A debut speculative romcom for fans of MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING and THE DEAD ROMANTICS, in which a woman must team up with a distractingly handsome ghost to save her childhood crush (and love of her life) from a generational curse.
Libby Lakoski has two major problems. First, she’s secretly in love with her best friend, Carter Coldwell, and second, he’s marrying someone else. For fifteen years, Carter’s affluent life on the Upper East Side has been the definition of “home” for Libby, a stark contrast to her shoebox apartment and absent mother. Carter’s the only person who has ever made Libby feel chosen, and she’s not ready to give up on him. Sure, his fiancée is a British diamond heiress, but Carter and Libby have years of history filled with runs in Central Park and late-night pizza. Not to mention, she’s the only one who knows his family is cursed.
But then a third problem presents itself—or, himself. Trip Coldwell is Carter’s handsome, smart, flirtatious cousin who also happens to be a ghost. Trip’s “unfinished business” is to break the Coldwell curse, but the solution hinges on Carter getting married. Unfortunately, Libby is the only living person who can see him, and her objective is the exact opposite.
Appealing to Libby’s unrequited crush, Trip enlists her help to break the curse before Carter is affected. As they follow a trail of clues across New York City, Libby learns more about Trip and the complicated dynamics of the Coldwell family. She finds herself questioning just how much Carter reciprocated her friendship, feeling perplexed by a growing attraction to Trip, and worse, fantasizing about actually touching him. With the countdown to the wedding in full swing, Libby must choose between breaking the curse and holding tight to her best friend forever.

I was so lucky to be an early reader for this book and YOU WANT THIS ONE ON YOUR SHELF! Trip and Libby have a permanent place in my heart. Katie is a debut author to watch!
update: Without reading the blurb, I said to myself, “Wow, this is if the Dead Romantics and Best friend’s Wedding had a baby”
It is giving off, Best friend’s wedding, love that movie
pre-read I am excited to start a new book especially from a debut author. It doesn’t hurt that it’s magical realism with an unattainable MMC, a ghost 👻
Thank you Penguin Random House and Katie Jung for the e-ARC via Netgalley
4.5 stars rounded up to 5 I love a good magical realism romance especially if there’s a ghost/spirit and this didn’t disappoint! The cover is so cute add that with the name I just had to pick this up and I’m so glad I did! I loved Libby as our main character. Her personal growth was a strong theme in this novel. I really enjoyed seeing her realize, with trips help, that she can be herself. He helped her realize she doesn’t have to be who she thinks others want her to be cough cough Carter… And Trip? I adored him! Libby and Trip together? Magical! The chemistry & tension was top tier. I enjoyed reading about the curse and family drama also. All of the side ventures that Libby and Trip went on were interesting. Honestly all of the characters were amazing. The relationship Libby & Sabrina created was so fun and comforting. Im glad they had each other to lean on. I wished we got more of Zuri but I liked the few glimpses we did get.
This was such a solid debut novel and I can’t wait to see what Katie has in store for us next! I need 10 more like pronto!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc for my honest review!
Thank you Penguin Book and Viking Penguin for this ARC!
I absolutely adored this book! I love anything with a ghosty twist like dead romantics to ghost whisperer and this one definitely fit the bill. We meet Elzbieta/Elz/Libby, who for 15 years pined after her best friend, on the cusp of him getting married to someone else everything in her world turned upside down and a hot ghost with a slutty little earring shows up asking for her help. Trip, our hot ghost, knows there is a curse against his family and he thinks the only way to break the curse is with Elz’s help. The book is filled with growth, banter, twists and turns and so much yearning/tension. I loved how Trip really sees Elz and she grows so much. I was rooting for her the entire time and loved how much she grew through out the book. The mystery element of the curse had me on my toes trying to figure out how to break it. Plus the friendships that grew between some of the characters was just so good! Overall if you love banter, yearning, he falls first, hint of magic, strong female friendships, and family drama then I highly recommend this one!
Ehhhh. I made it 25% in before throwing up my hands.
There is too much insta touching, fantasized notions, and oggling over how the man looks. He also is a ghost... but changes clothes as often as Liz Taylor did in Cleopatra. Make it make sense? Because his body is currently in an ICU unit strapped to IVs and monitors, in a t-shirt and sweatpants.
Also: This ain't slowburn. Slowburn is not realizing feelings or having any notion of anybody doing anything. Yet. He pinned her against the wall with his hands on either side of her looking dangerously close to kissing her. And he was oggling (and groaning) her while she was braless in a t-shirt and sweats.
Out of respect for the author I won't rate this, but I will put my thoughts down as a reference.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Viking Penguin for the ARC of You're the One that I Haunt by Katie Jung.
I'll be honest -- as a teenager I was obsessed with Meg Cabot's Mediator series, so I am an absolute sucker for any book about solving a mystery with a handsome ghost - so, while I hate the punny title trend currently happening in romance, I read the description and thought, yes, this is for me. I was not disappointed - this is a super cute debut.
I think the description of the book is accurate, so I won't rewrite it in my own words.
I will expand though on the characterization, starting with Libby-- I think she's relatable in a lot of ways -- 20-something trying to find her place in the world but minimizing and doubting herself. That is the real crux of the story and one Jung does a great job developing and expanding. Libby wants to be chosen by the people around her, by success, etc. but she doesn't know how to choose herself. She has a ton of amazing qualities, she tries to lift up those around her, and she's convinced herself to be comfortable with what she has instead of thinking to ask for more. We see her do it in her friendships, in love, in work, in all her actions, even though those around her call her on it continuously. It was nice to watch how she develops to the point she does, and to realize so much of the story is about her loving herself, which does pull it a bit further from a traditional romance plot but in a satisfying way. I also loved that Libby's relationship with Sabrina wasn't a catty jealousy thing - it's 2026, we don't need to bring women down -- and Jung made their friendship and their conversations feel really authentic and natural, even if one of them is a diamond heiress.
Trip is generally well-laid out on the page. Jung walked a very tricky line with Libby having feelings for Carter for so long, and then her developing them for Trip. Having Libby constantly be reflecting on herself and her relationships helped to show she was truly falling for Trip, but it does mean that between those conflicting feelings developing and the inability to touch Trip/see him consistently, that the growth of their relationship felt more dependent upon Libby than on Trip as really equal contributors. Libby is right to be doubtful on if a ghost is a viable relationship option, and Trip at first comes on very strong before recognizing there are aspects of himself that he can approve upon if he gets a second chance at life. I do wish we actually got to see more of Trip pre-accident. Because he and Carter had a falling out we only know what Trip tells us about his family and his distance from them, and we do learn things about him, but it did feel like there was a bit of a wall to really getting to know him and why he wanted to change so much for Libby. He's still a great character and there romance is really flirty and fun and he helps to push Libby into seeing her worth, but I feel like there was more I wanted from this because it seemed like Carter was getting a similar page count and at times it felt a bit more of a love triangle than not.
Carter, god, I feel like so many women will read this and think of the similar Carter in their own lives even if they aren't from oil money. Jung nailed that.
The paranormal aspects were fun - both in terms of the witchier callings and the ghost actions. I do wish we got a bit more from Libby's grandmother about the gifts or if Libby generally showed more interest in them, but it's okaty those weren't there because that would keep moving this story further from romance. The mystery was interesting (but what is in that Carmichael family breadbox!?) and came to a solid conclusion, and if it seemed a bit convenient here or there, it was still a really fun ride. I also loved all of Libby's Polish references for names and food, etc.
All in all, it's a really cute read, it has depth in characterization and in plot and reads more like chick lit (in the best way) than just a romance. Jung is one to keep a look out for in future releases, and my Mediator loving heart is happy to also have this on my shelf.
Magical and immersive, Katie Jung stuns in her debut romance novel, You’re the One that I Haunt. Elzbieta ‘Libby’ Lakoski is a program manager who has been in love with her best friend, Carter, for fifteen years. At sixteen, Carter confides in Libby that his family is cursed and knows how he will die. In the present time, Libby attends Carter’s engagement party and learns about his move to England from his sister. Upset with Carter not telling her, Libby retreats into an empty room where she meets Trip Coldwell, Carter’s cousin. Trip overhears Libby’s plan of breaking up the wedding, and an argument ensues, resulting in Libby pushing Trip, only for her finger to go right through him. Trip informs Libby that he is somewhat of a ghost, and she could help him return to his body and stop the Coldwell curse before it takes Carter, too. As Libby and Trip work together to find a way to end the curse, their attraction towards each other grows, feelings are developed, and Libby wonders if Trip is her future and not Carter.
Libby and Trip were such an endearing couple. Their banter, support, and encouragement were the foundation that shaped and built their eventual relationship. Libby’s vulnerabilities, accomplishments, and desire to be chosen were all seen by Trip, and his constant reassurances motivated her to become confident enough to choose herself. Likewise, Trip instantly was able to understand and acknowledge Libby’s importance, while Libby was the only one who truly saw Trip, even when he was in his ghostly apparition form. She recognized his pain and guilt regarding his father and provided comfort and consolation to him. Together, their relationship was complementary, supportive, and tender. Not to mention passionate, nurturing, and loving as well.
Katie Jung is an exceptionally promising new author, and I am thoroughly impressed and in awe that this radiant novel is her debut. Despite it being a love story, it is also a reflective story of realizing your value, knowing your worth, and finding and reclaiming your sense of self. This was such a cozy and heartwarming read, and I enjoyed every second of it. I can’t wait to read what else Jung has in the future, but I’m giddy with anticipation.
Thank you to Viking Penguin and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Libby Laboski has spent half her life in love with her best friend, Carter. Just when she thinks things cannot get any worse than having to attend his engagement party, she starts seeing the ghost of Carter’s not quite dead cousin, Trip.
Trip needs Libby’s help to break a curse on his family and, if she wants to save Carter’s life, she is going to have to work with him. What follows is a mix of chaos, emotional growth, and unexpected self discovery.
I loved this so much. Honestly, how is this a debut?
I genuinely struggled to find anything wrong with this book. It completely pulled me in and I did not want to put it down.
One of my favourite parts was the way Trip helped Libby grow into herself. He encourages her to realise that she is worth loving and that she does not need to shrink herself or hide parts of who she is just to make other people comfortable. That aspect of the story really stood out to me. Trip is also very much top tier book boyfriend material and I loved everything about him.
Libby starts off as such a people pleaser and someone who cannot really see herself outside of Carter. Watching her growth over the course of the book was so satisfying. It felt believable and natural, and I was rooting for her from the very beginning.
I ended up reading this in one sitting. I went in already quite excited because it reminded me a bit of Ghosted by Sarah Ready, and I was slightly worried it might feel too similar. It really did not. This story completely stands on its own and I loved that.
Another thing I really appreciated was the relationship between Libby and Sabrina. It would have been so easy to fall into clichés there, but instead of any cattiness, they build a genuine friendship that feels supportive and real. It was honestly refreshing to read.
I cannot wait to see what this author does next. For a debut novel, this completely blew me away. It was emotional, funny, and just really engaging from start to finish.
I also really enjoyed the epilogue and would absolutely love to see Carter get his own happy ending at some point.
Katie Jung is definitely one to watch.
Tropes: Forced proximity Suspense Paranormal Guys… He’s a GHOST!
I am so fortunate to have been approved for a review copy of You're the One That I Haunt. You're the One That I Haunt by Katie Jung is one of those romances where you can't help but hope for a happy ending for everyone involved. Whether you like the paranormal, slow burn romance, breaking curses, repairing family relationships, having a second chance at love, or choosing your own happy ending...there's a little bit of everything in this book.
Libby and Trip's relationship was unconventional to say the least. The angst and yearning that Trip had while he was in his ghostly state as he got to know Libby was definitely painful to read at times because I wanted them to be together. There were moments where I wondered how it would even work between the two of them, but it all paid off in the end. I definitely thought that Trip helped push Libby to become more independent and that independence helped her make the right choices when it came to him and Carter. Trip was there for Libby in ways that Carter wasn't and, to me, that's why they worked so well together.
Carter seemed like an okay dude in the beginning of the book, but as I read more, I felt that he was very self-centered and oblivious to the feelings that Libby had for him for the past 15 years. I also felt that when it came to him and Sabrina, things seemed to have been very rushed between the two of them. In some ways, it seemed that the marriage was forced between the two of them.
When it comes to the elder Carmichaels and Coldwell's, I do wish that there was more background into why the curse was even placed on them. While the book did emphasize that they were trying to break the curse, I felt that there could have been a bit more detail added as to why all the accidents were similar to each other. Despite this, I loved how it was resolved.
Sabrina and Libby may not have been on the best terms in the beginning of the book, but I was so glad to see their relationship grow in a positive way. Sabrina and Libby are definitely girl's girls and they deserve to be BFFs.
Overall, You're the One That I Haunt is a fantastic debut from Katie Jung and I look forward to reading more stories from her.
Thank you Penguin Books for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
The story follows Libby, who’s been in love with her best friend Carter for as long as she can remember. With his wedding fast approaching, she teams up with the spirit of his cousin to try and break their family curse.
3.75 ⭐️
I really liked the concept of this one. The mix of romance and the paranormal added something a bit different, and I was curious to see how it would all come together.
Libby was easy to connect with, especially with how long she had held onto her feelings. There’s something about that kind of quiet, unspoken love that always pulls me in, and I found myself really rooting for her. I especially enjoyed seeing her step out of her shell and start finding her confidence.
Then there’s Trip, the cousin, very charming and honest, and definitely the kind of wake-up call she needed. Their connection builds slowly, with only a few encounters at first, but there’s an early sense of attraction. Much of it is explored through Libby’s inner thoughts, which gives their relationship a more introspective feel.
The rest of the characters were interesting and added nicely to the story. I especially loved Sabrina, the fiancée. It was so refreshing to see the friendship that developed between her and Libby.
That said, I did struggle a little with the flow at times. As the story focuses heavily on the characters and their interactions, it sometimes felt like it moved from scene to scene without fully connecting, which made it harder to stay immersed.
I also would have liked to see more exploration of the paranormal element. Libby accepts her gift fairly quickly, and I found myself wishing for a bit more curiosity or development around it.
Overall, a promising debut from Katie Jung, and I’d be interested to see what the author writes next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for the arc.
Thank you to NetGalley, Viking Penguin and Penguin Books for the eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
Libby has loved her Carter Caldwell, her childhood best friend, for as long as she can remember. As teenagers he told her about the Caldwell family curse and now she has the chance to save him from it, but that means letting him marry someone else. While trying to decide what to do she meets Carter’s cousin Trip—a ghost with unfinished business who need’s Libby’s helps. As the work together Libby begins to question her relationship with Carter and her developing feelings for Trip.
I saw a lot about this book on Instagram and was sold on the premise of the book, unfortunately I didn’t get the slow-burn and yearning love story that I thought I would. The relationship between Libby and Trip felt like it went 0-60 and I didn’t buy the initial intensity of Trip’s feelings for Libby considering the two had just met. As the book progressed I did appreciate how he helped Libby to see value in herself, be more confident and that it’s okay to choose herself.
The paranormal and mystery aspect of the book was also enjoyable and kept me invested in the book, I was able to read this in one sitting. I do wish we had been given a reason as to why the Caldwell family was cursed, I think it would have added more to that plotline.
Overall, this was a solid debut from Katie Jung. I do wish the romantic relationship was more of a slow burn as it would build more tension and made the moment the two finally get together feel more earned. Despite that, I was invested in the plot of the book and Libby’s overall character growth.
Thank you again to NetGalley, Viking Penguin and Penguin Books for the eARC.
a true 3.5 stars This was a solid debut, and I’m definitely curious to see what the author does next.
One of my favorite parts was Trip’s role in Libby’s growth. He consistently encouraged her to stop shrinking herself—helping her recognize her own worth and just how much she had to offer.
Watching her start to see Carter for what he really was (a complete pud) was oh so satisfying. There were a lot of layers to the story, but it never felt bogged down by unnecessary subplots, which I appreciated. That said, the balance between showing and telling leaned a bit too heavily toward telling for me. I never felt fully immersed in the world or as emotionally connected to the characters as I wanted to be.
I also found myself a little unclear on the reasoning behind the curse—it felt like something that could’ve used just a bit more depth or clarity to really land.
Even so, it kept me engaged enough to binge in a single day, which says a lot. There’s just this hard-to-pinpoint something missing. Maybe a little more emotional depth? The premise itself had so much potential for a strong emotional pull, but I didn’t fully *feel* it. The writing style came across a tad stiff at times, which might’ve contributed to that distance. Maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace.
Babcia absolutely got me, though. She made me miss my grandma in the best (and most bittersweet) way and made me wish I had the sight too. There are so many loved ones I’d give anything to have one more conversation with.
Thank you to the author, Viking Penguin | Penguin Books and NetGalley for the eARC.
Ohkkkkk, I'm so bad at formal reviews so pretend we are just talking about this book over coffee (cuz this one would be so fun to talk about over coffee for sure!!)
So, I really adored this book! I loved the premise, the romance, the side characters, the internal&external character growth & the family mystery especially - that had me turning pages to see what new information they would find & if they would ever be able to break the family curse & I really enjoyed it. I thought it was well written & held my attention & for a debut author I'm totally sold on reading whatever she writes next!! Solid book & a fun romance for sure!! Definitely would recommend it!!
4 stars ⭐
A small slightly spoiler-y caveat below - if you don't wanna know, just skip it :) . . . . . . . . . . . . I warned you - don't read below if you don't want a small spoiler. . . . . . .
Ohkkkkk, I have one caveat that bumped this down from a 4.5/5 star for me to a 4 - so I swear I saw this one marketed somewhere as a slow burn.....to which I would say, it is not, or not my definition of a slow burn. However, if I throw that expectation out (because it was definitely more insta-attraction adjacent to me & while we're at it the love triangle wasn't really triangling, but I didn't mind that much at all), then I would have been a 4.5 star. So maybe just don't go in expecting a slow burn.
Alright, that's it - highly recommend this one & I cannot wait to read more of what Katie Jung writes - huge thank you to Netgalley & Viking Penguin for my arc - all thoughts & opinions are my own.

I have always loved a paranormal romance, so I was immediately intrigued by You're the One That I Haunt. I loved the magical realism and that it was set in NYC, a city so bustling that anyone could be a ghost and a perfect setting for the old-school occult with all of its history.
Katie Jung developed so many solid and unique plot points in this story, and I found myself very excited by this not only being a human x ghost romance, but also full of mystery, the occult, and fraught family relations. That is a lot to take on in a debut novel. There were some plot points that could have been more fleshed out (the backstory of the curse, Carter/Libby's past, Carter/Trip's past, a slower build-up for the main relationship, etc), but the ideas were there, and Jung's potential for even more polished future novels is exciting and very promising.
Despite feeling a little rushed (or maybe I am just used to a very slow burn), Trip and Libby's relationship, especially towards the end of the story, felt passionate (the main spicy scene had me feeling all tingly and was very well-done). Libby was a slightly difficult character for me to connect with; however, I think it's because she represented a lot of things a people-pleaser struggles with, and I saw of things in her that I dislike about that part of myself. It takes a solid writer to make you feel those connections and to write a character that is very human, even when it's frustrating.
I will definitely be watching for more of her works!
This was such an unexpected joy. The first few pages were a little bit of a struggle and I did briefly consider pausing or DNF'ing but I pushed through and once we hit that time skip it instantly became more enjoyable.
I loved Libby and I loved Trip. Carter gave me mixed feelings because I get it, the whole being in love with your best friend thing, but I also couldn't really stand him.
Sabrina, I fell in love with and I'm so pleased that this books is one of so few that actually portray the love of my life's girlfriend/fiancee/wife as someone actually genuine and likeable and not the miserable hags we usually see.
This book mostly follows the usual sctick of an urban romantasy, but it does it really well. Characters are well defined enough that they stand by themselves, they're likable, the plot is intriguing and the love interest is actually interesting without being a complete misogynistic mess of a human and also without being a complete sap with no spine or remarkable traits otherwise.
I was completely sold on this during the little library encounter in Trip's brownstone. 'His eyes darken. "All the way." "What?" I tilt my head. "I want to see you on my desk."' Yeah this interaction killed me. I loved it. This cemented the palpable sexual tension for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.
You’re the One That I Haunt was honestly such a fun and addictive paranormal rom-com. The concept alone completely sold me — ghosts, family curses, Upper East Side drama, and a love triangle involving a dead man? Immediate chaos in the best way.
Libby was such an entertaining FMC because even while her life is fully falling apart, she’s still sarcastic, emotional, and easy to root for. And Trip? Katie Jung absolutely knew what she was doing making the ghost cousin the charming, annoying, secretly-soft love interest. Their banter and chemistry carried the entire book for me.
The romance had that perfect mix of tension, humor, and emotional moments, and the “he falls first” energy was SO good. I also loved that the paranormal elements actually felt important to the story instead of just being there for aesthetics. The Coldwell curse storyline kept things interesting and added higher stakes beyond the romance.
The whole vibe of the book felt very early 2000s rom-com mixed with modern BookTok romance energy — dramatic rich families, messy feelings, witty dialogue, and one extremely attractive ghost causing problems everywhere he goes.
Overall, this was funny, romantic, chaotic, and surprisingly emotional at times. If you love rivals-to-lovers tension, paranormal romance with humor, and MMCs who are obsessed from the start, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Don't mind me SCREAMING at that last sentence omg omg omg. Oh I LOVED this!!!! Like I absolutely ATE it UP!!! I was sat and completely immersed from page 1 and yes I did read it in one sitting, because how was I supposed to put it down? Impossible. I'm obsessed with the plot, it's so fun and I am THE biggest fan of magical realism so everything about it I loved. It just adds a layer of angst and tension that I go absolutely feral for hehehehe. Then the characters... give me Trip right now. This man... the way he was so supportive to Libby (sorry, Elz :)) and helped her see that she was worth so much more than she might have convinced herself of. He wasn't having any of it and I love him. And my girl Libby... like I want to cry thinking of how she thought she had to minimise herself to be chosen and love, like no no no. I love how she slowly grew into herself, like yes girl you are worth everything!!! And how I love her friendships with both Zuri and also Sabrina (especially since her relationship with Sabrina could've gone a whole different way). I also love her relationship with Babcia, she seems like the ultimate grandmother everyone deserves in their life. I am obsessed with the entire story and so happy with how everything turned out. I love it.
Thank you to Random House UK and Katie Jung for the ARC!
I absolutely loved this book. I’m a sucker for a paranormal romance. The pining and yearning, the tension, the banter. I was rooting for every single character. This book did a great job at making all of the characters feel real. They had their flaws and through the story had actual growth. It was fun to see the characters evolve and fight for their own happiness and self worth.
When Carters fiancée was introduced I was expecting her to be a villain or a main obstacle to the FMC. She easily became one of my favorite characters. I love that female friendship was such a big part of this story.
My only complaints were the pacing and the curse. The ending felt a little rushed. I won’t say much regarding my thoughts on the curse to avoid spoilers, but basically I think it fell short of my expectations.
Overall the book was light, fun, and romantic. It had mystery elements with the curse breaking portions but the general vibe felt more romance/character growth driven than mystery. The characters were wonderful and I know I’ll be thinking of Libby and Trip for a long time. I finished the book after a couple days but if I had the time I easily could’ve finished it in one sitting because I was hooked the entire time.
Thank you to Viking Penguin, Katie Jung and team for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
thank you viking penguin and netgalley for this arc!! 3.5 stars!
this was such a lovely debut novel, the plot was so intriguing and kept me hooked. i have been loving magic realism lately so this felt right up my alley. my favorite part in the book was definitely reading about libby defining her own happy ending and learning to stand her ground and embrace her own strength with trip’s help. trip’s and libby’s relationship was so wholesome and i loved reading their relationship develop despite him being a ghost. their dynamic was so heartfelt, unique and added so much charm to the story.
the premise itself felt fresh and engaging and i really appreciated the plot. while i did enjoy the book as a whole i found myself loving the final third of the story. that being said, i felt like at times the writing felt very juvenile and the structure became choppy. certain plot points and character developments felt rushed or added more for convenience rather than organic progression. yet despite those flaws i loved the ending. it was heartfelt and warmed my heart. i did wish we got to see more of libby and trip at the end. but this was such a lovely debut and can’t wait to see what this author writes in the future!
Libby has been in love with her best friend, Carter, since they were kids. She’s been hoping for years that he would eventually realize he loves her as well. After all, she has stuck by his side and always been there for him. Including the day he surprises her with a new fiancé and insists he help his new bride-to-be with wedding planning. While at a family event Libby has a run in with Carters cousin, Trip, which wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t a ghost. Together, Libby and Trip attempt to break the family curse and ensure Carter doesn’t end up dead like all of his other male relatives. Trip tests Libby in ways that she’s never experienced and brings out a side of herself that even she didn’t know about.
This book had me laughing, swooning, and kicking my feet the entire time! The interesting plot/story line and slow burn romance had be HOOKED. The character development in this story was so raw and real throughout. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Viking Penguin/ Penguin Books publishing for this E-ARC!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC and the opportunity to read it ahead of time. This was such a fun read, I finished it in less than 48 hours and thoroughly enjoyed it, specially the characters and the paranormal storyline.
I adored Tripp, his character is such a gem. I loved his wittiness, boldness, and growth. I really enjoyed his and Libby’s adventure and working partnership. Libby is a quirky character, and I enjoyed her many “selves” (she seemed to act differently around everyone, which was interesting to see). It was great watching her evolve and become more confident.
I also appreciated the side characters, especially Sabrina, I would love her to get her own story ♡.
I would have loved to see more build-up for the MMC and FMC. The infatuation, especially on the MMC side, felt a bit quick. I kept expecting some kind of hidden connection from their past.
I couldn’t wait for the ending, and I was pleasantly satisfied.

Libby has been in love with her best friend, Carter for years. So, when he announces his engagement to a diamond heiress, she's hurt. Her plan is to make Carter realize that he and Libby should be together. At the engagement party, she meets Carter's cousin, Trip. Problem is, Trip's a ghost and only Libby can see him. Problem is, Trip thinks the only way to break the curse on his family is for Carter to marry his fiancee. Of course, this is the last thing that Libby wants. She starts trying to figure out if there's another possible way to break the curse. As Libby helps with the wedding preparations, she and Trip become close. But is she ready to let go of her crush on Carter and how can she and Trip be together if he's in a coma? A fun, breezy romance with very likable characters.
I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Katie Jung, and to Viking Books for the eARC of this book.
I loved this book! It was so creative and I really wasn’t 100% sure of how this was going to go based on the description. Katie hit this book out of the park! Loved the characters, loved the settings, loved everything about it! The character arc for Libby was so well done. Trip helped her see her worth, and she found her voice. It was really such an interesting book and I was smiling and laughing out loud and so many parts especially the last four chapters. I had a big dopey smile on my face because I just loved this book so much. I will definitely recommend this book and I will forever be a Katie Jung fan.
I'm obsessed! I was so lucky to receive an ARC of You're The One That I Haunt! This is a book I had been so excited to read since I came across Katie on Instagram. I was immediately drawn to the premise of this book. A girl, secretly in love with her best friend (who is engaged to be married), then decides to team up with said best friends cousin to break a decades long family curse. Oh and the cousin is a ghost! Say less. This story was full of family, friendship, second chances, a little magic, tension, yearning and ROMANCE. The romance was romancing! It was heartwarming and sweet and even a little spicy 😏 The perfect mix...AND from a debut author!!
When I could sense that I was getting to the end of the book, I cried because I didn't want it to end. Then I cried some more through the epilogue. I already miss this story and its characters, which says it all.
Katie Jung has a reader for life in me and I CANNOT wait to read whatever she writes next!
Thank you to Katie, Penguin Books and Net Galley for the ARC. It was an honor to be able to read You're The One That I Haunt and I can't wait for my physical copy to arrive when it releases on September 22, 2026!
This is comped as My Best Friends Wedding x Gossip Girl and man does it deliver!
I LOVED THIS! Highly anticipated, and better than I expected. Never have I ever fallen in love with a ghost until now... Trip the man that you are! He sees her for who she is, when everyone else made her feel invisible.
I love the depth the plot has despite the more light hearted premise. I love that her best friend's fiance is LIKEABLE, loveable even and not painted out to be a villain or b*tch. She's perhaps more likable than the best friend even lol
I loved the Polish rep, that was unique and the relationship with her Grandmother was such a special touch.
Most importantly- the banter was bantering, and the tension was tensioning.
I can't wait to read more from Katie!
Thanks to Pamela Dorman/ Penguin for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
