The Goblin General

Rate this book
Qod is a goblin--a rather small, unassuming goblin who would much rather be eating rat cracks and reading books at home. And that’s what he was doing when he was conscripted into the Army of the Mist to fight the invading Light forces.

Cannon fodder doesn’t need to be trained, so he’s immediately thrust into battle to sacrifice his life for the Dark. Except that fate has other ideas, and he somehow not only survives the battle but becomes a most unlikely hero.

Goblins are the lowest of the low, and not everyone welcomes his new status. He becomes a pawn for powerful factions. Surviving one battle was hard enough. But how can one young goblin avoid getting killed by not only the Light but by his own Dark leaders?

But sometimes empires can rise and fall on the backs of the least expected. Join Qod as he tries to answer the call.

From retired Marine, USA Today bestseller, and multiple Nebula and Dragon Award finalist Jonathan Brazee comes a military fantasy that’s just a little different than all the others.

Pride and Prejudice

Starting off with prejudice. I am honored and humbled to have been a beta reader for this work. My prejudice comes from wanting to see my name in print other than Navy and theological works. I am proud to have served as a US Navy rabbi chaplain. Most do not know that half of our careers are spent with Marines. It is with pride that I recognize battling uphill protected by recruits lifted from their homes to serve in places with names they could not pronounce. Smells, tastes, even touches bring memories to warriors no matter the species. There is realism in this fiction. Hierarchy is needed. Compassion, care and comfort for all fighting forces MUST be embraced emphasized and enforced. I have been taught through my holy books that the loss of even a single soul is the equivalent of the loss of a universe. Mighty proud that the author points out that "new guy" has a name to be remembered for blessing. It was a privilege to serve under Colonel Brazee and want to see this battle for military understanding continue. It is not good versus evil, or dark versus light that I love about this world. I love that individuals can stand out and be recognized for their worth. That is truly something to celebrate this Thanksgiving.

Very unusual

Everyone is the main character of their own story, and they are always the good guy!
The war between the light and the dark from the other side, from the point of view of a very, very small goblin. Conscripted, dragged from his peaceful little house in a very small town into the army of the dark as a disposable bit of canon fodder.
You will quickly find yourself in sympathy with and even liking Qod, a goblin. Odd thought, liking a goblin.
Not everyone in the war on the dark side is evil, not everyone in the war on the light side is good.
Some of them are like Qod, just doing what they can to stay alive and keep their friends safe.
Read this, if you like fantasy, its very different but interesting, action filled and enjoyable.
You may find yourself with a slightly different viewpoint when you are done, and actually liking a goblin character or two, perhaps even liking a troll.

Enjoyed the change of hearing the side of fantasy races that are normally ignored, the goblins.
