Compromised

Rate this book
In the shadows of espionage, the difference between patriot and traitor can be a single moment of compromise.

Colonel Lance Reed is running out of time. His marriage is collapsing, his promotion to brigadier general is slipping away, and his last chance for redemption lies in the neon-soaked streets of Bangkok. When Chinese cyber warfare officer Lieutenant Colonel Li resurfaces after a decade, Reed sees his opportunity—recruit Li, stop the devastating Pentagon cyberattacks, and salvage his career.

But intelligence work in Bangkok sets the stage for his own destruction. Between cultivating sources at Club Ecstasy and watching his wife Beth accept a position at West Point without him, Reed's carefully compartmentalized life begins to fracture. Then Li makes his move, and Reed discovers that in the wilderness of mirrors, the hunter can become the hunted.

Caught between duty and desire, loyalty and ambition, Reed commits an act of treason that will either save American cyber defenses or destroy them. As the operation spirals toward its devastating conclusion, Reed must confront an impossible sometimes the greatest service requires being willing to be destroyed by it.

From the steamy streets of Bangkok to the corridors of the Pentagon, COMPROMISED is a sophisticated espionage thriller that explores the psychological cost of intelligence work, where every choice is calculated and every compromise leaves a scar. Perfect for readers who enjoy the moral complexity of John le Carré and the authentic tradecraft of Tom Clancy.

A Very Strange Spy Story

This book gets off to a somewhat slow start, allowing The Reader to lose interest and seriously contemplate whether or not to continue the book.
The middle segments of the book tease The Reader here and there, but realistically do little to keep The Reader very enthused.
The last 1/2 of the book, though, begins to tie everything together. All the disgust The Reader has felt for the primary character, not only is confirmed, but then reformed into “What … ???”
I recommend you do NOT read any of the Amazon (or other) descriptions for the story, but definitely grab the book and plan on a few days of trudging thru muck, then reaching dry ground where you can again run with the real story.
