What impresses me the most is that this is the fourteenth book in this series and instead of getting a bit same old same old this series keeps getting better! Maybe part of the success is that Kay Bratt takes a true crime and makes it part of her story in a unique and fresh way. It is also that I have come to love the Gray family and enjoy seeing their continued growth individually and as a family. Keep them coming Kay!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5/5)

Book 14 in the Hart’s Ridge Series starts with a burning car that takes a personal twist for Taylor Grey and opens up a ‘can of worms’ and delves into the dark side of this little town.

I thoroughly enjoy this series. The family aspect of not just blood relatives, but the small community of Hart’s Ridge. This book felt a more personal for Taylor. Her startling discoveries, disappointment and tenacity jumped thru the pages. This book opened up a few new storylines for the Grey family and new characters I’d enjoy seeing again. I’d love to see these carried into the next book showing some accountability for certain characters and continuing with new friendships. The last sentence left me with a little gasp that I didn’t see coming. A much loved series, I expect Kay Bratt has more twists up her sleeve and I look forward to Book 15.

I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

Tell Me Why is the 14th book in Kay Bratt’s Hart’s Ridge series. I myself have read every single book and the more I read the deeper I get pulled into the drama that takes place inside this small town. The stories all center around Taylor Gray, an ex-sheriff deputy, and her extended family. But with each new installment we also get to learn about other members of the community along with some of the drama that takes place amongst them. In this book we are introduced to a new character and her very dysfunctional family and their derelict behavior. Tula who had run off to California to make a better life for herself, returns home to help out her younger brother and ends up sticking around to help her mother who is suffering from a major health condition. She soon accepts help from one of the Gray sisters and before you know it the entire family is by her side, not only in friendship but by helping her in any way she needs. In this book, as well as all of the others, the author has incorporated a real life crime that she adapts into her storyline. This one was especially interesting because it pertained to someone I would have never suspected and it just goes to show you never really know who you can trust. I have found this series to be very captivating, once I finish one book, I am anxiously awaiting the next. I believe that’s because they are all mysteries that take place amongst small town living with characters that seem so real and believable. This is a series I highly recommend, my only wish is that I didn’t have to wait until March of 2026 to read the next installment which is book 15 that the author has titled Ticket To Ride. I’m giving this story a much deserved 5 star rating and look forward to reading what’s coming next for Hart’s Ridge.

Kay Bratt has nailed it once again with her latest book in the Hart’s Ridge series, Tell me Why. Using the foundation of a true story, Kay weaves her fictional additions into a gripping and scary murder mystery in her home town. When one of Taylor Gray’s friends from her past is found dead, she is devastated and determined to find out what really happened. What she finds rocks her to her core. I couldn’t put this book down and finished it in a day. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! And for those who have not read other books in the series, they can be read as stand alone mysteries, however, to really know and understand the mindset of Taylor Gray, this reader would suggest to start at the beginning and enjoy the whole series.

Book 14 in the Hart's Ridge series, and it just gets better and better!
Taylor Gray is no longer part of the local police force, but she remains as passionate about solving crimes and mysteries that occur in the area.
This time, the mysterious death of someone close to Taylor, triggers her into investigating, alongside her old partner at work, Shane.
My oh, my, I wasn't expecting that ending, that's for sure!
This series is thrilling, and each book keeps me turning pages until the end.

Tell Me Why by Kay Bratt is the latest new book in the Hart’s Ridge series. It is book number 14! That alone should tell you how popular this series is. The readers of this series keep begging for more. As far as I am concerned, it could go on forever and I will still be reading it. Let me tell you why this clicks all the boxes for me.

I think the number one reason is that I have been able to feel like part of the Gray family. Taylor Gray started in this series as a sheriff with the local department and was trying to work her way up to detective and never made it. She and her husband now have their own detective agency. I have grown to love her and the rest of her family. They are an interesting bunch and have been through a lot.

The second reason is I love police and detective/mystery books. This series hits most of my favorite genres. There are Romance, Crime, Family of course Mystery and Detective stories in this series. I generally think there is something for everyone in this series.

The third reason is the family runs an animal shelter. They are raising money and taking care of animals that need someone to look after them. They find homes for them when they are healthy. They have provided jobs and living space for the ones they grow close to and most of the family lives in the compound. Idyllic.

Another theme you know I love is the town of Hart’s Ridge is a small mountain town. I love small towns. There is always a variety of characters in the small towns to keep them interesting. I just think small towns are more caring for their town folk.

Kay Bratt’s Tell Me Why is again one of the best books in the series. They just keep getting better and better. There are twists and turns that will keep you turning pages long past your bedtime. I highly recommend the Hart’s Ridge series for your reading pleasure. Until Next time…Happy Reading!

Don’t forget to support the authors you read by leaving a review. Even a few words help.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not required to write a review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Tell Me Why is the fourteenth book in the Hart’s Ridge series by Kay Bratt. Private investigator Taylor Gray is called to the scene of a charred vehicle, a vehicle registered to her family’s farm. Inside is a body too damaged to be identified; however, nothing prepares Taylor for the news that the victim might be someone who called family. She begins by digging deep into the victim’s ties to a shady local business, a business that seems to come out of nowhere. A business which leaves a trail of secret deliveries and someone pulling the strings. Fighting through grief and the swirling rumors, Taylor follows every lead of corruption, addiction and betrayal. She gets closer with each lead, there is someone who is desperate to keep her from discovering the truth. Her instincts tell her there is more to the case than just an unfortunate accident. However, she isn’t prepared to learn who is behind it all.
The Hart’s Ridge series has been a wild ride of cases inspired by real life events and a family forming a new foundation. Tell Me Why opens as Taylor is racing to the scene of an accident which readers learned about in the previous book. When I learned who the victim was, I cried and I was just as determined as Taylor to find out the why and who. I did pick up on a clue about who the mastermind behind the shady business was and I hoped I was wrong. The story does end on a cliffhanger as someone who is finally ready to reveal all that they know. If you are a fan of the Hart’s Ridge series, I highly, highly recommend Tell Me Why. If you haven’t started the series, I recommend starting with book 1, Hart’s Ridge. You will be pulled into the small town, the residents and the danger that lurks in the shadows.

Tell Me Why will be available November 24, 2025 in paperback and eBook

Another Solid Entrant Where Bratt's Heart Is Tattooed On Her Upper Arm With Her Sleeves Down. For a series that was *supposed* to end at Book 7 or so to now have doubled that speaks to just how popular it has become among fans of the author. That the new books continue to sell and continue to bring in new fans speaks to how well the author is crafting both each individual entry and the overall arc of the series. I know in my own reviews I've noted before the series was supposed to end at this book or that book or whatever, but at this point it seems that Bratt will be containing this series through the rest of her writing days.

With this particular entry and its particular crime, Bratt's heart shines through in more muted and subtle ways than in both previous entrants in this series and in Bratt's prior works such as her True To Me series or (where I first "met" Bratt) in Dancing With The Sun... and yet equally powerful as those other books, when you know her story. (That she speaks of from time to time publicly, to be clear.) Bratt's loves are never far from her mind, and always shine through in her writing when you know where you're looking... and yet when you *don't* know these details, she still provides an all-t00-real look into far too many of our own families and, in her fictional world, gives us hope that all can work out as well as Bratt makes it work out here. Which isn't to say there won't be tragedy, just that the family *will* work through whatever tragedies may come - and celebrate whatever successes may come too.

The heart of the Hart's Ridge community - and of the Gray family in particular - is what makes this series so strong, so what is coming next for those hearts following the events here...

I for one am looking forward to finding out. ;)

Very much recommended.

Sometimes when a series gets too long, it seems like the author is on auto-pilot and just re-hashing the previous books. That is DEFINITELY not the case with the Hart's ridge series. Kay Bratt brings her reads new story lines, new characters and a well written and suspenseful in every book of the series.

There are two intertwined plots in this book. The first is Taylor's investigation into the death of a friend who lives on the Grey property and is trying to turn her life around. When her body is found in a burned out car, everyone assumes that she has started using drugs again and the sheriff doesn't even want an investigation. Taylor is sure that her friend was murdered works hard to connect the information that she has found to make sure that someone else doesn't die. The other plot involves the Skagg family and the daughter who reluctantly came back to help her mother and brother. She perseveres despite the derision she gets from her mother and her brothers. Both plots tie together in a well done conclusion to the story.

If you enjoy a suspenseful page turning book in a series based on the same family, you don't want to miss this series. You definitely want to read the series from the first book so you totally understand all of the characters and what drives Taylor to want to help everyone she knows. This is Book 14 in the Hart's Ridge series and I hope that there are many more books coming. I'm not ready to say goodbye to Taylor, the Grey family and everyone we have met in Hart's Ridge.

This is the 14th book in the Hart's Ridge series. You might expect the story to become stale after so many installments, but Kay Bratt has a remarkable talent for introducing new ideas that keep the narrative fresh and engaging. Tell Me Why is a story that lingers in your mind long after you finish reading. From the very first chapter, I was immersed in a world of resilience, love, and the quiet strength of women who refuse to be defined by their hardships.

A burned car with a body inside is discovered on the outskirts of town, prompting former cop turned private investigator Taylor Gray to investigation. When it becomes clear that the victim is a close family friend, Taylor is determined to uncover the truth and identify those responsible. As she joins forces with her former partner Shane, their investigation leads them through a thrilling series of twists and turns, culminating in a surprise ending that ties all the pieces together.

Tell Me Why is a rare story that resonates deeply and stays with you. Kay Bratt portrays emotions with remarkable honesty, allowing readers to connect with the characters almost instantly. I embraced their flaws and became fully invested in their journeys.

If you enjoy a story featuring a strong female lead, a complicated family dynamic where members prioritize each other, and an engaging mystery filled with twists and turns leading up to a thrilling climax, you will love this series. I recommend reading the series in order so you can really get to know the Gray family with the other recurring characters.

First I want to thank best selling author, Kay Bratt for providing me with yet another copy of the next book in her Hart's Ridge series, Book #14. I truly can't believe I've read 14 books and each one just keeps getting better than the last book, how is that possible?

This book, "Tell Me Why" can be read as a stand-alone, but if you haven't read all of the books in the series you are really missing out. I highly suggest you start with, (Hart's Ridge Book #1). The main character in the series is Deputy Taylor Gray who you will love. Each book is full of unforgettable characters, mystery, suspense, twists and turns, I guarantee you will be hooked!

"Tell Me Why" starts out when a charred vehicle is found abandoned on the outskirts of town with a body too damaged to identify inside, that's when Taylor Gray, now a private investigator is called on the scene. I'm not going to give out any spoilers but there are many shocking twists to this story set in a small town of many family ties. The ending will have you wishing the next book #15 was already published!

As with the other books in the Hart's Ridge series, I gave this a FIVE STAR rating. I would go higher if I could!

Book Number 14 in this entertaining, interesting series that incorporates many strong Southern female characters, the main character being a former Sherriff's Deputy turned Private Investigator. To fully understand the characters, their actions and the location, I highly recommend that you read the previous 13 books. This is an ongoing family saga that incorporates a mystery in each book that is based loosely on factual events but as the author states "fictionalized and altered to fit into the fictional story''.
The story is believable, the characters are realistically conversational. It is fast paced and will hold your interest all the way through. Definitely another page turner for this series. Please read the book description for any details as I'm not a book reporter nor do I write anything that would be a spoiler, however, I will tell you it's a great read! I was provided an advanced reader copy but under no obligation to write a review. The opinions expressed are my own. Many thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book. Now go grab it and the previous 13 and enjoy a good clean interesting book series.

Taylor, now a private investigator, joins her former partner Shane to solve the murder of Taylor’s friend, Quig, who had been working hard to better her life and that of her children. The sheriff doesn’t seem to care if the case gets solved, almost as if Quig wasn’t important enough to utilize department resources to find her killer. Another murder related to the case has Taylor even more determined to find out what happened.

Tula Skaggs has reluctantly returned to Hart’s Ridge to temporarily care for her ailing mother. She finds herself befriended by the Taylor family and helps to uncover clues related to Taylor’s investigation when it’s revealed that her family has ties to the establishment Quig was working a second job for.

Twists, turns, danger, secrets revealed, and a bombshell ending! An awesome addition to the series. Eagerly awaiting the next book in the Hart’s Ridge series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book in this wonderful series starts off pretty intense! Taylor is racing to the scene of a horrible car accident, not knowing who was involved. As she ticks off all of her family members and their whereabouts to determine if they are safe, she speeds to the location of the wrecked car. How frightening!

The intensity during Taylor's investigation doesn't wan much at all as she tries to figure out what happened and why. The corruption and the secrets that she uncovers puts everyone around her in danger. I flew through the pages to try to unravel the mystery myself.

I love this series and I love each adventure that Kay Bratt takes me on with her new book. I love the cases that Taylor gets wrapped up in as well as the personal family happenings that are a part of every episode. I get the mystery right along with the family drama. The best of both worlds.

The Hart's Ridge series is an amazing set of stories, with memorable characters and interesting plots. I highly recommend Tell Me Why, along with this whole series—it just keeps getting better and better.

Tell Me Why is a gripping mystery that showcases Kay Bratt at her absolute best. From the moment private investigator Taylor Gray arrives at the scene of a devastating car fire, Bratt draws you into an intense story where every clue matters and every revelation hits hard.

Bratt blends suspense with heart, crafting a story that’s as much about the secrets a small town keeps as it is about the people trying to survive them. Taylor is a compelling protagonist... sharp, wounded, and relentlessly determined... and following her through the twists of corruption, hidden money, and personal betrayal makes this book impossible to put down.

With perfect pacing and emotional stakes that only intensify as the truth comes into focus, Tell Me Why is a standout addition to the Hart’s Ridge series. Fans of character-driven mysteries will devour this installment, and new readers will be instantly hooked. Kay Bratt delivers a powerful, haunting, and deeply satisfying read that you'll remember long after you close the book.

This is the 14th book in this series, each book is a different story and includes alot of detail. I really enjoy reading this series and am eagerly waiting on the next book to be released.

Set in Harts Ridge, Taylor was part of the Sheriffs office but left to have a family and pursue her Private Investigator business with her husband. She lives in a farm with her sisters, all in different houses and they run an animal rescue abd dog boarding business. Her Mum lives with her 2nd husband on the next piece of land and she helps them too.

This book is all about a body found in a burnt out car and Taylor fears its one of the friends she helped along the way; it opens a whole new Investigation into what was happening in her friends life, and who is behind some of the shadier dealings in Harts Ridge.

I loved the book and there's a twist towards the end, one which hurts Taylor so much!

The books in this series are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.

I cannot wait for the next book to be released.

No spoilers here! This is the 14th book in the Hart’s Ridge series and I highly recommend reading them all in order of you haven’t already done so, only then will you truly know the significance of this storyline.

I have been lucky enough to read an advanced copy of the book Tell Me Why by Kay Bratt. Having read all of the series as the books came out, I feel like I know the characters as if they are my friends. I was not expecting this outcome at all! What a brilliant book. We catch up with Taylor going out to a crash on the road, it’s a license plate known to Taylor and her heart is in her mouth as she nears the burned out shell of the vehicle … but who is it, whose remains? She mentally ticks off her family, checking each one is ok, except for one person she has taken to her heart. But why? What was it that led to this? Sorry you will have to read the book to the very end to find out.

My, my what an amazing read. This fourteenth installment in the Hart's Ridge series is one of the best yet! It has a thrilling storytelling, familiar characters that get to you, and others that are new to know. A nail biting homicide, an investigation that Taylor Gray wants to help with. The investigation is nothing but normal and she just can't let it slip away from her. Quig, one of Taylors friend deserves justice. The story has plenty of action and is very adventurous, it has several twists and turns. Once you think it's very bad it gets worse. Things do happen in Hart's Ridge and a troubling family shows up in the middle of it all. Plenty of suspense that keeps the reader wanting to find out more. This unputdownable book will keep you guessing till the end. The end will keep you hanging up on the cliff till the next book shows up.
I can definitely recommend this book, for anyone wanting to read a suspenseful thriller. I'm grateful to have read it.

Tell Me Why???? Wow

This is another great read. Someone dear to Taylor is missing and a burned out car with remains in it is spotted. Is it Quiq? Who?? And a new person is back in town. She left years ago and vowed not to return but sometimes family draws you back. Even a screwed up.family.
Taylor is unofficially investigating the murder and the sheriff is not helping her. So she and Shane have to meet secretly Tom share evidence. Sam doesn't like it but he trusts Taylor.
Anna and Jo are trying to help Tula with her messed up family drama and every time she thinks it is taken care of something else happens. The Gray clan has opened their home and hearts to her. Even though they weren't friendly in high school. But people and circumstances change.
And what has the sheriff done?? And the ending cliffhanger is shocking.
Can't wait for next book
Great job on this one Kay.

Tell Me Why is the latest in the Hart's Ridge series, and Taylor and her family are back. This time, Taylor is working to find out what happened to someone she holds dear. She's not getting much help, but when has that ever stopped her? In the meantime, we get to meet another new character - Tula. She's got a family of her own, and they've got their own issues. Boy, do they ever!!! Kay Bratt does not disappoint us once again with this latest installment in the series. It's got twists and turns, mystery and mayhem, friendships and some heartache. There are secrets kept, secrets uncovered, and gossip that some definitely don't want getting out..... And, of course, Kay leaves us with a doozy of a cliffhanger AGAIN. I can't wait for the next book. But while I'm waiting I think I'll go back and read all the others in the series again. Enjoy!

Lots of drama and intrigue in this book on the Hart’s Ridge Series. When a car is found abandoned and burned, Taylor is devastated to learn the victim is Quig. They met when Taylor was working undercover in a women’s prison. Taylor felt like Quig was working to get her life straight to make a future for her children. Discoveries and disappointments keep Taylor continuing to investigate.

The second story line is when Tula Rosa Skaggs returns to town, to her dysfunctional family. The Hart’s extend friendship to Tula Rose and give her a place to stay.

With Taylor working to solve the mystery around Quig’s death, who will be involved?

The dual story lines will definitely keep you turning the pages
To see what happens next.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

The Hart's Ridge series just gets better and better. This book, number 14, in the series, focuses on the solving of a murder by Taylor Gray and Deputy Shane Weaver. The body is a person Taylor and her family befriended, a person who was setting her life straight. The circumstances lead Taylor and Shane to an investigation of the Skaggs family, a family where violence is second nature, right down to the foul-mouthed matriarch. Tula Carrington, formerly Tula Rose Skaggs, one of 2 Skaggs daughters, has come home from California to help out her youngest brother, Waylon and ends up embroiled in the family issues.
Tell Me Why will keep you reading as Kay Bratt skillfully weaves a story of small town corruption and deceit.

Kay Bratt has written yet another compelling story in the Hart's Ridge series. I always enjoy how she includes both growth in the relationships between the members of the Gray family and a discrete mystery that is solved by the end of the book. When i finish a book i the Hart's Ridge series, I'm often left with a bit of a wish that the "extra" characters will make another appearance in a subsequent installment. "Tell Me Why" is different only in that I have an even stronger desire than usual to know what's next, especially for Tula. As for the Gray family, I'm excited to see their journey continue...will we spend more time with Jo next time? Thank you, once again, Kay for an amazing read.

Kay Bratt has done it again in Book #14 of her Hart’s Ridge series, Tell Me Why. I was lucky to receive the ARC of this book.

Again, we follow Taylor Grey, now a private investigator with her husband Sam, as she traverses through rumors, hidden fears, shady businesses and dangerous situations to try to solve murders in the small town of Hart’s Ridge. When someone close to her is discovered in a fiery automobile in a hidden area, and then an acquaintance of that person is murdered, she has to keep her emotions calm as she follows clues throughout the investigation. Someone wants to keep the truth of corruption buried and will do anything to accomplish that end.

Full of action, emotion, and a ‘hold on to the edge of your seat’ story this has to be the best of the series yet.

This is another wonderful book in the Hart's Ridge series. Taylor got a call from Shane saying there was a burned out car with human remains. Taylor was distraught to find out the person was a friend, Quig. She had 3 children and was a former drug addict who was really trying to get her life back in order for her children. Taylor and Shane turned over every stone they could find to determine what had happened to Quig. Lots of unanswered questions with family members. Shady things were going on which they needed to find out how it related to Quig's demise. The findings will leave your head shaking. So pick up your copy today and delve into this great book to get your answers. I received an advanced free reader copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

There’s no clean line between family and duty-only the blur of what you’re willing to lose for each.

Tell Me Why is book 14 in the Hart’s Ridge series and I devoured it in a day. Could not put it down! This is an amazing series and I look forward to each new book.
I always enjoy a visit with the Gray family.
Taylor has turned in her badge and with her husband Sam are now Private Investigators.
Taylor gets called to the scene of a burned car where a body was found inside. The body found is Quig, who had been working hard to turn her life around.
Tula Skaggs has returned to Hart’s Ridge to help her youngest brother. As well as care for her ailing mother who is difficult and has a foul mouth. A truly dysfunctional family. Tula’s family are not exactly up standing residents in Hart’s Ridge.
Shady business, danger, twists, secrets revealed, greed, corruption, revenge.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

There’s a new plot twist in Hart’s Ridge! Taylor has turned in her badge but finds herself investigating a mysterious death that hits very close to home.

Twisted up in a local family’s dysfunction emerges a tale of secrets, greed, and ultimately betrayal that will shake the very foundation Taylor has built her career for justice upon.

Fourteen books into her Hart’s Ridge series, Kay Bratt refreshes her readers throughout the story with subtle reminders of the past of each of the Gray family members and friends. They all come together to help another family in need, demonstrating the best of Hart’s Ridge in action.

Kay has written a great new installment of the Hart’s Ridge. Who thought the little berg of Harts Ridge could have so much going on. This time Taylor’s on the case of Quig one of her friends from prison she’s found burned in her car everyone suspects Quig has relapsed on drugs again but not Taylor. Quig was getting her life together to regain the custody of her children. Taylor jumps on the chance to clear her name. This will require a lot of dangerous investigation with her old friend Shane. A very previous family is involved in what ever is going on. Lots of people and situations keep this book moving along. This is a mystery with a very surprising ending.

I have learned to expect the unexpected with Kay's books. Quig, who we met in an earlier book, is getting her life back together, for her children. She's on the straight and narrow path, or is she? This story centers around Quig and the discovery of what happened along her pathway.
Pulling for the underdog is embedded in my DNA, and I wish nothing but the best, for those who struggle against the odds. This book touched my heartstrings in a big way! Kay has included several characters who are worthy of our cheers, as well as several who I couldn't help but wish they were hit with an awakening.
Thank you Kay, for this sneak peek. I love this series and I'm so glad it will continue!
