this book had me STRESSED in the best way

we’re back with Suni and Damien but this time we’re in HIS world (DC vibes, music scene, tension everywhere) and you can literally feel how much deeper everything gets between them 😭 the chemistry?? insane. the emotional whiplash?? even worse.

Damien’s past really said “i’m not done with you yet” and it causes SO much drama, like old flames, baggage, and just…men making complicated choices 🫠

i loved how real their relationship felt though. it’s messy, it’s intense, and you’re constantly wondering if love is actually gonna be enough this time

tropes/vibes:
– second chance-ish energy
– long distance tension
– “his past vs her future”
– music + city life aesthetic
– emotionally unavailable but trying

overall: if you like angsty romance where the connection is strong but LIFE keeps getting in the way…this one will hook you

4⭐️ (and yes I was yelling at Damien half the time)

District Between Us is the kind of sequel that doesn’t just continue the story—it deepens it.

What I loved most is how this book shifts the power and perspective. In the first story, we meet Suni in her world. Here, she steps fully into Damien’s. Washington, D.C. isn’t just a setting; it’s a mirror. We see Damien surrounded by his past, his ambition, his history, and the versions of himself he hasn’t fully reckoned with yet.

The chemistry between Suni and Damien is still very much there, but it’s layered now. This isn’t just late-night rides and easy banter. This is real life energy. Career pressure. Old flames popping up. Unfinished business. The kind of stuff that tests whether attraction can actually turn into something lasting.

From the Synopsis, I Should have known I wasn't getting my happily ever after. Seeing Damien in his hometown of DC, was different from the smooth, nice guy he was during his time in Atlanta.

You see Damien struggling with his life choices. The one thing that is clear is his work ethic in determining him to be successful. I found out more about Suni’s character through her relationships with family and friends in "District Between Us".

This was a page turner. I couldn't put the book down. What hit me was how relatable the characters were. The book hit to close to home for me. Will you hate Damien as much as me?
Then author Tay Moore left me on edge with the ultimate cliffhanger. Will Damien and Suni get their HEA?

The District Between Us really surprised me. The dual POV works great. This book had more anticipation than the first short novel. The main character, Damien, is charming, confident, and frustrating in a very believable way, while Suni is watchful, gua, and strong. It was honestly the most compelling part of the book: watching them circle each other, wanting love but struggling with trust. I struggled with the first book being both insta love and too familiar, and not overly exciting. In this book, they added just the right amount of buildup. Anyone who likes realistic love stories with some hard truths will enjoy it.

District Between Us has a strong sense of place and a clear urban vibe. The D.C. setting feels lived-in, and the chemistry between the leads is immediate. Where it didn’t fully land for me was depth — the story leans more into lifestyle, labels, and atmosphere than character development or emotional growth, especially in the first half.

I found myself wanting more internal stakes and more insight into who these characters are beyond the vibe. Readers who enjoy cinematic, fast-moving, city-centered romance with a focus on chemistry and setting may connect more than I did.

For me, it was a solid read, just not fully my taste.

finished The Distance Between Us by Taymoore and whew… this book had me screaming into nothingness.

I have never been more pissed off at a man in my life than I was at Damien. Like actually sick 😭

Tae’s writing feels so real it’s like your friend calling you, giving you the full rundown, filling in all the gaps you didn’t even know you missed.

And their relationship? Way too real. I was annoyed with Suni’s insecurities at first, not even gonna lie… but once everything started unfolding? Oh baby. She had EVERY right to trust her intuition.

Because Damien? Yeah… he was a lowdown, dirty dog. No debate. Yay set me up I thought I was getting a happy ending 😭😭

I had the pleasure of ARC reading the District Between Us and was slightly disappointed that it didn’t have the same impression as Drive Me Crazy. The pacing was not as consistent leaving some parts to be too drawn out and others to almost go by too fast. I also felt blindsided by the last chapter after having built the entire novel around Suni and Damien. However, I enjoyed the banter and descriptive storytelling and the how relatable each of the characters were.

Arc review.

This Urban Romance was really good, I really loved that it was a realistic love story! My girl Suni (the Fmc) doesn’t play with these men, it’s strict over there!!! I rated the book 3 stars.

I will say the author is very thorough, the book was SUPER descriptive, like every little thing was described. I felt like that took away from the good things in the book. Other than that it was a decent read.

This is the second book in the Suni series and I really hope there is more because I definitely wasn’t prepared for what happened in this book!

Wow Damien really surprised me and he’ll definitely regret some choices he made. I hope he stubs his big toe on the corner of the bed frame every morning.

Suni got a little crazy there for a minute but she recovered and is still the cool girl I want to be friends with. I hope we get to read more about her and where she goes with her art.

Thank you for the ARC… ARC Review.

District Between Us continues Suni and Damien’s story with strong emotional moments and a deeper look into Damien’s past. The D.C. setting adds a nice layer and raises the stakes, especially as old wounds resurface.

Overall, a solid installment with meaningful themes of love, fear, and timing.

This book was extremely freaking good! Not your usual urban romance fiction. In this book you get the man’s side but also the woman’s perspective and Tay Moore did an EXCELLENT job on telling the story from a strong black woman side. I will definitely be reading all of the series #teamsuni

Suni is now my favorite FMC of 2025!! I’m addicted to the SuniVerse…

This book is a must read and will keep you hooked from the beginning. I’m hoping that the curiousness we both have about somethings said doesn’t get her caught up, but then again I really hope she gets some answers…
