I received a complimentary advance reader’s copy of this book, but was not required to leave a review. But a great book like this deserves a review…. It’s always fun to pop back into Eastwind, a parallel world to our own where witches, shifters and the like live together. This is the 6th book starring Dahlia and she’s the third 5th Wind witch to have found her way into Eastwind (after Ruby True and Nora Ashcroft) and just like the two others she’s found herself a hellhound companion in Atlas. In this book poor Atlas, who easily spooks as it is (due to growing up the only white hellhound in the Darkwoods) becomes the center of a dreadful prophecy. During a fundraiser for the Better Together animal sanctuary, the Prophetess of the Deadwoods announces that ‘The apocalypse arrives riding a great white hound’ which of course everyone interprets as being poor Atlas bringing doom. Dahlia immediately starts to investigate what this all means and if there’s anything she can do to protect her familiar; avoid the apocalypse. To make things even more challenging her boyfriend Dante is off to another realm for a once in a lifetime chance to train under a famous chef and can’t help her. But Atlas gets unexpected support from some animals from the sanctuary and while Eastwind has strange phenomena popping up daily (including a hilariously streaking witch) Dahlia pieces clues together bit by bit. To say more here would spoil the story for you, but let me tell you it’s a wonderful ending! Think ‘basket full of puppies/kittens’ kind of aww… and you might need a tissue or two… Apocalypse Woof comes highly recommended!
I received a complimentary advance reader’s copy of this book, but was not required to leave a review. This is my voluntarily given, honest opinion.
I recently binged the Dahlia Wildes series and was happy to be invited to be an advanced reader for her latest book. I had also read all of the Eastwind series - including the novellas and free stories - and enjoyed them tremendously. This book has all of the magic that Nova Nelson puts into her books. The plot never feels like it's being manipulated and there is no sudden 'hand of God' type of solution to whatever problem exists. The characters are interesting, have personalities that stay consistent, and interact in a realistic way. The whole idea of a realm where different types of supernatural creatures all coexist isn't particularly new, but I find Eastwind to be a destination that draws me back again and again. I also like that not every story has to be about a murder needing to be solved. I also want to note that though this book and the others in the Eastwind series might be targeted to a stereotypical cozy readership, I'm an engineer and read over a hundred books each year over a wide range of genres. I encourage others that might consider books like this to be too juvenile to reconsider; sometimes letting go of being serious is a great way to relax and enjoy life. My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, is that the books are always just too short - I want them to go on for much longer.
A fundraiser to help feed and house the familiars who have no witch has grown over the years to be quite the fair. Poor Atlas is still struggling to be brave, but when a child asks if they could pet him, that's when his fear level rises. He still is scared of being 'bopped on the head', Before he stepped out of the Darkwoods that is all his life was, the black hellhounds bopping him over the head. The child pet him gently and now he feels brave enough to join Grimm in food searching. The day is light and care free and Dante has important new for her. He will be going out of state for a culinary apprenticeship for only 30 days. Shortly after the Prophetess swoops into the fair and shouts a prophecy . The citizens are concerned. Number one, her prophecies come every thirteen years, this one is a year ealy. Secondly she says a white hellhound will bring the apocalypse. Poor Atlas! They manage to get him home to hunker down and stay out of view. Odd things begin to happen which makes people even more fearful of the prophecy. Dalia heads with Ted to visit The hermit who delivered the message. Will she have answers or raise more questions? The apocalypse, does it mean total annihilation or survival destruction? The characters are great, anticipation is strong and Thank You, Nova Nelson to another great journey to Eastwood.
Dahlia's sweet, anxiety ridden familiar prefers not to attract attention (it might get him bopped!), but now he's at the center of a prophesy that's got the whole of Eastwind in an uproar. And he's getting plenty of attention, mostly of the hostile variety. But he and Dahlia work together, and with a few new friends, to get to the bottom of this potential apocalypse.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book, and this is my voluntary review.
Dahlia has plenty of her own insecurities, but she's working through them, and she'd do absolutely anything for her favorite hellhound. This book was especially heartwarming--despite the dire circumstances!--as Dahlia enlists help she hates asking for and Atlas makes new friends. Somewhat snarky friends he didn't ask for and isn't too sure about, but friends that show they won't let him down.
And the ending! Well, that was quite the twist. No, not that twist; the other one. It's a very sweet and happy ending that you're just going to have to take a trip to Eastwind to discover for yourself. And I'll always recommend a trip to Eastwind, which somehow always feels like home. If you've never been, go now!
This is the 6th book in the series and it is a fantastic addition to the entire series. In this book, Dahlia a fifth wind witch has ended up in Eastwood and has her hellhound familiar, Atlas with her. He is not the usual black hellhound - he is white, which causes him to be very cautions of everything. When at the fundraiser for the Better Together animal sanctuary, the Prophetess of the Deadwoods announces that an apocalypse is coming because of a white hellhound. This makes the town looking at Atlas as the cause of the coming apocalypse. Of course, Dahlia has to try and stop this from happening and finding what or who is the cause to save her Atlas. With Dahlia's boyfriend away, it is up to only Dahlia and Atlas having to come out of his shell to solve this. But Atlas has help with the animals that are in the sanctuary. Can they all come together and stop an apocalypse and save Atlas? This is a fast, page turning book that you just can't put down once you begin. Not only do I highly recommend this book, but I highly recommend the entire series. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Dahlia's life in Eastwind has never been boring. With the Grim Reaper's friendship, a telepathic hellhound (who's scared of almost everything) as her "familiar", messenger service provided by owls ala "Harry Potter", and a werebear as a boyfriend ... it's almost impossible to imagine an uneventful day.
Now a prophetess makes herself known with the cryptic prophecy for which they're rather infamous, and things begin to go even crazier than normal - and in Eastwind, that's saying a lot. Dahlia had to die in order to live in Eastwind, but if I knew I'd live in Eastwind after death on Earth, I wouldn't fear death at all.
This series is great! There's no place I can imagine where I'd prefer to live, if I had the option.
I received this novel as an advanced reader's copy, but my ratings are never contingent upon the price I paid.
When Fifth Wind witch Dahlia Wildes arrived in Eastwind she was homeless and friendless. Now after months in Eastwind, Dahlia has boyfriend Dante, a job, friends Nora and her husband Tanner and her wonderful familiar, hellhound, Atlas. When a prophetess claims that there is a white beast on the way, they all look to all-white Atlas, a timid, shy and scared at his own shadow familiar, they are sure that he is the beast. Now Dahlia, Dante and friends must save Atlas from a mob determined to rid the town of the beast. Dahlia is on a mission to save her boy Atlas. I love this series and I must say that Atlas may be my favorite familiar of all time. A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
A vague prophecy delivered a year early in Eastwind?
What could possibly go wrong with a vague prophecy delivered by an odd prophetess? Seems everything when she points everyone right at Atlas as the harbinger of doom! Can Dahlia and her new band of different friends than we might be used to (sorry, no spoilers, you're going to have to read for that one!) seeing stop all the strange occurrences happened around town before the population of Eastwind demands Atlas's head? With Dante out of town, Dahlia will have to chase this one with a lot of helps from her friends! Best in series so far with lots of things going on and twists you won't see coming!
May I say that I adore Atlas? He is the goodliest good boy ever.
And Dahlia is his perfect match since she is kind and loving and (almost) always thinks the best of and wants the best for everyone.
What if the outcome of something you dreaded turned out to be an amazing event in the lives of others? What if the scary trial you had to undergo created joy for others? What if everyone received the incalculable treasure of a magical friendship bond? This and more awaits for your reading pleasure.
Highly recommended!
Although it was my pleasure to receive this ARC from the author, it was completely my choice to share my honest review.
"I received a complimentary advance reader’s copy of this book, but was not required to leave a review. This is my voluntarily given, honest opinion." This was a very good read..... They are having a little fair to raise money for an animal shelter when a woman came and got on stage and declared the end of the world was coming and poor Atlas has a paw in it.... He is so scared and devastated 💔..... Now Dehlia has to figure out what's up and protect Atlas.... And on top of that there's a woman running around naked and cackling.... Go figure 🤔 LOL..... Dahlia definitely has her hands full on this one.... You will enjoy this book I promise..... I thoroughly did.....
Dahlia Wilde is getting settled into her new life in Eastwind with her anxious hellhound familiar Atlas and a new werebear boyfriend when things start to go wrong. It begins with a prophesy of doom, and all signs point to Atlas as the bringer of the apocalypse. It’s up to Dahlia to unravel the meaning of the prophesy, with the help of old friends and new ones. Her quest will keep you turning the pages as she learns about the founders of Eastwind and the old animosities that keep resurfacing. A fun addition to the Eastwind series. (I received a complimentary advance reader’s copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. This is my voluntarily given, honest opinion.)
AW! I loved this book! I am a total animal lover, so this sweet cozy paranormal mystery was right up my alley! I always love Dahlia and Atlas, of course; the addition of other non-attached familiars was a very welcome surprise... and the way the whole story revolved around the animals was just so wonderful! I would recommend this entire series, in general, and this book in particular, to absolutely anyone who likes sweet, magical characters and cozy mysteries! I sincerely look forward to the next Dahlia Wildes book (and hope Atlas plays as large of a role in that one, too)!
Dahlia is feeling at home in Eastwind until a prophetess announces the apocalypse is coming led by a great white monster. Of course, that describes Dahlia’s hellhound Atlas who is a gentle giant. Dahlias knows she will need to resolve this issue for Atlas. She arrives home from work and finds her bedroom invaded by a group of shelter familiars tending to Atlas. Dahlia is exploring all avenues to find the answer and discovers one piece after another. This is a puzzling story but I love the ending!
In this story the familiars steal the show- not only is Atlas put on the hot seat- but he has lots of protectors to help him out. Dahlia is, of course, there for him but Atlas has to find his bravery and helps solve the case. While all the Dahlia stories have been good, this one reminds me the most of the Eastwind Witches series- the energy of those stories is here and made the pages fly by. I received a complimentary advance reader’s copy of this book, but was not required to leave a review. This is my voluntarily given, honest opinion.
I have read several books in this series about a magical town filled with magic folk, and I enjoy the gentle humor and the camaraderie among the townspeople. Dahlia, a rare type of witch, is relatively new to both the town and to having magical powers. Dahlia’s special gift is her ability to speak to all familiars, not only her own, a hellhound named Atlas. When a curse begins to take shape endangering the town, she’s able to use her gift to create a circle of familiars to ward it off. Fun to read and very gentle.
I love this series and this one in particular was such a lovely story of facing your fears and the most unexpected bonds. It left me feeling so cozy and peaceful. Perfect cozy mystery and I highly recommend curling up with a cup of something and a blanket and loosing yourself in Eastwind for a few hours.

When a streaking seer points a finger at Atlas as the cause of an apocalypse in Eastwind, Dahlia has to get to the bottom of it. Atlas is scared and can't go out without people staring and pointing. But other animals start showing up and treating Atlas as their leader. Will Dahlia find out what is going on? Can Atlas find enough courage to stop the apocalypse? Great characters and world building. Don't miss this book.
More excitement in East Wind when someone arrives with a prophecy that gets the entire place upset and frightened. Going along with Dahlia as she investigates is definitely very entertaining. I love all the magical beings in this series as well as the storyline. Another excellent addition to this series.
I loved it! Dahlia and Atlas are on another fun adventure together and Atlas is up to his usual “bravery”. Dante is off to cooking school and he is missed, and Ted steps in to help her. Dahlia ends up talking to even more familiars and Atlas ends up with a fan club. All in all a fun read. And I look forward to their next adventure.
I read an ARC copy of this book and I honestly enjoyed it.
Another wonderful read, with a surprising twist. Didn't see that coming. Wonderful ending. Thank you Nova Nelson for a terrific visit to Eastwind. Totally Love the series and it will be on my TBRA (to be read again) list.
Ooooh! Dante is going to have quite a surprise when he gets back home! This story was super coo. I love the whole familiars circle. I love that Atlas ended up with a whole bunch of friends. This book just turned Eastwind on its head in the best possible way. I absolutely loved it!
This cozy mystery series is fabulous. The characters and their relationships touch every emotion. This book will definitely leave you with lifted spirits. So looking forward to the next book in this series.
I sat here and read it straight through this morning. I could not have walked away from it if I had tried. Wonderfully written. Thank you. Now hurry up and get the next one out.
As usual, Dahlia finds herself in the middle of a mystery. After a prophecy involving Atlas, she has to research the town history so that she can fix things.
Loved this book. It was wonderful to visit with some of my favorite characters. I really feel like this is the best book in the series so far and they’ve all been pretty great! Maybe it’s because the familiars plays such a big roll in the town happenings but I was swept away by this story. Whatever it was I’m looking forward to more; more magic, more Atlas & Grim, more fun.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
