Her early life was marked by both intellectual curiosity and profound loss. After the death of her mother in 1821 and the subsequent deaths of her two eldest sisters in 1825, Emily and her surviving siblings— Charlotte, Anne, and Branwell—were raised in relative seclusion in the moorland village of Haworth, where their imaginations flourished in a household shaped by books, storytelling, and emotional intensity.
The Brontë children created elaborate fictional worlds, notably Angria and later Gondal, which served as an outlet for their creative energies. Emily, in particular, gravitated toward Gondal, a mysterious, windswept imaginary land she developed with her sister Anne. Her early poetry, much of it steeped in the mythology and characters of Gondal, demonstrated a remarkable lyrical force and emotional depth. These poems remained private until discovered by Charlotte in 1845, after which Emily reluctantly agreed to publish them in the 1846 collection Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell, using the pseudonym Ellis Bell to conceal her gender. Though the volume sold few copies, critics identified Emily’s poems as the strongest in the collection, lauding her for their music, power, and visionary quality.
Emily was intensely private and reclusive by nature. She briefly attended schools in Cowan Bridge and Roe Head but was plagued by homesickness and preferred the solitude of the Yorkshire moors, which inspired much of her work. She worked briefly as a teacher but found the demands of the profession exhausting. She also studied in Brussels with Charlotte in 1842, but again found herself alienated and yearning for home. Throughout her life, Emily remained closely bonded with her siblings, particularly Anne, and with the landscape of Haworth, where she drew on the raw, untamed beauty of the moors for both her poetry and her fiction.
Her only novel, Wuthering Heights, was published in 1847, a year after the poetry collection, under her pseudonym Ellis Bell. Initially met with a mixture of admiration and shock, the novel’s structure, emotional intensity, and portrayal of violent passion and moral ambiguity stood in stark contrast to the conventions of Victorian fiction. Many readers, unable to reconcile its power with the expected gentility of a woman writer, assumed it had been written by a man. The novel tells the story of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw—two characters driven by obsessive love, cruelty, and vengeance—and explores themes of nature, the supernatural, and the destructive power of unresolved emotion. Nadie me ha caído bien en esta historia, son moralmente cuestionables y hay una falta de amor y cariño descomunal, así que tampoco me sorprende la personalidad de los personajes.
No entiendo por qué se habla de esta historia como una historia de amor, esperaba otra cosa, me ha parecido estar llena de relaciones y vínculos tóxicos.
Elena como narradora principal me ha gustado, contándolo todo como si fuera gossip girl y pensando todo el rato "esta puta niña" de Catalina, same Nelly, same.
Y a pesar de todo me ha mantenido con ganas de leer, al principio me resultó un poco denso pero después genial. Muy dinámico y entretenido para la época

No le pongo un 5 porque los personajes me han caído regular. Me gusta como está narrado en primera persona pero en modo testigo vamos, que todo el libro es como un chisme. El ambiente oscuro y trágico, el amor salvaje pero que de romántico tiene poco (más bien tóxico). Vamos que me gusta a mí una historieta lúgubre solo me ha faltado unos personajes que me cayesen bien aunque tengo que decir que la villania del señor Heathcliff está muy lograda.

Anoche terminé Cumbres Borrascosas de Emily Brontë, y hoy quiero compartir una opinión más personal que una reseña. Le di 4 estrellas porque en un momento de la lectura tuve un pequeño parón que me costó superar, pero en general ha sido una historia que me ha mantenido muy enganchada.
Al tratarse de un clásico, pensaba que sería una lectura más pesada, pero para nada ha sido así. Cada vez que volvía al libro, lograba meterme de lleno en la historia. Hubo momentos en los que me costaba seguir leyendo por lo mucho que me hacía sufrir, pero al mismo tiempo sentía la necesidad de continuar y descubrir hacia dónde se dirigía la trama.
Creo que empezar este libro con expectativas influenciadas por la película puede ser un error, porque puedes esperar una historia de amor… y no lo es, o al menos no una historia de amor bonita.
Leer Cumbres Borrascosas ha sido toda una experiencia. Lo recomiendo mucho!!!!

Creo que mi decepción para con este libro, fue que lo pintaron como una historia de amor increíble pero no es nada así. Todos los personajes se odian entre todos, solo padre e hija se tienen mucho amor.
Nelly es el único personaje que me agrado, nunca fue mala, siempre sincera y centrada. Además de que es una increíble narradora, realmente parece como si estuvieras sentada con ella tomando el té.
Y aunque me cueste admitirlo Heathcliff como villano no decepcionó, de principio a fin no dejó ese carácter tan suyo.
Nelly es el único personaje que me agrado, nunca fue mala, siempre sincera y centrada. Además de que es una increíble narradora, realmente parece como si estuvieras sentada con ella tomando el té.

Muy largo y tedioso de leer, los nombres de los personajes dan lugar a confusión. Básicamente es una romantizacion o idealización de una pareja toxica y con 0 responsabilidad afectiva donde el maltrato físico y psicológico se va perpetuando a lo largo de toda la historia tanto en la primera como en la segunda generación. La violencia es completamente evidente en todos los personajes y la discordia entre ellos es terrible.
