This chapter book in Newbery Honor-winning and bestselling author Louis Sachar's Marvin Redpost series is all about daredevils and conquering your fears!
Everyone says that Marvin is going to ride his new mountain bike down Suicide Hill. And everyone is coming to watch him do it--his friends, his family, even his older brother. But the truth is, Marvin can't climb onto the seat without wobbling. And shifting gears? Braking? Forget about it! What's Marvin going to do?
Hilarious and relatable, Marvin Redpost is perfect for kids who love to bond with quirky characters like Junie B. Jones and George Brown, Class Clown.
Louis Sachar (pronounced Sacker), born March 20, 1954, is an American author of children's books.
Louis was born in East Meadow, New York, in 1954. When he was nine, he moved to Tustin, California. He went to college at the University of California at Berkeley and graduated in 1976, as an economics major. The next year, he wrote his first book, Sideways Stories from Wayside School .
He was working at a sweater warehouse during the day and wrote at night. Almost a year later, he was fired from the job. He decided to go to law school. He attended Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
His first book was published while he was in law school. He graduated in 1980. For the next eight years he worked part-time as a lawyer and continued to try to write children's books. Then his books started selling well enough so that he was able to quit practicing law. His wife's name is Carla. When he first met her, she was a counselor at an elementary school. She was the inspiration behind the counselor in There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom . He was married in 1985. Hisdaughter, Sherre, was born in 1987.
This is the seventh book in the Marvin Redpost series. The story shows Marvin tackling his fear of riding his new bike and giving in to peer pressure.
The story is short and entertaining and I love that the author shows Marvin as a very real character who is sometimes afraid to admit his fears and ask for help.
We enjoyed reading this story together and will borrow the last book in this series, A Magic Crystal?, from our local library soon.
A sweet, simple, and familiar story of childhood, gently embedded with some life lessons. Marvin’s classmates corner him into riding his new bike down “Suicide Hill.” He spends the week freaking out about it, while his classmates almost immediately forget. It’s an anxiety that exists almost totally in his head, divorced from external reality. My favorite thing about this one is the solid parenting on display from Marvin’s mom and dad: they are supportive and caring while giving him some leeway to make his own decisions; they show him how to be responsible and brave.
This book was a quick read and great for young readers. There were not too many words per page which I liked because it made it easier for the font to be bigger to sound out words. The story was cute, but had a quick resolution and was not what I was expecting. Marvin is anxious to be accepted by his peers but doesn’t want to ride his bike down suicide hill. However, he was dared to and his mom doesn’t mind if he goes even though he has heard horror stories about people that have ridden down it.
Everyone says that Marvin is going to ride his new mountain bike down Suicide Hill. And everyone is coming to watch him. But martin can't climb onto seat without wobbling. And he is not ready for it.

Marvin Red post is ready to conquer his fears or is he? He is going to ride his bicycle down the suicide hill!!!Will he do it can be?Very interesting book and nice way to write it.
Marvin is going to ride his new bike on suicide hill and every one is coming to watch him but Marvin can't balance his new bicycle .Friend tells tales what happen to those who ride the bike in suicide. This make Marvin more scared and he wish his mom won't allow him to ride new his bike on suicide hill, but his mom allow him to ride his bike on suicide hill. Now what will Mervin do?
It was a good book because of its leasson to face your fears. It is about a ginger who gets talked into riding down "Suiside Hill" Which was a giant hill that a lot of people got hurt on and if he didn't ride down it he would have been named a chicken and at the end. Well you will have to find out yourself.
Marvin was scared about riding his bicycle on the suicide hill. However, all of his freinds expected him to ride his bicycle. He asked his parents to buy him a mountain bicycle. How can he solve the probelm???
This book was pretty good. I read it because I liked other books written by Louis Sachar. This is actually intended for younger kids than those others, I think, but it's still nice and it had a good message.
Marvin had gotten a new bike and everyone said he was going to ride the bike down Suicide Hill. They said they would all watch him do it. Marvin hasn't told anyone that he can't get onto the bike without falling over. He's not sure what to do, but he will figure it out!
Marvin Redpost: Super Fast, Out of Control proved the first installment that left me nothing to appreciate about it. The book does not make for a terrible story for young readers, but there exists nothing clever about it, either.
It was funny that Marvin Redpost rode down Suicide Hill, but first he didn't want to and then he changed his mind. It made me wonder how scary that hill would be to ride down with a bike.
Louis Sachar is a great writer for mid-grammar school age kids--The Marvin Redpost series is a great example of his talent at accessible writing and reading for this age group
Marvin is very nervous about riding his new mountain bike. In fact, he avoids it completely. But then Nick and Stuart volunteer him to ride down Suicide Hill. Soon it's all over school and everyone plans to come and watch. Marvin is terrified, but there is no way for him to back out. He even hopes his parents will ground him. But instead, they show up to watch (even though none of his classmates show up.)
i think it was funny and exciting. It was about a boy who his friends want to ride down suicide hill he makes a excuse saying mean things about his sister to her and she tells her mom and he get’s in trouble so he can’t ride his new bike. At school he finds out that he’s going to ride down suicide hill on Saturday. On Saturday his friends did not go to suicide hill and neither did anyone who was talking about it the only people that came were his mom, dad, brother and his sister. He finally got over his fear of suicide hill and riding his new bike.
