The discovery of an ancient elder god (Cthulhu type) sleeping at the bottom of the ocean in the South Seas, amid a massive temple complex causes civilization to begin to unravel.

The world suffering from "the collapse" see economies fail, the rise of civil unrest, wars, etc... With this as a backdrop the world works to sort itself out and begins to try and understand this sleeping threat, how to study it, prepare if it ever awakens, and restore order.

Into this story, we follow various characters who, unknown to each other, are pawns in a plan by unknown forces to find a solution.

As a lover of cosmic horror, I overall enjoyed this book, however, the character set-ups sometimes dragged for me. It wasn't until the climax that we are given a glimpse of the real plan and see the roles of these seemingly different actors and how they intertwine that really elevated the story.

This is obviously a book 1 of the tale, and I do look forward to continuing it.
