This was my first book by Susie Larson, and what a challenge!

More Than You Can Imagine is not the kind of Christian book that simply makes you feel good and reassures you to stay where you are because God is good and will work all things for good. Larson certainly believes that—but she also wants you to grow. To honestly look at where you are and walk nearer to God.

If you're familiar with Christine Caine, whom Larson also interviews in the book, you'll recognise that gentle but sometimes firm push. This is an encouraging book, but it is not particularly interested in letting you remain comfortable.

What struck me most was its emphasis on where we fix our attention. What you behold, you become. Whatever takes up the most mental space in your life can become your leader. We forget who we are when we forget who God is, and how we think about God profoundly affects how we walk with Him.

I also appreciated Larson's approach to the things that surface in us. When our sins, fears, or unhealthy patterns become visible, we don't have to fall into condemnation or shame. Instead, we can see them as information—perhaps even an invitation. Something has surfaced, and God may be bringing it to light because He intends to deal with it.

The book repeatedly returns to faith—not as passive optimism, but as something that must be actively exercised. Faith grows in struggle and opposition, and ultimately our faith has to become our own. We grow in community, but we must personally choose to believe what God says when our circumstances tell another story.

There were so many ideas that stayed with me: we don't have to feel well to be powerful in the Spirit; God's Word must have the final word; God is not unfaithful simply because He is not finished with our story; and just because something is hard doesn't mean God is not in it.

My reason for giving it four rather than five stars is that, although there were many passages that challenged me, it didn't quite become an all-time favourite. There were also quite a lot of references to health struggles. As someone with a chronic condition myself, I could certainly relate, but at times I felt this theme came up a little too often. There were also occasional references to psychology and psychological concepts that didn't particularly appeal to me.

While Larson certainly doesn't seem to be promoting a prosperity gospel, there were moments when some of the ideas and the way they were framed simply didn't sit completely right with me. Nothing necessarily stood out as seriously wrong, but overall, it kept the book from being a five-star read for me.

Still, this is not a book for spiritual complacency. It asks you to consider what is leading your thoughts, what you are believing, what you are focusing on, and whether you are willing to trust God more than you trust yourself.

And sometimes, that is exactly the challenge we need.

Have you ever felt like you aren’t measuring up?
As if your stumbles and missteps and foibles and failings carry far more weight than they ought to, based on what the Bible says, and yet you find yourself unsure of how to really live as if your identity in Christ is the truest thing about you?
If so, then Susie Larson’s book More Than You Can Imagine could be just the book for you.

This world, it’s hard to live in. And it’s not getting any gentler, is it?
We need to understand our identity as children of the Most High God now more than ever. And our good and loving God wants us to know who we really are (and to be aware of who we are not, because our Enemy prowls around, whispering lies to us at every opportunity).

When we grab hold of God’s promises, believe that what He says about Himself and about us is fully and unwaveringly true, then we are able to point people to Jesus in ways that we simply cannot when we live unhealed and unaware of our true identity.

Who you are, and who you are not, matters.
When is the last time you considered the weight of your Christian identity?
It impacts how you think, and how you think decides the direction your life takes. It impacts what words you speak, out loud to others and internally to yourself. It holds great sway over how you spend your time, your money, and your energy. Consider it! What you think, what you speak, where you go, what you do, what you consume - virtually every single aspect of how you live your life is impacted by knowing, or failing to know, who you really are.

Having just shared so much about this topic, I can now better share my thoughts on why the book More Than You Can Imagine is so needed at this point in time.

We are not getting farther and farther away from the day when Jesus returns. It’s only getting closer second by second. And a healed, healthy, pure Church that is readying herself for His return makes a mark on this hard old world. People notice how we live as followers of the Lord. They may not all be watching us all of the time, but many are taking notice of how we live, and of how we deal with hardships and heartbreaks and struggles. A healed person living out of a healed identity makes a very different impression and impact than someone struggling to believe that they have any value or worth.

For me personally, reading this book has been a beautiful and stark reminder that my getting free and staying free matters so much to Jesus, and it ought to matter tremendously to me. The same is true for you. Jesus wants you healed and free and strong and healthy and awake. The Enemy wants the exact opposite. Which will you choose?

Consider reading More Than You Can Imagine with a notebook and a pen to write things out as you read. It’s an excellent book, but it’s not meant to be read and set aside on your nightstand. It’s meant to be read and applied to your heart and mind and soul. Life change happens when the Lord is invited in to change what needs changing. Susie’s book aids us in seeing clearly how much He loves us, and gives us real-world ways of opening our hearts to His love and healing. Reading through the book More Than You Can Imagine has indeed been more than I had expected. And I mean that in the best possible way.

I hope it does the same for you.

Some books find you when you're living in the very space between what God promised, and what you can actually see. More Than You Can Imagine is one of those books.
More Than You Can Imagine: What God Does When You Trust Him
Susie Larson writes for the person who knows there is more -- the one carrying dreams that haven't come true yet, prayers that haven't been answered the way they expected, and a story that has required far more waiting, healing, opposition, and resilience than they ever imagined.

What spoke to me the most was her exploration of fierce faith. Not faith as denial, or as striving harder until something finally happens. Or faith as hypervigilance -- the exhausting belief that if we just watch closely enough, work hard enough, pray enough, or anticipate every possible outcome, maybe we can keep from falling apart. Instead, Susie describes a faith that is active and surrendered.

There is a fine line between active faith and selfish striving. Just as there is a fine line between resting and settling. Learning to discern those differences may be some of the deepest work we do in a long waiting season.

I was also deeply struck by the way that this book talks about what our battles produce in us. We tend to look at obstacles, heartbreaks, delays, and setbacks as interruptions to the story we thought God was writing. But what if some of those very places are where we're developing the faith, resilience, discernment, and capacity we'll need for what comes next?

One tiny sentence from this book says so much: "Fruit grows in grief."

That spoke to me so directly. There is something so profoundly hopeful about believing that the hardest chapters of our lives don't have to become wasted chapters. That God can redeem our perspective without requiring us to minimize what hurt. That resilience can become evidence to someone else that it is possible to survive what once felt impossible.

I would especially recommend More Than You Can Imagine to anyone who has been in a long waiting season -- anyone living somewhere between the dreaming and the coming true.

Sometimes the distance between the promise and its fulfillment isn't empty space. Sometimes it is where God prepares us to carry what we've been asking Him for.

More Than You Can Imagine
What God Does When You Trust Him
by Susie Larson

Rated: 5 Star Rating

I just finished reading More Than You Can Imagine by Susie Larson, and it felt like a needed reality check for my faith. Susie writes like a friend, opening up about her own 30 year battle with chronic health issues to prove she knows what it means to suffer. Her main point really stuck with me: when life gets hard, the enemy attacks our identity first. A person who forgets who they are in Christ will always struggle to trust Him in uncertain areas like finances, health, or the future.

Instead of just offering vague encouragement, she opens up about the messy, relatable backstories of ordinary biblical figures who became extraordinary. She looks at Peter after his public failures to show how God gives us purpose and power. She explores Rahab rewriting her compromised past through restoration, and Joshua staring down impossible walls with supernatural strength. She even highlights the widow with the oil to show how unwavering faith multiplies our resources, and the Shunamite woman to show deliverance from deep-seated fears. She shows how God completely transformed their narratives the moment they stopped letting fear dictate their worth.

It is a slow, reflective read packed with prayers and practical questions at the end of each chapter that force you to confront your own insecurities. If you are tired of dealing with anxiety and want a grounded context to reclaim a confident peace, this book is absolutely worth a read.

Thank you, NetGalley, W Publishing/Thomas Nelson, and author Susie Larson, for providing me with a copy of this ebook for review consideration. All review opinions are my own.

Trusting God when the answers do not come is the honest territory this book walks from the very first page. The author writes in a devotional style that feels warm rather than heavy and the whole thing unfolds like time spent with a wise friend. She narrates the audiobook herself and the sincerity in her voice carries the harder passages with real gentleness. I listened during a season when a few prayers in my own life were sitting unanswered and these chapters met me there without rushing me toward a tidy resolution. My faith background is Catholic and somewhat lapsed these days yet I felt completely at home in these pages since the focus stays on God's character rather than on denominational fences.

There is an emphasis on waiting well and on noticing the quiet ways provision shows up that I found genuinely strengthening. The writing has a way of making surrender sound like relief instead of defeat and I underlined that thought more than once in my head. A handful of chapters cover ground that felt familiar from years of faith reading and I moved through those at a comfortable skim. Even the familiar sections carried a freshness because of the personal stories woven through them. I finished listening feeling more patient with the unfinished parts of my own story.

The prayers woven through the chapters gave me language for a few things I had only been carrying around as sighs. I have returned to a couple of my favorite sections on hard mornings and they have held up beautifully to rereading. It has earned a permanent spot in my listening library for the days when waiting feels long. Few devotionals manage to be both tender and sturdy and this one is genuinely both. If your heart is tired this is a kind and steady companion for the wait.

I’m not really sure what I was expecting, but it was not this.
I feel like I was just gently given the most beautiful ((hug)) from God himself.

The author has a way of reminding you that what you do is totally up to you, BUT, if you leave it in the healing hands of the Lord himself, well… anything is possible.

She goes through many personal stories, both hers, and those of friends, as well as Biblical re-tellings that remind you of what a powerful force God is!

Not that he will step in and make everything right, but that he will be there to guide and comfort you through all the crazy mazes of life itself… and hold you in his hands when the floor falls out from under you.

Beautifully written with prayers interspersed throughout.

If you are a Catholic/Christian, I definitely recommend this one for you!

4 beautiful, bold, God-Loving stars for me! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

If you've ever wondered how to trust God more deeply and grow closer in relationship with Him, this book will deliver.

Susie Larson writes with such humility and raw authenticity that you can't help but relate. Reading her books always feels like sitting across from a trusted mentor rather than just reading another book. She speaks from experience in excruciatingly hard seasons of life and shows readers how to draw closer to Jesus while trusting Him to do "exceedingly more than all we can ask or imagine."

Each chapter includes thoughtful questions that invite you to dig deeper into the Word and listen for what God is saying. This isn't a quick read. Even though I read it in full for pre-release, I know I'll be returning to it many times where I will highlight, take notes, and continue to pray and listen to what the Lord wants to teach me.

This book confronts the gap between how God sees us and how the world tells us to see ourselves. As Larson writes, "If you're wrong about Jesus' identity, you'll be wrong about yours."

If you struggle to trust God with everything, I can't recommend this book enough. You'll come away feeling challenged, convicted in the best way, blessed, and refreshed all at once. Susie clearly has a gift for sharing God's heart with others.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for this advanced copy!!

"You'll never experience the best of what God has for you if your fears mean more to you than God's love." That quote alone stopped me in my tracks, but this book is full of wisdom like that!

What I enjoyed most is how Susie Larson speaks against giving into fears and life's stresses; not in a finger-shaking, 'you better believe God right now or else' sort of way, but in a deeply honest, compassionate way. In a tone that shows she's lived it herself a time or two. It's more of: life is really freaking hard... but God really, really is better than you can ever imagine.

This book reminded me that God is so much greater, kinder, and more faithful than any fear and than any of life's stresses. I've read a lot of uplifting, 'you've got this!' type of books, and this wasn't that. It challenged me to recognize with Biblical truth that I have a choice, I have agency, to either trust my fears or trust God, His proven character, and His word.

Highly recommend this book if you're going through a hard season or just need some refreshment. Larson talks about feeling overwhelmed, afraid, unsure of what's ahead. She touches on health challenges, insecurity, learning to stand in truth, and the gift of community when you need to borrow someone else's faith to bolster your own.

This felt less like reading a self help book and more like sitting down with a friend who keeps gently pointing you back to God when life gets loud. Susie Larson doesn't promise easy answers, but she offers a lot of encouragement, Scripture, and reminders that our identity is found in Christ... Not in our circumstances.

I especially enjoyed that Susie narrated the audiobook herself. Her passion and sincerity came through in every chapter, and Mike Carnes complemented the listening experience well. At just 4 hours and 39 minutes, it was an easy audiobook to finish over a couple of days.

If you're in a season where your faith feels stretched or you simply need a reminder that God is still working, this is worth picking up.

Susie Larson’s More Than You Can Imagine is a beautiful blend of encouragement, biblical truth, and practical wisdom. What I appreciate most about Susie’s writing is that she doesn’t simply inspire you—she gently challenges you to take what you are learning and actually live it out.

Throughout this book, Susie reminds us that God is always doing more than we can see and that His plans for our lives are often greater, deeper, and more meaningful than we could imagine for ourselves. Her words encourage you to trust God more fully, recognize the ways He is working in your everyday life, and live with greater faith and expectancy.

I especially appreciated the practical wisdom woven throughout the book. It gave me things to reflect on, pray about, and apply to my own life. Susie writes with the warmth of a trusted friend while continually pointing the reader back to God and His promises.

This is the kind of book that leaves you encouraged but also invites you to grow. I would highly recommend More Than You Can Imagine to anyone who wants to deepen their faith, strengthen their trust in God, and be reminded that He may be doing far more in their life than they can currently see.

This book is a great reminder of your identity in Christ. Susie is an excellent writer. This book reminded me of who I am in Christ, and how in Him I have victory over the lies of the enemy. I enjoyed the topic and the teachings.

However, this book lacked depth in some areas of teaching. A couple chapters focused so much on the relatable stories, and in those cases, the details felt like the author was oversharing someone else's experience. Those seemed to overpower the Bible teaching and caused me to forget the actual takeaway from those chapters.

I also did not like how the author used the name "Maya" in chapter 9 to recount a Bible story where a woman's name was not mentioned. There was no statement to say "She wasn't given a name in Scripture, so let's call her Maya." This is not accurate teaching and frustrated me.

Overall, I thought the writing and biblical truths were a strength for this book. I enjoyed reading it, and there were a lot of memorable statements to hold onto. The application questions at the end of each chapter made for good reader reflection.

“More Than You Can Imagine” by Susie Larson is a powerful book filled with biblical truths. This book touches on numerous topics, such as trusting God, standing firm in faith, walking in the Spirit, listening to God’s voice, finding healing in God’s arms, and much more. And each topic is tied well together with a broader theme of God’s love for us. The author shares personal stories, biblical stories, and stories from friends as well. Each of the stories shared highlights the points the author is making, in a relatable, down-to-earth way. The book is divided into ten chapters, with an encouraging prayer at the end of each chapter. I love the way the author writes for two reasons. She is clear and easy to understand. Yet she also writes with a powerful, underlying theme of faith. I am thankful I read this book as it had helped me draw closer to God and stand stronger in my faith.

It is hard to imagine the scope of God.  His goodness, love, mercy, grace.  With chapters such as, “God Strengthens Me and Moves My Mountains” or “ God Owes Me Nothing, but Gives Me Everything”, Susie Larson explores just how great God is, how deeply He loves us and much He desires a relationship with us.  She draws from her experiences to encourage us to see ourselves as God sees us, to set our sights on things above and grow to trust Him more.
She uses the lives of ordinary people to show how God can do more than we can imagine when we walk with Him.  “He is still a miracle working God. He is still the One who parts the waters, who creates beauty out of ashes and who redeems stories in the unfathomable ways.”
You will find encouragement to “trust God more than your fears – this is what it means to walk with God. The more you know Him for who He truly is, the more you’ll absolutely love Him, and the more clearly you’ll see yourself as He sees you.”

Susie Larson’s “More Than You Can Imagine” doesn’t offer any groundbreaking insights, but is full of helpful reminders and encouragement.

Ultimately, as a Child of God, we are called to trust God with whatever we experience. Larson does a really good job reminding us of Biblical truths to help us get our eyes off of our situations and back on our Heavenly Father who loves us.

Susie’s passion about this subject and personal anecdotes come across as helpful, rather than just Christian bumper sticker theology. Her passion really shows up in her narration of the audiobook.

If you are needing encouragement when you are going through things or just feel like you are stuck in your relationship with Jesus, this is a great way to refocus.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

I received an advanced digital/audio copy from NetGalley. This book has activated and fired up my faith! God always sends just the right thing at the right time, doesn’t He? Susie Larson is one of my top 3 authors of all time and I devour everything that she writes. This book is, however, now one of my favorites! Why? Because Susie’s writing is authentic and vulnerable and captivating. She writes about real stories and real people. In this book she tells the story of her husband Kevin having an encounter with God that changed him. As I read this, my heart resonated with his experience and my thirst to experience Jesus deepened. I have pre-ordered several copies before it actually comes out on 8/11/26! But buyer beware! Only read this book if you want to be genuinely and deeply encouraged in your walk with Jesus!

I am blessed to be part of the launch team of this new book.

Susie Larsen is a Christian author who can be counted on to write with authenticity. Her faith is rooted deep because she has turned to God in her life long health issues. Her newest book does not disappoint. It is full of encouragement to trust God in hard times but she also speaks truths that I have never heard before. For example; when Abraham obeyed God and received the promise of God, he was living in a tent in a foreign land. He felt like an outsider. Insights like these from Susie's "pen" prepares us all to expect hardships even when we are in obedience to Jesus. Susie builds a vision throughout the book so that readers are encouraged to look beyond the struggles of this life and trust God to use them for something much greater.

|It's a good book!

I appreciated the overall message of trusting God, remembering who we are in Him, and not allowing fear or insecurity to control our lives. There were definitely some encouraging reminders throughout the book that resonated with me.

That being said, the repeated emphasis on spiritual warfare, attacks from the enemy, and nearly every struggle being framed in those terms became a little too “holy roller” for me. 😂 I’m a Christian and enjoy faith-based books, but this one felt a little heavier-handed than what personally connects with me. It also became repetitive in places.

I didn’t dislike it, and I can absolutely see it being the perfect book for someone who prefers this style of Christian teaching. It simply wasn’t quite the right fit for me.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m a big fan of Susie Larson’s books, and I was eager to read her newest one. As usual, I felt affirmed, convicted, challenged, and guided by the Holy Spirit after reading her words. What makes this book unique from others is the powerful testimonies from Susie and others she has known. These stories truly challenge you to put hope in more than you can imagine, based on God’s power. The book also has helpful resources in the back for individual or group use - a quick Bible study on each chapter, a list of reflection questions, and a topical group of Bible verse prayer prompts. I highlighted several deep, meaningful passages to ponder more and use for my personal prayer time. It is one of the most impactful books I have read this year.

As a longtime reader of Susie Larson’s work, I always look forward to her newest releases—and More Than You Can Imagine does not disappoint. Susie has a remarkable gift for speaking directly to the heart with deep biblical wisdom, warmth, and gentle truth.

Speaking from both her own journey and those of others shared with her, she consistently provides deep biblical insight and hope. Page after page, it gently refocused my heart and invited me into a closer, more intimate walk with God.

If you are navigating a challenging season, supporting others who are, seeking fresh spiritual renewal, or simply wanting to deepen your faith journey, this book is for you. It is a beautiful reminder of God's overwhelming goodness and presence in every season.

I love this book for many reasons, but the first and foremost is the common thread of the truth of God’s character. There are so many stories that Susie wove in, and tied all of them beautifully together to remind you that God is who He says He is.

Personally, I’m in a season of needing to remember that He is capable of so much more than what my problems want me to believe, so it came at a perfect time.

The phrase “you’re either in a storm, about to go into one, or you’re walking out” is so true. This is a perfect companion if you’re in a battle; and great mental training ground to prepare you for any storms that loom ahead.

Biblical, relatable, and full of wisdom. I wouldn’t hesitate to add this to your shelf! 🤍

This book is a gem! I heard some of Susie’s story on a podcast recently and decided to grab this book from the library because of it. I’m so glad I did because I really can’t recommend it enough if you need encouragement to keep following and trusting God despite difficult circumstances.
It is full of love and encouragement and conviction and overwhelming trust in the goodness of God. I totally loved it!

Favorite Quote:”While Job was still in physical agony, God asked him to pray for those whose had only added to his pain. Imagine how that would feel. But Job had just encountered God and did not hesitate to obey Him. Unaware of how his story would unfold, in his sick body, Job prayed for his healthy, self-righteous friends.”

As always Susie is able to bring us back to the goodness of God and His heart of love and compassion towards us. Through many different stories of those who have placed their trust in the Lord and opened their heart to Him and His transformative love, we are being encouraged to walk deeper with God. Susie asks hard questions that let us challenge our actions and/or beliefs, all with the goal that we would encounter God as He truly is, good, kind, and trustworthy. I always look forward to reading a book by Susie Larson, and this one did not disappoint. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants to go deeper in their walk with God.

Susie Larson writes with a genuine voice about her experiences with God in her ministry and life’s journey. Her current book, More Than You Can Imagine, has provided me with words of wisdom and scriptural references as I have struggled with trusting God during a difficult season in my life. It has been a privilege to be a member of her Launch Team for this book, participating in online discussions with Susie and other women and we read through the book prior to publication. I can’t wait to receive my hard copy so I can go back and reread the chapters that were so meaningful to me. I highly recommend the book!

“Just because something is hard doesn’t mean God’s not in it.” Susie's practical, applicable encouragement causes me to deeply consider the depth of my relationship with the Lord and the fruit I am bearing for Him. After reading More Than You Can Imagine: What God Does When You Trust Him, I feel better equipped to hear Him more clearly, walk more boldly in my giftings, and be confident that He is trustworthy - no matter how my current reality appears. This is a great book for taking a dive into still waters of a closer relationship with the Lord where the obstacles of life take a backstage to His lovingkindness.

This book has been just what I need for where I have been and still am. Chapter 4 spoke to me "What am I afraid of?". As Susie said "God is big enough to handle my issues - more than big enough. I am a child of God! You will face opposition, delays and detours when you trust God and follow His lead. Don't be dismayed by obstacles!" I have learned to hold tightly to the phrase "BUT GOD" and this book reinforces that phrase. I would highly recommend this book, whether you are in a new season of trust or your trust is being tested, this book will uphold you and strength your faith. As the book says many times over, "Activate your Faith!"

I received an ARC from NetGalley to provide an unbiased review.

I liked this book a lot. I listened to audiobook and Susie reads it, so it's nice to hear the author!

She does a great job of showing how God has shown up in the lives of many people who have trusted the Lord and shares a story with every chapter.

I have read several of her books, so much of the content of this book was a review, however, still very valuable. The stories are new.

If you are new to Susie Larson's writing and looking for a more practical version of relating this to your life, I highly recommend "Waking Up to the Goodness of God: 40 Days Toward Healing and Wholeness" as it is much more applicable to your daily walk.

4.5 stars.

This book was a much-needed reminder of God's faithfulness. In More Than You Can Imagine, Susie talks about trusting God even when things are hard. I'm currently in a season of leaning on the Lord for things I don't understand, and this book reminded me why I can trust Him. Susie shares her journey with Lyme disease as well as testimonies of others who have walked through hard seasons. I left this book feeling even more encouraged to continue to depend on the Lord even when things don't make sense.

Highly recommended for those wanting to learn to trust God more.

Thank you, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley, for the ARC of this book.

Encouraging, spiritually challenging, grace filled, hopeful. Susie Larson speaks from experience and a place of overcoming- prompting through hope and the truth of scripture. No nonsense in her trust. Humble in her estimation of herself. Compassionate in her love for others. Reverent in her devotion to her savior, Jesus and our all knowing God. I listened to the audio version and loved hearing her voice (PERFECT for radio- there is a reference to this in one of the stories). Chapters are different topics and stories of hope.
At the end of the book there were interviews w/others who overcame personal challenges- great faith building life accounts!

Do you long to trust God more with your life, especially the hardest parts of your story? Has your faith become routine, and you wonder if there’s more - more to having a relationship with God, or if you were made for more? Then I highly recommend Susie Larson’s book, More Than You Can Imagine. Through stories and God’s Word, she inspires, challenges, and peels back the layers to help readers see who God is and who He created us to be, which brings unimaginable change to the way we live loved and trust Him.

More Than You Can Imagine: What God Does When You Trust Him

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learned a lot from it.

Larson is an excellent writer, and I found it an extremely uplifting and hopeful read.

The big takeaway I got from it, is seeing yourself through God's eyes instead of the world's - it really puts a lot of things into perspective

Definitely check this book out! I recommend it.

Thank you Netgalley for the review copy!
