The Cerritos away team begin their investigation on Laapoonia to find out what happened to the Laapeerians. (Don’t get Laapeeria and Laapoonia twisted—it’s not that hard.) Despite their best efforts, and much to Tendi’s chagrin, everyone on the crew except T’Lyn manages to offend the Laapoonians before they can get any answers… How will the Cerritos ever make second contact with the Laapeerians if they can’t even get their first contact with the Laapoonians right?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 Star Trek: Lower Decks (2024) #14 Written by Tim Sheridan • Art by Vernon Smith
Issue #14 delivers exactly what makes Lower Decks such a joy: chaotic diplomacy, earnest screw‑ups, and a crew who somehow manages to make first contact harder than it needs to be. Sheridan and Smith once again capture the show’s rhythm—fast, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt—while pushing the Cerritos into yet another gloriously avoidable mess.
This time, the away team heads to Laapoonia to investigate the mysterious disappearance of the Laapeerians. Naturally, the Cerritos crew immediately offends nearly every Laapoonian they meet. Tendi’s mounting frustration is comedy gold, and T’Lyn’s unflappable calm continues to be one of the best additions to the ensemble. The script leans into the classic Lower Decks formula: well‑meaning chaos, cultural misunderstandings, and a whole lot of character-driven humor.
And that cliffhanger? Absolutely brutal in the best way. Sheridan knows exactly when to pull the rug out, leaving you flipping back through pages to see how the setup was hiding in plain sight.
A zany, tightly paced adventure that feels like a lost episode of the show—complete with sharp comedic timing, expressive art, and a final-page twist that guarantees you’ll be counting the days until the next issue. The Cerritos crew remains as lovable, dysfunctional, and endearing as ever.
If you’re already on board with Lower Decks, this issue is a no-brainer. If you’re new, it’s a perfect reminder of why this corner of the Trek universe has become such a fan favorite.
