Return to Sleepy Hollow #2

Rate this book
Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) continues in Return to Sleepy Hollow! The Van Tassel mortuary is overflowing with bodies–—residents of Sleepy Hollow who died tangled in roots, decorated in flowers, or blanketed in soil. The constables insist that the deaths are accidents, but Ichabod and Katrina suspect that evil has returned to plague the town. As their investigation leads them deeper into the Western Woods, Lotte, Katrina’s daughter, begins an investigation of her own by communing with the spirits of the dead. Screaming to be heard, the lingering souls may hold the answers the living are looking for.

Return to Sleepy Hollow #2
Casey Gilly, Savanna Mayer (Artist)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

A great story that digs deeper into the cursed soil of Sleepy Hollow. Return to Sleepy Hollow #2 expands the eerie mythology of Tim Burton’s 1999 film while carving out its own identity, blending gothic whimsy with creeping dread. Casey Gilly’s script keeps the tension simmering, and Savanna Mayer’s art leans into the uncanny textures of the woods, the mortuary, and the restless dead.

This issue thrives on atmosphere. The Van Tassel mortuary overflowing with strangely adorned corpses sets the tone: something ancient and botanical is stirring beneath Sleepy Hollow, and it’s not content to stay buried. Ichabod and Katrina’s investigation feels like classic Burton-era mystery—equal parts charm and unease—while Lotte’s ability to commune with the dead adds a fresh supernatural thread that promises even darker revelations.

What makes this installment shine is how it balances the familiar with the new. Fans of the film will feel right at home, yet the creative team isn’t afraid to push the mythology into stranger, more spiritual territory. The lingering souls screaming to be heard give the story a tragic heartbeat, hinting that the true horror may not be the deaths themselves, but the secrets they’re trying to reveal.

A strong, moody continuation of the tale—and with the woods growing hungrier and the spirits more desperate, one can only wonder what horrors await in the next issue.
