River Quinn is done playing nice. After enduring years of online harassment from a pack of anonymous cowards, she’s hit her limit. The insults. The threats. The sick messages that keep her up at night. When the hate turns physical—doors left unlocked, shadows that shouldn’t be there—River turns to the only place the dark web.
She isn’t looking for justice.
She’s looking for vengeance.
Enter him. A masked vigilante who offers protection in exchange for secrecy. He’s dangerous. Silent. Untraceable. And he promises one thing—he’ll make them cry.
But River doesn’t know the man behind the mask is someone she already knows. Someone she loathes. Her cocky, arrogant coworker, Gage Dawson, who pushes all her buttons and steals the last cup of coffee. The one man she’d never willingly accept help from.
Too bad he’s been obsessed with her for years.
Too bad he’s the only one standing between her and the monsters who want to break her.
Too bad he's about to show her just how deadly he can be—for her enemies... and her heart.
Dark secrets. Masked desire. And a revenge plan that might just end with love.
Make Them Cry is a steamy, twisted enemies-to-lovers vigilante romance full of sharp banter, dark humor, and one possessive hero with a vigilante streak and a very dirty mouth. Buckle up. This one’s going to hurt so good.

A razor-sharp enemies-to-lovers mystery set in the shadows of the gaming world
Gage & River: In make them cry is the kind of book that grabs you by the throat from page one and refuses to let go. It blends murder mystery, high-stakes cyber intrigue, and slow-burn romantic tension into a story that feels both original and electrifying.
Gage and River are perfectly drawn opposites—his cold precision clashing with her fiery intuition in every scene. Their banter crackles, their rivalry feels deliciously real, and the emotional shift from antagonists to unlikely partners is written with just the right amount of friction and vulnerability. By the time they realize they may need each other more than they want to admit, you’re already rooting for them.
The murder plot is equally gripping. Hidden databases, corrupted logs, secret patches, and a prototype game with dangerous implications turn the investigation into a labyrinth the reader can’t resist following. Every clue feels earned, every twist feels intentional, and the escalating danger adds a pulse-pounding edge to the romance.
What truly stands out is how seamlessly the author blends the tech-heavy world of game development with human emotion. You don’t have to be a gamer to understand the stakes—because at its heart, this is a story about trust, loyalty, and choosing the truth even when it could destroy you.
By the end, Gage and River’s journey from enemies to lovers feels like the perfect reward for surviving the dark, twisting maze beside them. It’s smart, addictive, and impossible to put down.
If you love murder mysteries with simmering chemistry, morally gray secrets, and characters who fight as hard as they love, this book is a must-read.
Independent reviewer for BookSirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 2 in the Pretty Deadly Things series, but it's not necessary to read Make Them Bleed, book 1, first. Recommended by me, but not necessary.
River works with Gage, but he gets under her skin, not in a good way. When the online harassment gets personal and much closer to her than before, she turns to the dark web for help. Enter Mask, who promises he can make them cry. But who is he really, and just who can River trust, when people are dying?
I am really REALLY enjoying these books, this author in general!
One point I will make: there is a lot, and I mean A LOT of technical stuff in this one. There is a little directory at the beginning, but I will be honest and kinda glazed over those bits. Far too complicated computer lingo for me to follow but I really don't think I missed anything by not fully understanding.
I liked that it took a bit of time for River to figure out it was Gage behind the mask. I liked that it took time for them to get together, hence the slow burn tag.
It took time for the person behind it all to be revealed, and I did like that I did not see that coming. I thought there might be *some* redemption for a certain character, but she made her bed, now needs to deal with the fall out.
I liked that the scene is set for book 3. Comments made here lay out who is next, so I can't wait to read that!
Loved catching up with Juno and Arrow, and the guys at Maddox Security along with the BRAVO team.
This author is fast becoming a firm favourite. Not easy reads, sometimes the subject matter is difficult, but they easy TO read, you know? I know what I mean :-)
I’ve been one-clicking Logan Chance books for years, and somehow… they just keep getting better. Make Them Cry is dark, sexy, and emotionally charged in all the best ways. It’s book two in the Pretty Deadly Things series, but it reads perfectly as a standalone — though if you’ve met Arrow and Juno, you’ll love the cameos.
This time, we follow River Quinn — a curvy, brilliant coder who’s been relentlessly harassed online. The threats escalate, bleeding into her real life, and River decides she’s done playing nice. She turns to the dark web, seeking vengeance… and finds a masked vigilante who promises to protect her and make her enemies cry.
What she doesn’t know? The man behind the mask is Gage Dawson — her cocky, infuriating coworker who’s secretly been obsessed with her for years. The same guy who steals her coffee and pushes every button she has. And now he’s the only one standing between her and the monsters trying to break her.
💥 Enemies to lovers 💻 Cyber revenge 🎭 Masked protector 🔥 Off-the-charts chemistry 💬 Banter that bites and heals
Gage is possessive, sneaky, and so swoon-worthy it hurts. River is fierce, vulnerable, and absolutely unforgettable. Their slow-burn tension had me flipping pages like my life depended on it. The twists? Sharp. The steam? Scorching. The emotional payoff? So worth it.
If you love vigilante romance with bite, heart, and heat — this one’s for you. Logan Chance, you’ve done it again. I’m already counting down to the next one.
The second book to the series, follows a group of friends turn vigilantes. But this group of friends is more computer, IT smart people. In books one, we meet them all when Arrow helps out Juno. Very similar to their troubles, River needs help in this book.
Gage and River work together at the same company, and have a weird relationship. Nothing bad, but not exactly close either. But they have quite a bit of interaction with one another. Odd things start to happen to River and she needs help. So she hires a masked vigilante. There are many similarities between Mask and her coworker Gage and it doesn’t take long for her to figure it out.
Gage has had a crush on River for quite some time. He picks on her a bit but he refuses to see her hurt. So when threats start to come in, Gage gathers his friends, and now he becomes the Mask, like Arrow did previously. As the threats worsen, Gage must keep River safe, while they all try to figure out who is behind the threats.
Fun and entertaining throughout. I felt it was a bit long but then didn’t really read that way which is good. There is a lot of action and issues going on that keep you intrigued. Love the help from a familiar group of friends, and the tie in with them. Yes, the storyline is pretty much exactly like the first, but it was good. Look forward to seeing what they get caught up in next.
Make Them Cry is a fast-paced read with raging emotions, bone-chilling suspense, action, heart-pounding romance, and a mystery to solve that made me eager to learn what happened next. Characters spring to life with witty banter and vivid scene descriptions.
Story takes place at a tech company and a safe house. River is a curvy beauty who is an intelligent coder and outshines her co-workers. She has been receiving harassing and demeaning messages via text and e-mails. Gage, who is gorgeous known as the office hottie has a dry sense of humor and teases River. His desire to be with River has haunted him for a while. He’s smart, fearless and protective. When the harassment becomes too personal, River turns to the Dark Web for help; her help is a vigilante with a list of rules.
An exciting storyline with fantastic characters. The author does a fabulous job showing the genuine romance between River and Gage. Backstories bring you closer to the characters. All hurdles must end before the happy forever. I received a pre-release copy.
Make Them Cry is the 2nd book in the Pretty Deadly Things series and is twisted enemies-to-lovers vigilante romance that follows River Quinn and Gage Dawson. They are video game developers at NovaPlay Studios. River is being cyberstalked, harassed and bullied at work which turns into actual stalking. She turns to dark web for help when HR isn't any help. There she encounters a vigilante that goes by "Mask" who agrees to help her as long as she follows his rules. Gage has secretly had feelings for River but teases her and comes across as cocky and arrogant when he interacts with her which she despises. You can't help but get drawn into their story which has mystery, suspense, dark humor, witty banter and undeniable chemistry. I love the comradery and unique personalities of the different characters. And the cherry on top is how Logan ties characters from previous books into his stories. Another well worth the read series that keeps getting better and better.
I received a free ARC through Booksprout an I'm voluntarily leaving my review.
River has been the target of harassment through her job. No one expected that she would fight back against them. With threats and comments intensifying, River decides she needs some help so she visits the dark web to find someone to help her. Enter Gage, her coworker that she finds attractive, but annoying who secretly has had feelings for her since he met her. He however, doesn't let her know it is him, and when they meet face to face he wears a mask and uses a voice changer. As the threats escalate, and become worse, also involving Gage, he and his friends work even harder to find out who is behind them and helps River fight back. When River finds out who her mystery savior is, will she be happy? Relieved? This is one adventure that was hard to put down, between the mystery of who was behind the threats, and the building chemistry between River and Gage, I had to know where this was going to end up!
River is being harassed online and is struggling to keep it together as things start to escalate into her real world. She is not sure who to trust so when she receives a message of help from someone called the Mask, she figure she has nothing to lose, so why does he seem so familiar.
Gage has been half in love with River forever but she only sees him as an annoyance at work. So he ceases an opportunity to help find her abusers while hiding his identity under the guise of a mask with the help of his friends. But how long until he has to tell her his true identity and how will she take it.
With things escalating it’s up to Gage to make sure River is safe from harm and he will stop at nothing to ensure her safety.
Such a great read! Loved River and Gage’s chemistry and all the cameos. Highly recommend reading the first book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
I read this book voluntarily for an honest review.
Make Them Cry is Book #2in the new Pretty Deadly Things Series.
I really loved this book, I can’t believe all the intricate tech terms in this story which Logan has a glossary to make it so much easier to understand.
The emotions in this book took me to another level with so much mystery, angst, thrill, suspense and unique banter.
Gage and River work together they bicker always but when things take a turn and gage finds out River is in trouble Let’s just say things take a turn while River goes down the dark hole for vengeance little Does she know who comes out ready to make it right.
This author knows how to weave an intricate story together that leaves you feeling so good by the end! With just the right amount of angst and Oh My God!!!! What just happened in there. Can’t wait for book 3 in the series to come out with the rest of the side characters that we got to fall in love with also
I highly recommend reading this it definitely will grab you in.
This is a thrilling book from beginning to end. I enjoyed the suspense, the danger, the romance and steam. Gage and River work together and sit across from each other. Gage has always had a thing for River, so when she's threatened and cyberstalked, he steps up to the plate to find the people making her life miserable. He initially disguises himself as Mask, so he can help her anonymously. I love his team of friends who help out so effectively and efficiently. It's great how he makes her feel powerful in their partnership as they go after the culprits. They have great chemistry. It took me awhile to understand most of what was going on with the computer tech, even with the glossary, and there were times I just had to accept whatever was happening. But the character development is great and the story kept me engaged. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Make Them Cry is book 2 in the Pretty Deadly Things series. Logan Chance is great at writing a story with the perfect combo of twisty suspense, witty dark humor, unexpected conclusions and steamy, naughty attraction.
I loved the enticing and complex characters here in Make Them Cry. The FMC, River is unknowingly tangled in secrets, sabotage and danger and the MMC, Gage doles out his own brand of vigilante justice all while dirty talking his way into her heart.
You can absolutely read this as a standalone book, it has its own HEA, but I feel it is best to start with book 1, Make Them Bleed, since those characters have roles in this story and you do not want to miss a thing! I cannot wait for another book in this series and in the meantime you can also jump into The Maddox Alpha Team series and The Maddox Bravo Team series since some of those characters also pop in for a visit now and then.
Make Them Cry is the 2nd book in the Pretty Deadly Things series. It can be read as a standalone in a pinch - as I have done - but it's probably better to read them in order as I was missing some background info on the group of friends which I assume were given in the previous book. River and Gage's story is a page-turner of a book with lots of disturbing subjects. I did not find anything remotely humorous or funny about any of it, so would not call it a romcom. There are a lot of technical details about coding which went over my head, but the chemistry and budding romance between them amidst growing danger is at once steamy and sweet. It's missing the 5 star mark because of them seeming to go around in circles and coming to the same conclusions several times and a few dropped threads towards the end. But it's still a very entertaining, pulse-spiking read and I'm looking forward to the next one. I am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
Make Them Cry by Logan Chance is the second book in the Pretty Deadly Things series. Logan Chance has delivered a well written suspenseful action filled spicy romance with some amazing banter. As always I love how he can make the reader feel like they are a part of the story pulling you in and not letting go. This story had me from page one and I didn’t want to put it down. I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what would be around the next corner.
Loved Gage and River together and their banter from the very first chapter. You could feel the tension and the chemistry building between these two every time they were near each other. Logan did an amazing job with this enemies-to-lovers story.
I would recommend you don’t wait and read this one today! You definitely won’t be disappointed.
This is the second book of the series and is just as riveting as the first-definitely recommend reading it as well. Logan provides a great romantic suspense book that captures my interest from beginning til end. Gage is a strong protector that works from the shadows to protect River from work harassment that has deeper dangerous secrets. When his “Mask” falls, River and Gage build a partnership both in cyber detective work and love. I enjoyed every chaotic moment as everyone, including Maddox Security, rally to bring the evil surrounding River down. Cannot wait for the next in this series! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
“It shouldn't undo me the way it does. But tonight I'm a constellation in his palms, and every touch draws a line I didn't know I needed.”
Make them Cry is the second book in the Pretty Deadly Things series by Logan Chance and it hits just as good as the first!! It is the best suspense mixed with a little enemies-to-lovers, dark humor, quit wit, and spicy heat and chemistry. Logan gives it all to us. You’re grabbed from the very beginning and pulled into River and Gage’s lives. They each have unique personalities and the tension that surrounds their every interaction leaves you wanting more. You walk the trials with them and at times are kept on the edge of your seat with the action. The ending leaves you taking a deep breath and smiling. I love how Logan tie’s in previous characters from past series (Maddox Securities), it just makes it that much better! This is a must read series and book. You won’t regret diving into this one!
Holy. Dark. Heat. Make Them Cry hit me right in the adrenaline and didn’t let go. River Quinn is a force—smart, fierce, and done letting the world walk all over her. And Gage… whew. That man in a Scream mask is every bit as cocky, possessive, and swoon-worthy as you hope, with a vigilante streak that takes enemies-to-lovers to a whole new, dangerous level.
The tension between River and Gage is electric, the banter razor-sharp, and the revenge plot deliciously twisted.
Logan didn’t hold back—there’s danger, desire, and a slow burn that’ll leave you breathless and cheering for justice… and for love.
Dark, steamy, and unputdownable. If you like your romance with a side of chaos and a masked alpha hero who’s all kinds of naughty, this one’s for you.
Literally just as good as the first in the series!! Logan can do no wrong in this world of Maddox Security!
We met Gage in Make Them Bleed and Arrows best friend and roommate. Now he works at Nova play coding and has been longing for River since forever. River has become the face of the company but is now getting trolled relentlessly. She needs help and searches the dark web for it, finding Mask (Gage). He assists her in bad situations and puts her in a safe house while they hunt for Regent. The person behind the trolling. Deep fakes of River get posted and she starts having feelings for Mask soon realizing who it really is.
One thing is for sure, Gage will burn down the world for what's his and definitely make them cry.
Make Them Cry by Logan Chance is the captivating story of Gage and River. I gotta say….I’ve read nearly ALL of the books by this author…and this one is, for me….the best!!!! They work together as video game developers. You wouldn’t think that something ‘cyber’ could be so engrossing, intriguing, and completely mesmerizing!!! But, it is!!!!
They aren’t the best of friends at work…but, when River becomes the target of someone who is determined to ‘end her’….things change everywhere….and she finds an unexpected friend in the ether….
Freaking LOVED everything about this story!!!! The characters!!! The back story!!! The complex relationship between them!!! The danger they are subjected to!!!! Everything coalesces into a fantastic read!!!!
Even though I am unfamiliar with the gaming and coding terms (the glossary did help) and scenarios and a little uncertain about my reading experience, I couldn't wait to get into River and Gage's story. And, I am so glad because it is fantastic!!
The fast paced action is intriguing, the dialogue is sharp and witty and the characters are people you want in your circle. Logan Chance has become an addiction for me because his writing is superb with well defined characters involved in interesting and engaging plots.
Don't shy away from this book, this series or this author - you will be entertained with the drama, the passion, the friendships and the happy ending.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
River and her irritating colleague Gage work together in the same office as code developers. After a failed relationship with a co-worker, River starts to be hounded by online trolls. The messages become more intense and show her in her home too. Gage has been crushing on River and is intent on finding out who is behind all of this. So he dons a disguise and messages River with a fake name, Mask. She in turn trusts Mask to help her. When she works out his true identity she realises that she has developed feelings for Gage. The chemistry ignites between them as they work together with not only Gage's team but the Dean Maddox security too, to bring down the brains behind the online abuse. A fun and steamy read with some unexpected twists in the story.
Make Them Cry is an office romance with suspense and hackers vibes. This is Gage and River’s story filled with secret protector and cyber threats. I love their daily banter and the way they still hid their true feelings about each other. It’s until online threats were being made to River, Gage stepped up the protector mode to catch the enemy. I love how they are both smart hackers, and supportive to each other. I also love their chemistry and how they protect each other when things got more messy. Also the appearance of the Maddox Security and Gage’s friends from previous books, was amazing to see. I really enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read the next one!!
I voluntarily leave an honest review of this gifted advance readers copy.
Another fabulous book in this series and the stalker vibes were out in full force with this one. Gage made my heart flutter and his masked moments were so erotic and wild it was giving me goose bumps. River was strong, she was determined and she was not going to let anyone intimidate her and the sizzling hot chemistry between her and Gage set the pages alight. A few very hot and intense moments but that did not deter from the suspense in the story. I loved this book so much, in fact it is right at the top as my favourite, and I loved all the other characters who came together to keep River safe. I am so excited for the next book.
I received an arc copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
All River wants is for the person who is making her life difficult to stop however her attempts to put an end to it through the traditional channels are ineffective she believes her only option is to take matters into her own hands with help of a person she only knows as Mask.
Mask happens to be Gage, one of her co-workers who has had feelings for her for a while. When she needs help there is no way he is going to let her face it alone and hopefully he will be able to keep her safe and that she won’t hold his subterfuge against him.
Gage and River take us on an adventure that includes intrigue, romance and entertaining interactions that will draw you in and have you invested in the outcome.
I’m not sure if I would completely call this a “enemies -to - lovers” book as I didn’t find them to really be enemies, but honestly I love that. Overall, a great book. It was different than what I usually read and I’m all for it. I did enjoy the stalker portion of it, but compared to other books it’s more of a lite version. I’ve never really read a more computer and tech based book, and I don’t know too much about it but I loved it. It was easy to follow and kept you sucked into the plot. I loved the snark and the sexual tension. Gage and River are the cutest couple that’s been through so much together. Though, at the end I wanted to know more about the conclusion and how everyone took it, the company and other people. Would definitely recommend a read.
The next book in this series is a real nail biter. River is working at a tech company and she is being trolled at a dangerous level. No one at the company seems to care or wants to help. She turns to the dark web to get assistance. Gage sees that River is troubled at work, but he's secretly the vigilante helping her. He's agraid his cover will be blown. This doxing runs deeper and more dangerous than anyone expected. All hands on deck are needed, including cameos from. Dean Maddox and his team. The story is fast paced, witty and downright steamy. Thank you to Logan Chance for the advanced copy
In this day and age of cyber bullying and doxing, River finds herself helpless to the noise surrounding her until it ingrains itself in her head. She feels the only relief may come from the dark web where the real predators come to play. Only a gorgeous guy, who she works with, Gage, lingers there too. Hearing her cries for help, he grabs all the red flags in his closet and does what no one else maybe would by going after the people that have made River scared.
This hot cyber tale with so many flying red flags is a fun ride that takes the reader on a journey through cyber security, gaming, the dark web, and a flaming hot romance that only Logan Chance could create.
Make Them cry is a dark book of bullying and revenge. River is a woman being bullied by someone at her work. She goes to HR for help only to find no help. Her co-worker Gage is the only person she talks to other than her best friend Tasha. Gage is another coder like River the only difference is he really like River. And behind the scenes he tries to help solve who her bully is. Them become co-workers to co-conspirators. They are determined to end the bullying but they also find other interest in common. Its a hate to love story you must read. It will keep you guessing and you won't be able to put it down!!
Edgy. I love book 2 in this vigilante series. Arrow starts it in book 1 that links Maddox Security to this spin off. We get familiar with Arrows buddies and Gage is up with his obsession with his coworker River. Cyber bullying that forces River to seek help. I love how the Hunted becomes the Hunter. Good guys win. Love happens. New job and new life in this intense thriller. Getting to know these character with each book makes me enjoy reading this series. And Gage’s little sister Lark and her crush on her brother’s best friend, Knight is next in the line up. Great high energy reads.
