Hotter than Hell

Devil Wears Nada

Rate this book
He fell out of the sky naked, smug, and gorgeous enough to stop time—or at least traffic.

Naturally, I assumed he was some half-feral fashion influencer having a breakdown. LA’s full of them.

Turns out he’s not just vain—he’s literally Vanity. A demon prince, banished to Earth without his powers, his wardrobe, or any sense of personal boundaries.

He refuses to wear polyester.

He flirts like it’s a competitive sport.

And every time he gets turned on, my studio mirrors shatter like they’ve seen too much.

Now I’ve got a narcissistic hellspawn draped in my finest silks, strutting around my workroom like it’s his throne room, and whispering things that make me want to sin all over the cutting table.

I should throw him out.

Instead, I’m dressing him up just to see how fast I can peel him back down again.

Callie is a romance author who believes every love story deserves a happy ending — and a little heat along the way. Known for her lighthearted, swoony, and steamy novels, she delights in creating characters who make readers laugh, blush, and believe in love. When she’s not writing, Callie can be found hunting for the perfect vintage teacup, baking wildly over-decorated cupcakes, and choreographing impromptu kitchen dance parties to 80s pop hits. She lives with an ever-growing collection of romance paperbacks, a mischievous cat named Biscuit, and a firm conviction that love — like sprinkles — makes everything better.

DNF 45%. 17th March, 2026. This started off like the perfect demon story and then completely fell apart becuz of time skips ruining the relationship again. Their entire emotional bond happens off page, and i just can’t deal with that any more. How did i end up picking up back to back 2 books that have major relationship developments done all off page??

If you want to sell a lust-to-love story, you have to show those moments where it begins to change. You can’t skip all of it and expect me to just accept that they’re now emotionally coming close. No matter how sweet they get later, it feels unearned becuz it’s built on scenes that were never there.
➤➤Instead show me how Van started to control his powers, show me the 1st time he caressed Lucas. Show me them eating together, spending time, anything. Show me why Lucas’ heart would flutter. Don’t keep those important moments behind the veil!!

It has some good stuff which i must mention them first:
➤Designer and the demon Prince of Vanity who fell from the sky. There's insta lust and Van chooses him as his human pet. Van helps Lucas with his designs and customers, helping his struggling business. He becomes Lucas' muse. They fit perfectly since they're both into beauty.

➤The book shines in the sex department, no doubt. There are 3 scenes so far, first one at 15%, and wow… so hot. It’s detailed, and instead of just telling us Van is responsive, it actually shows it. Great foreplay too. You can feel how desperately into each other they are. And Van’s a Loud boi. 😏 All 3 scenes were good to read but i wished there were more places and variety. But even here, there’s a frustrating time skip. Suddenly it’s been a week and they’ve been having regular sex… all off page. And Lucas just teases it by listing all the places they’ve done it. Like??? Give me an actual scene then?? We get the same sex twice on the cutting table and once in a supply closet. That’s it.
The tight heat of him was incredible, but what really got me was his reaction. Van threw his head back with a cry of pure shock and pleasure. His entire body trembled, and the overhead light exploded in a shower of sparks.
“Holy fuck!” I gasped, instinctively covering him with my body to protect him from the falling glass.
“Yes!” he cried out, seemingly oblivious to the destruction. “Holy fuck indeed! More, Lucas, more!”

❌The biggest issue is the constant time skips with lots happening off page. From their 1st sex → one week later when they're regular sex partners→ 1 month later when Lucas has already made him garments & Val has tamed his powers. The shift from lust to blooming romance just… happens somewhere we weren’t invited to. What, we as readers don't deserve to see that or something? And that’s the problem.

❌We go from pure lust on page to suddenly being told they’ve spent a month building something “dangerously close to domestic bliss.” Where?? i didn’t see any of it. Did you??
All i saw was physical attraction and hookups. Don’t get me wrong, it has some genuinely hot moments. But.. im just told by Lucas that they've “gotten close.” If said closeness was supposedly growing in that missing time, then i have zero reason to believe in it. Why should i?? If im only shown their sexual side, im not going to believe there's more that just lust involved, no matter how soft they get. Never saw any of this:
For a moment I was tempted. In the month since Van had literally fallen into my life, we’d established a routine that was dangerously close to domestic bliss. Days spent working side by side in my studio—me designing and sewing, Van providing increasingly valuable input and charming clients. Nights spent exploring every possible configuration of our bodies, gradually reducing the property damage as Van gained more control of his powers.

♦️Look here, apparently one of the ways Van shows his affection is by kissing Lucas' palms. By the time Van is doing this, it’s already a habit. Something we’re told started happening “recently” after the fact. But we never saw that shift. We never saw these develop for them to react like this. Ughh
He caught my hand, pressing a kiss to my palm in that way he’d taken to doing recently—a gesture that felt almost reverent.

????? By the time we see this, it's already their natural stuff. So why should i even...? Ugh it’s raising my BP. i stopped here.

Here's Callie Colby's "Devil Wears Nada." It's the fourth book in her Hotter Than Hell series.

["He fell out of the sky naked, smug, and gorgeous enough to stop time—or at least traffic.

Watching Hell's embodiment of vanity and narcissism fall in love with someone that isn't himself? Far more adorable than imagined. Plus all of the mirrors and reflective surfaces exploding when someone (*cough* Lucas *cough*) makes him feel Big Feelings? Such the opposite of what anyone would assume Vanity would act, adding to the cute factor.

Then there's Lucas, little human Lucas who managers to make one of hell's princes fall impossibly fast and impossibly deep. A demon who is supposed to be selfish on all of the levels, cares so much, using his very limited powers to help Lucas.

my favorite in the series

You know how sometimes when you’re consuming silly media, you come across something profound? That’s how I feel about this book. The ultimate choice they have in the end is both difficult & poignant. The stakes are high. I hope you read this book & I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
