⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book absolutely wrecked me—in the most delicious, heart-clenching way.
Easton Henley is the kind of grumpy, hot-headed hockey hero I live for, and watching his world implode and rebuild was chef’s kiss. The second he walks into that veterinary clinic and comes face-to-face with Palisade, the tension is instant, thick, and impossible to ignore. Their chemistry didn’t fade over six years—it fermented into something explosive.
Palisade is strong, guarded, and fiercely protective, and I loved that she wasn’t instantly forgiving or soft. Her reasons felt real. Messy. Human. And then there’s Casey—who completely stole my heart. The way Easton slowly bonds with her had me smiling one minute and blinking back tears the next.
The secret baby reveal? DEVASTATING. The fallout? Even better. High emotion, high stakes, and just enough angst to make the payoff incredibly satisfying. Add in media pressure, a career on the line, and a hero who will burn the world down to protect his family, and I was glued to every page.
This story delivers steam, swoon, and soul. If you love second-chance romance, secret babies, and grumpy alpha heroes who fall hard and fight harder—this one is an absolute must-read.
I was selected to read this book as an ARC, and it did not disappoint. This was my first time reading anything by this author, and I really enjoyed her writing style. One of my favorite aspects of the story was Easton’s character growth throughout the book—I absolutely loved his character.
Easton and Palisade shared one unforgettable night together seven years ago, but when Easton woke up the next morning, she was gone. When their paths cross again years later, Easton discovers that Palisade has been keeping a life-changing secret from him. Will Easton be able to forgive her and give her a second chance? You’ll have to read Falling for the Assist to find out!
The first chapter pulls you in. It's one of those you just have to keep reading to see what happens next. You get to know the characters early on and following them through their journey together is sometimes heart-warming and sometimes heart-breaking. A worthwhile read.
I really liked how Krys wrote Easton and Palisade's story. It really seems like you were watching in real time all of the ups and downs of their life. There's tension, secrets, love, anger and healing!
- ONS / secret baby - Second chance romance - Protective and grumpy MMC - cinnamon roll only for them - Forced proximity - Best friend’s brother
First of all, a thank you to the author for letting me be an ARC reader for Falling for the Assist. I also received the prequel, One Night Only, from the author, which gave the story a whole other level! This book can be read without the prequel, but I would recommend it.
This review is 100% my honest opinion! __________
Easton Henley is the hockey captain for Shadow Wolves. He’s dealing with some anger issues and ends up in court after a car crash where he’s ordered community service at an animal clinic. And guess who’s the doctor? Palisade Honors, his sister’s BFF, whom he had an ONS with seven years ago and hasn’t been able to forget. When he’s suddenly face to face with Palisade’s daughter, Casey, with his exact blue eyes, he can’t help feeling like she’s something special. Not only because she’s very into hockey like him but also because he’s feeling connected to her on a deeper level. But why? When he finds out the truth, he’s NOT playing around about Casey. But being a star hockey player and suddenly having a daughter gets rumors going, and the media’s loving it!
Falling for the Assist by Krys Rayne was such an emotional, addictive read. I went in for the hockey romance and stayed for the heartbreak, healing, and second-chance love. Easton Henley is the ultimate bad boy on the verge of losing everything he’s worked so hard for. Yes, there’s hockey and the intensity on the ice — but what really pulled me in was watching Easton battle his anger and self-destruction off the ice. He’s fighting everyone, including himself, and it’s messy, raw, and real. Palisade coming back home to build her life as a veterinarian brings such a strong contrast to Easton’s chaos. Her world is structured, quiet, and carefully controlled… especially with the six-year secret she’s been carrying. When their paths collide again, the sparks are instant. It’s clear their one-night stand years ago meant a lot more than either of them wanted to admit — and six years definitely didn’t erase that chemistry. The connection between them felt intense and emotional, not just physical. I loved the tension, the history, and the way their story unfolded. This was my first book by Krys Rayne, but it absolutely won’t be my last. I devoured this in two days — it had me hooked from start to finish. 🏒💙
Falling For The Assist ( The Amber Falls Hockey Series Book 1 ) what you get 💜 a second chance romance 💜secret baby 💜one night stand 💜hockey romance 💜grumpy alpha hero’s 💜secrets 💜revelations 💜love 💜anger 💜misunderstandings and miscommunications 💜flawed characters that are just so likable and relatable 💜a story that is guaranteed to wreck you in all the best ways 💜family , friendships and so much more Omg guys !!! Easton and Palisades story was everything just everything!! The way it touched my heart and resonated with me on so many levels I cannot even find the words to describe. How in love I fell with both characters ( I think what I loved most about them besides the connection and the insane chemistry they shared was the fact that they had to overcome so many obstacles and struggles to find their happy ending. All the different layers and complexities to their relationship just kept me on the edge of my seat and devouring every single word from start to finish. I smiled, I laughed, I ugly cried and I cheered so freaking hard . This book , the absolutely amazing, beautiful and emotional love story is one everyone needs to reads . It truly is chefs kiss 💋
This was such an emotional, layered second-chance hockey romance. Palisade has worked incredibly hard to build a stable life for herself and her daughter. Years ago, she made a difficult decision that shaped both of their futures — one rooted in fear, protection, and survival. When Easton unexpectedly reenters her life, old chemistry resurfaces, but so do unresolved feelings and hard truths. Easton, now the captain of his hockey team, isn’t the same man he once was. I really appreciated that this story focuses on growth. He has flaws — especially when it comes to managing his anger — but he actively works on himself, which made his character arc feel earned and authentic. He’s protective, intense, and brings that confident, slightly dominant energy to the romance, but there’s real emotional depth underneath it. The tension between them feels raw and believable, and the family dynamics add so much heart without overpowering the romance. There’s outside pressure, personal accountability, and plenty of swoony moments that make you root for them. If you love: Second-chance romance Hockey captain hero Strong single mom heroine Emotional growth + spice This one delivers.
One night… one memorable night… six years go by… secrets… Easton is a talented player with severe anger management issues that can tank his career and his future. When a court-ordered community service makes him face the woman who got away six years ago without a word, old feelings resurface. Dr. Palisade Honors is driven, professional and focused on the happiness and well-being of her daughter, but when Easton re-enters her life, all the secrets she has been hiding, threaten to spill over and ignite conflict. A second-chance romance with a griping plot that will have you hooked from chapter one: you will fight alongside the characters for their happily ever after. Easton has to face his past demons to move forwards and become a better person and a better example and Palisade has to trust that he can be that man. Falling for the Assist is a beautiful story of redemption, true love, second chances, sacrifice and family. Krys Rayne gives us a compelling romance with a lot of self-growth, protection, emotional support and spice. Thank you for the ARC.
Give me a minute while I wipe my tears. This book absolutely wrecked me. Then it put me back together again. Easton got himself into quite a mess. And after paying for the accident and the horses, is sent to do community service at the vet hospital. The vet one that Palisade happens to work at. They’ve got history and then some…after one unforgettable night together, he wakes up to find her gone. A few weeks later she finds it she’s pregnant. But she never tells Easton. If I were him I’d be devastated to miss out on six years of my child’s life because I didn’t know about her. But Palisade has her reasons. It really got to me when Casey developed such a relationship Easton. Loved it that Palisade didn’t just immediately let him into her life. And absolutely loved that Easton earned his way into their lives. His growth really caught my heart. This book was so wonderfully written, with so much depth and emotion. This is the first time I’ve read this author and it won’t be my last. Thx so much for allowing me to be a part of your ARC team.
This was good! Easton and Palisade were great together. Their chemistry was undeniable. I liked that neither forgot the other even after all these years. Casey was an adorable addition to their story. She opened Easton's eyes and heart in so many ways. He had a choice to make. He had hit rock bottom. What was he going to do with his second chance? I loved his growth. I loved that he learned accountability. He continually tried to do the right thing. And he did succeed. He learned what really matters in life. Palisade learned that as well. She was so independent and so scared of opening her heart. She had to learn to let go and let the good things life had to offer in, even if it's scary and life is fragile. I absolutely loved their growth, not only for their character, but with their relationship. They became a real family. Easton got to be an amazing dad. It was perfect.
I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
this book pissed me off to no bounds so first we get a hot head player and we see him crash into a trailer of horses. I may be just a heartless bitch but what was with all the crying and tears and the whole who cares about me go check them. like the paramedics aren't gna be able to save the horse they work on humans stfu and get checked. this whole big deal about the horses didn't make sense to me I only felt bad about the racing horse because that was upsetting. then we have this stupid bitch Sadie , the girl is fucking friends with his sister No. this actually evil bitch stood there and tried to say she was scared. OF WHATT . As far as I'm concerned he didn't do shit to you but lay in bed after a good fuck . BITCH MOVE THE HELL ON WITH YOUR INSECURITIES. you are the actual problem in this entire book and I ain't forgiving her. if I was him full custody would've been snatched up so quick dumb bitch. She ACC deserves nothing shes fucking evil and Easton didn't deserve it

I honestly loved this book so much! Thank you for letting me ARC read and review this book! 💗
Falling for the Assist has a lot to unpack and it starts off intense. It has secrets that lead to anger and chaos, second chances for two people who never stopped thinking about the other, redemption for the hockey star with anger issues, protectiveness from both parents when their daughters life is turned upside down, healing and forgiveness and of course some spicy scenes. This was such an enjoyable read. The story starts off with Easton’s anger issues and the consequences he has to face from those issues. Even though he has said he doesn’t have anger problems and has to do court ordered therapy, he takes it seriously. He wants to better himself not just for him and his career, but for Palisade and their daughter Casey. Easton and Palisade go through a lot of chaos, ups and downs, self growth and sacrifice/risk to finally get their happily ever after
Falling For the Assist was a great read. From the very first chapter, I was hooked—this is one of those hockey romances that grabs you fast and never lets go. I fully planned to pace myself… and then promptly finished it in a single day because I couldn’t put it down.
This love story delivers all the feels: tension, chemistry, and emotional depth that makes you root so hard for the characters to just get out of there own way. The romance feels earned, the hockey backdrop adds just the right edge without being too sporty. Even with hockey being a main theme.
If you love swoony hockey romances with depth, passion, and that “just one more chapter” pull, this book is a must-read. Easily a five-star read for me.
Palisade and Easton have to come to terms with their tangled history when he is court ordered to community service at her vet clinic. She ran 6 years ago after their one night together. They have never forgotten. But, secrets can't stay hidden forever.
The love written between these pages was chef's kiss. The love between Easton and Casey, Easton and Palisade. The longing from time missed, and the pining for the future. It had me rooting for them. Wanting them to figure it out. For Sadie and Easton to give in. Easton had me swooning at all the ways he showed up for them.
This book pulled me in from the beginning. Palisade and Easton shared one night together 7 years ago and Palisade had a little surprise that came from that night named Casey. Easton is a hockey player with anger issues and Palisade is a veterinarian, after Easton gets in trouble he has to do community service and its a the clinic Palisade owns. Palisade’s daughter is just too cute and i love how she loves hockey and how she knows the stats, Casey and Easton develop a relationship no how he is teaching her some tricks and I love the way Easton is with Casey. I couldn’t get enough of this book and I don’t want to give anymore way but you should do your self a favor and add this to your TBR. Thank You Krys for letting me be part of this ARC..
Falling for the Assist by Krys Rayne MMC: Easton Henley FMC: Dr. Palisade Honors —>Secret Baby —>Second Chance Romance —>Grumpy/Sunshine —>Forced Proximity —>Protective Hero/Cinnamon Roll Dad
Falling for the Assist is a second-chance, secret baby hockey romance about Shadow Wolves center Easton Henley, whose court-ordered community service brings him face-to-face with Dr. Palisade Honors—the woman who disappeared after one unforgettable night six years ago. When he realizes her hockey-obsessed daughter Casey might be his, everything he thought he knew gets turned upside down.
You wont be disappointed. She is his sister's best friend and they had a one night stand., which a few weeks later she discovered a huge secret fast forward 6 years. They meet again. He is involved in a horrible accident in which some horses are injured. Hes sentenced to community service and has to pay to the owner of the horses. He has to do community service at her vet office. From there their relationship grows and intensifies. This book will pull you into the story. I loved it and cant wait for more
This book was everything I needed and more! I absolutely loved it. I felt like I was in the story. Easton starts out as a hot headed hockey player and watching him grow in so many ways through the book was such a heartwarming adventure!I also enjoyed watching Palisade grow and learn to trust throughout the book. The writing was so good and pulled me in from page one and it was so amazing watching this family come together and work through everything that was thrown at them. I am a sucker for some hockey romance and this one was definitely 10 out of 10.!
Make sure u read One Night Only before u read this book
Easton got into some trouble and has to do community service at the veterinarian clinic and to his suprise when he sees Palisade and her 6 year old daughter Casey, who has his eyes. Holly and Palisade was so wrong for not tellin Easton all the secrets that they had been keepin. Casey is a doll that loves hockey and is very good at it too. This was definitely a roller-coaster ride it had me so mad and irritated cause Easton didn't deserve not to know. This was a good read.
Troupe: - hockey romance - second chance - secret baby - forced proximity - grumpy/sunshine - found family - Light BDSM - protective hero - HEA
This book was an emotional roller-coaster from start to finish. Easton and Palisade chemisty is off the charts, and so good to read. I really love Easton's character development the way he changes himself to become better. Palisade has some huge insecurities of her own to face and she allows herself to be vulnerable which i really liked reading.i really like this one
This story was a beautiful tragedy that came full circle to amazing happiness. Love Casey and all her wonderful shenanigans. The way Easton tried so hard to be everything that they all needed working on himself for so much self growth. The confidence that Sadie gains in herself throughout is great. Highly recommend reading One Night Only (novella) first for background information. Krys knocked this one out of the park as usual.
Palisade has a secret and it was one that she thought she was going to be able to keep for a long time. Until the day Easton Henley walked through her door. Then she knew that all bets were off. She just hoped that she didn't hurt anyone with it.
Easton couldn't believe that he walked into the person that he thought he would be with for awhile. But after a one night stand she ghosted him.
Loved reading Sadie and Easton’s story. They were so perfect for each other, and Casey was just adorable. There were a few continuity issues, but as this is an ARC, most of those will be edited in the final draft. I loved the focus on mental health and importance of healing yourself before you can love others. Definitely recommend!
Ok first of all I think Palisade and Holly more than even her were at fault and wrong on all levels not to tell him, no matter what they thought or felt. And as a sister you have family obligations, sorry no excuses for that. Palisade was not my favorite person. Easton handled everything pretty well. It was a bit hot and cold and a bit hard to believe but otherwise a good solid story.
I loved it. It was a great amount of drama and heartache and love and spice. Sadie and Easton might have done things backwards but they came back together to build a family and a life. She’s needed to prove she could do it and be everything and he also most lost his career. Lots of ups and downs to keep them part and together.
This was a great read, I practically devoured it. If you are looking for a hockey romance that has tension, chemistry, anger issues that have severe consequences even if you have money to pay your way out, and a secret that could male or break someone then this is for you. You can feel the emotion while reading, it's definitely worth the read!
This is such an emotional second chance book. Sadie spends the night with Easton but runs before the morning. Seven years later Easton a pro hockey player finds himself back in his life because of his temper. Sparks fly again because of spending so much time together. A seven year secret comes out. This is a must read book but please read the Trigger warnings
