***Not suitable to sensitive readers given to lots of blood and gore, some graphic details***

Inside the Wolf is probably one of the strangest types of retellings I have read and it has me confused in all sorts of manners.

The story is a look at a joint community where wild and domestic blend together in a toxic environment (the land, not the relationship) but are otherwise basically the same. To solidify the two sides of the same coin, a few representatives are chosen to be welded together in some steampunk version of a lycan although the whole shifter becomes the heartbeat thus forfeiting a portion of their lives so the other can also have a chance of participating.

Anyway the land is dying due to drought and famine since of the strange hybrid creature of Gretel's, whom controls the weather. And although it seems out of place, everyone would rather face death than figure out what may be occurring due to their fear of her and the rule that no one calls unless summoned otherwise.

I don't like the author's concept of shifters but probably, and most especially, various shifters within the same family. To me it seems unnatural, a wolf son of a doe and a mustang? Convenient to the story quite otherwise.

The eccentricity of the story at first caught my attention but it grew rather dull and slower paced even for a novella. Furthermore once you had all the pieces it was a bit easy to figure out who the villain was and you just had to run with it to see how it would unravel.

All in all it was me but definitely not my cup of tea....

This is the best retelling of Little Red Riding Hood that I've read! It is so unique--it takes the original story and completely reimagines it. Beautifully and vividly written, this story is a masterpiece in its own right. The setting and characters are richly drawn. I was craving more! I love how the author reimagines the relationships between the characters. It is a must-read for anyone who loves reading reimagined fairytales!
