Omg i don’t even know where to start. Ana and Dean have my whole heart. This book absolutely destroyed me and healed me aswell. This duet has my whole soul and heart.
Book 1 ended with our FMCs abusive husband finding her and book 2 continues from there. Ana went through so much and i was in absolute tears with the pain and torment she went through. I beg please check triggers before proceeding with this book as there are alot of heavy topics and some of the things our FMC went through really did have me pausing to process it all.
Jordan like with book 1 did such a phenomenal job writing book 2. It is really hard writing about DV and assault but Jordan wrote it with such sensitivity. This was an emotionally wrecking book but the ending was just ughh 😭🤍
Dean our MMC (Not the abusive husband) was absolutely perfect and has definitely got a spot as top 10 book boyfriend. The level of devotion he showed towards Annabelle was so poignant and beautiful. This guys literally had the energy touch her and die and burn the world down for her.
I don’t even want to talk about Ricky 😡 Just reading about this guy got me so angry. Genuinely did not think i could hate someone as much as Bernadette (Edge of Darkness) but Ricky definitely did the work to get there. Every chapter that had him got me so angry genuinely never cheered so hard when karma bit his ass.
Please proceed with caution and read the trigger warnings.
First of all I just wanted to say Thank you for the opportunity to read “The Wounds We Heal” early. This was my first ARC read & will hold a special place in my heart ❤️
As always please read the Trigger warnings before starting. This book does contain its fair share of trauma & explicit descriptions.
I absolutely couldn’t wait to see what was in store for Ana & Dean! Let’s just say you will not be disappointed! It’s so well written & the author has such a creative mind! (I’ve learned things I didn’t know existed after reading their books!). The Wounds We Heal had suspense! Gore! Twists! And of course TRAUMA!! If you’re a fan of the author like I am you might notice a subtle nod to another book written by them 👀 which made me audibly gasp! Fantastic read & I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it!
RATED ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
If you loved The Bones we Break & want to see what happens next make sure to read The Wound We Head (Releasing 29/12/2025)
If you haven’t read any books by the Author yet, Join us! You won’t be disappointed
First and foremost CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠️⚠️ This is a PITCH BLACK ROMANCE
Also this is book 2 in the The Broken Souls Duet you need to read book 1 The Bones We Break
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶 (I gave it a 2 because for me it wasn't about the spice it was more about the devotion, healing, survival and reclaiming for me)
First and Foremost I want to say a big thank you to J.N. Bamforth for letting me have the opportunity to read this as an ARC, I have received many of her books as an ARC and loved everyone of them and adding them to my kindle library and physical copies to my home library!!!!
As soon as this book hit my kindle I knew that it wouldn't disappoint and also knew it would stick with me for a long time. This book was an emotional roller coaster. This book starts right where the bones we break left off with Ana being taken back by her abusive husband. (And I won't go in to much about Ricky just his name and that nickname he gave her makes my blood boil. I thought I couldn't hate someone so much but this duet proved me wrong.) My heart broke for what Ana had to endure, the torture, torment from Ricky (husband)😡.But with all that she still held out on hope that Dean would find her that thought kept her going and never giving up no matter what was done to her. And Dean the way he was broken realizing he lost a part of him but he never gave up looking for Ana he keep searching and searching he would keep getting close and every time he would miss by just a little. Ana started leaving messages to help him find her which gave him hope and kept her going knowing he wouldn't give up. Dean is the definition of a man every woman wants and needs in their life the kind that would burn the world down to find and bring her home safely. I want to say that this book was will have you in your feels the way J.N Bamforth way wrote this book you know she put her all into it to give us the heartbreak but also showing the healing of that heartbreak and trauma. This book had me crying, shattered me and also stitching my back together in places that i didn't realize needed it. In many ways helped me realize how much I have healed from my own past trauma and the fight will always still be there. Thank you J.N for writing this duet it will forever stick with me.
This book ripped my heart out, shattered it and handed it back to me in pieces so they could be glued back together again!
This book isn't "just" abuse, it is torture in every sense of the way. But it's also resilience, strength, devotion and love.
The things Ana has to go trough had my stomach rolling. Ricky is even worse than he was in the first book, this man is the devil himself, but Ana always finds a sliver of hope to hold onto and doesn't go down without a fight.
“So use me. Use me until there’s nothing left, but let me say this, you will never have my soul.”
Dean feels himself slipping back into the darkness he once left behind without his "Pretty girl" and tries his damn hardest to keep it together and find her so he can take her home.
"I’ll fucking kill for her, tear worlds apart and set the fuckers alight until I have her in my hands. I’ll watch everything burn around us as I kneel at her feet."
The connection Ana and Dean share is so intense and so beautiful. It had me weak in the knees. They truly belong together and when they finally find their way back to eachother there's nothing that'll tear them apart.
“I’ll love you, until our bodies fall back into the earth and our bones fuse together to become one.”
There is one sentence in the book that made me realize once again that books as dark as this one are about healing, healing from past trauma and accepting yourself in the aftermath. Whether it's healing from abuse, an accident or in my case from a life threatening disease that left scars behind, mentally and physically.
"Ana stands before me like a Goddess amongst a battlefield, wounded and bruised from her fight yet still remains standing, and I am in awe of her"
There will always be someone that'll love you and worship you no matter who you've become. Even battered and bruised you deserve love and acceptance of self. 🖤
I absolutely loved this second book in the broken souls duet, it had me on the edge of my seat, heart beating fast and feeling deeply.
The Wounds We Heal is such a deeply emotional and nerve wracking experience, but an enjoyable one nonetheless. This is the second book in The Broken Souls Duet and begins right where the first ends, so if you want to experience the emotional trauma that this book will inflict on you, start with The Wounds We Break!
This novel broke my soul into tiny pieces, then slowly pieced it back together, then shattered it all over again, and again, and again. This book is exhausting and soul destroying, but also liberating and inspirational. There's always hope, even in the darkest of times. This story will not only sit with me for a long time, but will sit with so many who will take away so much from this duology.
Bamforth has an exceptional way with words and story telling, allowing readers to truly feel for the characters. The Wounds We Heal is nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster, and you cannot help but form deep connections with the characters. I have truly never hated a character more than I do Ricky, I cannot express this enough! Often times I had to put the book down to just take a breather from his character, which is a true reflection of Bamforth's writing.
A wonderfully emotional conclusion to The Broken Souls Duet that I will carry with me for a long time. You know it's a good read when it leaves you broken staring at nothing. Please note the trigger warnings before diving into this duology, there are a lot, and can be quite heavy at times.
Thank you so much to the author for an arc of The Wounds We Heal, I am extremely grateful! All opinions and thoughts are my own and were left voluntarily.
I’m still trying to catch my breath after this duet. Ana and Dean completely own my heart. This story shattered me, stitched me back together, and then left me staring at the wall when it was over.
Book two picks up right after that devastating ending in book one, when Ana’s past crashes back into her life. Watching her endure everything that follows was heartbreaking—I had tears streaming more times than I can count. The emotional weight is heavy, and there were moments I had to stop reading just to sit with it all. Please, please take the trigger warnings seriously before diving in.
Jordan handled these themes with so much care. Writing about abuse and trauma is never easy, but it was done here with empathy and intention, never feeling exploitative. This book is raw, painful, and exhausting in the best and worst ways—and somehow still manages to deliver a conclusion that feels deeply earned.
Dean (and no, not that man) is everything. His love, patience, and unwavering loyalty to Annabelle were incredibly moving. He’s the kind of MMC who would burn the world down without hesitation if it meant keeping her safe. Instant top-tier book boyfriend status.
As for Ricky… I won’t even give him the satisfaction of a full rant. Just know that every page he appeared on filled me with rage. Watching consequences finally catch up to him was beyond satisfying.
This duet is not an easy read, but it is a powerful one. Go in prepared, protect your heart, and read the trigger warnings before starting.
FIRST AND FOREMOST PLEASE READ THE ⚠️TRIGGER WARNINGS!⚠️ YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS AND I CAN SEE WHERE ALMOST THIS WHOLE BOOK MAY BE AN ISSUE FIR SOME!
That being said, I cannot thank @jnbauthor enough for placing this arc in my hands.
This book follows FMC Annabelle and MMC Dean. This book throws you into the deep end IMMEDIATELY and keeps you in a chokehold for the whole book!
I cannot imagine how hard this must have been to write, hats off to this first time author for me. Annabelle is a very strong character and I am so glad that the author wrote her this way. Otherwise, this story would not have worked. Annabelle is taken by her husband right after he crashes into her car. Annabelle's husband (he deserves what he gets and more), Ricky, has been searching for her since she was able to runaway. She is finally in a living relationship with Dean. I appreciate how the author made Annabelle's character be the strong one for the other girls, and that Dean, his friend Eli and his wife Cecilia are doing everything they can to shut down the traffickers and take care of all the women and girls.
Like I said, this book is full of subjects that are not for everyone. However I think that it was written very well and that says a lot for this author!
“I truly believe that we both had to go through the things we went through to find each other, that we had to walk through hell to find our other halves,”
Oh it definitely walks you through hell!
The Wounds We Heal is part two of the Broken Souls duet. It’s a pitch black book with very traumatic scenes. You need to have read The Bones We Break first so if you haven’t (why not?) stop now.
We start off right where The Bones We Break finished, with Ana taken. You’re painstakingly taken through Ana’s living nightmare, there were times I had to stop and just take the breath I was holding. It’s rough. Dean is a broken man, he never stops looking for Ana.
I literally couldn’t put this book down, I had to find out what happens so I got through it in less than a day. Anything J.N Bamforth writes is an emotional rollercoaster and I shall definitely be reading a nice, fluffy smutfest next to recover from this. The trigger and content warnings list should come with a warning. I love a good ‘menu of horrors’ but obviously that isn’t for everyone so protect your mental health and do read them before proceeding with this amazing duet.
I honestly cannot fault this book, just brilliant.
I swear this duet owns my whole soul now. After book one I was already unwell and book two came in and said let me make it worse. And honestly I loved every second of it.
My hatred for Ricky grew every chapter. I don’t think I’ve ever despised a fictional man this much. When Dean finally handled him I literally cheered. Out loud. The way the author wrote Dean’s heartbreak while trying to save Ana crushed me. He loves her with everything he has and you feel it.
Ana went through so much and still kept fighting. I was so proud of her. The emotional scenes hit so hard I actually cried at one point. Dean and Ana seeing each other again had me tearing up like a little baby.
The ending made my chest feel warm. I’m so sad their journey is over but I’m also so happy I got to read it. This was an easy 5 star read and I recommend it to anyone who can handle dark books with heavy themes.
“So use me. Use me until there’s nothing left, but let me say this, you will never have my soul.”
“I thought I could run from my demons, but it turns out they were a lot quicker than me.”
“Each day turns into a blur, the hours and weeks pass by into nothing. The days are endless. They say time heals all wounds yet my time here is just creating more wounds that will never heal.”
The Wounds We Heal is part two of the Broken Souls duet. You need to have read The Bones We Break first you won’t be disappointed this duet now lives rent free in my head and heart
We start off right where The Bones We Break finished, and that cliffhanger was a killer ….. to then start off You’re taken through what is happening to Ana it’s a nightmare, and not for the faint hearted this book is dark and cruel and would say definitely read the trigger warnings after reading it took me a hot minute to evaluate my soul because as dark as this book was I loved every page there were times I thought she isn’t making it out how much more can she take and It’s rough. Dean is a broken man, he never stops looking for Ana. I need a dean in my life that man chiefs kiss I literally couldn’t put this book down by far one of my favourite duets I’ve read Anything J.N Bamforth writes im here for she is amazing at making you feel your feelings in her writing. My hatred for Ricky is still there even more so in this book. I don’t think I’ve ever despised someone as much as him ever I wanted him to suffer. This was an easy 5 star read and I recommend it to anyone who loved dark theme genre
The Wounds We Heal is brutal, raw, and emotionally devastating, but also powerful and impossible to put down. This story doesn’t shy away from pain or trauma — it fully immerses you in survival, endurance, and the long, difficult path toward healing.
Ana’s strength is heartbreaking and relentless. Her suffering is confronting and heavy, yet it never feels gratuitous. Every moment serves the story and highlights just how much resilience it takes to keep going when everything has been taken from you.
Dean is more than a love interest — he’s a lifeline. Protective, determined, and driven by a love so fierce it borders on dangerous, he is the definition of a burn-the-world-to-bring-her-home MMC. His devotion is unwavering, and it’s impossible not to root for him.
The spice sits at a 3/5, but this book isn’t about heat — it’s about devotion, survival, and reclaiming what was stolen. The emotional weight carries this story far more than explicit scenes ever could.
This is not an easy read. It’s dark, intense, and deeply triggering at times, but the payoff is worth it. If you’re a reader who can handle heavy themes and high-stakes dark romance, this book will stay with you long after the final page.
After reading book 1, I've been waiting in anticipation for book 2 and oh my did it deliver.
I never thought my hatred for Ricky could get any bigger but oh yes it did, and boy did I cheer when Dean put a bullet in him.
Reading the horrors Ana went through throughout the book was hard/emotional to read, her fighting spirt made me so proud of Ana for not giving up her belief that Dean would come and save her. And the heartbreak Dean was going through on his journey to rescue Ana was amazing to read. Do I sound a little crazy for cheering, smiling and laughing as Dean tortured the Drug dealer and the driver? Probably, but hey, they deserved it 😁
I actually sobbed for Ana, when Ricky, brutality made sure she couldn't have children, i never thought he would stoop that low but i think it hit worse then low.
The moment Dean and Ana saw each other again brought tears to my eyes. The ending was everything I could of hoped for and more.
I am sad Dean and Ana story is over but I am so glad I went on the journey and Ana got her happy ending.
This is 100% a 5⭐️ read for me and i highly recommend.

WOW this book emotionally destroyed me in the best and worst ways. Like ?!?!?
The Wounds We Heals story didn’t just hurt, no it gutted me, tore me open, and left me sitting there in stunned silence once I finished.
Ana the FMC is the definition of a true survivor. Her pain, her strength, and her fight to keep breathing despite everything done to her felt raw and devastatingly real. An Dean? 😩 … Dean wasn’t just a protector. He was her avenging angel, the embodiment of justice wrapped in rage and devotion, willing to burn the world down to make sure she was never hurt again.
I loved this book with my entire soul, but I need to say this clearly, this story is DARK! Like not kinda no it’s PITCH BLACK. It is brutal, unflinching, emotionally heavy, and it does not soften its punches. Please, fellow readers, go in prepared. This isn’t a book to take lightly, but if you can handle it, it’s unforgettable.
J.N did her big one with this series and I’m still in shock so catch me huddled in the corner for next few days while I process this emotional breakdown of a book. 😐
⚠️ PLEASE CHECK TRIGGERS BEFORE READING. THIS IS A VERY TRIGGER HEAVY BOOK. YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS⚠️
What a way to finish this duet!! This book had me on the edge of my seat, had me crying, had me screaming, and had me wanting to throw my Kindle at the wall. The Wounds We Heal is the conclusion of The Broken Souls Duet, and by golly did Jordan deliver. It had my stomach in knots, and not a day goes by that I don't think about this book. Even though I personally have no triggers at all, there were parts of this book that even I had to take a step back from and refocus. This book is very HEAVY on the triggers, and every trigger listed in the trigger warnings is in the book, and is written in explicit detail. Not vaguely, but full frontal and in depth that it makes you feel like you're actually living in the book as the FMC.
If you read The Bones We Break amd want to know how the story ends, I highly recommend you read The Wounds We Heal, but with caution. If you have any triggers at all, then this series might not be for you.
I had the absolute honour to be asked to ARC read this book. This review does contain information that will spoil the book. Please proceed with caution.
I was really hoping that this book would be less traumatic than the first, boy was I wrong. The things Ana goes through in this short book is mind numbing! There is a new level of hate reserved for Ricky. I thought I hated him in The Bones We Break but this is an atmosphere of hatred! Then there is Ellie!! Both of them deserved days and days of torture.
Despite all the trauma and angst I am so glad that even with everything Ana went through she fought to survive. They may have broken her body, even temporarily broken her mind but her soul couldn't be broken as that was still with Dean where he was keeping it safe until he could get her back.
Such a beautifully tragic story that I am so glad has a happy ending. Although now I do need to read something fluffy and overly sweet to make up for it lol

Even when I was 'ready' to get into what I knew was coming, some parts of it exceeded my expectations. I couldn't be able to not felt every bit of suffering Ana and the rest of the girls went through. Especially with Emily. I have to admit I was sobbing while reading the way she ended.
Ana is trully a badass woman and an example of what resilience is.
And Dean, this man honored the "I'll-burn-the-world-for-you" vibe in every way possible and he did not disappoint me at all here.
Although I wish I could've had a more tortuous ending for Ricky and Nico, I can live with the one I was given.
This book has the perfect title. Dark, full of pain, rage and revenge, it wounds you and makes you go through hell and beyond in every awful way, but just the same, it gives you that breath of peace at the end that heals your heart and makes you love and learn from every scar the journey left in you.
The Wounds We Heal is book 2 of the Broken Souls duet and is a pitch black romance.
We pick straight up from book 1 and follow both Ana & Dean. From the first chapter, we see Ana’s suffering and how she tries to stay strong and not break. We also see Dean’s heartbreak and how much he fights to try save Ana.
Ricky on the other hand is one of the worst villains I’ve ever read about and deserved everything he got!!
Even though the story is very dark, it also has touching and emotional moments. Dean is the hero you hope for, and Ana is the fighter you admire, they deserved their happily ever after..
The Wounds We Heal was strong, emotional, and unforgettable ending to the duet.
Please note: This book includes heavy trauma, disturbing scenes, and explicit content. Please check trigger warnings before reading.

This book was so emotionally devastating. Reading about Ana’s awful experiences, the mental and physical pain she went through but also the psychological impacts it had on her was so heartbreaking but this was written so well!!
You need to read book 1 before you read this since it’s a duet but please check your trigger warnings!!
I’m obsessed with Dean, the way he cares for his girl?! Urgh, this man!! And his nicknames? His dirty mouth?! Yes please, he is the full package!!!
Ana is the definition of feminine rage and I absolutely love how much of a badass she was and how she never stopped fighting!
Ricky - do I need to say anything?!😡
I absolutely love this authors writing and will be waiting patiently on my knees for anything she writes🤭🫦
Massive thank you to the author for the ARC as always🖤
Wow!! What an end to Dean and Ana's story. This book brought out all the feels!! Anguish, sorrow, fury, pity, heartbreak, horror, hope, and happiness. That is something that I love about JN's writing for sure the emotions and the vibes!! I loved how Dean showed his emotions! He wasn't just I am manly man and I will find her. No he went through it and it devastated him and to see a man be that emotionally vulnerable was amazing. Plus he built her a library.....um swoon!!! Ana's strength was overwhelming! When she did finally cry, so did I, holy shit!! And that bitch of a BF, soooo got what she deserved!! I was glad to see a bit of JN's horror WTF come through in this book. Nice touch. The ending was everything I needed!! This duet was equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking and so so good!!!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Many Thanks to the author.
This book left me internally screaming. From the very first chapter there was a month’s time jump and I was not prepared! I had just read the first book in the duet again so I could read this one straight away and let me tell you my brain was in overdrive. So many emotions swirled around my head. Dean is every girls dream. He will literally burn the world for Ana. Ricky the slimy sleaze ball has no idea what was in store when he took Ana. However I was seriously shocked with some parts in this story that I did not see coming. This story has been an amazing addition and great ending to this duet! I think you’ve just gained another regular reader.
My gawd!!! This book had me from the very first sentence. The emotional, mental and physical pain and turmoil Annabelle goes through in this book was unhinged! It picks up right where The Bones We Break left off without skipping a beat.
Without giving any spoilers, the author’s take on a particularly sensitive and difficult subject was done even better than what I’ve read in the past…she just gave me feelings in this duet that I didn’t feel with the other duet with the same subject manner (IYKYK). It felt insanely realistic and genuinely terrifying. The details that she goes into made me feel like I was a fly on the wall watching it all play out in real time.
But most of all the unwavering, soul crushing love that Ana and Dean have for each other was unmatched. Dean, my man… I truly didn’t know you had that dark side but holy shit I’m here for every single second of it! Dean would literally douse the world in gasoline and light a match with zero effs given.
The ending was extremely unique and again was a realistic HEA…I’m really happy that the author didn’t end with the one trope I hate the most! Again IYKYK! LOL!
OVERALL - A highly recommend this duet! It’s going in my top 25 of 2025. At this point this author could write out a detailed grocery list with aisle numbers and I’d read it! Please check triggers because this is very graphic and heavy.
I want to start this review of with a huge thank you to J.N. Bamforth for bringing this story/world to us. After reading the first book in this duet The Bones we break , this book jumps straight back into there story. if you want to go into a truly dark world and a few twists here and there to be left shocked and unable to put this down then definitely its has delicious spice, the plot has you sitting on the edge. IT is one to definitely CHECK THE TRIGGERS, this has plenty of them. Gives you all the feels. The writing was soo good, this shal live rent free in my head till the end of days.. I LOVED THIS 😍
This was everything I wanted from book 2 it was a hard read at times because Ricky just made my blood pressure rise every time I read about him . Ana is an incredible character she is fierce and shows amazing courage and strength, dean is the definition of touch her and die he is amazing , I found myself so emotional reading this the reunion between Ana and dean sent me I sobbed , the karma for Ricky he deserved everything iv never disliked a MMC as much 🤣 make sure to read your triggers because if your not a dark romance reader this book won’t be for you it’s a pitch black read 🖤
Amazing arc thank you so so much for letting me read this 🖤
Firstly I’d like to say thank you for the opportunity to read ‘The Wounds We Heal’ as an arc.
This book has a few trigger warnings so please check them before reading.
I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for Ana and Dean. It was so good! It exceeded my expectations. This book is so well written and the author has the best creative mind! The Wounds We Heal has gore, twists and trauma of course.
If you loved The Bones We Break and want to see what happens next don’t forget to read The Wounds We Heal which comes out on the 29/12/2025! You will not be disappointed
This duet completely broke me. Ana and Dean own my heart and I’m still thinking about this story now.
The Wounds We Heal is book two in the Broken Souls duet and must be read after The Bones We Break. It picks up immediately after the cliff-hanger and pulls you straight back into the darkness, which I loved. I was so happy it picked straight back up.
This is a heavy and emotional read. Ana’s past comes crashing back into her life and watching her endure everything that follows was heartbreaking. I cried more times than I can count and had to take breaks to process what I had just read, even though the breaks were no more than a minute😂 Please take the trigger warnings seriously. This is not a light read. The author handles difficult themes with care and sensitivity. The story is raw and emotionally exhausting, but the ending feels earned.
Ana is strong, brave and resilient. Dean is everything you want in an MMC. He never stops searching for her and would do anything to keep her safe. Their reunion completely broke me. Ricky made my blood boil every time he appeared and seeing karma catch up to him was incredibly satisfying.
An easy 5 star read. Dark, emotional, and unforgettable. Thank you so much for the ARC 🖤
Very rarely do I read a book as a BETA and HOLD MY DAMN BREATH! J truly has a talent when it comes to making you feel so many emotions at once and the conclusion was nothing, but heartbreaking and beautiful.
There are some very hard moments that Ana has to go through with the trash pile of a human and let me tell you I never wanted to come through a book more in my life. . Dean is a perfect MMC and no one can tell me any difference.
Prepare yourself! This one will stomp on many nerve endings and make you want to commit atrocious crimes all in the name of Ana and others. Worth it!
This sequel picks up right where The Bones We Break left off, dragging you straight back into the darkness as Annabelle is taken and Dean becomes a man with only one purpose left: bring her home, no matter the cost. Book one practically shattered me and this one stitched me back together in the rawest way possible. Absolutely loved it and sad that the due it over but happy to see Anna and Dean get the ending they deserve.
Picked up right where The Bones We Break left off, this sequel throws you straight back into the story without any easing in. It dives headfirst into an incredibly dark, disturbing world that kept me completely hooked and genuinely shocked. The tension is nonstop, with a plot that keeps you on edge the entire time. This is not a light read by any means, check the trigger warnings before starting, because there are a lot of them.
