ik vond het erg mooi. verfrissend om eens zo'n oud boek te lezen over hele andere thema's dan in moderne boeken staan.

The greatness of the soul is not a matter of size, of extension in space and/or time. Rather the soul is immaterial, and its greatness is its power, which sets it over all things but God. Consequently, we should take care for the soul more than for the body.
The soul's one teacher is the eternal word within. Good human teachers pose the questions that enable the soul to heed the one Teacher.

A lot of people talk like they know Augustine, but they don't. Far from the big, bad guy of rhetorical history that Murphy kind of makes him out to be, Augustine was all about a specific type of rhetoric in On Christian Teaching (the Christian type. and the teaching type). The Teacher demonstrates a clearly rhetorical take on education--that the teacher doesn't just spew propaganda at the student, but is far from the point of the education.
