With their time in Majorica at an end, Sora’s party continues their quest to find the missing elf Eris. Their next stop is the Lufre Dragonlands, an isolated nation across the mountains. Their journey won’t be simple, though—as they prepare to cross the treacherous mountain peak on foot, they begin to see the first signs of a strange curse affecting the land and its creatures. Later, they must earn entry into the isolated capital city of Altair by vanquishing a group of bandits who have eluded even the realm’s most elite knight corps. The threat they encounter on the way could endanger the life of Sora’s loyal spirit companion, Ciel!
Traveling to and through the Dragonlands comes with its own problems. Access to the capital is restricted and that is where they are most likely to find escaped slaves, and then there are the odd patches of corruption and human bandits infused with a forbidden slave crest. Sora and friends might want to keep away from plotting kingdoms, but fate has other plans. What follows is a fairly typical volume for the series and the genre, an entertaining read with interesting characters, but nothing ground breaking. I enjoy it, but it comes with many of the familiar tropes although not to the extent that it becomes problematic, although none that are truly grating (no ecchi, no harem fighting, things are not a complete breeze, and so on). Makes for a fun popcorn read.
