Cycle of a Rose

Rate this book
She wiped the blood from her lips, licked her fingers clean, and decided she rather liked the taste of this new life.

New Orleans pulses with life, but beneath its vibrant streets lurks something dark, something hungry. Rose is a young woman chasing freedom, craving adventure, and drawn to the city's shadows.

As she immerses herself in a world of art, music, and illicit desires, she discovers a seductive power simmering within her.

But the deeper she delves into the night, the harder it becomes to tell dream from nightmare, love from obsession, and hunger from something far more sinister.

In a city where secrets whisper through the alleys, Rose must decide—will she shape her own destiny, or be consumed by it?

Phenomenal
I found "Cycle of a Rose" by J. Harris & Matt Anderson to be very engaging. It starts off slow, but once it picked up, I couldn't put it down. It discusses addiction, loss, friendship, and love. Wayne lost the love of his life and turned to the bottle. Soon, the bourbon took over his life, even affecting his job. However, with the help of his friend and boss, Tony, he joined AA. Wayne believes he doesn't have a problem and doesn't want to be there, but he wants his job back, so he goes. There, he meets Rose, who he finds intriguing. Eventually, they exchange phone numbers and share texts. Then one day, they hang out at Wayne's place, and things didn't go the way Wayne thought they would.

I received a copy of this book from J. Harris, thank you for the opportunity to read this.

The blurb completely threw me off. I thought I was reading an entirely different story. But I stuck with it because overall it was a good story. And I’m really glad that I did, because OMG, the turn that it took was mind blowing. I didn’t see it coming. This story was wild. That twist threw me right off my chair. At that point, I knew I was invested. There was no way I was putting this down. Next thing I knew, I had read the entire thing. This was one hell of an awesome paranormal story. The description was so well done. The depth was amazing. Such a well written story. Absolutely loved this.

This book was sent to me by the authors - thank you! I had a hard time getting into this one, as there’s another storyline that comes into play before the books blurb comes into play. I read it slower than usual because of this I think. I likely would have felt differently if I went in blind as I was expecting a different start to the book. However! I think it’s an important part of the story, and think the authors did a great job! It’ll be staying on my bookshelf for sure.

I would like to say a big thank you to Matt Anderson for sending me a copy of Cycle Of A Rose.

Oh my god was this book good. The blurb on the back of the book was Alittle evasive so I really didn’t know what I was getting into but I’m glad I did it was so good. There’s nothing better than a well done paranormal horror!

I was a little confused at first when the blurb was talking about the main character rose and we get into a story about Wayne. But I was pleasantly shocked when you find out why you’re reading about Wayne like 🤯.

This is absolutely a must read! What?

This book is good and mysterious. Part 1 had me emotional as the characters were so real and relatable. Then there was part 2 and I was just thrown into a whole different element. I really can’t say too much more as I will not spoil the plot.

A visceral descent into the shadows of New Orleans." 🎭🩸

This story is a hauntingly beautiful journey that pulses with the same life as the city it’s set in. J. Harris has crafted an atmosphere so thick you can almost feel the humidity and hear the jazz echoing through the dark alleys of New Orleans.

What stood out:

The Atmosphere: The city isn't just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing character that lures you in. The transition from the vibrant streets to the sinister "night" is handled masterfully.

Rose’s Evolution: Watching Rose chase freedom only to find a seductive, dark power within her was captivating. Her character arc feels raw and authentic as she navigates illicit desires.

The Blur of Reality: I loved how the narrative makes it difficult to distinguish between dream and nightmare. It keeps you questioning whether what Rose feels is love, obsession, or a hunger for something far more predatory.

Verdict: If you enjoy stories that are as atmospheric as they are unsettling, Cycle of Rose is a must-read. It’s a seductive, dark, and visceral tale that explores the thin line between discovering yourself and losing yourself to the dark.

I went into this book blind, no blurb, no excerpt, NADA. I was not prepared!! This is such a good thriller that it blew my mind. Rose is a women on a mission. She was made into what she is and has devised a way to continue her life. Unfortunately for her she messed with the wrong person. Wayne is beyond depressed and sees Rose as a bright light, when they suddenly disappear, Wayne's boss decides he needs to find him. What a wild ride through all the faces of Rose. Would def read these authors again!
