A Monarch's Fall

Rate this book
The kingdom is splintering, and every power is hungry for the same prize — Percy Flores.

Torn from Selene’s side and trapped in the power games of those who would use her, Percy uncovers the truth of her bloodline. But knowledge comes at a cost, and every secret makes her a target.

Meanwhile, Selene Borealis is being pushed toward the throne and away from the woman she would burn the world for. When betrayal strikes from every direction, even love becomes a battlefield, and their bond may be the very thing that destroys them.

War is coming. Crowns will fall.
And when the smoke clears, Selene must choose between the kingdom she was born to rule and the soul she cannot live without.

A Monarch’s Fall is a slow-burn dark romantic fantasy of power, peril, and desire—a story of witches, vampires, soul bonds, and what it means to choose love when the world demands anything but.

There simply isn't enough lesbian paranormal/fantasy romance fiction in the world. So, I write my own.

I'm a woman in my late 20's embracing my love of writing and story telling. I've only recently began to share my writing and published my first novel in April 2022.

I have been looking forward to this book for so long. I loved the first and second book, I loved it for the fun, spicy, touch-her-and-die, romantasy that it was. It had me really invested in Selene and Percy. But this series is sortof turning into high-angst, high-action fantasy with very little romance at all. I can’t really look past how inconistent the series is. I’m so sad about this. I wish I had just finished at the 2nd book.

Read this entirely way too fast knowing I have to give our amazing author time to write the next installment of Selene and Percy’s story.

Loved book four. Many questions answered and new questions leave you ready for book five. I enjoyed the different POVs and character development even for the secondary characters that make you want to punch them on Percy’s behalf. The shifting political landscapes of the Borealis Kingdom and the characters new and old leave you guessing who can be claimed as a friend and who should be labeled as an enemy to Selene and Percy.

As much as I understand why, I do wish we had seen more of our favorite couple in this book, but I think the slow burn is worth the wait.

Also, great job with the title. Like, seriously, deserves a pat on the back. When I read title, that is not how I imagined the “monarch’s fall” taking place and—wow.

All-in-all, A Monarch’s Fall was a really good addition to the series. With enemies coming from seemingly every direction, I’m both excited and concerned for what comes next in the series.

Self growth and friendships are the key points in this one. I loved getting more puzzle pieces and questions answered about Percy's history. I honestly would read an 800 page book in this world and it would still not be enough. As always I NEED MORE!!

thank you so much for the arc, I devoured in 24 hours ❤️

This isn't the first time I'm reviewing an ARC copy of a Soul Match Series book. I really do like this series, and it means so much to me that J. K. Jeffrey let me be part of her ARC team. Please be advised: this review may contain some light spoilers.

First of all, this is a solid sequel. If you've enjoyed the series so far, this one won't disappoint. In fact, I'd say this is the most page-turner‑like instalment since the first book. I genuinely couldn’t put it down. I'm not exaggerating. Stylistically, it might just be Jeffrey's strongest work yet.

A little about the story: Percy and Selene spend much of the book separated, which adds a layer of tension that aches throughout. It's a true test of their devotion, and even though I missed their playful, spicy interactions, watching them overcome hardship after hardship just to find their way back to each other was deeply rewarding. You feel how much they mean to each other. And yes, there may be less spicy content than in earlier books, but there is one very passionate, blush-worthy scene that absolutely delivers. 🫦

A few other highlights: When the first book came out, some reviews pointed out that the House system and the relationships between the nobles seemed somewhat inconsistent and hard to follow. That's definitely not the case anymore. By this point, the relationships between Houses are not only clear, but deliciously complex. The lore, especially since Book 3, has really matured, and Book 4 continues that beautifully. There are a few unexpected reveals here that deepen the world without feeling forced.

And something I personally appreciate: the side characters we've grown attached to aren't forgotten. It makes everything feel more alive.

A fair review must mention the drawbacks as well, but to be honest, I don't have much to say in this case. Well, I did wish Percy and Selene had more time together. But I also understand why the separation was necessary—it adds meaning to their reunion and moves the larger story forward. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger again, which I know some readers find frustrating, but it's the kind of cliffhanger that works.

By the way, the title, A Monarch's Fall, can be interpreted in several ways… but you won't know the true meaning until the very end. 👀

To sum up: I'm giving A Monarch’s Fall a full 5/5, and I'm already looking forward to the next chapter in the tale of our flower witch and vampire princess.

I forced myself to finish this book because of my love for the characters. The story only gets better when the main couple get back together at the end, and it doesn’t even last long. What was so good about the first two books was the relationship between them, and that was lost in the other books. I hope the next book has more moments of them together, but the way things are going, that probably won’t happen. Really disappointing.

I am such a fan of this series and was lucky enough to get to read this book as an ARC. I really love the world this author has created. Both a unique magic system and political system. In this book we get to learn so much more about Percy's family and the Flores coven, but not in a big boring info dump which is great. I truly wanted to reach into the book and slap Dylan for how condescendingly he treats Percy. There's only one small spicy scene because Percy and Selene are separated for most of the book. Literally no one wants Percy and Selene together, and even most of the people who know about the soul match think they couldn't possibly truly love each other, which is super sad, but honestly makes their love shine even brighter. We get to see a whole new side of Selene's father, the king, and that is not a good man. Did not see the ending coming, but was super happy about it. I can't wait for the next book!

Oh my goodness. I feel so spoiled that a second Soul Match book came out within a year. This book was so good and so upsetting at the same time like only a good book with characters you truly care about can be. I am disappointed that Percy is still so naive and innocent about certain things. Like it's ok for Selene to commit heinous acts in her name, but her or her friends snuffing out a truly reprehensible character will stain all of their souls forever. Ugh. Anyway, wish there was more time with the two of them together, majority of the book has them separated. Really could have used more kinky and spicy scenes too. Now all I can think about is how long will I have to wait for the next book. This has quickly become one of my favorite series of all time. I love how awesome and terrible everyone is and I just want to watch Selene burn the whole world down for Percy.

Arg! I have absolutely love this series so far and this latest instalment has left me gagging for more!

Selene and Percy’s have once again been separated and J.K Jeffery has once again given us an action packed story full of just about everything a woman could want. I’m not going to lie I had to out the book Dow a couple of times because the tension was just too much. However it was in the best of ways where I couldn’t wait to pick it up again! If you’ve started this series and got this far you’ll need no encouragement to read this. If you’ve started are new go back to the start. Trust me you will love it!.

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!! Also, I need Percy to fully grow a back bone and stop falling into herself and imploding. I get she has not had any time at all really to process any trauma but baby girl, I need you to be ruthless. In many moments she is but damn, I was literally yelling at the pages for her to pull her head out her ass and tell Selene what happened to formulate a plan. Thank God for Heidi, cuz I was fully close to losing my shit. Great series so far, cant wait to see what happens next.

Ish just got…

real!! We start this part of the story with fall of the House of Arden’s falling. This fall has separated Selene and Percy with each looking for and trying to Mae it back to the other. And this begins the painful separation of the two soul matched individuals.

Percy finds herself kidnapped by some old friends and enemies. During this time she learns just who are foe, family, and friends. This is part of a much needed emotional and mental growth. She needs to know and understand who she is now, her past, and her true lineage. This new knowledge and understanding comes at a hefty price. But what she does learn and is revealed to her is the true depth of the “soul match” and all that it enlightens and entails. When faced with life and or death, she realizes the inherent value of what that match is and what one would do for it.

We’ve seen Selene fall in love with her pet even when she didn’t want to. We saw the gradual build and pull of that one of a kind soul match and just the plain unadulterated truth of the linkage. When she first met Percy she was so furious and the treatment of her was so base. That soul match would reveal her greatest challenges and the sharing of never ending joy that she never thought possible. This bond has Selene challenging anything and anyone that comes up against that bond that is binding with Percy.

These last three books shows Selene’s transformation from cold and icy to protective, steadfast and fierce since Percy entered her life. Selene’s love for Percy manifests itself in equal parts love, tenderness, protectiveness, obsession and possession. And she will love and keep Percy, even if Percy herself doesn’t want it. And this soul match has her acting just as she is supposed to when it comes to Percy. She has to also save Percy from herself. She’s such a gentle soul that she can easily be carried away with the pressures and opinions of others. Especially in the first 3 books. In this one, Percy remains true to herself, accepting of who she is, and the prices that must be made when being the soul match of a Royal Princess.

Selene’s love for Percy is true and tangible. Her love is shown in action and bravery. And she has loved and protected Percy not
Knowing who she is nor her true history.

I hope that the next book is on the way. I should have waited to read this one so I could read them one after the other. This book ends with the only thing possible that could ensure her Percy was safe (safe enough for now) and they could be together without hiding their love connection without revealing the soul match.

I know we’re not finished with the New Foundation. They will have to deal with Lady Persephone Flores, Dylan, Ana, Valen, Arvid and everyone else that threatens this soul match and then finding and being happy together.

First I’ll like to say I love the series and Percy and Selene. I do fully intend to read until the end with the final and last book five when it comes out. With the main problem I have with book four. The not enough scene between Percy and Selene as I wish we just could have more of them together. I also this it’s finally time to get the elephant in the room out of the way and tell the public that Percy is Selene soul match. It gets tiring having people close to Selene only think of Percy as a blood slave or pet. The last home stretch of this book is where they met again and personally think book four definitely could have been much longer of a book with everything going on. Otherwise it had a lot of action and answered some questions that needed to be answered for Percy. I do think she was being a little to naïve in this book compared to what she was in the first two books but there was definitely growth for her. Otherwise I enjoyed the friendships, heated moments with Percy ideals, lot of death this book. I don’t think it was bad but I hope the romance will be more in focus the last book. Though it’s understandable as many did not want Selene and Percy together. It was sad to see how negative some of the characters are with the soul bond they share. It’s a beautiful thing that I hope we get to fully explore and see them embrace.

I did enjoy the read and am looking forward to the to the last and final book to see how Percy and Selene story ends. I also wonder if Percy and Selene would ever adopt one of the kids that don’t have a family to go back to.

I’m leaving 5 stars because I’m obsessed w/ these characters and the world the author has built. This is for sure my forever guilty pleasure series that I WILL ride or die for. This is not the epitome of fine literature and that is okay and dare I say, Amazing 🤩.

Percy and Selene’s kinda d/s dynamic is literally everything to me and I honestly just find it extremely hot. This book was more focused on the plot of it all (sad face) but answered a lot of questions in a satisfying enough way. I think it’s built a good set-up for the next book/conclusion! Though I will actually feel so empty knowing there won’t be any more of the series to look forward to when it’s all finished.

Like others have said, I sped through this and am a lil sad we didn’t get to see that many scenes of our favorite couple together (but i understand why)!!! That said, I’m gonna need A LOT of Percy and Selene next book. Their dialogue and power play is always wayyy tooooo good. Looking forward to seeing Selene administer those “corrections” next book 😭🤘

The fourth book in The Soul Match series was absolutely phenomenal. The plot in this installment is intense in the best way—the book starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger one. This time around, we get perspectives from so many different characters, which adds incredible depth and keeps the story constantly moving. One of my favorite parts was how deeply we dive into Percy’s background—we learn more about her lineage and uncover details about her mother’s magic, which adds so much emotion and depth to the story and makes everything feel even more meaningful. The build-up was worth every second, and the spice at the end definitely delivered. The twists and turns J.K. takes us through were completely mind-blowing and kept me hooked from start to finish. This series is one of my all-time favorites, and this book did not disappoint in the slightest. I am already counting down the days until book five—I’ll be holding my breath until it arrives.

Every chapter builds such anticipation for the next installment that it is impossible to ignore the release of the next book. It’s almost as if the reader is compelled by unseen forces to see what happens next. You do not want to miss this upheaval.

“Evil finds its home in desperation,” and there’s nothing more desperate than a King losing his kingdom… though there’s nothing more dangerous than a separated and hungry, soul match.

“Life is dangerous. But life with you is a death sentence.” Mic. Drop.

The journey these two MC’s are on is fraught with scheming family, ill defined friendships, morally repugnant framily, and a world scorching love that is setting the kingdom on fire.

Let me just go get some marshmallows because I am here for every petty squabble, passionate drinking session, bratty behavior correction, verbal humiliation, and a soul match that will end the tides.

I truly can’t get enough of this series! In book 4, the stakes are high and characters are being forced to confront the cost of their choices.

This book feels different from the previous three because our main characters do spend more time apart than ever before, but it’s just as compelling. We interact more with other characters and get deeper development. The world feels more open beyond Selene and Percy’s relationship. It’s immersive. Their world seems to imploding and there are enemies surrounding them on all sides. We get answers to questions from book 3. And even more anticipation for how the rest of their journey will unfold.

This series is dangerous, delicious, and completely addictive. I can’t wait for the next installment. I never want their story to end! I would definitely recommend.

Loved learning more about Percy’s background and the central role she will play in the unfolding story. I’m in awe of how the author manages to keep the story fast paced and entertaining throughout all the books creating a world that is so complex and characters you get so attached to even though you shouldn’t. I also loved the cliffhanger ending, thanks author for always keeping us on our toes. I absolutely need book 5 like right now… I missed having Percy and Selene together so I devoured the story in less than a day only for the book to end like almost immediately after their reunion, I’m absolutely devastated.

Book 4 had me more invested in the story, as a whole, than the others. The action and story-telling makes up for the lack of spice. I really enjoyed the first 75% of the book.

I honestly felt like the spicy breadcrumbs thrown at us towards the end was weird but I feel the same about everything that happened in the last 100 pages. Percy wised-up while in captivity and you’re proud of her development. Then she kind of lets you down after she escapes.

I would love to see a more intricate plan from Selene and Percy. No one should be outsmarting them. I wouldn’t mind waiting two years for a much longer book to wrap this up.

Such an awesome read my only sadness is having to wait for what comes next. This has become one of my favorite sapphic fantasy stories. Percy and Selene’s journey deepens as we learn more about Percy’s past, meet her family, and witness her fully stepping into her power. Percy is fearless, powerful, and never backs down from a fight. The story ends on a gripping cliffhanger, setting the stage for a much-anticipated shift in leadership and the future of the monarchy and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The book was great—the story and the plot were amazing. What I really disliked was how some of the protagonist’s changes didn’t make sense to me. There were also too many POVs for my taste.

There wasn’t much smut (which wasn’t really an issue), but overall it just wasn’t what I expected. That said, I’d still recommend continuing the series because it’s a great addition. I’m looking forward to the next one.

This is one of my favourites story. I love it, the growth of Percy's character and their relationship overall, Ana and Percy's friendship as well as Heidi and Selene's. Though Kat was a minor character, I still felt bad for her. Overall my emotions moved with characters very well. Can't wait for more.

Thank you for an arc

PS:- Would love to have Heidi's story too🥹🥹

😳 Whoa! This was a truly exceptional installment. I've been a dedicated fan of this series since its debut in 2022. Now, three years later, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the continuation of Selena and Percy's story, and the release was definitely worth the wait. From the very beginning, the book offers a rollercoaster of powerful emotional moments that pull you in deeply. A Fall of a Monarch introduces several new characters, as well as some familiar faces .J.K. Jeffery skillfully expands the rich world of the Borealis Kingdom, revealing intricate layers of drama, betrayal, lies, and long-hidden secrets. We discover the true origins of Percy‘s mother’s mysterious family and her hidden coven, as well as uncover the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of the Flores Witches' disappearance. A Fall of a Monarch by J.K. Jeffery is a compelling page-turner packed with vivid details and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/🌶️

I absolutely loved this book. I’ve been looking forward to this book for a while. While not as spicy as the past three in the series, it’s packed with a ton of information that’s important to the whole story. When I read these books, it’s like a movie playing in my head(it’s pretty cool), so this just adds to that when you read them from the beginning to now.
