Meet the tiny troublemaker before he became the lasagna-loving legend!
A baby’s big little moments are some of the most special and cherished experiences for doting parents—pet parents included! Join the sassy but oh-so-adorable baby Garfield in navigating a series of universal “firsts” in this paw-sitively silly new comic series purrfect for Garfield-lovers, feline fanatics, and readers of all ages.
Featuring two short stories brimming with cattitude, writer Grace Ellis (Lumberjanes) and artist Asia Simone (Moon Girl and Devil Wreck & Roll) capture Garfield’s very first word, while writer Michael Northrop (Dear Justice League) and Rob Justus (Superman’s Good Guy Gang) commemorate the often overlooked, but just as moving milestone…first hairball!
This hiss-terical issue is the first of four fun comic book adventures.
Grace Ellis is a writer best known for co-creating and co-writing Lumberjanes, a New York Times bestselling, Eisner and GLAAD Award-winning comic, though you won't hear her brag about it unless you ask her directly. She has written several episodes of the animated series Bravest Warriors. Grace lives in Columbus, Ohio, where she co-parents a preternaturally smart cat, even though she's more of a dog person.
I decided to pick up this book simply for the nostalgia as I loved watching Garfield as a kid. In this book, Garfield is just as adorable and just as food obsessed as I remember. My one critique is that moving from chapter to chapter the art and scenes changed in quality and style which took away from the reading and continuity experience for me. Some chapters had very vibrant while others gave more of a sketch of the characters.
4.5 / 5.0 Who doesn't love a roly-poly little furball who is obsessed with eating and sleeping?!? I was a fan of Garfield when I was a young girl in the 80's. I loved Jim Davis' style and loved drawing Garfield as well. This is a great throwback for someone in their 40's who wants to bring Garfield and his antics to a new generation of kiddos. The illustrations and designs in the pages of this book keep the reader engaged and drawn into each baby Garfield story.

I picked this one up because I used to own the classic black-and-white Garfield comics as a child, and I absolutely loved them. This collection really taps into that nostalgia. I especially enjoyed how it focuses on Garfield’s “firsts,” which gives it that original, classic Garfield feel.
The colors are vibrant, and the humor is full of the goofy puns you’d expect—they really nailed that signature Garfield charm.
My only note is that the comic feels a bit inconsistent at times. It’s clear that different illustrators worked on the stories. While they’re all very talented, the styles don’t always match—some pages feel crisp and modern, while others have a softer, more watercolor, old-school look. Individually, they all capture the Garfield vibe really well, but together it can feel slightly uneven for a single collection.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this and would happily pick up other installments. It brought back a lot of great memories.
As a journalism graduate of Ball State University where I was able to meet Jim Davis, the original creator of Garfield, and visit his studio several times, I must admit I was skeptical that this book could hold up. Indeed, that is the case though. Although the book seems to have no ties to or endorsement from Jim Davis, the authors have created a backstory that runs true in developing the lasagna-loving, havoc-wreaking Garfield (and Odie) that we all know and love. The artwork, too, was believable in portraying the younger Garfield, Odie and Jon. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this cute, lasagna-filled book available to read as a eARC!

This is a children's graphic novel that follows Garfield as a baby.
I think this was so cute and kids will really enjoy it! I love Garfield and the situations he gets himself into are so funny to me. I found the artwork really fun as well.
This book was adorable. It was the perfect amount of nostalgic classic Garfield with a modern twist. The artwork was amazing. Baby Garfield had me laughing the entire time. I love the throwback in the end of the book to classic Garfield. I was impressed by how many puns John continued to come up with. I hope they continue this series.
my 5 year old twins and i really enjoyed this together. even my 12 year old found it cute and fun. the art was sweet and the same old charm of garfield but in baby comic form was refreshing.
