The Death of Me: Deathful Series Book 2

Rate this book
There is a monster in my mind.

A monster who loves taking control when my emotions run wild.

That’s how I hurt my classmate and get into trouble—until a handsome stranger appears to take care of the mess I've created.

Konrad Teivel is a mysterious man with serial killer vibes, but when my foster parents practically hand me over to him on a silver platter, I have no choice but to follow him wherever he goes.

He takes me to a place I did not his home—a castle with white walls but secrets darker than his soul. There, I meet his family and friends, all of whom welcome me with a surprising warmth that he does not possess.

They call themselves my biological parents' friends and treat me like their own, but that only raises more questions in my mind. Where have they been all this time? And why, among all of them, is Konrad the only one who treats me as if I were his worst enemy?

As more people enter my life and the secrets about my family and origins unfold, I finally find out the reason.

However, by then, it's already too late to change the past.

“Luna Thorn may not realise it, but she has at least one person willing to kill for her—and has done so multiple times, both now and in the past. Me.”

After finishing book one, I immediately jumped into this because I NEEDED answers — and let me just say: this book fed me EVERYTHING I was missing from the first one.

This story picks up with Luna finally beginning to uncover the truth about herself, her parents, her powers, and the terrifying world she’s been thrown into. The more secrets unravel, the bigger and darker the story becomes, especially when it comes to Konrad and his connection to her past.

And OH MY GOD, the world-building in this book was SO much stronger. Demons, hybrids, supernatural politics, hidden histories, ancient grudges, magical powers — everything felt bigger, richer, and far more immersive this time around. I loved learning more about the different abilities, the family dynamics, and Luna’s place within all of it.

But the absolute BEST part of this book? Konrad and Luna.❤‍🔥❤‍🔥

This is genuinely one of the slowest slow burns I’ve read in a while, and it WORKED. Their relationship evolves through tension, resentment, misunderstandings, protectiveness, forced proximity, trust, and eventually yearning so intense it physically hurt me.

Konrad starts cold, cruel, and emotionally unavailable, carrying years of guilt, anger, and responsibility on his shoulders. He genuinely believes Luna is tied to the destruction of people he loved, and that hatred affects everything between them.

But watching that slowly change??? TOP TIER.👀🔥

“Yes, I’m glad we’re good now, but why does my heart do those happy dances whenever I see her?”

The more truths come out, the more Konrad realises just how wrong he’s been about Luna — and I loved that his growth wasn’t instant. He actually had to work for her trust.

The tiny acts of care absolutely got to me. The handmade magical jewels he created to protect her, remembering the smallest things about her, bringing her favorite food, constantly watching over her even before he fully understood his feelings… THAT is the kind of character development I eat up every single time.

And what made it even better was that he knew those small gestures could never erase what he put her through, but did it anyway.

And Luna herself was SUCH a strong FMC. What I appreciated most was that the author never made her weak just to make the romance work. Yes, she’s vulnerable. Yes, she struggles emotionally. But she never lets herself become helpless. Even when she’s scared or hurt, she still questions things, stands up for herself, makes reckless decisions out of curiosity, and refuses to simply sit back while everyone hides things from her. I genuinely loved that about her.

Also Gavin/James?? One of the BEST characters in the book. The way he constantly supported Luna while she was figuring everything out made my heart soft.

And the yearning in this book??? INSANE.🤌🤌🔥

The jealousy. The possessiveness. The emotional tension. The “I hate you but would still burn the world for you” energy. EXACTLY what I wanted.

“Blackness envelops me again, but this time, I fall into the warm embrace of the man who didn’t hesitate to risk his life for me.”

The pacing was definitely much stronger compared to book one. Even though this book is LONG, it never truly felt exhausting because there was constantly something happening — secrets unfolding, relationships shifting, powers developing, emotional damage occurring every five chapters…

And honestly? I devoured this 500+ page book in three days. THREE DAYS. That alone says enough.

By the end, I was completely invested in Luna, Konrad, the family, the world, and everything that’s still left unresolved. That ending has me desperate for book three because I NEED more immediately.💯😭❤‍🔥

⚠️Check your triggers⚠️

Thank you to Tori Tomn and Everafter PR for the opportunity to read this intriguing story.

If you loved The Originals, give this series a try!

Overall Thoughts & Emotional Reactions:

After book 1 I was demanding answers! And..well..Tomn delivered…kind of. Did she give me the next steps and show me what happened? Absolutely not! Did she give me the origin story that answered so many more questions than I knew I had? Yes, yes she did. This story takes place several years before the events of book 1.

Watching how Luna’s story unfolded and connecting the Easter eggs from book 1 was so much fun. This book had me giggling, blushing, and ready to toss my kindle on the opposite side of the room. I loved the relationships Luna built with the others as secrets were revealed. Konrad loves few and loves deeply. He was so head strong and determined to hate Luna until long buried truths were revealed. After that, he was so frustratingly self-sacrificing. I had to know how they ended up in book 1 after the pay off of the slow burn, and I was floored with the answers. Honestly, the only problem I had was that this book started when she was 17, but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, happened until long after her 18th birthday. Luckily, that wasn't long into the story.

Tropes:
Grumpy x Sunshine;
High demon society:
Hate to love;
Secret and lies;
Slow burn:
Best friend's daughter;
Identity Reveal;
One bed;
Age gap;
Protective MMC:
Strong FMC

Favorite Quotes:
"Because there is only one way to stop another man from claiming the woman you love. It’s to claim her first.”

“Burning down the world is easy. Saving it is what we’re here for.”

“Blank pages exist to be filled with the stories you choose to write. Don’t hand your pen to someone else just because you’re afraid of what it might do.”

“Many people dislike storms, but without them, our lives would be dull and colorless. Storms bring rain to nourish our seeds and help us grow.”

I received an advanced copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The above opinions are my own.

⭐️ Overall Rating: 4.5/5
🔥 Burn Level: 4/5
🌶️ Spice Level: 2/5
💧 Emotional Impact: 4/5

The Death of Me picks up a few years after the events of book one and finally starts answering many of the questions that were left hanging. If you finished the first book desperate for answers, this sequel delivers while continuing to expand the world and deepen the mystery surrounding Luna’s story.

This book focuses heavily on Luna as we begin connecting the missing pieces from book one. Watching her journey unfold was one of my favorite parts of the story because every revelation added another layer to what we thought we knew.

Konrad was such an interesting character. He is stubborn, headstrong, and determined to dislike Luna for reasons that aren’t immediately clear. As the truth slowly comes to light, the dynamic between them shifts in ways that kept me invested from beginning to end. The slow burn was worth the wait, and I enjoyed watching the walls between them gradually come down.

The High Demon Society world continues to be one of my favorite aspects of this series. There are secrets, lies, hidden truths, and unanswered questions around every corner, making it difficult to stop reading once the story gets moving.

While this isn’t a high-spice romance, the tension between Luna and Konrad carried the story well. Their relationship developed naturally alongside the larger plot, and I appreciated that the romance never overshadowed the world-building and mystery elements.

If you enjoy:
✨ Grumpy x Sunshine
✨ Slow Burn Romance
✨ Age Gap
✨ One Bed
✨ Protective MMC
✨ Strong FMC
✨ Best Friend’s Daughter
✨ Secrets & Lies
✨ Fantasy Romance
✨ High Demon Society

then this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

If you loved book one, you’ll want to pick this one up immediately for the answers alone.

Thank you to Ever After PR for the opportunity to read and review this book. 🤍

I read *The Death of Me* by Tori Tomn as an ARC, and this was a solid supernatural, high demon society read with strong enemies-to-lovers tension and a very slow-burn romance.

When I say slow burn, I mean it—this takes its time. The tension builds steadily throughout most of the book, with any real payoff not coming until very late (around the 90% mark). For readers who enjoy prolonged buildup and emotional tension, this will work well, and for a person that enjoy it right away, the buildup and pay off was *chef's kiss*.

The story follows Luna, who finds herself in serious trouble after setting another girl on fire. Her situation quickly shifts when Konrad appears and tells her she’s coming with him—no real explanation, no clear timeline, and very little control over her own circumstances. From there, Luna is pulled into a world where she’s kept in the dark, decisions are made for her, and trust is hard to come by.

Although this is the second book in a series, I went into it without reading the first and didn’t feel lost. The author does a good job of providing enough context and building the world in a way that still feels accessible to new readers.

Despite being on the longer side, the pacing felt consistent. The story didn’t drag, and the author maintained a strong sense of tension and atmosphere throughout. The world-building was immersive, and the writing kept me connected to Luna’s perspective and emotions.

The book does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that. It definitely left me curious about what happens next, and I’m interested enough to go back and read the first book while waiting for the third.

Overall, I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy darker supernatural romance, strong tension, and a slower-developing relationship set within a layered fantasy world.

✨ARC Review✨

This book took my by surprise from the beginning because while I expected it to continue after events of book 1, it actually goes back in time to focus instead on the events leading up to her time at the academy… or at least some of it. I feel like this added to the experience because it keeps you in the dark with her until the reveals start unravelling.

This is a slower, more mystery-driven romantasy that focuses on tension, unraveling secrets, character relationship dynamics, and political manipulation than big battle scenes and tons of action. I love trying to find clues and figure out where the plot is going, so I enjoyed all the layers to this and the constant feeling that things aren’t what they seem. If you like that too, then this might be your type of book!

It’s definitely a slow burn romance, and I remember being like 60% through, getting frustrated that they were still nowhere near being a couple 🤣 Things change fast though, and it’s fun to watch the shift in the MMC once that happens. I loved seeing his softer side come out for her.

I also loved the found family elements. That trope always lands with me. The friendship between Luna and James is so fun, and I enjoyed the banter between them and the group as a whole.

By the end, I was fully invested and wanting to know what happens next after the ending of book 1!

In Book two, even though you can read this as a stand alone, you find yourself immersed in this world of secrets, history, old grudges, new supernatural beings and the politics that surrounds it all. The world building in this book is phenomenal, it really set the stage for so much more growth. Luna is finally learning about her powers, her parents and this new world she has become a part of. Luna is written with such strength and determination, she is vulnerable and learning but never comes off as a weak FMC who needs saving. Konrad is such a complex character. The more he learns and the more things that are revealed his feelings for Luna begin the slow shift from hate and blame to a lot more. This progression is not thrown at the reader like the past is all forgiven or there is not guilt and trust problems between the characters for the way he had treated Luna in the past. It’s in the littlest thing he begins to do for Luna even before he understands his feelings and how much he protects her expecting nothing in return. The small gestures speak volumes. As the storyline builds all the revelations, powers that are developing, emotional damages and the relationship twists, I found myself more invested in what was going to happen next. Then it ends on a cliffhanger. So, here I sit waiting impatiently for the next book.

*I received an advance reader copy of this book*

So let me start by saying I didn’t read book 1 first. Unless it’s required to understand an arc I usually don’t as I like to just read the ARC and go from there.

I will be buying book 1 when I can because this book was so amazing. The world building is phenomenal. And the LORE! OMG the lore!!! It has to be one of the most unique back stories for demons I have ever heard in my life and I absolutely loved the thought and time the author put in to making all those puzzle pieces click together.

I am a sucker for enemies to lovers and the combination of that plus the slow burn was, well, enticing.

This book explores the many different types of grief and pain in the way everyone mourns Luna’s parents and really goes to show that found family is all one really needs.

5/5 for spice. It’s well written, tasteful, and I spent so much of the book filled with anticipation. Every time I started a new chapter I found myself wondering, “is this when they get together?”

Overall a wonderful read and I look forward to boom 3!!

DNF @85%

This was my first time reading this author, and I really tried to finish this one. I almost DNF'd it around 60%, but decided to keep going because I thought it might get better. Unfortunately, by 85%, I just couldn't continue.

For me, the story felt too long and had too many fillers. I found myself losing interest as the book went on.

I also didn't connect with either of the main characters. Konrad and Luna just weren't for me, and I especially struggled with Luna. I know she went through a lot, but I got tired of her crying over almost everything.

The one thing I did enjoy was the friendship aspect of the story. Those interactions were easily the best part and honestly the main reason I made it this far.

Sadly, this one just wasn't for me. I gave it multiple chances, but in the end, I decided to call it quits.

Thank you Ever After PR and Tori Tomn for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Death of Me by Tori Tomm
Demons? Werewolves? Underground dealings? Violence? Spice? Mystery- this story packs a massive punch!
Luna is young and playing up because she isn’t in a loving foster home and she needs to know love-what she is taken to is life/world changing, literally!
I love James and his nickname ‘Barbie’ reminded me of some friends when i was younger-made the whole story more relatable for me.
This is a dark fantasy read and although its 672 pages may feel like a lot the short chapters and dual pov break things up and make for a really easy read.
The found family in this book is one of my favourite tropes and written so well, age gap? How about a few thousand years plus the fated mates twist was a nice addition 🥰
If you want a new fantasy rec from me its this one-out 26th May!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat!!

From the very first chapter, I was intrigued by this mysterious blue flame, and how an accident involving Luna at her school turned into the catalyst that changed her life forever.

This story follows Luna as she discovers her past and is submerged into an entirely new world she didn’t know existed. Tori Tomn does an excellent job with world building and creating a slow burn romance with just the perfect amount of tension. What captivated me the most was the unexpected twists and turns throughout the story. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next, especially with Konrad as the MMC who is possessive, controlling, and has the perfect amount of alpha male energy.

If you’re into a slow burn, dark fantasy romance set in a high demon society world, then this book is for you. You won’t want to put this book down.

Holy smokes! After reading the first book, I was a little unsure of how much I would like this one. But it was so freaking good! Like 10/10.

This book literally kept me on my toes. It’s a dark fantasy with otherworldly creatures, and a girl who is coming into herself with the help of some unlikely friends.

I loved watching our FMC, Luna, grow and learn to navigate in this new world that she didn’t know about. She’s so young and resilient.
And let’s not forget about our MMC Konrad. He’s dark and grumpy. Everything I love in an MMC.
I love me a good slow burn, with yearning and jealousy. This was a perfect mixture of everything I needed.
I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to read this book and I CANNOT WAIT for the third book to come out! The cliffhanger was something else.

This was everything book one was missing for me. This story hugely benefited from being longer—massively longer (700+ pages. Yes please 🖤). It gave the world-building room to breathe and let the relationship develop naturally.

This was the slowest of slow burns (seriously, two years pass 👀), but I loved watching the progression from hatred to complete devotion. There’s something ridiculously satisfying about seeing a grumpy MMC gradually soften, and Konrad delivered. Add in touch-her-and-die energy and I’m already listening.

More immersive than book 1, the pacing was on point. I am so invested in Luna and Konrad. I went into this cautiously after book 1 and came out genuinely excited for book 3.

Reading the Death of Me is an exciting and emotional fantasy novel that mixes mystery, danger, and supernatural elements. The story follows a girl who escaped from demons and is now trying to heal while attending Phoenix Academy, a school for people with extraordinary powers called Nonexistings.

One thing I liked about this book was the dark and suspenseful atmosphere. The author keeps the reader interested by adding mystery and tension throughout the story. The main character feels realistic because she struggles with fear, healing, and trusting others after everything she has experienced.

Overall, this book is a great choice for readers who enjoy supernatural fantasy, action, and mystery.

This story has me sucked right in! Luna's story is super interesting and honestly it was nice to read a different take on demons. When it says a slow burn, it seriously means a slow burn. Book 1 introduces you to Luna, while book 2 takes you back to the past and starts to build the world and characters talked about in the first book. This was a long read, worth it but I did struggle with the length a few times. Konrad is one of those characters where you hate to love him throughout most of the book, then he becomes someone you are completely routing for! Ends on cliffhanger, so hopefully don't have to wait to long for book 3 to find out more of Lunas past and after when Konrad is finally reunited with his mate!

Recieved ARC from author

After reading the first book, I was intrigued into Luna's story and how things came about and who Konrad was...
This is a prequel and is the lead upto book 1. If you have not read the first one, its a cliffhanger for you! It is a very very slow burn... I nearly DNF'd at around 40% of the way through with it been such a big book and not feeling like I was getting much out of it.
Im glad I didn't though, the further in I got, the more I fell in love with the family. It was good to see things bloom between everyone
The book is over the span of 2 years! There is alot that happens and helps you understand the war that is going on with the king and Prince.

HOLY CRAP!
It's currently 2am & I couldn't put this book down until I finished it.
I went into this book not having read the first one, & I honestly don't think I needed to bc this book had it all... the world building, the introduction to the characters, the plot. OMG. The yearning from the MMC was killing me 😭😭 (in a good way). I believe Konrad is a new book boyfriend. I love him!
If you're looking for a fantasy read that has enemies to friends to lovers, high demon society, grumpy x sunshine, a yearning man, slow burn, and a lot of "touch her & you will die." Then this is for you!!
I will be on the lookout for the next book bc I can't get over that cliffhanger 😵‍💫

Ok, first of all, let's get the important things out of the way. When does book 3 come out??? I NEED to know what happens next!! I absolutely fell in love with the characters in her new family. There are so many secrets revealed, twists and turns to the story and different emotions you're made to feel at different points in the book, that it's a wild ride. I was so immersed in the world, plot, and characters that the author developed. I couldn't stop turning the pages, yet I didn't want it to end! And then it ends on a cliffhanger.🙁 I was wondering how much I was going to like it after book 1, but it delivered! So, so good!!!!

This book absolutely sucked me in right away. The tension between Konrad and Luna was a major part of this book and honestly I was begging them to finally give in literally the entire book! This was a slow, slow burn!! The found family in this book was probably one of my favorite parts. Luna’s relationship with James and Vanessa really made this book so much better. I loved watching Luna’s evolution throughout the book. I absolutely need the next book like right now!

Omg! omg. Noooo what the actual hell. I'm not crying, whyyyyy.

Wow, I don't know where to start I need more.
This was truly amazingly done, I couldn't put it down once I started especially after reading The death of us.
The story of Luna was not what I expected or Konrads. I truly loved this though and that's why it's so heartbreaking.
The slow burn was truly worth it and made it even more special

I won't be able to stop thinking about this book now and wonder what happens next.

Just finished reading this book, it had me hooked from the beginning.

This is the second book in the series. It follows Luna and Konrad's story, three years prior from book one. There's a lot of details and has a slow-burn romance. I loved her and James friendship throughout the story.
Can't wait for the next book in the series!

This was a very informative and interesting second book in a series. This is in a sense a prequel where we get a lot of answers regarding the happenings before book one. However, now there are even more questions based on what we learn. There is also finally some amazing spice after the slowest burn in the history of slow burns!!!

I can't wait for book 3!!! There's demons and magic and vampires and shifters!

"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” The Death of Me is a dark, captivating contemporary fantasy that plunges you into a world of hidden origins and psychological tension. When Luna’s chaotic inner monster exposes her to danger, she is bound to Konrad Teivel, a mysterious man with a chilling aura. The story expertly weaves a web of family secrets and sharp romantic friction that keeps everyone hooked until the final, tragic revelation. I loved it. 💛

I’m mad about.

In the way, that I cannot wait for book 3. Talk about a slow burn and world building nightmare. The struggle, the tension, the reveals, the absolute chaos I want to see coming. This was sooo much longer than book 1 and for good reason. I need to reread book 1 to catch all the little details I now have context for.

Now I need book 3, please Tori.
