Sometimes you meet a person and it’s the wrong moment, the wrong city, the wrong life…Sometimes it takes years for both of you to be ready to fall in love… Simon Cowen’s life is as neatly tailored as his bespoke suits, everything and everyone in a particular place. Just because a person works on the shadier side of legality, doesn’t mean they have to be uncivilized. It’s this control that has made Simon good at his job. His parents were soulmates, but Simon decided a long time ago that he had no desire to ever be so weak to another person. Weakness didn’t fit into his neatly framed life. He certainly had no interest in falling in love with the sloppy, flirtatious Luc Allard. Or at least, that’s what he told himself. When an accident on a con job causes Simon to bond to Luc, he must relearn what it means to put his life in someone else’s hands. More soulbonding, more exotic locations, and more about two men learning how to be in love.
A great read, with soulmates and con artists and tough guys with hearts of gold. Some of the plot details happen too quickly/easily, but the romance is solid. Mutual pining! Soulmates! Misunderstandings over what sex means! It's a fun quick little read. You'll like it. ;)
For a short book it was really good. There was a few parts i wasn't crazy about but the over all feel of the characters and the interaction of simon and luc made up for it.
This is such a unique take on soulmates, and the development of their relationship is done at a wonderful pace, but the climax and ending weren’t the most satisfying. Luc is heartbreaking several times because he obviously cares so much and the right way, but Simon can’t see it~ Luc finding Simon working in the garden was precious and the way they have the connection and how it works is precious, but I feel like I wanted more. Overall, though, a great short story with a unique and wonderful take on soulmate tropes.
Good short stories, novellas, are really hard to write. You've got to introduce your characters fast, but with enough back story to catch & hold the readers interest. Then you have to have a great plot with several surprise twists & turns that are interesting enough to keep the reader invested in the story. Lia has done this & more. Now she has me wondering what will happen next to our little group of "Morally Questionable" characters. I'm hooked, even though I know I'll be answering all my questions myself since I'm not sensing any sequels being written anytime soon.
Hmmm, while I enjoyed this book immensely I felt the storyline moved rather slowly. The characters were great albeit aloof. Don't get me wrong I liked the book but couldn't connect to it.
