Genesis wasn’t looking for rescue—only for space to breathe. Between long shifts at the café and the noise inside her own head, she’d learned to survive by staying busy, joking her way through the ache that never fully left. Then an unexpected call from a childhood friend reopens a wound she thought had finally healed, forcing her to confront the truth about what was taken from her a year ago.
When Aurora—older, patient, and quietly magnetic—returns to the city, the easy comfort between them deepens into something lasting. A day that begins with laughter ends with an act of cruelty from strangers, sending Genesis to Aurora’s quiet lake house in Raymond. There, surrounded by still water and new silence, she learns what peace—and surrender—can feel like.
What grows between them is slow and trust, care, and a love that asks to be chosen every day.

4 stars. FINALLY! I’ve been wanting more of Genesis and Aurora’s story and this was really good. Now I have to wait for book three. I love how tender and full of trust the relationship is between them and while Genesis is still working through trauma Aurora is there for her every step of the way and it’s beautiful.
