For too long we have looked for leadership lessons from experts who only believe in fifty percent of reality. As Christ followers we believe in both a visible material realm, and an invisible spiritual realm. We must stake our claim as those who live and walk in both the visible and invisible worlds simultaneously. To lead the unique organism that is the body of Christ, whether in a church, a business or our families, true spiritual leadership must know how to navigate both of these realms, and in particular, understand the intersection between these two worlds. Knowing only how to impact the world we see may actually impair our ability to impact the world we do not see. If all of our knowledge and experience is from and about the visible world, we are operating half-blind as kingdom citizens. Think Differently, Lead Differently is that guidebook that points us toward the intersection of the material and spiritual realms, and teaches the important ideas and skills to lead in both.
Bob Hamp is an author, speaker, and teacher proclaiming the freedom offered through the gospel. Coming from an unchurched background, he was unexpectedly ambushed by an encounter with God that changed the direction and foundation of his life forever. His unique slant on the Gospel is the result of looking through the lens of a counselor and sitting across from people in need for almost three decades.
Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas, Bob was in private practice for 16 years, helping people with every type of struggle imaginable. He then stepped into one of the fasting growing churches in Texas, where he spent nine years developing a discipleship strategy called Freedom Ministry.
Now, Bob with his wife Polly are the Owners and Directors of Think Differently Counseling, Coaching and Connecting; a counseling and training center in Grapevine, Texas. Specializing in freedom based counseling and coaching. They offer topical classes, training events and a Think Differently Training Certification program. Together they feel called to make disciples without building a congregation.
Bob and Polly have six grown kids, four grandchildren, and two corgis.
Do you know people? Then you can be a spiritual leader, regardless of your role or vocation. Don't let the title of this book cause you to conclude that its content will only be useful to those in recognized leadership positions.
This is not a long book. It took me a long time to read because as I read, the way I saw the world (and me in it) changed. It's not just new information, it's a new process.
Think Differently Lead Differently encourages you to change the 'how' not the 'what' of leadership. Bob Hamp clarifies the true mission of Jesus (greatest spiritual leader ever), clearly defines the church and then describes authentic spiritual leadership and authority and what that looks like in practice.
I'm excited to use what I've learned to bring reformation to my heart, home and everyone in my sphere of influence.

This is a Christian classic that should be on everyone's bookshelf. It is so refreshing to read a leadership perspective which takes into account the spiritual side. There are so many golden nuggets of wisdom, revelation and understanding to glean here. However, the biggest take-away that Bob Hamp expounds on so succinctly is that effective leadership hinges on process (Hearing God) not content (gathering information). This is a book I will read over and reference frequently. Bob Hamp understands and clearly articulates Kingdom Life: we exist to receive, contain and broadcast God's presence.
Excellent! This book clearly communicates the necessity of seeking, bringing & expanding the Kingdom of Christ, not our own. Idea strategies and structured organizations (church) often begin this way but run the risk over time to lose sight of Him and focus on building themselves. The author brings us to the point of rememerance we must think differently if we are to lead differently... better. Think Kingdom not world.
