"A totally rad romp through 90s nostalgia, Greek myths, and college culture. I had so much fun getting to know these frat boys and their captivating monsters."
-Goldy Moldavksy, New York Times bestselling author of The Mary Shelley Club
"A harrowing adventure filled with twists and turns you won't see coming."
-John Ward, author of the Scareville series
Welcome students, professors, and monsters!
When Miles Pappas pledges as a legacy to Alpha Xi Pi, he'll do anything to gain the attention of the popular crowd on campus. Like the girls from Omega Beta Mu, the most elite sorority and oldest chapter at the university. Miles feels like the gods themselves must be shining down on him after he's chosen to be Row Bachelor. But being Row Bachelor comes with its own set of challenges, such as Greek monsters that are now targeting Miles at every turn. And once Miles and his two new friends uncover the dark secrets hidden around campus, they'll have to fight for their lives and find a way to escape Omega Beta Mu's deadly claws.
As is tradition with the Totally Freaked series, "Omega Beta Monster" is another eerie and nostalgic romp through the 90s and honestly, this entry might just be my favorite so far.
We follow Miles as he enters his freshman year of college, pledging at the same frat his parents did, which is already enough pressure in and of itself. But then you toss in the beautiful and alluring Meg (who also has a sinister twin sister named Alexandra), crazy college antics, Greek mythology AND monsters galore? Yes please!
The writing is very much in the vein of Stine/Pike and I could easily picture this on the shelf beside their names. I was always fascinated by Greek mythology as a kid, and it was fun seeing it used here in a horror centered book rather than fantasy. And that dark twist near the end? YES.
Pledge this one onto your TBR... unless you want to possibly face Scylla's wrath.
There is and always has been a distinct lack of mythological monsters and scenarios in horror. I’m not talking about a period piece, I mean modern setting with a friggin’ Cyclops and stuff. Audrakate Gonzalez decided to fill that void, and not only that, she said “what if I also made it feel like 90’s teen horror?” I don’t know not a thing nothing about baseball but I know that this was a home run. The blurb from Goldy Maldovsky is very fitting too as this feels like a cousin to Of Earthly Delights. Bonus points for the mention of the best after swimming meal, a deli sandwich and chips. K thx.
This book is epic! It was so awesome to see Greek mythology used in horror. I hope this inspires a new generation of kids to learn more about Greek history and mythology. Remember, kids, everyone serves the gods. Grab this one if you are in the mood for something spooky, fun, and highly entertaining!
It was totally rad of Mad Axe Media to give me an ARC.
The Totally Freaked series is always so much fun, and this entry is no exception! If you enjoy fun, nostalgic reads on the creepy side, be sure to check this one out. I love the use of Greek mythology in a horror setting! This book is my favorite of the series so far!
I loved this book and all of the Greek mythology references! I really enjoy Greek mythology so I was excited to dive into this one. A quick and easy read that I sped through in one sitting!
