Marian Heretic #5 — ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
By Tini Howard & Joe Jaro

Marian Heretic #5 feels like the moment the series exhales—only to immediately tighten the noose again. Tini Howard pushes Marian deeper into the moral labyrinth she’s been circling since issue #1, and this chapter makes it clear: there’s no clean way out of Vespers, only choices that reshape her soul.

The fallout from the Church murder hits fast and hard. Marian and Ravenna on the run is exactly the chaotic, combustible pairing you’d expect, but what gives this issue its emotional punch is the danger closing in on Marian’s Sisters. The Church’s enforcers aren’t just antagonists—they’re a reminder of everything Marian is trying (and failing) to outrun. Joe Jaro’s art captures that pressure beautifully: the shadows feel heavier, the movement sharper, the desperation more visible in every panel.

What really lands is the thematic tension. Marian is caught between guilt, loyalty, and a destiny she’s been resisting with both hands. The question hanging over every page—Is she a heretic, or is she a witch?—finally starts to feel less like a threat and more like an invitation. The issue doesn’t answer it outright, but it nudges her closer to embracing the truth she’s been terrified to claim.

Great story, great artwork, and absolutely the kind of cliffhanger that makes you itch for more. The city of Vespers is only getting more treacherous, and Marian is finally stepping into the storm instead of running from it.
