Market Eminence" to CEOs, board members, fundraisers, & anyone committed to organizational or personal growth. It’s a must-read for those building brands that matter - whether you’re leading a social enterprise, a membership association, or a business. For professionals who have worked to help others shine, this book is an invitation to step up as a trusted, visible authority, & make your mission impossible to ignore.
I’ve been a follower and student of David Newman for some time now. His advice has always served me well. It has taught me to pay attention to his words.
David’s latest advice is to take notice. Your field has plenty of smart, capable, hardworking leaders, but not many truly stand out. Fewer still have earned genuine trust. Just a handful reach market eminence.
Market eminence is that special place where • your words carry weight • your name becomes a brand • your business grows because of who you are and how you show up
David Newman’s book “Market Eminence” will help you: • build a standout brand that drives business growth • links your personal visibility to your company’s market position • turns your bold, different thinking into more revenue, higher recognition, and deeper respect • makes you impossible to ignore in your industry and impossible to replace by your clients
David’s book provides you 22 strategies to: • build a bold personal brand • become a business celebrity in your own right • drive unstoppable growth
You’ll find his delivery of each of the 22 Strategies is well designed… • for each, he presents a key Principle • followed by a Quick Definition • shares How To Think about it • anchors understanding with Mind Spark Questions • helps you implement them with an Exercise • throws in a Bonus Tip here and there to speed your progress
You don’t need to buy and read this book. But if you don’t, as you watch others appear to move their businesses forward smoothly and seemingly effortlessly – it might haunt you that they bought and read a copy and put it into action.
I won’t close this recommendation with some quote about the lost earnings you may suffer by not following David’s advice. After all, if you’re going to be successful, you can make up the money.
Here are just 3 of the dozens of career-boosting insights you’ll discover in this book:
1. How to win against AI David says out loud what we all know: the marketing world of same ol’ lame-o pitches and persuasive tactics has exploded, with everyone regurgitating what ChatGPT spits out. Use this to your great advantage: David will inspire you to be YOU – an individual that AI can never replicate – and to be heard above all the suffocating mediocrity out there.
2. How to remove fear (so you can do what you were meant to do) All your lack of progress and procrastination comes down to fear. David shows you easy-to-apply strategies that makes fear evaporate, replacing it with confidence as you march towards eminence in your field.
3. How to zig when others zag The surest way to be heard above the noise is to be a contrarian. If you answer the questions David asks in this book, it will reveal exactly what you must say to appear on the radar of your best clients.
Above all, Market Eminence is a marvelous example to mimic: David’s writing style and voice sounds *exactly* like who he is. If you enjoy this book (and you will!) then you’ll enjoy David. And THAT is the authentic lesson to follow - you are unique, so make your writing and videos and style be consistently you. And you’ll soon attract those whom you are most qualified to help.
I could write more but see for yourself: you’ll not regret a single minute spent reading and learning how to achieve market eminence in 2026 and beyond. Then mark your calendar: look back in 6 months to see how much you have grown in recognition in your field.
(David Newman wrote 3 other terrific books – I have them all. You may want them too!)
David Newman has done it again. Like his first three books—Do It! Marketing, Do It! Speaking, and Do It! Selling—his newest work, Market Eminence: 22 Strategies to Build a Bold Personal Brand, Become a Business Celebrity, and Drive Unstoppable Growth—is packed with practical, action-oriented strategies to help you elevate your personal brand.
Unlike his previous “77 instant-action ideas” format, this book focuses on 22 deeper strategies—and more importantly, it teaches you how to think. You’ll come away with not only actionable tactics but also a real mindset shift about branding and influence.
One of my favorite insights comes when Newman explains that true influence isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room—it’s about saying something worth repeating, something that connects with the audience you’re trying to reach. That’s the kind of clarity and wisdom this book delivers throughout.
Each chapter combines clear thinking with simple, implementable steps. Near the end, Newman emphasizes three powerful pillars for building authority—speaking, publishing, and podcasting—and shows how these can dramatically expand your visibility, credibility, and respect in your market.
This isn’t a book you read once and shelve. It’s one to study, apply, and revisit as you build your brand and grow your business.
Bottom line: If you’re looking to stand out, increase your visibility, and become impossible to ignore, Market Eminence will show you how to do it.
Starting out with premises of lots of content. Don't tell them too much. Don't be yourself, hiding in the camouflage of the herd. Tell people what they need to hear, not the genius that you have because you can't give it all away before they pay. All of these widely held and practised by most who are trying to build a business. But they don't stand out because of all of the clutter that the market presents uniformly.
1st we start with an assessment, in four areas of product viability. A good baseline to assess and build on. Then, the challenge of creative inspirational material that catches attention and focuses marketplace on you. How to think, and not think outlined and defined. Because sometimes what not to do just as or more necessary to set the stage. Connecting with forward thinkers and contrarians Both useful in creation of this focus. Must haves in the corporate mix to rise to the top.
A key part of that is not telling, but showing and creating feeling. And David goes into detail about how this works. And where to share this, with centers of influence. Creating an impactful, actionable message and sharing with 10 key prospects. With this overall plan creating an absolutely crystal clear path to achieving the greatest results! Being contrarian is part of this in removing unnecessary barriers, creating a clear path with surprising content that challenges.
A No-Hype Roadmap for Becoming the Trusted Expert People Seek Out
As someone who works with a lot of coaches and consultants, I’m careful about the books I recommend. Too many of them focus on what amounts to visibility for visibility’s sake. “Market Eminence” takes a much-needed different approach.
David Newman has written a guide that challenges you to think differently, not just about how you show up, but what you *stand for* and how to lead with conviction, which has become a must in a crowded, skeptical market.
His ideas go beyond the typical “personal branding” advice. He helps you create meaningful differentiation, build trust with your audience, and become the kind of expert people actively *seek out*.
I appreciate that this isn’t just a book of tactics and hacks. It’s a strategic guide. I found the Slant chapter especially valuable. It provides a practical way to identify your strongest convictions and turn them into client-attracting language…without sounding hype-y or being overly polarizing or contrary.
If you do exceptional work and offer real results, and want the market to see you as the go-to expert in your space, this book will give you actionable frameworks to do exactly that. That’s what I love about David Newman’s work. I can count on him for frameworks I can go back to again and again.
Market Eminence is definitely not the kind of book you read and put back on the shelf. David Newman comes out of the gate swinging with a bold, harsh truth: 'In a world drowning in noise, the worst thing you can be is forgettable.'
He then walks you through why being forgettable will negatively impact your business, leading up to the 22 steps that will kickstart your market eminence. I particularly appreciate the scorecard that he included. Being pushed to do some self-reflection before jumping into the steps primed my mind for being more receptive to the steps he laid out.
The accompanying exercises and bonus material made implementing and really applying what he shared, as I was reading it, so much easier (let's be honest, we often fall into the trap of reading but never doing).
As he said, 'If you’re ready to create business momentum that will last for years to come, this book is for you.'
I’m not often motivated enough to write a review, but this book is different to most because it tackles all-important strategic marketing issues head on by providing real-world solutions to common marketing challenges. For example, Mr Newman identifies ‘best-kept-secret’ syndrome where a supplier/provider has a 10/10 product trapped inside 2/10 marketing. My favorite chapter is ‘Myths: Challenge the BS’ (and there is a LOT of that in the world of marketing). When I read that chapter, I felt like I was given a permission slip to trust myself and back my instincts; it was a breath of fresh marketing air.
I strongly endorse Market Eminence for anyone wanting to get uplevel their marketing performance. Successful marketing starts with mindset, a subject on which this book delivers in spades, but you then also need smart strategy and practical tips for execution, which is also waiting for you inside this book.
I enjoyed how the book presents its ideas in short, well-designed sections that are easy to absorb. The layout and visual choices made the concepts simple to follow. Throughout were thought provoking questions that I want to find time to get back to and work through, and even ideas of how to repackage what you discover about yourself from the questions into posts for social media. I also appreciated the mix of quotes and examples, which helped the material feel approachable.
My favorite quote has to be "Thinking about thinking is the most important kind of thinking." (Very meta, no?) The structure of the first section made it easy to skim and still note which parts I want to revisit more deeply.
I highly recommend that, if you want to elevate your brand and become more memorable in your industry, you check out this book by David Newman. I can't wait to put some of these ideas into practice!
Just finished Market Eminence and wow — it’s sharp, refreshing, and straight to the point. David cuts past all the surface-level branding talk and gets into the real mindset shifts and positioning strategies that actually move the needle. It makes you want to immediately go take bolder action.
What I especially loved is how he gives language to the experience so many of us have — being excellent at what we do but still feeling like a “best kept secret.” The way he frames becoming truly known, trusted, and sought-after feels empowering, not performative. It’s about stepping into earned leadership, not playing the internet game.
If you’re a founder, consultant, or expert who knows you deliver real value but want to be seen at the level you deserve, this is required reading. Practical, validating, and genuinely motivating.
What I love most about this book is its unapologetically contrarian stance. It refuses the tired idea that visibility comes from being louder, and instead shows how real authority comes from sharper thinking, bolder ideas, and speaking directly to the right people.
As someone who helps entrepreneurs grow through authentic connection—not tricks or noise—I appreciate how this framework puts substance over spectacle. The focus on challenging assumptions, shifting beliefs, and calling out industry myths felt refreshingly aligned with how I already teach my clients to lead with mission, not manipulation.
If you want to stand out without selling out, this book gives you a clear, thoughtful roadmap for doing exactly that.
Market Eminence is much more than expertise. David reminds us that it’s not competition holding us back, but rather staying hidden. It’s about showing up, being trusted, and becoming someone people can’t ignore.
“You don’t need to be famous. But you do need to be known, trusted, and remembered by the people who matter most.”
This quote hit home. It reminded me of two simple yet powerful truths. Copying others makes you fade into the background, and staying busy can become a clever disguise for playing small. The 22 strategies in this book are simple, practical, and powerful. They inspired you to lead with courage, conviction, and authenticity.
Market Eminence is unlike any business book I’ve ever read. Its myth-busting content connects advice, discernment, strategy and action to guide the reader toward transformational leadership. More than a book, it delivers an advisor-by-your-side, inspiring you to develop the mindset, decision-making savvy, and personal and professional branding that will elevate your presence and set you and your business apart from the crowd. I was also surprised and delighted to discover free companion tools – video training, bonus chapters, worksheets and AI prompts – that offer valuable resources to jump-start business development. Thank you, David Newman!
This book provides a short, sharp, succinct and smart protocol to move from bland and boring to market eminence - and prominence! It clearly and compellingly - with no vacuous phrases - explains why (and how) to be more confident, more compelling, more consistent and more COURAGEOUS so as to lead with ease and become the only choice for your 'right-fit' clients. One of my best take-a-ways was to be (more) contrarian because 'if no one hates you, no one will love you!' Which is what I'm taking to heart and plan to implement in a variety of place! Thanks for another great book David Newman - this one's jet fuel for market eminence!
Market Eminence is a powerful resource for the busy entrepreneur wanting more visibility, credibility, and growth. David Newman makes his framework and all of his concepts accessible to the reader in 3 main sections, each with bite sized chapters, packed with wisdom, actionable strategies, and thought provoking Mind Spark Questions. Gorgeously laid out on the inside, the book isn’t just content packed, it’s a joy to read. Do more than just read the book; block the time to actually answer the questions he asks and implement the ideas that are sparked.
Forget 'fluffy' personal branding advice—this is the strategic blueprint you need to escape best-kept-secret syndrome. Newman delivers 22 actionable, deep-dive strategies that move beyond surface-level tactics to focus on the 'how-to-think' of market leadership. If you're a founder or expert ready to turn your ideas into a magnet for top-tier clients and opportunities, this book is required reading for long-term eminence and unstoppable growth.
This book could not have come at a better time for me. Concise, yet bursting with inspiring information that I'm putting into practice to-day. I feel like this book gives me a roadmap on how to jumpstart areas of weaknesses for my new business while supercharging others. I'll be referencing it on the daily as I continue to build out my presence in the world. Thank you!
Mr. Newman never fails to impress. I have all of his books to date, and every one of them is a tour de force regarding its subject matter.
His latest is no different. Well researched, timely information, practical exercises, easy to read, and punchy.
What more could you ask for? If you're in business, an entrepreneur, a leader, or a business owner, do yourself a favor and grab a copy for yourself and some more for friends.
I found Market Eminence easy to use as a weekly resource. Not only are the chapters concise and can be read quickly, but the structure you can also immediately implement each idea in your own work right away. The structure makes it simple to take one concept at a time and put it into practice, and I noticed meaningful shifts in how I approached my marketing as I worked through the material. It’s a helpful book for readers who prefer practical steps they can implement right away.
Market Eminence is packed with real-world guidance for experts and thought leaders who want to become the go-to authority in their field. David Newman shows how to build credibility, attract the right clients, and communicate your value with authenticity and precision. It's a clear, practical roadmap for professionals who are serious about earning trust and standing out for the right reasons.
So many great nuggets in this book! I have personally worked with David and he has masterfully complied powerful concepts into digestible chunks with concrete action to move forward with. Chapter 14 talking about "Bold Declarations" has been fundamental to supporting pursuit of my niche and the disproportional value I can drive for my practice. Well worth the read!
Rarely is a book on marketing practical, succinct and impactful. But Marketing Eminence is. David Newman helps readers use their expertise to become authentically distinctive and yes, eminent. This is a smart, generous guide for professionals who want to be known for what they do best.
David Newman does it again! Another pithy, Newman-style bop them over the head with resources and techniques that you can implement immediately! I always enjoy reading David's books (yes, I have all of them) because he is no BS, here's what to do...IF you choose to do it! And if you do the things he tells you - you WILL generate business. This isn't theory - it's David walking his talk. As he says: "I'm either teaching you or doing it to you..." Brilliant Market Eminence in a bottle! Thanks, David!
