Middle School and Other Disasters #5

Най-злополучното желание на света

Rate this book

This book was a little slow to take off, but the part about Heidi’s wish was very interesting and enjoyable. I think middle school kids will enjoy the fifth book written about middle school and other disasters.

🧙‍♀️✨ Ever have one of those days where a little magic seems like the perfect solution until it makes everything worse?

These fun-filled middle grade adventures are packed with magic, friendship, school drama, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that make Heidi Heckelbeck such a lovable character.

In Freakiest Trip Ever!, Heidi finds herself facing a talented new rival at Broomsfield Academy. What starts as a friendly competition quickly spirals into a magical adventure full of surprises. I loved the museum field trip setting and the way the story balanced humor, teamwork, and lessons about jealousy and self-confidence. Watching Heidi learn that being the best isn't always what matters most made for a fun and meaningful read.

Worst Wish Ever! delivers another magical mishap when Heidi tries to solve a very relatable problem: being in two places at once. Between a talent show, a big test, and a crush, her solution seems simple until the magic creates even more chaos. I found myself smiling at Heidi's determination, even when her plans went spectacularly wrong. The story is full of humor while also highlighting the importance of making thoughtful choices and believing in yourself.

What I enjoyed most about both books was how accessible and entertaining they are for young readers. The magical adventures are exciting, but the real heart of the stories comes from Heidi's friendships, challenges, and growth along the way. These are perfect picks for readers who enjoy witchy fun, school stories, and plenty of magical mishaps.

✨️ Thank you, Simon Kids and Wanda Coven, for sharing the Worst Wish Ever! and the Freakiest Trip Ever! with me!

#5 in this series
Heidi yet again has a dilemma to solve. She "needs" to be two places at once - taking her test and spending time on a first date. Prior to this, readers see her focusing on learning to control her magic and gifts. We also see her friendship with Melanie develop further. As expected, something goes very wrong with her spell and her teachers have to step in and fix everything. Heidi sees the real consequences from her foolish decision, and, hopefully, learns and grows in self control.
This book fell a bit flat for me. I understand the premise with the series title but it seems like we never see Heidi actually mature. She continues to make decisions in the moment and even when she knows they aren't the best choices at some level, she continues to make them.

I loved this book. It will have a punishment and a surprise that will surprise. You will not believe what bind Heidi Helena Heckelbeck gets herself into.
