Bitter Sip

You warned me once "the world" is cruel,
people don't stay,
they come to teach,
to hurt,
to wake us up,
then they leave.
I was naïve enough not to realize you were "the world" , "my world"

Bitter Sip is a collection of poetry and prose about love, heartbreak and resilience.
It contains the ache of losing, the courage of healing, and the quiet power of moving on.

If you've ever loved too deeply or healed too slowly, these poems will feel like home.
They speak of the kind of pain that breaks you and the strength that rebuilds you.
Pain has the power to break us. But healing – has the power to make us.

I don't want to go into much detail. I just want to say that this isn't a book; It's an emotion. It's like a warm cup of tea on a cold day in a cozy corner of home.
Dedicated to all those who endured pain in life. You are not alone. All you need to do is one thing – Keep going with courage.

Poetry is something I always wanna like, but sometimes I just don’t get it or don’t connect with it. But I want to try them now and then:) so when I got this ARC, of course I wanted to try it!

I loved that the poems were simple to understand. It was unusual for me that they were set in current time so some poems spoke about wifi, phones etc. But I liked how the author connected those technologies with feelings. The metaphors in this book were very good.

There were some poems I really loved and connected to, and others where I didn’t, but of course that’s okay.
I think I also haven’t been through that kind of heartbreak (hopefully I’m not jinxing it haha) so that’s why I couldn’t really connect to the poems about that stuff.

Overall, I would recommend it!:)

Bitter Sip explores the complex journey of life, especially in matters of the heart. Ayesha Mohal uses her unique style to write about love, the passage of time, the pain of a broken heart, and the strength found in patience.
The line on the cover, "It stung, it scorched, you drank it anyway," tells you this book is about tough experiences in life and love that we choose to go through, even when we know they will hurt.
The verses are a mix of beautiful, raw feelings and quiet wisdom, offering comfort to anyone who has faced heartache and comes out stronger on the other side. It’s an easy-to-read collection that makes you feel less alone in your journey from pain to peace.
This is an honest book that makes you think about your own life. It looks closely at heartbreak, the ability to bounce back (resilience), and the hard lessons that change us. If you want a book that talks straight about real feelings and difficult relationships, Bitter Sip is a necessary and healing read. It reminds us that the hardest times are often what help us grow the most as people.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book Review: Bitter Sip by Ayesha Mohal

Bitter Sip is overflowing with love, love in all its tenderness, ache, softness, and truth. You can genuinely feel Ayesha Mohal’s heart in every poem; her writing holds this quiet, intimate magic that wraps around you as you read.

This was my first time reviewing a poetry collection, and I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. If you want to understand what love really is, its warmth, its depth, its ability to rise from your chest and spill outward, this book will take you there. It lifts your feelings right to the top of your heart and lets them breathe.

I’m incredibly grateful to the author for letting me be part of this journey. Truly a beautiful experience.

This book is a raw and intimate poetry collection, divided into three parts. The first one was soft and calming, the second one hit harder with all the pain and honesty and last one felt like healing and hope.

I really enjoyed reading it. What I loved most was how the three parts felt like stages of life starting with warmth then going through pain and finally finding a way to heal.

Even though I haven’t experienced some of the feelings mentioned but the poetry still made me understand and feel them in its own way. It’s like the words carry emotions that reach you indirectly you don’t need to live through it to feel it’s weight. That’s what made the collection so powerful.💛

3 words for this, MUSICAL, SOULFUL, UNFOLDED!

She compared love with a bitter sip of tea. It was very heartbreaking but also cozy in some way. All the relations and phases of love whether it’s a friendship or first love experience is explained in this little poetry book.

What you are getting in this poetry?
• Love from different eyes👁️
• Tea and coffee comparison in a positive way🫖
• Truthful words with a pinch of healing ❤️‍🩹

Bitter sip ☕️ by @ayeshah.writes

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautifully written on love, heartbreak, loss, and soul…
this isn’t just a book, it’s a feeling poured straight into your heart from its pages.
Over the past few days, it has been my comfort read. Writer has done a wonderful job with her debut, and if we talk about the cover... wooo! It instantly made me fall in love and left me with no option but to read it. As a chai lover, the cover was my weakness, and fittingly, I enjoyed most of this book while sipping chai. For me, it’s a solid 4-star read! 🌸☕

Everyone's cup of tea :) I think Ayesha was able to reflect on sincere, heartfelt, raw emotions and feelings through accessible, simple, yet beautifully crafted poetry. This feels like holding the author's hand through an intimate, personal and human journey of heartbreak for a love that seemed unconditional, so true, unique and honest but that suddenly ended. Then, how resilience and the belief that all is meant to be and a better tomorrow will be is not just possible but certain, I like the inclusion of few Rumi quotes too. I commend Ayesha for her courage and brave expression. Beautiful book.

From warmth to heartbreak, and finally, healing this book is divided into three parts:

1. Warmth in the Cup
2.When You Are Brewed in Silence
3.From the Burn to Bloom

The metaphor of tea is used to explore how love soothes, burns and transforms.

The writing is simple, emotional, and deeply relatable much like the works of Rupi Kaur or Najwa Zebian.Through recurring imagery of cups, silence, and self-reflection, the bittersweet beauty of human connection is captured.

*Bitter Sip* is not about grand poetry. It’s about honest emotions. A warm, comforting read for anyone who has loved, lost, and learned to rise again.

Bitter Sip – Book Review
Bitter Sip is Ayesha Mohal’s debut book, and it’s heartening to see indie writers taking the plunge and putting their thoughts and emotions on paper. I personally believe that if you can write, you should — and even if you only want to write, you should try. Writing remains one of the most powerful and profound mediums of expression; it translates emotions into words and allows us to convey what often feels inexpressible.

How do you define love? The feeling, the moments, the memories? Perhaps its definition is different for everyone. The emotion may be universal, but each person expresses it in a distinct way. Bitter Sip is a small yet meaningful book that captures this individuality beautifully. It’s part poetry, part prose — a hard-hitting collection drawn from the author’s own experiences, written straight from the heart. You can finish it in one sitting, coffee or tea in hand.

Divided into three distinct sections, the book takes the reader through falling in love, un-falling, and ultimately overcoming grief. At times, it reads like reminiscences of a life once lived in happiness — almost like a personal diary or journal. The author’s willingness to share such raw, intimate emotions makes the book feel honest and brave.

The language is simple yet soulful; the words carry genuine feeling. There are moments that give you a sense of déjà vu — as if you’ve lived those lines yourself. The book is further enhanced by scattered sketches that add to its charm. From single-line verses to full-page reflections, Bitter Sip offers an intimate, relatable, and deeply human reading experience.

There is a certain kind of magic in a book that demands nothing of you but your honesty in return. "Bitter Sip" by Ayesha Mohal is precisely that. It is a collection that does not hide behind elaborate words or complex metaphors that you have to unravel. Instead, it offers emotion in its most natural, untamed form. The language is a clear stream, not a murky ocean-you can see straight to the bottom, to the very heart of what is being said, and it is that clarity that makes the feeling so immense. It allows you to inhabit an emotion fully, even if it's one you've never had the language for yourself.
What truly captivates me, what I keep turning over in my mind, is the structure. The division of the journey into three chapters, and the sheer perfection of their names. I remember so clearly reading it in its raw form, the poems powerful but unanchored, a storm of feeling without a map.
To see it now, framed by these titles, is to understand the depth of Ayesha's vision. They are not just names; they are the very soul of each section, a single phrase that holds the weight of an entire emotional universe.
The poetry itself, of course, is what carries you. It is wonderful not because it is ornate, but because it is true. And the arc it follows-from the first flush of love, through the shattering of heartbreak, and finally, into the gentle, steadfast light of healing—is a journey I found myself breathing along with. As someone who constantly tries to map the terrain of healing through words, I can say this book feels like a revelation. It demonstrates the true essence of these emotions without artifice; it is a mirror held up to the process of falling apart and putting oneself back together.
This book holds a piece of my heart in a way others do not, because I was there. I witnessed its journey from a vulnerable manuscript to this profound final form. From beta reading its earliest whispers, to the discussions about naming its core chapters, to having a hand in shaping its visual identity through the cover design... I was a part of its becoming. To hold it now feels like holding something I helped nurture. It feels, in the most beautiful and humble way, like my own.

"A cup of poetry brewed with every emotion that is bitter in taste, but warm enough to heal what once ached"
_
REVIEW:
Firstly, thank you @ayeshah.writes for such a wholesome arc of "Bitter Sip"

There are some books that aren't just words rather they help you to get up, like a warm cup of tea on a weary day. Bitter Sip doesn't rush your healing; it lets you sip through your emotions slowly, one page at a time.

I'll admit, I do judge books by their covers.
Beautifully Ayesha captured heartbreak, warmth, and resilience all at once through the cracked teacup, the fallen petals.

Alhamdulillah, I didn't suffer such breakup but no relationship is without heart ache and healing. Hence, i could feel so much. So many lines reminded me of our love, of how many emotions we went through, picking the pieces of our heart when broken, being each other's warmth. Him semding me love letter in this era and truly giving me the luxury.

Other than the lines in my post, my fav pieces are "Bird in the Cage" "Look Back, Cinderella!" and "Break the Cage"
"Metaphorically, I've chosen the word 'cage' and not 'prison'. Because you're a bird, not a prisoner"
What a beautiful thing to connect broken souls with birds

The author knew that presentation matters therefore sprinkled little doodles which resonated each piece and im totally in love with.
A small critique: since the author is Muslim, whwn mentioning love stories, I would have liked a muslim perspective. The standard set by the couples of the Prophet's() time is on a different lvl. There lvl of yearning and understanding is ideal.

At times, the poems felt repetitive, but I understand that simplicity was intentional, Bitter Sip was meant to speak gently to anyone's heart.
(bonus) I feel dearest author has a special love for urdu language and even tho the poetry is in English but the beauty of Urdu language and culture could have been added as well

In the end, Bitter Sip reminded me that healing is slow. Like tea, even if it burns at first, it eventually soothes.

In the end, Bitter Sip is not just about pain, it’s about strength and hope. It teaches you to believe in yourself and reminds you that healing is possible, even after the hardest days 🌿. This book will comfort anyone who has ever loved, lost, and learned to rise again. 💫

"Bitter Sip" is a book that challenges you to think, to feel deeper than you ever thought you could. Even though the words might seem simple, they bring a unique vibe to the book, while also making it easier to understand.

The artworks are visually stunning, and they blend so well with each poem. This book felt like a reunion with an old friend that always gives the best hugs and advice.

While it may deal with some heavy topics, the author always makes sure to bring some light to the situation.

If I were to bring down "Bitter Sip" to a few words, I would say that it's a spring morning, when it's quiet, a bit chilly, but very calming.

(Thank you Ayesha Mohal for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review)

Bitter Sip is a cup of emotions, a mirror of heartbreak and a companion in healing.

The author takes us on a journey of love, loss, and resilience. Reading it felt like heartbreak and healing woven together. It speaks of loving someone too much, losing them, and then slowly learning to move forward.

Some of the poems touched me deeply, even though I haven’t personally gone through heartbreak. Maybe it’s because I could sense the rawness of the author’s emotions. Strangely, the book healed a part of me I didn’t know needed healing.

For me, this book is a gentle reminder that even after the burn, we can still bloom. 🥀

"Stop hiding in silence,
hollow haunted places
Disappearing for your peace,
isn’t a fleece."

First of all, I’m incredibly grateful to have received an ARC, especially since this is my first poetry book.

The title truly does the book justice, it really was a Bitter Sip.

My favorite pieces were "Embrace the Timing" and "We Should Meet Again", from which I shared the excerpt above.
The poems felt raw and reflective, the kind you sip slowly and sit with afterward

I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy reflective, emotional poetry about timing, connection, and unspoken feelings.

Ayesha Mohal’s Bitter Sip is a collection of modern poems about love, heartbreak, betrayal, and healing. The poems are written in a simple, conversational way, often sounding like diary entries or Instagram captions. It is a cup of comfort more than a spark of change, soothing the heart but rarely questioning the soul.

'Bitter Sip' by Ayesha Mohal is an intimate book.It feels like one is having a conversation with it.

It starts with the definition of Love and what is love in the true sense. How First love makes you feel. It talks about Heartbreak, Healing and courage. By the end of this book you feel motivated to face challenges in life. It makes you go through a rollercoaster of emotions.

The author has done a great job in conversing with the reader. This is the book that you will re-read again and again to feel motivated. This is the book to pick up when you feel down and you want someone to make you feel better.

There was emotional depth in each and every poetry. It was just flawless. I did like how there was mention of 'Rumi' a few times which made the experience of reading more enjoyable.

I did Read this book in one sitting and it made me emotional and changed my thought process in various matters. This book will have a positive effect in your life. I would highly recommend this book👍

A book of prose and poetry that explores the complex spectrum of love and pain to ultimate healing. The metaphor of heat and taste, like the initial comfort of a warm cup of tea to the first bitter sip of it that you love. For me this is the what drew me in to read this book. This is what love is like to us, isn't it? I don't think there is much better way to explain this. The author examines the destructive dynamics within relationships, touching on feelings related to betrayal, silence, and encounters with narcissism.

The book has three major sections.

•Warmth In The Cup

This part explores the definition of love. The duality of it. How it brings you utter comfort and joy one minute and then the next wrecks havoc in your life. How it makes you do things, gives you so much and doesn't hesitate to take it all away. How it's sometimes a miracle and sometimes a tragedy. And this love is not just romantic, but sometimes platonic. Sometimes from your family or friends. It's really up to the reader's interpretation and personal experience.

•When you are brewed in silence, and it burned your tongue

Following up by the previous part, this part explores how heartbreak isn't always romantic. It could just all be with a friend. And that's the one that stings more.

But not more than the one you experience from your family.

Yet, hurt by a partner, by someone you loved and cherished, leaves such an empty void in your life that no matter what you do or have, can't fill it. You miss the lies, the games, the version of the story you had in our head. You long to meet them again, just to part ways once again. You wonder, will they ever hurt the you did? Do you want them to? Maybe. Maybe not. Doesn't matter either ways.

•From the burn to bloom

The core of this chapter is, "The cup is empty, but you're not." Healing comes from acceptance. This reminded me of a quote from the good ol' Harry Potter series . "Understanding is the first step of acceptance."
The first road to the path of acceptance is 'detachment'. You detach yourself from what's not meant for you.

Another step is: Showing yourself the care you had shown for the one you loved.

Take back control of your life. Don't expect prince charming (Metaphorically), think about the little version of you who had so many big dreams!

Accept the divine timeline. Don't try to control it. You can't. Life gets to us all in different ways. Don't put a number on it.

☁This book has been a therapeutic read for me. I loved the first chapter. The second one isn't a perfect match for my taste but I LOVE the third and last chapter. This whole book felt like: Falling in love, going through the heartbreak, bouncing back from it to healing.

In the hush between heartbeats and breath, Bitter Sip pours itself into you like the first warm tea on a trembling morning—familiar, tremulous, with a taste both sharp and tender. It is not merely a book; it is an echo of all the quiet moments we’ve swallowed whole when love arrived like sunrise, and then departed like dusk.

In these pages, love is a flame that warms and burns. It is the cup held too close, the aroma of hope, the sting of absence. Each line is a ripple in the tea of experience—simple in language, yet deep in feeling—drawing you into a world where the heart learns to break and repair itself. The journey unfolds in three whispered stages: the warmth of first affection, the searing pain of parting, and the slow, gentle bloom of healing that rises like steam from cooled embers.

There is a sacred honesty here, a dialogue between reader and self. Mohal’s words are like embers, sometimes catching fire, sometimes softening into ash, but always illuminating that tender terrain where vulnerability and courage entwine. What makes this collection so luminous isn’t ornate metaphor, but its raw openness—its willingness to hold you in your own ache and make you feel seen.

To sip from this book is to remember that letting pain touch you is not a surrender, but a rite of passage. Bitter Sip teaches that some hurts don’t break us—they shape us, like clay warmed by fire, moulding resilience from sorrow and hope from ruin.

Bitter Sip is one of those slim, unassuming poetry collections that quietly settles into your chest—and then stays there.
True to its title, the poems feel like small sips of something hot and sharp.
What stands out is the simplicity of her language. The poems aren’t dressed up in excess metaphor; instead, they rely on emotional clarity. That makes the impact stronger. Many verses feel like thoughts you’ve had at 2 a.m. but never managed to articulate.

This book will resonate deeply with readers who enjoy: contemporary confessional poetry
themes of heartbreak, emotional endurance, and self-reflection.

Bitter Sip isn’t loud, but it’s brave. It reminds you that sometimes the most bitter experiences are the ones we swallow quietly—and grow from.
A poignant, relatable poetry collection that feels like a conversation with your own wounded, resilient heart. 💛

I recently finished Bitter Sip by Ayesha Mohal and honestly, it felt like such a personal read. The poems are really simple, but they carry a weight that hits you quietly. While reading, I kept thinking, “this is exactly how it feels” like she was putting into words emotions I’ve felt but never said out loud.

What I really liked was how the book doesn’t only talk about love in a dreamy way. It shows both the sweetness and the pain of it. And it’s not only about romantic heartbreak... there are pieces about friends, family and even the little ways society makes us feel small. That part really stayed with me because it’s so true to life.

For me, the last part of the book stood out the most. The poems slowly shift from pain to healing and learning to find yourself again. By the time I reached the end, it left me with a calm and hopeful feeling, almost like a gentle reminder that even if life breaks you, you can still grow back stronger.

The book felt very raw and real. It’s the kind of read you connect with easily. If you’ve ever loved, lost, or just wanted to feel less alone in what you’re going through, this book will stay with you.

In one sentence, a Rupi Kaur style pocket poetry with more narration and an arc progression through heartbreak and healing. Rather than dense poems, this one offers comfort. I felt like reading my own journal (but here with good poem and better writing, duh obviously). She has written this with her heart on her sleeve.

This collection is an intimate conversation that shows the excitement of new love to the slow work towards healing. It's modern, plain spoken and earnest. Ayesha Mohal's writing captures because they feel like something someone close to you might actually share.

The poems range from vulnerability to courage. The last part of the collection, "from burn to bloom" is my favourite, with the excerpt "Look back, Cinderella", being more relatable. All these said, few poems felt like pieces of advices, so for someone looking in a dense or linguistic pov, this may not hit the mark, though I personally liked it. The whole collection is so heartfelt. When nothing makes sense, writing about it does for me, and I felt like the book came from the same place.

Bitter Sip penned by Ayesha Mohal and it's published by Series of words. Ayesha has wisely penned all the poems in a simple yet direct manner with such honest and raw emotions that hit you right at the place. At places her tone sounds didactic.Bitter Sip is relatable, without making you bitter it depicts all the harsh bitterness of the reality, of love and of the loss. However her poems uplifts you not to become bitter despite having all the potential of becoming. Bitter Sip suggests resilience in the best possible way.

The poetry includes many emotional moments that really moved me. “The season of your memories never migrates.” The poems take you on a journey through heartache and healing. I found the words thought-provoking and profound. “The opposite of love is indifference.” Words that serve as reminders and introspection. “I step upon even the most broken boats when I truly care.” These lines felt especially true to me.

Thank you, Ayesha Mohal, for the opportunity to read these words.
