✨Maybe that’s just how grief operates. Maybe you don’t ever get past it, but rather, you absorb it. Make it part of who you are✨

What to expect -
🌊Fast-paced survival thriller
🌊Girls’ trip gone wrong
🌊Secluded island setting
🌊Short chapters
🌊Grief and loss of a loved one
🌊Dark pasts and secrets
🌊Strong bond between women

This was such a short and fast-paced read that had me constantly turning the pages. Courtney has recently lost her husband, and when her sister-in-law and best friend ask her to join them on a girls’ trip, she agrees reluctantly because it was her husband’s last wish. What she doesn’t expect is for this trip to completely turn her life upside down and leave her fighting for survival.

The first half had me screaming at these women for all the dumb decisions they were making 😭 Like, after seeing all the red flags this trip was throwing out from the very beginning, I would’ve turned back on that same boat immediately. But what do these women do instead?! They make excuses for every warning sign and willingly move onto the private island🙂↔️

But once things started getting dangerous in the second half, that’s when the book truly gripped me and refused to let go till the end. So many secrets were revealed, and seeing everyone’s true personalities slowly come out in the open made this such a thrilling read.

The only things I didn’t like were the men in this book and Tori’s obsession with astrology. Every time the women brought up something genuinely alarming, the men would immediately brush it off and act like the girls were just being paranoid for no reason. And the douchebag Tori brings to the island?? He was so judgmental and annoying that I completely understood why the other women kept saying she had terrible taste in men😭

As for Tori herself, she’s actually quite a complex character with a difficult past. She’s found comfort in astrology, and whenever things spiral out of control or she feels a panic attack coming on, she tries grounding herself through astrological facts. That, I could understand. But when she started analyzing every single person based on their rising signs and personality charts, it genuinely started annoying the shit out of me🥲

Other than that, I genuinely enjoyed this one. I loved seeing the women overcome the tension between themselves and stand by one another even when it meant putting themselves in danger. And Courtney slowly finding her spark again, learning to live with her grief, and choosing to hold onto the beautiful memories while continuing to make new ones was honestly so moving by the end.

Overall, if you want a quick thriller with female characters making questionable choices, getting themselves into dangerous situations, and fighting hard to survive, you definitely have to pick this one up.

✨Pre-read:
Secluded island and girls' trip gone wrong?! Hell yeah🤭😍

"But the truth is, you can't control when the waves of grief decide to pummel you. They're in charge. Always."

This is a twisty little delight that will keep you guessing! Four women go on an island vacation to help one of them grieve the death of her husband, but when they arrive, it's not the peaceful getaway they expected. Between rumors of a woman recently killed, the missing house manager in charge of food supplies, and one of the friends bringing her new boyfriend, tensions are high—and then one of them vanishes.

With rotating POVs of the women, an isolated atmosphere, and plenty of hidden motivations and secrets, the pace and tension never let up! Each woman is vastly different with a distinct, fleshed-out personality, making their dynamics more compelling. All the conflict, drama, and danger are superbly brought to life for the audiobook by narrators: RACHEL FRANCO, DEVA MARIE GREGORY, JENNIFER McCOOL, and ABIGAIL RENO. I highly recommend this exciting, evocative listen!

Yes, this is a fabulous destination beach-read, yet STEPH NELSON also touches on deep themes of terminal illness, grief (written so accurately I teared up), and trauma, with a strong focus on female friendship. You'll need to hang on tight for twists and turns—many of which took me by surprise—that are grounded perfectly into the layered plot, with a riveting, action-packed ending. Readers who love a fun, gripping, suspicion-laden read with heart won't want to miss DON'T ASK WHY!

They’re grieving and need a girls trip. It’s just what they need. Laughs, drinks, good times.

But ohhhh this trip goes sideways real quick when one of the girls goes missing and nothing is going as planned.

I loved this one. The three characters and each of their personalities really showed here. How they interact to the same situation in such difference ways, was something that kept coming to my mind. We don’t always get this much character building in a 200-250 page thriller - while not losing any of the thrills.

That’s one reason Nelson will forever be one of my favorites. The story starts kind of slowly - suspense wise - but the emotional building is brutal and necessary. You will feel this one to your soul.

🎧: Full cast you just have to listen to this one. Fabulous listen. Followed along while listening and the narrators bring this book to life in a whole other way.

Also loved the little special dropping we got of the author’s real life and the birth signs and other thriller books.

What a fun book. Grief, survival, friendship, twists - this one has it all.

Final Thoughts:
Oh, well at least you knew it was coming - I cannot say this enough: NOTHING can prepare you for what it’ll actually be like. How it’ll actually feel. And there’s a flip side of that coin because it’s much worse having to watch them dying in front of you for years or months, with no means to help them. You’re helpless. THERE IS NO COMFORT JUST BC WE KNEW IT WAS COMING. NONE. (Not to the author - she just hits on this topic.)

Until next time…

I received an ALC of this audiobook through libro.fm in exchange for an honest review.

Picking up a new mystery can be like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get. Steph Nelson is a new author to me, so I wasn't sure what kind of read this was going to be. However, I've recently read quite a few new mysteries that wound up being over the top, so I went into this with somewhat reasonable expectations, in my opinion.

This wound up being a good way to pass some free time, with the perfect setting to convey a claustrophobic, impending-doom-type location, on an isolated island in the Florida Keys with no one coming in or out. We are introduced to the four characters in the friend group who are going on this vacation because one of the friends was recently widowed, and her deceased husband planned this trip. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to differentiate between the four women, who have extremely similar inner monologues and patterns of behavior. The audiobook is narrated by a full cast of four narrators: Rachael Franco, Deva Marie Gregory, Jennifer McCool, and Abigail Reno, which should have made it a lot easier to figure out who was who, except that each of the narrators sounded so much alike that I was really only able to identify two voices, since they honestly all sounded the same, both voice and tone of their inner thoughts.

The plot starts out slowly, and sets the scene for a locked-room thriller on an island with no way on or off. The setting itself felt almost like another character, and I was enjoying it as the characters get settled in, only to discover something isn't right. The middle part of the story picks up quite a bit, although it has some predictable twists and turns early on. That changes quickly, with some completely unexpected plot twists, and occasionally veering into over-the-top-ness, but I was still along for the ride.

Overall, this was one of those thrillers that a fellow blogger calls 'popcorn books' because they require a little more suspense of disbelief than others, and don't feel as realistic. Going into the read expecting a popcorn thriller made a big difference for me, and I was able to adjust my expectations. Ultimately, it was one of those reads that is enjoying while you're reading, but afterwards you can't remember anything about it.

This was SO much fun! I love a fast paced, tense popcorn thriller and this was literally perfect! I loved all the different twists, the multiple POVs and the juicy secrets sprinkled throughout. This is a perfect book to throw into your beach bag and get lost for a bit.

I’ve read all of Nelson’s work and each one is slightly different, which shows her diversity, creativity and style. One thing she does so well is her depiction of grief. It’s always accurate and handled with care.

Grab this and take a staycation for a bit!

another thriller that is easy to read and hard to put down! I enjoyed that I didn't have to think too hard while reading this one - I just got to jump into the story. there were a few times where the book slowed down but read a few pages and it picked back up.

Four friends who see every red flag and wave right back head off on a vacation and promptly abandon all sense of self-preservation.

At a certain point, the characters are so committed to making bad decisions that you start thinking… maybe survival isn’t for everyone.

There are flashes of intrigue and that “wait, what’s happening?” energy… but the astrology subplot goes on forever and totally distracts you from the tension of the story.

At this point I may need to retire believability as a standard for books, because apparently we’re just doing whatever now.

I did have the chance to meet the author (she is so warm and personable), which makes me want to like this more… but this one just didn’t land for me the way I’d hoped.

Not my favorite of Nelson’s books. Still loved meeting her… if we run into each other again, I’ll pretend I was hacked.

After the loss of her husband, Courtney decides she needs a break from everything life has thrown at her. So when the opportunity comes up for a girls’ weekend away on a private island, she takes it. But what’s supposed to be a relaxing escape quickly turns into something far darker.
First, there’s the unsettling story of a girl who was murdered on the island years ago. Then the housing manager is nowhere to be found. And before long… Courtney vanishes.
With no way to leave the island and no way to contact the outside world, her friends realise they’re completely cut off. Determined to find Courtney, they start digging for answers, but it soon becomes clear that someone on this island is hiding something. And they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure no one leaves.

Let’s start with the negatives. None of the characters were particularly likeable. They all had tragic backstories that connected them in more ways than one, but I never really found myself rooting for any of them. The constant astrology references also started to feel a little repetitive and slightly grated on me after a while.
That said, the story itself was definitely engaging. It’s a fast-paced thriller that kept me guessing as the mystery slowly unfolded, and I found myself trying to piece together what was really happening on the island and who might be behind it all.
Overall, this was a solid, entertaining thriller with an eerie isolated-island setting and plenty of twists along the way.

BLURB:
Courtney Gray, recently widowed, joins her friends Paige, Reese, and Tori on a secluded island in the Florida Keys for a short getaway. The trip quickly turns tense when rumors of a past murder surface, the property manager disappears, and one of the women goes missing.

REVIEW:
If you haven’t read Steph Nelson’s thrillers before, this book is the perfect place to start and shows off what she does best. It’s now my second favorite book of hers, only behind Last One Out—an absolute must-read! This book is a fast-paced, multi-POV psychological thriller that barely gives you a minute to breathe! The story has great tropes woven in—an isolated location, a group cut off from the outside world, a missing person mystery, and a race-against-time narrative. There’s also lots of emotional depth through its main themes of grief, fractured female friendships, and betrayal.

The book opens with a gripping prologue set a year earlier that creates unease before the main timeline starts. From there, the story follows a single present-day timeline via the POVs of Courtney, Paige, Reese, and Tori. The dynamic between Paige and Tori immediately has friction and makes you wonder what secrets both women are hiding. Courtney’s grief is the emotional core of the story—the details of the loss of her husband are slowly revealed, and her reflections on their final moments together are some of the most emotional scenes in the book.

As things start going wrong, all four women begin to look suspicious. Once one of them goes missing, you’ll be second-guessing everything as their group dynamic constantly shifts. The male characters—Rawson and Leslie—are both unlikable and questionable from the start, so predicting who the real villain is isn’t easy in this one!

The best elements of this book are the consistency in intensity and pacing. From beginning to end, the story is always moving forward with constant tension—either from uncomfortable dialogue or action scenes—and there aren’t really any repetitive inner monologues or unnecessary scenes, which is SO refreshing! The second half is very unpredictable, with twists that even experienced thriller readers will find hard to predict. At times, you‘ll feel like there are loopholes in the plot or details that aren’t fully explained, but Nelson does a great job of circling back and resolving all of them by the end, showing a very well-laid-out plot! The final chapters include a high-stakes climax followed by a satisfying resolution—and you’ll be wanting to pick up another Steph Nelson thriller very soon!

I loved Steph Nelson’s other book, Last One Out and was so excited to receive an ARC for her new book. Unfortunately, this one didn’t work for me. I found the cast of characters to be sad and unlikeable each one with their own tragic backstory. The astrology part was fun but became too repetitive. There were references to drug abuse, addiction, and foster care abuse. In the author’s defense there were trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, just wish I saw them before I requested.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I received this as an ARC and couldn’t be more grateful. From the very first chapters, I was completely hooked. With multiple POVs and several twisty plotlines weaving together, it made for such a fun and addictive reading experience.

The only reason this didn’t quite land at five stars for me is that one element tied to a main character felt a little too hyper-focused at times. It popped up so often that it occasionally pulled me out of the story and started to drive me a bit bonkers. Think Freida McFadden’s book the coworker and the obsession with turtles… if you know, you know.

That small gripe aside, this was still a really enjoyable read and one I’d happily recommend to any thriller lover looking for a fast-paced, twist-filled story. Definitely worth picking up!!

Thank you to Victory Editing and NetGalley for this advanced copy. This is a solid and enjoyable holiday read or weekend binge. It has a fantastic premise and the very first chapter hooks you in.

At times some of the dialogue felt unnecessary and wasn’t moving the story forward. I did find Tori getting on my nerves with her starsign talk. But overall the characters all had very distinct voices and personalities. I loved Paige and Courtney.

I felt this started strongly and became less of a thriller and more of a mystery/action/drama which was still very enjoyable but not what I expected.

Oh this one was fun!

I’ve always loved thrillers that take place at a resort, or on an island, anything like that. And I’ve also recently decided that I enjoy survival thrillers. I’m fully aware I have no survival skills and would be the first to die in any of these books, but enjoy them all the same.

Don’t Ask Why comes out March 12th, and is th perfect fast paced read. Courtney, a recent widow, takes a weekend to get away with friends and mourn her husband in an environment he chose for her. But is it a little bit too deserted? And can she trust everyone there?

I Escaped My Fantasy Hangover and Immediately Got Stranded on an Island (10/10 Would Panic Again) 🏝️😳🚩

Listen. I was deep in a Briar Boleyn fantasy hangover. Swords. ⚔️ Angst. 😩 Emotional devastation. 💔 The works. And then Steph Nelson said, “Oh, you think you’re safe? Let’s strand you on a secluded island with no Wi-Fi and a recent murder.” Bravo, ma’am. Truly. 👏🔥

So what’s it about? 👀

We’re following four women — and yes, multiple POV — but don’t panic because Steph handles it beautifully. Courtney – recently widowed, still shattered after losing the love of her life, Bryce. 🕊️ Paige – Bryce’s sister and the powerhouse founder of a multimillion-dollar dating app, SoulMatch. 📱 Tori – best friend energy, tarot-loving, zodiac-reading, twin-flame-believing queen who lost her husband in the line of duty and is still trying to make sense of it all. 🔮✨ Reese – ex-military turned nurse who cared for Bryce during his final year. 🩺

The prologue? Immediate chills. 🥶 A woman walking on a beach while on vacation feels like she’s being followed. It’s heavily implied she’s being stalked — and that he will always find her. 👣 The scene cuts. We fast-forward years. And just like that, we’re on a secluded island in the Florida Keys. 🌴🌊

What’s supposed to be a healing girls’ trip turns into: A rumor about a murdered woman. 🩸 A missing property manager. ❓ A stranger showing up at the rental. 👤 One friend disappearing. 🏃‍♀️💨 No Wi-Fi. 📵 No cell service. No way off the island for four days. FOUR. DAYS. Absolutely not. 🙅‍♀️

The Execution? Chef’s Kiss. 🤌💋

Multiple POV thrillers are hard. Like, really hard. Especially when every single character is hiding secrets. 🤫 Steph Nelson pulled this off with control and confidence. Every perspective mattered. Every secret had purpose. Nothing felt thrown in for shock value. And when the reveals came? They landed. 🎯 Everything tied together in a way that felt intentional and satisfying. Not messy. Not rushed. Just sharp. 🔪 Also — the little nod to Noelle W. Ihli and references to Run on Red and Gray After Dark? As a thriller girlie who adores those books, I LOVED that moment. 🫶📖

Final Thoughts 🌟

After five-star reviewing Last One Out, I knew Steph Nelson was one to watch. After Don’t Ask Why? She’s officially auto-read status. 👑 This was fast-paced, tense, emotionally layered, and executed with precision. Exactly what I needed to snap me out of a fantasy spiral and remind me why I love thrillers so much. 🖤

If you like: Isolated settings 🏝️ Friend groups with secrets 👯‍♀️ Mounting dread 😰 “Wait… WHAT?” reveals 🤯 Add this to your list. Immediately. 🏃‍♀️💨

Deep Review: Don't Ask Why by Steph Nelson
Masterful Narrative & Realism
Steph Nelson has a rare talent for crafting stories that grip you from the very first sentence of the prologue and don't let go until the final word of the epilogue. What stands out most in Don't Ask Why is the authenticity of the characters. They don't feel like "fictional tropes"; they feel like real people. Their flaws, their voices, and even their mistakes make them incredibly relatable, which only heightens the stakes as the story unfolds.
The "Red Flag" Factor
From the opening chapters, the atmosphere is heavy with red flags. Nelson expertly portrays the "poor decision-making" that we often see in real life but dread in a thriller. There is a specific confession when the characters reach the island destination that is so chilling, I personally would have turned around and gone straight home! However, the author’s ability to keep the reader guessing—and staying—is what makes this a page-turner.
A Test of Friendship: Who Can You Trust?
The core of this book asks a haunting question: How much can I really trust my friends? * The Mystery: Trying to identify the villain is a psychological game.
The Suspense: Nelson leads you down one path only to shift the ground beneath your feet.
The Climax: It is raw, brutal, and physically paralyzing. The way everything concludes left me stunned and breathless.
The "Noelle W. Ihili" Connection
As a huge fan of Noelle W. Ihili, finding references to her work within these pages was a brilliant touch. It adds a layer of community and shared universe that makes the reading experience feel personal and rewarding.
Final Verdict & Lingering Questions
The ending left me fully satisfied but with a heavy philosophical question: Would you ever truly be able to go on a vacation again after experiencing such a traumatic trip? Rating: 5/5 Stars ★★★★★
Atmosphere: Deeply unsettling and tense.
Pacing: Flawless from start to finish.
Recommendation: A must-read for anyone who loves psychological thrillers that feel uncomfortably real.
Amazing job, Steph Nelson! Keep these captivating stories coming.
A big hug from your fan, Christian from Wisconsin.

Courtney is with her three best friends in the Florida Keys following the death of her husband, on a trip he planned while he was sick, knowing she would need a getaway to help her heal after losing him. But immediately upon arrival, the women begin noticing that things aren’t right. Trusting their instincts and keeping a lookout for anything suspicious, the women begin trying to enjoy their tropical vacation, but there are more red flags, and soon this paradise turns into their worst nightmare. And along the way, the group must reveal some of its darkest secrets in order to survive.

This book is told from the POVs of the four main women in the story, all in the present timeline.

Talk about a roller coaster ride from beginning to end! I love thrillers where the characters are in an isolated location and have to puzzle their way out, so the description, for this one immediately caught my attention. And let’s just say, I wasn’t disappointed. As I said above, the red flags immediately start flying, and it’s clear to both the characters and the reader that things are not right from the beginning pages, so the suspense is high right from the get-go. The big questions that we don’t have to figure out are: who and why?

Those answers were well worth waiting for as I absolutely tore through this book eager to figure it all out. There’s quite a few little nuggets that get thrown in there that connect the dots between all of the characters that I didn’t see coming, which made the book a little more exciting, if a little bit far-fetched, but I liked the idea the author was going for so I went with it.

I also liked the main group of women in the book. They all had their faults, and could be annoying at times, but I liked that they weren’t perfect and even a bit flawed, because that made them more realistic in my eyes. Having perfect heroines doesn’t make for an interesting read, and that’s what I’m looking for!

Overall, if you’re into high suspense, high action, thrillers, this is the book for you! I was really drawn in by this one and spread through it.

Highly recommended!

A wonderful experience of love, grief and friendship.

Don’t Ask Why by Steph Nelson

I want to thank @librofm for another wonderful experience! Their ALC program is wonderful and I’m so glad to be a part of it!

I discovered Steph Nelson last year and her writing was simply exquisite! Now, a new novel is out and I had to read it!

Blurb:
Still reeling from her husband’s death, Courtney joins her three best friends on a secluded island in the Florida Keys. But the getaway meant to bring peace quickly spirals into chaos.

First, comes a rumor about a woman who was recently killed on the island. Then, the property manager is nowhere to be found. When a stranger shows up at the vacation rental and one of the friends goes missing, Courtney starts to wonder if they’ll make it home at all.

There’s no Wi-Fi. No cell service. No way off the island for five days. But five days is too long to wait for help. If Courtney wants to survive, she’ll have to fight for her life.

My thoughts 💭

Here Nelson delivers a story about grief, friendship, betrayal and past traumas. I truly enjoyed the concepts of astrology and how they were applied throughout the novel as it added a layer of depth and connection between the characters.

The novel also addresses sensible topics such as loss and grief and how people deals with them differently. How easy it is for us to judge others!

What a wonderful experience is to be able to see characters grow and develop. Sometimes they become what we expect and others we simple watched them struggle and get stuck but they never stand still. Motion. They stay in motion and watching that is a privilege!

I truly enjoyed Nelson’s work and I highly recommend it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

QOTD: Think of a character you enjoyed watching his/her development. I read you!

3.5 ⭐️

It’s a really solid thriller that delivers exactly what you want from a fast-paced, entertaining read. I was immediately drawn in by the premise - the isolated island setting and the classic “holiday gone wrong” trope is one of my favorites, and this book uses it so well. There’s something about characters being cut off from the outside world that automatically raises the tension, and that atmosphere definitely worked here.

I especially loved the character development. Even in a relatively quick read, the author made the cast feel distinct and believable, which made the shifting dynamics and underlying tensions even more compelling. The pacing was strong throughout - it never dragged, and each chapter pushed the story forward in a way that kept me turning the pages. It’s absolutely the kind of book you can devour in one sitting because you just need to know what happens next.

I’ll admit I personally expected it to lean a bit darker or more unsettling in tone, but that’s just a matter of personal preference. If you’re someone who enjoys intense, ultra-gritty thrillers, you might feel the same. That said, it doesn’t take away from how fun and engaging this story is. It strikes a great balance between suspense and readability.

Overall, it’s the perfect “popcorn thriller” - entertaining, twisty, and incredibly bingeable. I can already see this being a go-to pick for seasonal mood readers, especially in the summer. It has that sun-soaked tension and locked-in setting that pairs perfectly with warm weather reading.

I have a love/hate relationship with ARCs… I love requesting them, but sometimes I dread reading them because it starts to feel like work 🥲😅

But WOW. It’s been a minute since a book grabbed me within the first few pages like Don’t Ask Why did. Nelson really nailed the multiple POVs and getting different perspectives on the same horrifying situation kept things tense and fast-paced.

The plot had a solid level of thrill, and the twists definitely kept me on my toes. I think this one is perfect for my thriller lovers who love Stacy Willingham, Lisa Jewell, and those locked-in, no-way-out, can't escape island suspense vibes

Overall, this was a quick, engaging read that pulled me out of my ARC slump so I will be dedicating May to knocking out ARCs. Speaking of which, this book is already published as of March 😛

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher of Don't Ask Why in return for my honest review and opinion.

The book immediately captivated me, holding my interest and attention from the very first page right through to the satisfying conclusion. It was, without a doubt, an utterly engrossing read.

The story centers on Courtney, a woman grappling with the devastating loss of her husband. Seeking a much-needed change of scenery and a reprieve from her grief, she reluctantly agrees to join her closest friends on a restorative trip to the beautiful, yet isolated, Florida Keys.

However, their arrival on the remote island is immediately overshadowed by a disturbing revelation: the recent, unsolved murder of a young local girl. The idyllic vacation quickly takes a sinister turn.

They meet Leslie, the enigmatic owner of the charming, albeit slightly unsettling, rental house. There is an immediate, palpable sense that something is profoundly "off" about Leslie and their temporary home.

The unsettling atmosphere culminates in a heart-stopping event: one of Courtney's friends vanishes without a trace. This disappearance shatters any remaining sense of security and forces the remaining friends to confront the terrifying reality of their situation. Isolated and increasingly paranoid, they are forced to question everything and everyone, including Leslie and each other. These events leave all of them wondering if they will make it back home alive.

In true Steph Nelson fashion “𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗪𝗵𝘆” is a one-sitting, cancel-your-plans kind of read.

Four friends. A beach getaway. Sun, sand, crystal-clear water. It should be giving cocktails and cute group pics. Instead? It’s giving secrets, grief, guns, drugs, betrayal, revenge… and a couple of characters that made me side-eye my own life choices. Dream vacation? Gone. Poof. Kaput.

Was it as pulse-pounding, edge-of-my-seat thriller-y as I typically gravitate toward? Not entirely. But here’s what got me: I felt it. I understood these characters. Their messy decisions. Their grief. Their desperation. And honestly? That emotional undercurrent is what kept me locked in. I didn’t just want to know what happened — I needed to understand why.

And the grief and loss themes? They hit. Hard. In that quiet, uncomfortable way that lingers after you close the book. But sometimes sitting with those feelings is weirdly healing. Sometimes thrillers aren’t just about the shock — they’re about the emotional wreckage underneath.

By the end, I kept thinking about the title. Maybe because asking “why” pulls at threads that unravel everything. Maybe because sometimes we’re not ready for the truth behind people’s choices. We’d rather live with the mystery than face reality. Unfortunately for these characters, the truth doesn’t wait for readiness.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ticking Clock Press for providing me with an ARC.
From the first few chapters, I knew this was going to be one of those thrillers that’s just plain fun to read. The premise is a Girls Trip and immediately there is instant tension between the women as cracks start to show in their friendships. I didn't love any of the women instantly, but what really worked for me was how the story pulled me deeper into the group dynamics as secrets and motivations slowly came into focus. I found myself getting more invested in the characters the longer I spent with them.
The pacing is one of the book’s biggest strengths. It moves quickly without feeling rushed, and is not drawn out. I appreciated that the suspense built in a way that kept me engaged rather than overwhelmed. It’s the kind of thriller that’s easy to fly through because you genuinely want to see how everything plays out.
While I wouldn’t call it the darkest or most shocking thriller out there, it absolutely succeeds at being entertaining and addictive and delivers an unexpected twist. If you’re looking for something atmospheric, character-driven, and perfect for a weekend binge, this is a great pick especially if you’re in the mood for an escapist suspense read. The setting in the keys also makes it a perfect summer read.

This was such a gripping, fast-paced thriller that completely pulled me in. The story follows Courtney, who is still grieving the loss of her husband when she’s convinced to go on a girls’ trip to a secluded island in the Florida Keys. What’s supposed to be a healing getaway quickly turns into something much darker and way more dangerous than any of them expected.

The isolated setting really adds to the tension. No Wi-Fi, no cell service, and no easy way off the island creates this constant sense of unease that builds with every chapter. I loved how the story slowly layers secrets between the characters. You can feel that something is off from the start, and it keeps you guessing the entire time.

The short chapters made this such a quick read, and once it picked up, I genuinely had a hard time putting it down. There are a lot of twists woven throughout the story, and just when you think you have something figured out, it shifts again.

That said, there were a couple of small things that didn’t fully work for me. Some of the astrology elements felt a bit repetitive at times and pulled me out of the story here and there. But overall, it didn’t take away too much from the experience.

If you like thrillers with isolated settings, strong suspense, and plenty of twists, this one is definitely worth picking up. It’s tense, addictive, and keeps you hooked until the end.
