Continue to give this series the whiplash award for how many times I whip my head around to my phone to look up what new character just got introduced, lol. Absolutely love seeing all of these familiar faces pop up or get name dropped or get actually dropped to the floor with bullets, lol. And this was one of the most exciting issues yet, not just because of the spy thriller stuff, because we got to see Jo truly take a moment to vent and reflect on all the craziness that has happened in a human way instead of talking in myths, lol. But our story starts in a very similar way to the others, with a vision, a circle, and a warning to be with fear. Except this time the recipient is Steven Dayton, and of that names sounds familiar you may remember his connection to the doom patrol when you hear he is using the mento machine to tap into this vision. The vision warns him the dark world is coming closer and to warn everyone, to be with fear and fear the face of steel. We meet a character at the end of this issue with a metal face but it is not one of steel and looks vastly different from the face at the start which makes me wonder even more what that could be warning about. Suddenly there is a knock at the door and the machine fizzles out, Steven walks over with his gun to get the code words to let his partner in, none other than TERRY GODDAMN LONG! OMG, NO, NO, NO, NO! You self insert bastard, you aren’t supposed to make it over to this universe, lol. As Terry comes in with the groceries, the two discuss the nature of the project and the visions Dayton is trying to confirm are real and not just hallucinations but after seeing the message over and over again he believes he has made contact to external life. Dayton is really sitting with this realization that he actually did it, only for Terry to turn around and gun him down with a silenced pistol from his grocery bag. The real Terry died when he gave the hitman his countersign. But the hitman tells him not to feel bad, after all Terry was selling him out to Hector Hammond anyway. But where is his manors? This hitman introduces himself as Keith, and with a spritz of chemicals from his shirt button the false face goes away to reveal his true face and name on this mission is nemesis. Keith then makes a call back to Hector Hammond where he is connected to his secretary for the countersign code words to confirm it is safe. We find out later on that secretary is none other than Carol Ferris! After the formalities were finished, Keith confirmed Terry and Steven are dead and the mento device is secure. But Hector doesn’t need him there any longer, instead he had a new job for him and the name is of course Jo Mullein.

We now jump over to Cameron Chase’s apartment where she is wanting more answers, specifically how long Jo’s boyfriend is going to be crashing on her couch. Obviously Jo has to correct that Hal is not her boyfriend and there is something wrong with him now that he has been sleeping for over 24 hours. The two then get into it a bit about their relationship and the nature of it, was there truly love there, was Jo unaware and being manipulated, are they just two disasters drawn to one another? All these questions and more that really aren’t properly answered here, but during Jo’s arguing with Cameron and getting out all of her frustrations about her situation she made a slip that Chase caught…she mentioned the bird guy, that like her, is also being hunted because they are anomalies. Chase caught the bird guy comment and latched onto it, Jo hasn’t mentioned that yet. Chase just can’t drop things like this, it’s in her nature. Jo explains that he is Tomar Re, and like her he got the power he wields by accident. When her golden wedding ring absorbed Abin Sur’s power she saw the visions of Tomar Re, the black star, and Sinestro, and Tomar looked back and saw her as well. Chase is the first one to realize it when she asks Jo to take off her ring. It’s entirely possible that the ring is what absorbed the power not Jo, or maybe there is some dormant power inside of her as well. Jo suddenly reaches over and takes it off…and she stops glowing, back to normal. Chase snatches it out of her hand and puts it on her own hand, proceeding to slam down and break the coffee table. It definitely gave her a bit of extra power but not as much as it does for Jo. Chase hands it back for Jo to keep safe and for the power to protect her, and just like before Cameron immediately starts heading for the door. She needs to make a dead drop and contact Simon Baz, her partner, she thinks he can be trusted but she doesn’t know about his new partner and she definitely doesn’t know about their boss, Johnny Double, but compared to everyone she doesn’t think she can do this without Simon.

We now jump over to the offices of the super secret branch of the government Chase works for as Simon and his new partner Kari Limbo (YEP, Guy Gardner’s ex in the comics and precog!) have been called into a meeting with their boss, Johnny Double, for a status report on their current job and to see how they are doing as partners. Kari does have one question for Simon…what’s with the mask? Turns out Simon went up against Dr Silence (doom patrol villain) and got a souvenir…just like silence, he can’t see his own naked face or he will cease to exist. OOOOF, that is rough. Simon has been assigned to the evergreen incident and from the state trooper dash cam footage we saw in some of the first issues he has Hal Jordan’s name. He doesn’t have much else but he did search through Hal’s social media and found someone he knew…Jo Mullein, who he knows from Chase’s wedding to her and is buddies with Hal. He doesn’t think Chase is mixed up in this but even if she told Simon he wouldn’t tell Johnny. Double orders them to meet up the good wok and follow the lead and meet him for lunch tomorrow for another update, but as soon as the pair leave Johnny calls Hector Hammond and relays all the same information.

As we check back in on Jo, following Chase’s orders to write down everything she can remember from her visions, she suddenly gets a knock at the door…only to hear John Stewart on the other side calling for her. Jo already has her ring on and is able to use it to look through the door and confirm it really looks like him…even of he is wearing a strange suit. Only to open the door and be met with a silenced gold bullet right through the shoulder! This is nemesis and using social media he was able to get a face scan and vocal changer to march John. As for the gold weakness, apparently Hector got that intelligence from Todd Rice. Last time we saw him he was a bundle of black goop…what are they doing to my boy?! Jo tries to flare up and fight back, only to get another holler in the gut. Suddenly Keith already the same substance to reveal his true face and is impressed that Jo is not staying down. But unlike last time his call sign is not nemesis, this time he sprays the substance once more to cover his face in a new mask and reveal his call sign is gold face! Nemesis and gold face?! Tricky bastards, didn’t see that coming at all and honestly that is perfect for the nemesis name, lol. Not so good for Jo though.

Maybe it's just me but I really really disliked how Jo was trying to make herself look right with cheating Drama because she wasn't given enough attention by her wife... okay? you feel neglected and uncomfortable in relationship that doesn't give you any right to cheat on your partner just break up and be with whoever you want to, I really liked her in previous issue because it just made her look like a complex character but even attempting to make herself look right in that situation is pretty stupid. Just break up with your partner before you decide to sleep with people it's that easy if you don't do that there's no good excuse, and I feel like accusing Cam of taking advantage of her was out of nowhere it just seems like she doesn't want to take any accountability and I hope that's not the case. other than that it's very interesting and dramatic issue with many interesting characters getting introduced and this last two issues were objectively a huge improvement.

genuinely great depiction of a toxic relationship ending because both genuinely aren't meant for each other and using psych buzzwords without actually being cringy, like love bombing without it sounding too much like pandering to social media usage of those words. And then the alien bullshit comes up and I stop caring, I'm sorry but the sapphic relationship drama is easily the most interesting part of absolute green lantern.

The world of Absolute Green Lantern is filling up with intriguing characters. The mix of secret agents and mystic interstellar gods, helmed by Al Ewing, is compelling. This issue sets some things up, and I’ll be reading to see how they play out.

I amreally enjoying the Cam and Jo drama. This agent is bad news and the amount of double crossing and betrayal is very high right now. All of these elements make this a fun and compelling read.
