The Ascension Rite is over, but the trials are just beginning. A new ruler has been selected, but Olympus now balances on the precipice of war — again. The Crown has chosen, but the gods have not. Each must decide where their loyalties lie: with Olympus’ true ruler? Or with the god they never saw coming?
Nyssa and Caelus — forever altered by what they endured in the Rite — must work together to defeat their enemies, their own minds, and even time itself. Just when their burdens seem more than they can carry, Fate whispers, “Oh, and, one more thing.”
Having now read this book, I can honestly say it delivered the kind of emotional intensity and high-stakes storytelling that I love in fantasy. What really stood out to me was how character-driven the story felt. Nyssa and Caelus aren’t just dealing with outside threats — they’re dealing with what the Rite did to them, and that emotional and psychological weight carries through the story in a way that makes everything feel more personal and more intense.
I especially loved the tension throughout the book. The idea that the Crown has chosen but the gods have not creates this constant feeling that everything is fragile and could fall apart at any moment. The political tension, shifting loyalties, and sense that war is always just around the corner kept the stakes high, but it never felt like the story lost its focus on the characters and their relationships.
The dynamic between Nyssa and Caelus was one of my favorite parts. Their shared past and the way they have to rely on each other, even when they’re struggling with their own minds and burdens, made their relationship feel complicated and real. It wasn’t just about defeating enemies — it was about survival, trust, and carrying the weight of what they’ve been through.
And that feeling that fate isn’t finished with them yet — that there’s always “one more thing” — really stayed with me after finishing the book. It made the story feel bigger than just one conflict, like everything is building toward something even greater.
Overall, this was an emotional, tense, and character-driven fantasy that I really enjoyed. If you like fantasy with powerful characters, heavy emotional stakes, political tension, and relationships that feel just as important as the battles, this is definitely a book worth reading.
Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released on April 1st called, Blood of Olympus. This is about Nyssa, the daughter of Hades and the son of Zeus, Caelus. This is book 2 in this series and it picks up right where book 1 left off. Nyssa and Caelus are trying to fathom everything that happened at the end of the last book. Some gods agree with the crown and some do not, so now all the gods are taking sides and preparing for war. And as much as Nyssa and Caelus prepare, they are not prepared for all that's coming. I didn't want to give too much of the story away above or spoil anything for this book or the first book. So let me just say if you love books about gods, Greek mythology, deadly trials and war, fighting for a crown, magic powers, mythical creatures, fated mates/soul bonds, the best banter and humor, as well as a romance that just keeps getting better and better. Then you need to read this series!!! I'm obsessed with these books! The world building is absolutely incredible and so easy to imagine. The characters have so much humor and growth and heart. The storyline is so strong and absolutely captivating! I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to wait for the next book, I'm already dying to get back to this world and find out what happens next!! ❤️📚
Thank you to the author for this ARC of Blood of Olympus, in exchange for an honest review.
I was able to get an ARC of Blood of Olympus and I am so thankful I did! It took me longer to read than I wanted because life was busy but I HAD to steal away moments to read because it is that good.
I felt Nyssa’s grief, I felt her love, I felt her turmoil in this one. I was biting my nails with anticipation, sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next shoe to drop.
I need more of this story, just like I did when I finished the first in this series. The characters are so good, the story is perfection and it will make you feel things. This is the perfect series for anyone that loves Greek mythology.
I loved the beginning despite not remembering exactly what happened in book 1. There was a promise about breaking, about a prophecy and about not being swallowed in grief. There is humor and love that is so sweet. Oh I did like the mythology tales that twined into the story when meeting new characters like echo.... Is that tangent going somewhere? However every time she starts to actually do something she Is knocked down..I don't think anything ever goes right for her other than finally hooking up with MMc ... actually that doesn't go right the first time either.... She gets proposed to with vomit involved.... Funny but not quite right. The main characters kept secrets from one another the whole book - she was emotionally unavailable at the beginning which I get with prior book actions but then he has new powers but they are not talking about it ever- and then hinted at having war winning secrets and not delivering. There are so many fights but expected. I liked the neat monsters but why is it a surprise there are apparently lots of titans loose? Ends on a total bummer and not sure it fulfilled anything hinted at in chapter one. Also the random use of reefed, like six times, why not just use the word twisted?

The Blood of Olympus is the second book in The Hades Trials series, and after that rude cliffhanger in book one, we went into this one fully prepared to have our emotions toyed with.
This book delivers it all — grief and healing as characters navigate the loss of loved ones, the chaotic comfort of a found family, and some top-tier banter… including an impressive number of dick-related jokes at the expense of one character who deserves every bit of it.
The world continues to expand in ways that keep you guessing, with twists and turns that sneak up on you when you least expect it.
And the ending? Another cliffhanger. So now we wait (impatiently) for book three!
This book was epic from start to finish. Blood of Olympus delivers everything I love in fantasy, Greek mythology, powerful magic, political intrigue, intense battles, and a romance that keeps getting stronger even while the world is on the brink of chaos.
Nyssa is truly stepping into her power as Queen of Olympus, making bold decisions, building a new council, and preparing for the war that’s coming. The stakes feel massive, the action never slows down, and the mythology woven throughout the story makes the world feel rich and immersive.
I loved the balance between the darker moments and the humour, especially the banter between Aros and his twin sister Evie. Their dynamic adds so much personality to the story, and Aros’ completely unfiltered commentary had me laughing more than once.
If you love mythology-inspired fantasy with epic stakes, strong characters, and a swoony romance, this one absolutely delivers.
Tropes & Vibes ⚡ Greek mythology inspired 👑 Powerful female ruler ⚔️ War for the throne 💫 Fated bond / soul bond ❤️ Epic fantasy romance 🐉 Mythical creatures 🛡 Found family 🔥 High-stakes battles ✨ Magic training & power growth 😏 Sibling banter & comic relief
Overall, this was an intense, emotional, and action-packed continuation of the series, and I’m already desperate for the next book.
I was so fortunate to be selected as an ARC reader for Blood of Olympus. I absolutely loved book 1, Crown of Olympus and this sequel was everything I could want and more. After the devastating events of book 1, our gods are not in a great place in this book. With war already upon them they must scramble to find allies and help wherever they can amidst treachery and betrayal. The themes of found family and unending love are very strong in this book. The connection between Nyssa and Caelus is ever growing and definitely one of the highlights of the story. Even though this book is focused on the war, there is so much humanity and humor that really lifts the story from being too heavy. That is not to say there are not heavy moments, there definitely are. This ends on a monumental cliffhanger that has me begging for book 3. This was a wonderful continuation of the story and I cannot wait to see what trials the characters will have to endure in the next book.

Ratings: 🌟Stars 5/5 - I loved it and I will read it again and continue the series. Living rent free in my head. 🌶️Spice: 3/5 - 3+ open door scenes and prevalent sexual language 🗡️Violence: 4/5 - war, acts of war, bodily damage/dismemberment, death 🏔️Cliffhanger: 4/5 - a wtf moment and lots of uncertainty for the characters, character are in peril
Quotes:
“Reminds me of the time Hades eclipsed the Olympian sun for an entire month just so Zeus lost his tan.”
“Even gods can break.”
“Mortal casualties are always the first to fall in a war among gods… and they are always the heaviest to carry.”
“I don’t think I actually needed that visual, Vel.” “If I have to see it, so do you.”
This series has me irrevocably undone. Seriously, I have not emotionally recovered from what these books keep putting me through. I have been (impatiently) waiting for this second installment and I can absolutely promise that it did not disappoint. Kate's ability to immerse you into a world full of love, sorrow, trials, scheming and more is next level. If I could give this 10 stars I absolutely would.
Let's talk characters -
Nyssa is such a multi-dimensional character. We begin with this all encompassing sorrow for all that she has lost and its internal battle with all that she has kept and gained as well. I loved that we were shown that grief isn't a straight path and that it has its ebbs and flows to it as well. That's not to say that it is the focal point of the book, trust me there are plenty of laughs to be had, but I appreciated that the grief that Nyssa carries was embraced rather than shoved under the proverbial rug. Her growth in this book also continues to come in leaps and bounds. She started by not wanting to be adorned with any crowns and throughout the book learns that she has what it takes to be the ruler that all of the realms need. She makes mistakes, just like anyone else, but you can tell that she sincerely tries her best to be the best for everyone no matter the cost.
Caelus is just flat out amazing. Again with the grief stuff - he was also put through hell and back (iykyk) last book and he's clearly still carrying the weight of that here. I really appreciated getting to see more of where he is emotionally after everything he endured, especially as he begins to step into what his role looks like now alongside Nyssa. I do wish we had spent a little more time inside his perspective with this though, because it felt like we were only just starting to scratch the surface of everything he’s still carrying with him.
Now, these two together - absolute fire and chemistry!! We only had the tip of the iceberg in book 1 and the author did a fantastic job in bringing their romance forward in book 2. First off, they are both just so beyond in love but at the same time are in such a "Bambi" stage because they've never had this type of relationship before. So watching them go through the twists and bumps like any relationship was refreshing and realistic. I truly enjoyed watching their relationship grow into this beautiful extension of trust and understanding between them rather than just something magical tying them together. The introduction of their internal bond is also chefs kiss! I love the conversations they have and how the things they send down the bond just bring them closer together and allow two relatively "dumb in love" people to have a more intimate and flourishing relationship.
And these side characters - obsessed!! We got a lot of them in the previous book, but focusing more on a select few (and some really great new ones too - Evie especially!!) gave us a lot more personal time with them and allowed us to become more invested in them as well. I feel like they got as equal of an opportunity to be involved as our main characters and it just made the story so much better.
Listen, this whole book we're learning about the ramifications of the choices that have been made and wow were they doozies! I am not even close to being recovered from that ending and I'm not thinking I will be for quite some time to be honest. I fully turned to my coworkers at the end of this book and said "I have just been personally victimized by this book and I do not know how to feel about it." The twists and turns that you are put through will leave you whirling for sure, but more importantly will have you anxious for more - which I definitely am and will be until the next installment is in my hands!
My only qualm in this whole entire book is that sometimes the banter "bantered" too hard and I had a hard time following, prompting me to reread a few passages over again for clarity. But, this was minor and probably just a comprehension thing for me.
So - all of this to say that if you are a fan of a romantasy book full of quirky and intriguing characters, an immersive and intricate plotline, and emotional stakes that absolutely refuse to let you go, this is for you!!
This book was honestly phenomenal. Like genuinely insane. It deserves more than five stars because I physically cannot rate it high enough. There is something about Kate’s writing that is completely addictive. At this point I’m convinced she slipped crack into these pages because I could not put it down!
Her writing is sharp, emotional, and completely immersive. She blends rage, grief, betrayal, and romance so seamlessly that every moment feels intentional and deeply felt. One second the prose feels quiet and reflective, and the next it hits you with something devastating. The story slowly pulls you in like shadows closing around you until you’re completely consumed by it.
This book also handles grief in a way that doesn’t feel overdramatic or glossed over, but instead it feels real. Losing someone you’ve known your whole life and then still having to function, still having responsibilities, still having a world that doesn’t stop for you… that was written so well. The numbness, the anger, the disconnect from everyone around you. It felt honest, and that’s what made it hit so hard.
Nyssa absolutely proves in this book why the Crown of Olympus chose her to rule three realms. She is power. She is control. She is barely contained fury wrapped in leather and shadow. This book was feminine rage done so right. There are moments where you can feel that she could quite literally dismantle realms if she wanted to and honestly, I would support her. But what makes her so compelling is that she isn’t untouchable. The cracks show. The grief seeps in. The exhaustion weighs on her. And then she still stands up and leads anyway.
Also, the mountain lizard breakdown was so real. I have never related to a powerful god more in my life. Sometimes it’s not the war. Sometimes it’s the stupid lizards!
Then there is Caelus… The fact that he died and came back and is now trying to understand what that means for him. The feeling of being slightly out of place in your own body and power. The guilt. The sense that you’ve changed in ways you can’t articulate and watching him come to terms with that while also carrying guilt over certain revelations (if you know, you KNOW) was painful in the best way. He keeps surprising me, especially with the unexpected connections he forms in this book.
The tension between Nyssa and Caelus in this book is delicious. It’s not just romantic tension—it’s layered with history, trauma, loyalty, unspoken fear of losing each other again. The looks across rooms. The conversations across their bond. The moments where one of them almost says something and doesn’t. I was internally screaming the entire time.
This book also introduces some new side characters, and one of those side characters is Evie, who has officially become a new favourite, and unofficially my new wife. The moment she opened her mouth, I was completely gone. She’s confident, sharp, and fully capable of handling herself. Also her admiration for Nyssa makes perfect sense, because I too, would risk it all for Nyssa!
Then there’s Aros, who somehow manages to get even better in this book. He really comes into his own, and his wit and banter remain some of the absolute best in the series. This man flirts, teases, and completely steals every scene he’s in, and I am 100% obsessed.
The ending of this book was diabolical. Like, I hope you brought tissues, therapy, and a punching bag level diabolical.
What exactly am I supposed to do after that ending? Just sit here and function normally? Wait patiently for the next book while my soul is actively breaking? Because at this point I will absolutely be sending Kate my therapy bill. Yes, I chose to read this willingly, but Kate still woke up and chose violence. She knew exactly what she was doing with this book and I’m fairly certain I will never emotionally recover—and yet somehow it also makes me want to immediately reread it? Make that make sense!
This book will have you laughing, crying, screaming, and immediately plotting how to survive the next one—while also demanding it be released yesterday.
*Please note, I was provided with an ARC version of this book by the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review*
Well, Kate has done it again. I screamed incomprehensibly, I got hot under the collar, I laughed, I had my heart in my mouth and I desperately, desperately need to know what happens next. And if I was a crier, yes, I would have bawled. This book doesn't make a misstep and it's an absolute privilege to have been given the chance to read this early.
All the characters you loved the first time round are back and, if possible, even better. Nyssa is truly a Queen in every sense of the word; Caelus is somehow even more attractive than before (the hint of darkness really does it for me!); Aros is turning the flirt up to 11, and even Aph holds her own during a book that's heavily skewed towards the violence of war (as the name might suggest). It's the fact that every single character is completely fleshed out and fully corporeal in my mind that I find the most impressive; new and old alike, you are completely surrounded as soon as you start page one. And Velira is 1000% channelling some Andarna energy here, so even the animal / mythical creature sidekicks are bringing their A game!
Equally though, Kate is not known for collecting the tears of her readers for nothing! The emotional intensity of this book is mindblowing; if possible, it may even pack more of a punch than book one! There are moments of gentleness that weirdly almost make you want to cry happy tears and start to wrap a bandage around your broken heart, but just when you think you're safe... you're not. The descriptions of battle in particular are incredibly cinematic (especially when you've got Velira's dragon' eye view!) and all it needed was a rousing soundtrack and I would honestly have believed I was in a cinema watching the chaos unfold, the images are that clear. That goes for the entire book TBH! This also means that the moments of pain and loss, whether they directly affect our main cast or not, are deeply, deeply moving.
I really, enjoyed the relationship development between Nyssa and Caelus; watching them lean into one another and their bond tighten is beautiful. They truly do feel like a pair (nothing about their dynamic feels forced at all), and while Caelus does display those protective instincts and want to run to Nyssa's rescue, fight by her side and so on, there is never a moment where he doesn't give her agency and watch with awe as she takes the lead. It makes him an even more incredible character than he was before, and then when he does get to be the big strong man scooping her up into his arms... yeah, he's 1000% on the book boyfriend list after this book!
It's really hard to describe just how gripping this book is without spoiling something, but needless to say every moment comes with twists and turns you won't expect, right up to the very. Last. Page. Some are beautiful; some are terrifying. But all make this a book you cannot and will not want to put down.
Welcome back to Olympus, where Zeus was murdered a year ago, and now the other Gods are competing for the seat. With a newly crowned ruler, everything changed, and not for the better. In Kate Asher’s Blood of Olympus, the gods are at war, and the humans are in the middle, taking their fight to their realm. Was this all part of the prophecy? What on earth are the Fates doing? Well, one thing is for certain, and it’s to remember, even gods can break.
The story begins right where the first one left off. Nyssa has won the competition and is now ruler of all three realms, but the joys of winning only lasted a few seconds. The events of her coronation have led to Kronos escaping Tartarus, along with who knows what, and Hera has joined him. Now, our Olympian Gods must decide which side they fight for in another Titan war.
The drama and the plot line in this story has been amazing to follow along and been a joy to be on this journey. With more action and drama in the storyline, it'll have you glued to the page, wondering what our plucky group of gods are planning, and if they'll succeed. Even amongst the action, there were still moments of joy, happiness, love, and even laughter. Even as our characters are gods with power beyond our imagination, they still are reminded of their inherent humanity. Everything they do reminds them that they still go through the emotions as their human counterparts. What stood out to me was Nyssa dealing with her grief. As someone who has lost someone recently, reading those words made me feel like I’m not alone. Putting into words the maelstrom of feelings I’ve had has been cathartic.
Let’s be honest, the inner dialogue Nyssa and Caelus have both with each other, and with their bonded companions are great. You get to see a more sassy Velaria and Lykos, companions willing to tell you straight, but be the first to die for you. The connection everyone has with one another is deep, and helps you emotionally connect with them. Aside from the inner dialogue, it was great to see the different friendships and relationships between the gods develop, and see more of these gods and their character. They’re more than being the children of primals. And even the primal gods will show how much wisdom they have, and how much they’re willing to sacrifice for what they love.
With the way this story ended, one can only assume that there will be another one to continue our story, and see how this prophecy will come to fruition.
I received an advance reader copy of this book from Kate Asher for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. My intentions are to write feedback that reflects my genuine thoughts and is written with the book’s genre and target audience in mind. I aim to review fairly and respectfully, focusing on the story’s purpose.
This series is officially my favorite (and the best) Greek mythology-based fantasy ever! Truly, you will have to pry the title of best Greek fantasy from my cold, dead, Hades-and-Persephone-loving heart.👀😍
I thought Crown of Olympus left me reeling… Blood of Olympus just knocked me well and truly off Earth’s axis. Kate Asher came for our hearts and souls in book two! 😱😭 And I loved every second of it, but I am absolutely not okay.
Book two in the Hades Trials brings more of everything. More drama, more tension, more heart-stopping battles, and wayyyy more heartache. Having to say goodbye to one of my favorite characters (not once, but twice). 😭 (Truly diabolical, Kate, and completely unnecessary!) I really had hope that he would be staying, only to have that hope well and truly shattered.
There is so much to love about this book that I fear I won’t be able to capture it in one review, no matter how many words I use. 😅
The worldbuilding is so captivating and all-consuming that it makes you want to climb into this book and live there (even knowing my unfit self wouldn’t survive longer than five minutes in a realm at war 🤣). The storyline is layered and spellbinding, with twists and turns that feel like you’re on one very exhilarating theme park ride. The tension in every chapter is relentless and nerve-shredding in the best way. (I white-knuckled my Kindle so much I swear it breathed a sigh of relief when I turned the last page). 🤭
My favorite thing about this book is the humor. From the dedication, to the banter, to the numerous jokes about Poseidon’s… um… appendage 🤣. Kate’s humor is unrivaled. The banter is snarky and witty, the jokes are scandalous and hilarious, and the comedic timing is perfection. It brings the perfect balance of humor to all that tension.
I loved every single thing about book two, from Caelus and Nyssa’s bond (both with each other and with their bonded) to the lovable side characters, to the battles that had me on the edge of my seat. I also absolutely loved that we got a cameo from my two favorite Greek legends, Hades and Persephone. 😍 I completely bawled my eyes out during those scenes. This is a story that will take you on an unforgettable ride and is a must-read for Greek mythology lovers.
Thank you to Kate Asher for the opportunity to be on your ARC team and have early access to this thrilling and unputdownable sequel. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
OHMYGOD!!! The way I DEVOURED this book is unreal! The moment I started reading, I was back in this world and I didn't want to leave. The characters are just so rich and beautifully written.
I absolutely fell back in love with Nyssa and Caelus' love and relationship. The absolute hardships they have to endure made me want to cry. But the love and devotion (especially from Caelus) was just so beautiful and the way he would do ANYTHING for Nyssa is just so swoon-worthy. And the way that Nyssa just allows herself to let him in and share her grief and pain just brings them together in a beautiful way. Nyssa is a bad*ss and Caelus has absolutely no problem with that. Their absolute attraction for each other is unmatched, they are just adorable. And there's a scene towards the end that is so DELICIOUSLY spicy. And of course there's a moment where my heart was just so happy for them (no spoilers 😂)
Eros is of course the comedic relief, he has me giggling and kicking my feet just at his antics. And then you get to see another side to him!!! The devoted and fierce loyal friend who would do anything to keep Nyssa safe (Caelus too, though maybe begrudgingly). And the introduction to a family member of his was an absolute treat!!!!
I also had a few teary moments when a certain character came back into the mix, just briefly. His deep love for Nyssa and bond with Caelus gave the book that added layer of beauty in grief. He was an integral part of Nyssa 's journey and this book became complete with his scenes. And be prepared for the tissues because there is a death that comes so unexpected, I was just shocked and SADDENED.
But besides the funny moments, the appendage jokes, and the lighthearted banter, there is also a looming war and Kronos plans on leaving destruction. Kate's writing of the battle scenes were absolutely vivid and haunting. You could feel the dread and the anguish the characters all faced. And the cliffhanger of an ending???? That ending is so brutal with little light at the end of the tunnel but it makes me want book 3 immediately!
Highly, highly recommend this book. Just beautifully written, amazing characters, and a devotion of one golden god that leaves you wanting more.
"Even gods can break." . What else can I say besides Kate Asher has done it again! Book Two in "The Hades Trials" series picked up right where it left off, and then it kept running. . At the end of Crown of Olympus many things were revealed. We had our new ruler, we experienced heartbreak when not one, but two main characters died, we were shook when betrayals were revealed, when threats appeared, and we most definitely felt the love between our Golden & Nightshade. . Blood of Olympus is an action packed book that navigates grief, love, forgiveness, support, betrayal, loss and humour, packaged up into a entertaining story about a war between gods, primals & mortals. We get to see the relationship between Nyssa & Caelus go from strength to strength, witnessing their bond growing as Caelus flexes all the green flags we want to see in a MMC. We have Nyssa, navigating a new position of power, wrestling with her grief & inner darkness, all the while ultimately being the biggest badass FMC that a Greek gods book could have. Plus we have ALL of the characters: Ares, Persephone, Evadne, Athena, Apollo etc etc. Oh wait, don't forget Poseidong. . Honestly, this book was great. I devoured it and found it very hard to put down. Be prepared for the temptation to throw your kindle/book at more than one point, and that cliff-hanger will have you hanging on for the next instalment. How authors come up with these wonderful ideas will never not astound me. Well done Kate, you should be so so proud!
I am a VERY proud ARC reader for this book. Blood of Olympus releases April 1st, 2026! -------------------------------------------
Quotes. "Nyssa had possessed me from the moment I laid eyes on her. She had etched her name into my heart the second her eyes locked with mine, and had woven herself neatly into my soul"
"I am completely and irrevocably in love with you. Nyssa."
"Within that gaze was something that he had known, even before I did: that darkness could be beautiful, too."
"I'll see you soon, Golden. I miss you already, Nightshade."
"To men, desire tended to slip into entitlement the moment they decided it should. Too often, their victims were expected to take it like a blessing, instead of the violation it really was."
"I could not stop loving her even if I tried. Even if I could somehow unbind our souls, I would not, for where she goes, I will follow. And when, one day, her heart stops beating, I take comfort in the fact that mine will too, so that it will never have to know even a beat without her in the world."
It starts right where we left off in Crown of Olympus. I liked that they’re dealing with the aftermath of her decisions and that they’re not just brushed over. For this book, we get an entirely new map of the mortal realm, which is interesting, but it is also a lot of new information with all the new names, countries, their customs, and loyalties. At times it was a bit overwhelming, but thankfully I take notes like my life depends on it.
The story also still made me laugh, although the focus for a large part was on dick jokes, which ironically enough mostly centered on not being large at all. There were a few times that it felt a bit out of place. Like, we’re literally fighting for our lives, how is your mind still in the gutter? I’d be more concerned with keeping my mind attached to the rest of my body.
It dragged a little for me in the middle, but that really was due to the onslaught of names and geography. The story itself really is enticing, and I’m very curious to see how it will continue.
If you want to stay spoiler-free, this is your exit. Spoilers ahead.
Nyssa bringing Caelus back in book one already had huge consequences. Knowing that, I’m very curious (and slightly worried) about how she’s going to fulfil her promise to Orpheus to bring Eurydice back, because doing the exact same thing again doesn’t exactly sound like a solid plan.
Also, Zeus returning was not something I expected. I did wonder about him at some point, like is he among the shades on the Isle? But when Nyssa and Caelus thought there was a traitor in their midst, and then Kronos at the end says he was one step ahead all along because, once again, he had someone only loyal to him in their midst, I was expecting actual betrayal. Someone close to them that would shock me to my core. But then it’s Zeus… and I’m like, “but it had to be someone in their midst….”
At the moment, all I can think of is that Zeus was among them in the shape of someone else. I’m really curious to see how that will be explained. All I can say now is… sucks to be Hera.
Thank you to the author for the Advanced Reader's Copy. This review is voluntary and my honest opinion ♡
When I first saw this book posted about, I felt like this book was right up my alley. It has so many cool elements and I was so giddy when I found out I received this ARC. Unfortunately, I do not feel like this book was for me.
My favorite element of this series has to be the amount of strong, snarky female characters. That energy, especially when they get along, will almost always pull me to a story and I think the author did that really well here with her characters. The male characters were fun and intriguing as well but the women just shined so much here. Nyssa never really grew on me much between books 1 and 2 besides loving her sass. I think a lot of fantasy books try to straddle the line between heroine and damsel in distress to give some drama to the romance of the book and I just find that this one goes back and forth between the lines too much for my taste. I am quite picky about romance in books and I just didn't feel that their romance appealed to me much. I was much more interested in all the other various relationships going on (friendships, allies, familial, etc).
The writing kept a lot of that tension from book one while raising the stakes more and more. There is excellent world-building and so many details that pull this whole world together. It is clear the author has put A LOT of thought and research into this and it really accentuates her work perfectly. I still felt like I didn't get to see much of the author's voice in this one but I was entertained. I think the pace was fairly even and kept the tension intact. The plot held less direction without the trials as a clear guide but I didn't really mind the plot either, it had just as many turning points and twists.
I am very appreciative of receiving this ARC, but I do believe this work is for other readers and therefore will not be continuing with this series.
Blood will fall… but who will reign? And honestly? This book delivers on that promise.
Blood of Olympus throws you straight back into the aftermath of the Ascension Rite, and from the first chapter, there’s this constant sense that everything is teetering on the edge. Olympus isn’t stable, loyalties are shifting, and no one—not even the characters—feels safe. That tension is one of the book’s biggest strengths.
Nyssa and Caelus absolutely carry this story. They’re both fractured by what they’ve endured, and watching them navigate not just external enemies but their own internal battles adds so much depth. Their dynamic feels raw and complicated—less about perfect romance and more about survival, trust, and figuring out who they are after everything they’ve been through.
The world-building continues to expand in a way that feels bigger and darker than the first book. The politics of Olympus, the uncertainty around the “chosen” ruler, and the looming threat of war all layer together to create a story that feels intense and high-stakes without losing its emotional core.
What really stood out to me was the pacing. It has that “just one more chapter” energy—every time you think you’ll pause, something shifts, a new twist drops, or the stakes get raised again. There’s also a nice balance between action and quieter, character-driven moments, which keeps the story from feeling overwhelming.
If I had to nitpick, it’s that sometimes the weight of everything happening—war, fate, power struggles—can feel almost relentless. But honestly, that also fits the tone of the story. This isn’t meant to be light and easy; it’s meant to feel like the world is cracking open.
Overall, Blood of Olympus is a gripping continuation that leans into darker themes, complex relationships, and the cost of power. If you loved the first book, this one raises the stakes in every possible way—and leaves you desperate to see what happens next, because even gods can break
Blood of Olympus by Kate Asher completely wrecked me… and I loved every second of it.
First of all - KATE ASHER, WHY?! Those final 100 pages were emotional warfare. I need snacks, silence, and at least 3–5 business days to recover 😭
This sequel launches straight back into the chaos, and honestly? It doesn’t let you breathe. The stakes are higher, the emotions sharper, and the world feels even more immersive. With the Crown choosing a new ruler, everything fractures - loyalties, alliances, and hearts.
Nyssa’s journey is a standout. Watching her navigate grief, power, and love felt raw and deeply human. She is every inch a queen - fierce, vulnerable, and impossible not to root for. And Caelus? Somehow even better this time round. Their relationship development is beautifully done - equal, grounded, and full of quiet strength.
The found family continues to shine (one of my favourite elements), and the character work across the board is exceptional. Everyone feels vivid and fully realised - old favourites and new additions alike. Aros brings the charm (turned up to 11), and the fierce female energy in this book? Absolutely unmatched 👏
But let’s talk about the emotional damage. Kate Asher does not hold back. There are moments of softness that almost lull you into a false sense of security… and then the devastation hits. Hard. The balance of tenderness and brutality is what makes this story so powerful.
Her writing is immersive, sharp, and emotionally charged - blending grief, rage, love, and sacrifice seamlessly. It pulls you under slowly until you’re completely consumed.
And that ending… what exactly am I supposed to do with that? Function normally? Be patient? Absolutely not.
Kate Asher, you evil genius. I will be here, emotionally ruined, waiting for book three.
*I was kindly sent an Advance Reader’s Copy from the Author for an onset review of this book*
4.25 ⭐️
This was a great follow up to Crown of Olympus. We picked up immediately where book one finished with Nyssa and Caelus trying to recover from the events and betrayals of the trials and cope with their grief. Nyssa feels so guilty that her decisions at the end of book one have cost her someone she loves dearly and she is angry at the fates for punishing her. She is now Queen of three realms but must control the Gods she rules to ensure they can defeat Kronos and any other Titans.
Once again this book is told in dual pov. Nyssa and Caelus have embraced their soul bond and are devoted to each other but both are dealing with the consequences of their actions. Nyssa must defeat the escaped Titan and fix the arches that were destroyed!
Once again this book is action packed and fast paced with plenty of humour, drama and stand out moments. The characters are developing in their new era and roles and we get to see how supportive queen can bring out the best in people. We once again have an abundance of d*ck jokes that really cut through the tension. Nyssa really goes through it emotionally in this book and there were parts that broke me when reading.
Once again Kate shows she is a master of ending a book and it ended on such a cliffhanger and a shock I did not and could not see coming! I honestly don’t know where the story is going to go from here because team hero is in trouble! I felt that some of the action scenes were a bit hard to follow and I had to read a few things a couple of times, but I honestly can’t wait for the next instalment.
Kate once again shows she can write high stakes action that makes you cry laughing one minute and rips your heart out the next! If you want a unique Romantasy Greek mythology inspired book pick this one up!

Rating: 4.5 stars ⭐️
Kate, thank you for Nyssa and Caelus.
Blood of Olympus is the second book in “The Hades Trials” series, and it throws you straight back into Nyssa and Caelus’s world, which is becoming increasingly chaotic, emotional, and dangerous. From grief and loss to loyalty, family, and war, there is always something happening, and the story keeps moving forward at full speed.
This book is very fast paced. At times it felt like my brain was running a million kilometers an hour trying to keep up with everything that was happening. There is constant movement, constant tension, and very little time to breathe between events. Readers who enjoy very action packed stories where something is always happening will probably love this pacing.
I really enjoyed returning to this world and these characters. Nyssa and Caelus continue to grow together, and seeing their relationship develop while everything around them is falling apart was one of my favorite parts of the book.
Personally, I think there were a few moments that could have benefited from just a little more space and emotional reflection, especially after some major events. A bit more breathing room in certain scenes might have made some moments hit even harder emotionally and helped balance the very fast pacing of the story.
That being said, the last part of the book completely pulled me in. The final chapters were intense and I genuinely could not put the book down, and the ending… that damned cliffhanger…. Now I am just here waiting for book three because I need to know what happens next! 😩😩😩
Overall, this was an exciting, emotional, and very intense continuation of the series, and I am very curious to see where the story goes from here.
I read this, and then I needed time to recover from being ripped to shreds emotionally and psychologically ((which seems to be Kate’s favourite pastime - watching her readers suffer)).
Honestly, Crown of Olympus set a fantastic foundation, paving the road to this soul crushing, mind melting, visceral beauty that is Blood of Olympus. One of my favourite parts of a series is when the world opens up and we get to know more places and the workings of the whole world, not just the space which the characters occupy.
My next comment is ((don’t come after me, I’m an Aros girly through and through)) I despised Caelus in book one and couldn’t for the life of me understand his appeal 😂 this has caused many fights and much outrage. I just didn’t get it, okay? But after Blood, I’m starting to warm up to him. We get to know him much better and ((I’m trying my best to avoid spoilers here)) with the events which unfolded in this book, he really pulls through despite his pants shitting tendencies.
Plus my girl Aph gets such a glorious moment 🥀
My only advice to anyone taking this journey is … remember when we all watched Breaking Dawn and were crazy shocked when everyone got f-ed up and died in the final fight only to find out it was a vision? Well, get ready to be lost in a game of “is this war haze or is this reality?”. And yes, you’ll be screaming until the next book as you wait for answers. Better find a buddy to help carry the burden.
Welcome to the club 🐉 I ate all the cookies in a rage as I glared at Kate and wondered if hoping her socks are always mysteriously damp after visiting the bathroom was too big a curse for the crime of ripping my soul to shreds. ((Still undecided))
Keep going, Kate. The world needs more of your writing. Absolutely, devastatingly glorious 💜✨
Crown of Olympus was easily one of my top reads of 2025, so I was ecstatic to get the chance to ARC read this.
As with Crown, this has so much heart and humor, amazing characters, and an easy to understand, immersive world. Oh, and heartbreak. Because the toll for reading these amazing books are lots of tears.
Blood of Olympus starts shortly after the last book ended, with poor Nyssa in mourning, while trying to get through that grief to do what needs to be done at the beginning of a war with Kronos, and how to fix the issue of the crumbled Underworld arches. I just honestly adore her, as she is both strong AND vulnerable, with a quick wit and a bit heart. Now, she is all of that AND a triple queen needing to save the world as we know it (No pressure!).
Caelus is such a great match for her, and I love the yearning and the crackles of lightning that continue from the first book. He loves and supports not just Nyssa, but the rest of the found family, and is a force to be reckoned with! Also, he's a patient but super hot tazer boy, and gives a bit more of that spicy kind of heat now that he knows Nyssa loves him, too.
The supporting characters are such a real treat, especially Aros, Aphrodite, Velira and Lykos (the commentary from the bonded animals is some of my favorite, which is saying a lot!). It's a fairly large cast, as you would expect from a book featuring Green gods, but every voice is distinct!
I'm still not over some of the devastation here, and that ending and epilogue has me in a tailspin, but EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS!
This was an epic second book - this series just gets better and better. I absolutely love Kate’s writing style. It’s addictive and just completely draws you in. I couldn’t put this story down. This series is an absolute must if you are a fan of Greek mythology inspired fantasy. It’s emotional, action packed and full of tension right from the start. The stakes and emotions are high. Blood of Olympus starts off with our main characters reeling from the events of that cliffhanger at the end of book 1. They are having to navigate loss, grief and betrayal while dealing with court politics and preparing for the battle of their lives.
The world building is developed even further throughout this book and is so immersive and detailed. But it is the characters that bring this story to life - I just love them! Well…I love to hate some of them! They have so much depth and personality. The dynamics between all the different personalities are so well written and woven throughout the narrative.
There are darker, emotional moments in this story that will really tug at your heart strings. The lighter moments really give balance to the whole story and I laughed out loud so many times, especially at Aros. His banter and comments are just on point and I loved the addition of his twin sister.
The chemistry between Nyssa and Caelus is one of favourite parts of this series. I love the way they support each other and rely on each other despite the fact they are both having to deal with their own emotional burdens and betrayals. I’m rooting for them all the way.💕
Once again we get a gut punching cliffhanger! Honestly, this book really puts you through all the emotions but it is such a page turner. I will be waiting (im)patiently for book 3! ❤️
A huge thank you to Kate Asher for the privilege of reading an advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own and honestly/voluntarily given.
This sequel picks up right where we left off in Crown of Olympus. We got lots of scenes with our favorite characters, their enemies and met some new faces! If I could use three words to describe how I felt throughout this book, they would be - stressed, emotional and devastated lol 😆 . I love dual POV and could honestly read about Nyssa and Caelus over and over again! Their friends are all so wholesome and all their interactions and banter had me cracking up. The found family of this book is fierce, deadly, fun and heartwarming! I’m terrified who’s not gonna make it and am extremely stressed that no one is safe 🫣. The repeating quote of “Even gods can break” throughout the book was genius and an emotional reminder of what Nyssa and her loved ones are going to endure to win this war. . Nyssa and Caelus are becoming one of my favorite romantasy couples! The way they both love each other with their whole being (mind, body and soul) is just everything! 😍 The devotion, the adoration, the yearning, the touch him/her and die vibes, the protective, possessive and caring nature, the LOVE is all that you need and want in a book couple! Like I said before - I can read about them all day every day ☺️. . Kate did a fantastic job portraying how one navigates and processes grief and loss. Nyssa had the weight of the world and multiple realms on her shoulder. She had to put on her Queen face and could not falter when her people needed her. However, with Caelus, Velira and their close friends - they created a safe space for her to be vulnerable, to break down and support her through everything. That last chapter and cliffhanger ending had me shocked and feeling super emotional/desperate for the next book!
Wow what an incredible follow on from book 1. 😭😍🥺😩(idk what emoji to pick because I’ve felt every possible emotion in the last 48 hours).
Firstly, I love how this story holds space for Nyssa’s grief and gives an accurate experience of what it is like and how it can disconnect you from the world and your loved ones.
I don’t love how I also experienced VISCERAL GRIEF but I won’t speak more on that I’ll just send Kate my therapy bill because WHAT THE FK😭
Nyssa and Caelus’s relationship was like a drug to me and I’m an ADDICT. Their love is so beautiful and is the truest (perhaps literal😏) definition of soul mates.
We got to see more of the world and experienced all three realms, and meet all the leaders across the world which was really interesting.
I can’t say anything with spoiling but Caelus built a new bond/ friendship of sorts and it was one of the greatest parts of the book🥺🥺🥺
ALSO I have to add the little elements of feminine rage that came through was so inspiring and satisfying YES TO POWERFUL WOMEN❤️😍
The side characters are ELITE. New characters too? EVIE?? Obsessed. I LOVE THEM ALL. ESP THE BONDED ANIMALS. ESP our fire boii Minus one star because I thought there might be a threesome but there wasn’t. Kidding, the star will stay. But can we consider writing that into book 3? Please?? Asking for a friend🥵
Kronos is already terrifying but then along comes his BROTHER? Three words WHAT THE F!!!??
Thanks again Kate for an incredible read. And what an honour to be an early ARC reader❤️❤️❤️
Have the tissue box ready for this one, because this book was an emotional roller coaster that rips your heart out for these characters multiple times!
You pickup right where the last book left off with our FMC now ascended as both queen of the gods and underworld. With this newfound leadership role, she must get the rest of the gods in line to help her face the impending war with Kronos now that he’s escaped and Hera along with any other gods who defect to join him. She also must do what she can to protect the humans these gods oversea and all other manner of creatures who will become part of the cost of this war. All the while she is balancing her responsibilities as Hades of the underworld, getting the gates of hell sealed again, dealing with the loss of her best friend and these feelings of her life being tethered to the man she cannot live without.
This book was filled with just as much excitement and chaotic plot points as the first book. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out who else would potentially betray our FMC and how she would keep it all together again titans that seem to have way more power. I enjoyed getting to see more of her bond with her dragon along with the deepening love she had for her now soul tied MMC. The emotions I felt at the loss of many characters and betrayals by others throughout the book has me in tears for the FMC, and this all ends on quite the cliffhanger so now I need the next book ASAP! My rating 4.7/5!
Thanks to the author for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!
Blood of Olympus is the absolutely cracking sequel to Kate Asher's hit debut Crown of Olympus.
She absolutely did it again, this sequel was everything Crown was and more! We have the witty banter, the best found family, the sassy animal companions from Crown of Olympus but this time the stakes are higher, the realms are at war and the heart break is real!!
Kate's style of writing is easy to read and immersive. The action is packed, the story is fast paced, and the characters will have you falling for them or wanting to kill them. I judge a book more by how well you can make me hate the villain than by how well I love the MCs and Kate has me loathing entirely!!
I loved travelling more with the characters in this story, instead of just Olympus and The Underworld, in Blood we travel to Ephemeron, the mortal world. The world was opened up to us and introduced to new characters, some of which were fast favourites!!
And in true Kate fashion, there was a plethora of dick jokes!! The way she can balance the hard topics of war and grief with the sarcasm and witty humour had me kicking my feet one second and bawling my eyes out the next!
And that cliffhanger?!?! I'm already hanging out for the next book!
Blood of Olympus is out April 1st and definitely deserves top spot on the tbr! And if you havent already read Crown of Olympus then get onto it! It's already available and even on Kindle Unlimited!
I went in expecting a fun, engaging story with chaos and devastation, and a plethora of 🍆 jokes sprinkled throughout.
What I didn't expect was to finish it and just stare at my ceiling for a while, thinking, what just happened?!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Blood of Olympus, Kate's writing style is fun and immersive. The way certain topics are written and handled is phenomenal and you really feel for the characters affected!
Most of the things I loved from Crown made their way into Blood but better! The found family and character dynamics are top teir! I still absolutely adore Nyssa and Caelus and whole heartedly loathe the villains. There were certain moments that genuinely made me teary.
I love that we got to explore more through the story than just Olympus and the underworld, and as a lover of Greek Mythology when certain characters were mentioned or appeared I was happily kicking my feet.
I need and want more time with some of the side characters and I can't wait to explore some of them more! (but won't say for spoilers reasons)
I was completely absorbed, reading huge chunks at a time... and then BAM. Epilogue. What!!!
Also, the cliffhanger?!!!!!
The second installment of the Trials of Hades series fantastically sets up the story to continue in books three and beyond.
So, book three tomorrow? Please, I have monopoly money and can make a mean cheesecake? 👀
Thank you so much Kate for an ARC of Blood of Olympus, I am so grateful.
