Life is getting flat-out weird—except this isn't my life anymore.
It seemed like a sweet gig. It was the most I'd ever been paid as a night security guard, and there was little to do other than keep one eye on the CCTV and read my books. But I couldn’t just stay put—I had to go nosing around that mysterious research facility and check out the one sector that was strictly off-limits. I had to press that button.
Well, now I’ve ended up… I don’t know where. This place seems an awful lot like the medieval city in a fantasy book I left in my desk. And everyone here thinks they know me—including the beautiful tavern owner who's taking me in. They all seem to think I'm some illustrious knight on the Queen's Guard, hell-bent on slaying the giant beast that’s been raiding their town.
And the next thing I know, I’m surrounded by a female-run gang of 1950s mobsters. They think they know me too… except they've got me locked up in a warehouse by the docks, waiting for my new cement shoes to dry and left at the mercy of a glamorous redheaded bombshell with a Tommy gun.
Throw in a bunch of mutants created by my screw-up at the research facility, and surviving any of these places long enough to stumble into the next one is looking kind of tricky. So it’s a good thing one or two of my strange new companions are starting to grow on me…
A portal adventure containing fantasy and sci-fi elements, set across multiple worlds, with unconventional relationships and steamy scenes.
I DNF this book in the first chapter. The MC is too dumb for me to continue with.
He works as a night shift security guard, and the only big thing they told him was "Don't try to go into Section T, your security access won't let you in there." So, he thinks it's perfectly natural to be curious to the point he steals someone else's passcode from their locker, and heads on it. This after thinking about how amazing it is that he lucked into such a cushy job that pays him so well and has a hands-off boss. But nope, he *has* to know what goes on in this secret section of the building.
I don't want to read about someone who probably has to remember to breath getting a harem because the did something really dumb and it all works out for them.
