“I’m here for your hand, my Lady. Even if I have to duel the whole Ton.”
Lady Caroline is being auctioned… Like some sort of animal! But she won’t give in without a fight. When the Devil of the Ton joins, she tries to chase him away. Only... he’s amused by her antics. Now she's caught his attention. And since villains like him never lose...he claims her. *** Freshly returned from war, beastly Duke Richard must produce an heir. But first, he must tame his wife-to-be... And he'd enjoy tasting her surrender. Until she asks for five dates before their wedding. Well... No one says 'No' to the Devil's bride. Not even the Devil himself. He just prays his control doesn't snap... For he'll break her. And she'll be begging for more.

I enjoyed the story of Duke Richard and Lady Caroline's relationship. They were both very stubborn, quick-witted and determined but that meant the conversations they had were fiery and interesting. Caroline's father wanted her to marry to help the family's reputation. Caroline did not want to marry because she was frightened that she would die in childbirth, like her mother. Richard wanted to marry for an heir and also to enhance his reputation. Years earlier, he had been press-ganged into the navy and badly scarred in the war. Who would arrange for a Duke to be press-ganged? Who ruined Richard's reputation and caused him to be known as the Devil? Would Caroline be able to soften Richard's attitude enough for them to have a happy marriage? Read on and enjoy.
Liked the storyline but again could not get the extended epilogue. Although not required for this review I still find it lessens the enjoyment of the book. I like the authors exploration of the characters, both Caroline and Richard have fears to fight and either accept or overcome. We also have the ‘villain’ revealing himself at a crucial point. It did take me a few chapters to become engrossed but I got there as I’m sure will other readers. Very well written and recommended to anyone who enjoys regency steamy romance
Caroline is the only remaining daughter of a man who believes marriages are for the benefit of the family and sought to set up the best Alliance. Richard is a duke returned from the dead with the thought of setting up the future. He hears of the daughter and seeks her out. The story is one of love, redemption and second chances. Some scenes jump unexpectedly, but not too many. I do feel the ending could have been a bit shorter without losing the story. Loved TBE characters and understood the fear the author wanted to convey. Enjoy!
Sally Vixen’s regency novels are believable, a feisty heroine and a scarred Duke. Together they overcome all obstacles and evil plots. Caroline is a lady who deliberately foils her suitors at every turn. Richard, regarded The Devil of the Ton, claims her for wife bride. Caroline is intrigued by the Duke and his scarred face that scares the ton. He listens to what she says and she can see past the war damaged Duke’s face. This is their story, love, hate, fear and courage and the battles they must overcome. A great read.

Wonderful story from the first page to the last. Richard and a Caroline are both dominant adults who clause at every meeting. Richard cane home from war with many problems of fear. Caroline also had a fear of marriage and child bearing as her mother due giving birth to her. They are both two pieces if a pie that make each other whole. They get their HEA and so much more. Highly recommend this book and author as you will not be disappointed. Happy reading!🙂
Sally Vixen has written a beautiful story about a wonderful couple. I was enchanted by the heroine and mesmerized by the hero. The special descriptions and dialogue made the story so heartfelt. This is the best book written by the author, so far. I look forward to reading more books by this author. This is a fair and honest ARC review. It was my pleasure to be asked to read such a great book. I highly recommend.
The Duke, Richard, returns home after missing in the war, to wed & Begin life again. But Lady Caroline sets down 5 rules he must follow before marriage. But events are amiss as he finds out who was behind his attack in the war. With many secrets of his own & Lady Caroline with her own secrets & fears much must become clear but before that there’s a bigger secret set to try to destroy him. A great read-exciting & impossible to stop reading!!
Betrayal is hard to forgive but betrayal by a family member is almost impossible.
Once in a while a book is written so well that the reader feels as though they are part of the story. That is how I felt while reading this story of envy, betrayal, pain and love shown through the emotions of the injured and the loved. This book is definitely worth reading.
Richard has been to war not by his choice and Caroline has been raised to fear childbirth and to be sold off by her father see how these two over come their fears to find love
Signs of a true story teller. The story of betrayal, anger and hate transcending into something much more. Mercy, strength, and love taking this story to it's true vision. Don't miss this one, Sally Vixen brings you a page turner, one you won't want to miss.
His Auctioned Duchess was such an endearing story I hated to see it end. Sally Vixen truly created a beautiful heartfelt romance. Be sure to enjoy this latest Regency novel as it will warm your heart!
This was an excellent story of Caroline's determination to do what she can with what she was dealt with. Richard's gruff and lack of feeling gives her a quest to unravel. The answer was not what I expected. Loved it.
I loved this story so much. Caroline, so afraid to give up her freedom, and Richard, so alone and angry at what happened to him. But slowly together they found their happiness.
The daughter of an Earl must overcome her fear of death in childbirth. The Duke must overcome the violence that has been done to him and his fear of showing weakness.
Love Richard's and Caroline's story! He was determined to keep his distance. She needed to be chosen instead of traded. Together they both discover they could have so.much more. Hugely Recommended!!!!
Very good and interesting story and dont want to stop reading. It contains a lot of humor and the way the hero and the heroine dance around each other it makes the story more captivating
I found it’s boring. Too many unneeded comparisons that did not have to be there. Half the time I skipped a lot. The plot was good but too many Flights of fantasy.
Book 1 of the new Regency Auctioned Brides series. Lady Caroline Hughes is the remaining unmarried daughter of her single parent father. Her father, the Marquess of Fernsby, is aging and worried that his daughter needs to be married so someone will look after her once he passes. So her father is trying to arrange an auction to basically sell her off to the highest bidder and invites many gentlemen to a dinner. She is furious, as was I as the reader, tries to stand up for herself and resist her father’s plans. Richard, the Duke of Ashwood aka the Devil of the Ton, has returned emotionally and physically scarred after being at war and left for dead. His mother and cousins had assumed he had died and are startled but seemingly delighted at his return. Richard was raised to be a future Duke and duty has been drilled into him. Richard decides to seek a wife to fulfil his duty to provide an heir. At his mother’s suggestion he attends the Fernsby house to meet Caroline. Once the Devil Duke sets his mind on something, he gets what he wants. And Richard encounters Caroline and is fascinated by her tenacity, courage and her apparent lack of fear towards him - when most of society cowers in his presence. Richard is then invited to ‘the dinner’ and is set up to compete against others. However Richard is just himself, fearless, confident and forthright. Caroline does not back down and agrees (which is strange for the time setting) for a series of 5 ‘dates’ before she decides to accept his proposal. And goes to stay at Richard’s estate for 5 weeks with her brother John as her chaperone. So essentially, this is the story of Richard and Caroline getting to know each other, encountering resistance and past trauma, feelings developing, and the realisation of these emotions generating fear for them both but in different ways. A wedding is organised but it is not as expected and there is an enormous curveball which I will not spoil by sharing (but well done to the author for that). Will Caroline and Richard admit to themselves their true feelings? Will they be able to share with each how they feel? Will they find a way past this enormous curveball to their happy ending? How many hurdles will be put in their way? I really appreciate that this author provides extended prequels and epilogues and recommend you read them. I have read a lot by this author and enjoy her work. However this story had lots of little inconsistencies eg sitting in one sentence, standing the next; a candle, then a lamp - which was a bit frustrating and editing should have prevented. But the author writes characters with emotional baggage well and slowly allows them to grow into something more. Caroline’s fear is legitimate and Richard handles it with tenderness and respect. I enjoyed some of the supporting roles - especially Richard’s cousin Sophia and Caroline’s brother John. Although Caroline’s father was frustrating - caring one minute then auctioning her off the next - but no-one ever said that humans were simple. Although I enjoyed the heart of the story with the main characters, this is not my favourite work by this author. But I will continue to read her work!
I generously received an ARC from the author and freely offer this review.
