“A ‘World’s Fittest Santa’ contest? Please tell me you’re joking."
My store manager is in fact not joking.
All I want for Christmas this year is to finally quit my job and figure out what the hell I’m doing with my life. Instead, here I am, auditioning sexy, shirtless men in fake white beards so hundreds of horny mall shoppers can sit on their laps.
A dream come true for some women, I’m sure.
For me? This is my personal nightmare.
As a former professional dancer, my days of excessive exercise and counting calories are behind me. The last thing I need is a Santa with a six-pack.
But that is exactly what I get when my instant nemesis is crowned our winner, and I’m promoted to his personal “Santa Handler.”
Santa is supposed to be ancient and generous and kind. This guy is young. And arrogant. And obtuse. Case in this is a man who regularly boasts about going “balls deep into Christmas.” Basically, he is everything I hate about the fitness industry tied up in one glistening, muscle-bound package.
So why am I fantasizing about unwrapping him to see what’s underneath?
Santa Has a Six-Pack is a balls-to-the wall enemies-to-lovers Christmas romcom from USA Today Bestselling Author Erin Mallon

* 4.25 stars * This was absolutely perfect for the Holidays! I didn’t realize how much I needed a romcom right now after reading some horror books last month, but Matt and Penny had me cracking up and feeling lighter! I still can’t get over his ‘Santa has a six pack’ rap audition, I would have been on the floor crying if I witnessed that! There were some serious moments but all in all, this was an upbeat Christmas romance that definitely got me in the spirit for the holidays and I can’t wait for Eugene’s book next year! Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke did an amazing job bringing the characters and their awesome personalities to life!
** Audio Review ** Merry Missile Ho! Santa Has a Six-Pack by Erin Mallon is a hilarious, heartfelt holiday romcom that left me feeling oh so festive and filled with so much holiday cheer! Erin always wows me with her comedic charm and witty banter, and Penny and Matt’s enemies to lovers, tension filled light-hearted romance did not disappoint. This Christmas gem will be enjoyed year after year for many holiday seasons to come!
Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke perform this audiobook in dual narration, and this pairing is one my fave narrator dream teams. Erin is in her element, showcasing Penny’s grumpy sass along with her softer vulnerable moments when handling more serious moments with Penny’s mom. Jason in a romcom is my absolute fave! (The RAP!) His lighter, expressive voice is spot on, conveying Matt’s gooey cinnamon roll golden retriever demeanor making this man even more loveable. Plus, both narrators create the perfect amount of longing, lust, and love between Penny and Matt.
Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a holiday romcom with a sassy department store employee, a world's fittest Santa, dedicated best friends, awkward tension, festive raps, seven minutes in heaven, strenuous gym workouts, sitting on Santa’s lap, Thanksgiving Day parades, family drama, healing from the past, intimate conversations, spiral ham, keeping secrets, loyalty, spicy times, love declarations, grand gestures, and a HEA that will make merry in your heart, then you will love Penny and Matt. I always look forward to more from Erin Mallon!
The way I couldn’t stop listening to this once I started and I had a smile on my face the whole time. “Santa Has a Six-Pack” is swoony, flirty and laugh out loud workplace holiday rom-com that was such a fun book to get into the holiday spirit with.
To change things up this year at the retail store Penny works at, they are going to have a “World’s Fittest Santa” contest. This is a dream for most but for Penny it brings up bad memories from her dancing days when they were seen as nothing but an object. And the Santa that was chosen… does indeed have a six-pack. Matt co-owns a gym with his best friend and the money he makes from it could help grow his business more. With her background, Penny is given the task of “Santa Handler” and the energetic gym owner is the last person she wants to be around during the holiday season. But she can’t seem to stop thinking about what is under the Santa suit.
From the very first chapter, this book was so much fun and I loved every chapter. Penny was an instant like for me and someone I connected with. Penny is genuine, kind and I loved how big she dreams and wants to open a positive dance studio for kids. She’s a great advocate for everyone and I loved her protectiveness over making sure the Santa auditioners were seen as people and not as objects. And who doesn’t love a man who is positive, kind and has all the energy in the world. Matt is funny, loyal and was the perfect Santa. I loved his audition and was drawn to him just like Penny. As with any Erin Mallon book, the banter was top tier and had me laughing nonstop at their shenanigans. And the emotions in this story had me in all my feels in the best possible way. They might have started as reluctant coworkers but the way in which they were in each other’s support when it mattered the most was my favorite part. I loved the ending and I can’t wait for the next book.
Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon narrated this audio and I loved listening to them bring Matt and Penny to life. Jason brought the charismatic and genuine Matt to life perfectly and his rapping skills are sick. Erin, of course, was amazing. Her narration was genuine, fun and vulnerable just like Penny. I think it’s pretty special when the writer can bring her characters alive in their own audiobooks.
Okay, let me plead my case because I swore this was going to be an easy 5 stars (or at least a 4.5). I’ve sat with it… but I keep circling back to the ending. So this entire review is marked for SPOILERS, you have been warned:
I was already irritated by the whole: “Please don’t tell Matt about Eleanor and Tag,” and “It’s not your story to tell.”
I’m sorry… but it kinda IS, though.
You’re dating his best friend. You’re now in the middle of this messy situation because of that connection. And Eugene isn’t just casually dating Eleanor — they’re ENGAGED. As in: wedding in a MONTH engaged. And you still think it’s not your place to tell him his fiancée is cheating on him with your best friend’s husband??
Be serious.
Then when everything finally comes to light… Matt is (rightfully!!) upset. And yet everyone is so quick to brush it off with, “He shouldn’t be mad,” and “It wasn’t her place to say anything.”
I’m sitting here like: PARDON???
What do you mean it wasn’t her place? Is everyone living on a different plane of reality?? The man explicitly said he doesn’t like liars — and this was a MASSIVE lie by omission. He is absolutely allowed to be upset.
And THEN… the groveling. Tell me why it was suddenly all on MATT to fix things???
What now??? How does that make any sense??
The worst part is that up until this entire situation blew up, I was eating this book UP. The chemistry? So good. The spice? Phenomenal. The narrators? Chef’s kiss. But I can’t move past how everything unfolded once the truth came out. The logic wasn’t logic-ing.
It completely derailed what could’ve been a perfect read for me.

Erin Mallon proves she's just as talented behind the pen as she is behind the mic with this delightful workplace romance. Penny and Matt's grumpy-meets-sunshine love story had me grinning from start to finish. Between the laugh-out-loud moments and the unexpectedly tender scenes, this book hit all the right notes.
What to Expect: - Holiday Romcom - Grumpy + Sunshine - Cinnamon Roll MMC - Workplace Romance - Opposites Attract - Enemies to Lovers - He Falls First - Fake Dating
The magic is in how well these two opposites click. Matt's optimistic energy perfectly balances Penny's more reserved, cautious nature. Their witty back-and-forth feels natural, and you can sense the real connection building as they help each other heal from past hurts. It's genuinely heartwarming stuff wrapped up in holiday cheer.
🎧 Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon are phenomenal together, capturing every bit of humor and emotion in the story. They embody their characters so well that Penny and Matt feel like real people. And did I mention Jason raps? Because he does, and it's fantastic. The audio made an already wonderful story even more entertaining - one I couldn't stop listening to!
When Penny’s department store decides to hire a sexy Santa for the holidays, Matt shows up to audition and lands the job. What follows is a delightful enemies to lovers story as Penny and Matt are forced to work side by side, their banter turning into undeniable chemistry. The book is packed with sweet, funny, and heartwarming moments, all wrapped up in festive charm.
Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke shine as Penny and Matt. Erin perfectly captures Penny’s sassy yet vulnerable side, while Jason’s performance brings Matt’s golden retriever energy to life.
This is an irresistibly cute holiday romance that deserves a spot on your holiday TBR!
I literally saw Erin Mallon's Instagram post with her rapping the song for his book, then learned it was Jason Clarke who was actually going to rap the song in the book, and I was sold!! and the audiobook did not disappoint!!
Guyssss, when I say I laughed out loud so many times... omg, did I ever!! I listened to this in one sitting and it was absolutely the dose of laughter I needed after the hellish week I had last week.
This book is flirty, funny, and FUN! It also has its tender, heartwarming moments. 10/10 recommend adding to your holiday tbr!
🎧 I always love Erin as a FMC, especially one that is sassy with witty banter. It was amazing to listen to not just her as Penny but it be her own writing. She is hilarious! @jasonclarkereads narrated Matt perfectly. The charismatic? Spotttt onnnn. The awkward ramblings? Quirky and hilariously done. And omg, the rap!!! lol! I could picture everything so well! This is def gonna be a top contender for fave audiobooks this year!
🎄 grumpy/sunshine 🎅🏻 workplace romance 🎄 he falls first 🎅🏻 holiday romcom
Erin Mallon has entered the author chat! This was so fun and festive and I ate up every second of it! The audio is of course amazing. I was cackling while I listened. Matt is truly balls deep into Christmas (lol) and Penny is a bit of a grump when it comes to the holiday. Workplace romance with the best cast. This was just the perfect holiday rom-com!
What to Expect: - Holiday Romcom - Grumpy + Sunshine - Cinnamon Roll MMC - Workplace Romance - Opposites Attract - Enemies to Lovers - He Falls First - Fake Dating - Dual POV - Dual Narration
My Thoughts: Not only is Erin Mallon an amazing narrator of rom-coms, but she writes amazing ones, too. I loved Penny and Matt's grumpy/sunshine workplace romance. It is super sweet, funny, a little bit steamy, and it kept me smiling the whole time. Matt's ‘Santa Has a Six Pack’ audition was hilarious, and I still can't over it! The awkward moments and fun shenanigans truly made me laugh out loud. Some moments hit me in the feels. I loved Penny and Matt's dynamic and the support they gave each other. They are two opposites that absolutely worked well together. Matt is all sunshine, and Penny is a bit more grumpy and guarded. I loved their banter, and their chemistry felt real. Penny and Matt both have emotional scars from their pasts, and it was so satisfying watching them connect on a deeper level. This book is absolutely perfect for the holidays and has all the ingredients and fun vibes to put you in the holiday spirit.
Narration: Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke performed this audiobook in dual-style narration. These two are a magical duo! I loved every second of their performances. Erin and Jason were the perfect voices for Penny and Matt, and really brought them to life. They both are so funny! Jason raps. I repeat, JASON RAPS! This story is unique and incredible, and the audio took it to the next level. I had so much fun listening!
Thanks to Erin Mallon for the early review opportunity. Opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely loved this hilarious, heartfelt, and steamy romance! This incredibly entertaining story had me laughing out loud as I devoured every word! Penny works for a department store and her team dreams up a 'Fittest Santa Contest' to make this holiday more interesting. Penny is not happy because exercise was a nightmare for her when she was a young dancer. Now she dreams of making dancing fun for young kids. Matt is a teacher who has also opened a new fitness gym and is struggling to make it work. The prize money for this contest would help immensely. His audition is so hilarious and he wins over Penny's two colleagues but she is still skeptical, despite her attraction to him. Matt is so upbeat and no matter how sideways each situation goes, he is determined to make Penny happy. As they spend time together, they learn more about how these opposites may have heartbreaking pasts that allow them to understand and each other, as their attraction heats up as well. I loved the build of this story, the banter between Matt and Penny, and their chemistry was amazing! There were so many hilarious and awkward situations that had me laughing out loud, and many sweet, touching moments as well that made me swoon. I always love Mallon's stories because she really knows how to combine loveable quirky characters into a wonderfully heartfelt story filled with love, humor, and heat. Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon were so perfect as Matt and Penny. They really put themselves out there, being just as outrageous in their deliveries as they were tender and passionate. I loved how their humor, chemistry, and easy ability to make this wonderful holiday story bring laughter and joy as it warmed my heart.
Guys, this was so cute and funny! Any Christmas rom-com lover will absolutely eat this up 🎅❤️
Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke are two of my favorite audiobook narrators, so when I found out Erin wrote this —and that it’s a romantic comedy where Jason gets to show off his acting chops—I knew I had to grab it immediately.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Based on the title alone, I thought it might be dumb or silly—but I was pleasantly surprised. This story has a lot of depth, featuring two people dealing with some real-life shit. Erin does a great job balancing those heavier moments with a heartwarming, funny plot that you can’t help but adore.
I had a smile on my face the entire time I was listening to it. It’s the perfect feel-good holiday book. It leans more into the romance than the Christmas vibes, but it’s still festive for the season and a whole lot of fun 🎄✨
And let’s talk about Matt Barbera—oh man, what a guy. Top-tier book boyfriend for sure 😍🔥 Jason Clarke absolutely brings his A-game here. No one could have brought Matt to life better than he did. He’s always great, but he really shines in this one. 10/10 performance 👏🏻👏🏻 Definitely go for the audiobook with this one!
Full of laughs and holiday cheer with a side of family dysfunction that’ll make you feel like you’re not quite alone. The narration was perfection. Can’t wait for the next one!
This book was major Christmas season candy! They each have feelings of “meh” towards the holiday season for different reasons but as they get to know each other over a two month period they get close to each other and inspire each other to open up toward Christmas a little bit more.
Matt is the biggest cinnamon roll hero! He’s so sweet and upbeat and joyful to be around.
Penny starts off a bit grumpy and is not sure about the fit Santa event the store is running but she meets Matt whom she falls for and Eugene whom she becomes friends with (more behind the scenes on that one) out of the deal so she changes her opinion on it over the two month period lol
They are so much fun together and I seriously enjoyed them as characters and their story!
This book was amazing and I wish we didn’t have to wait a whole year for the next one lol
This epic story was brought to life by our author/narrator extraordinaire Erin Mallon and the downright amazing Jason Clarke!
The humor in this was amazing and these two played it up beautifully!
Santa Has A Six-Pack by Erin Mallon Narrated by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke First in a Christmas RomCom Duet, but it Stands Alone. 4.5 Stars Thank you Erin Mallon for an early copy of Santa has a Six-Pack for review.
Erin Mallon has the kind of humor I love. It’s sweet and sexy, a little immature in the best way, and it makes you giggle out loud while still bringing all the feels. Since Erin is a narrator first and narrates her own stories, she writes with audio in mind, which makes the experience even better. Add Jason Clarke’s comedic timing and you have a great audiobook.
“This is the year I’m going balls deep into Christmas”
Santa Has a Six Pack was so much fun. I had a goofy grin on my face the whole time I listened, and I was honestly disappointed when it was over. I didn’t want to wait a whole year for the next one.
Penny is a former dancer who now works in a department store. Because of her dance background, she is put in charge of a new marketing campaign to find the World’s Fittest Santa to help boost sporting goods sales.
When Matt, a school teacher and owner of a new local gym, walks in for the audition, his rap (delivered perfectly by Jason Clarke) wins over the judges. Penny feels an immediate and reluctant pull toward the man she will now be working with as Santa.
“Penny.” He reaches a hand in my direction. “Would you do me the honor of mounting my equipment?”
Penny and Matt end up doing a series of fitness-themed Christmas events, and while Penny tries to treat Matt like the enemy, he never really is. Their attraction simmers from the moment their eyes meet (well at least when her eyes met his abs). Matt is a total cinnamon roll and I adored him, along with his friend Eugene. Penny is a little grinchy at first, but she won me over quickly. Their chemistry is spot on and I enjoyed the slow burn so much.
Erin Mallon is great at creating smart, quirky characters who are easy to love. Even with its light and fun vibe, the story touches on tougher topics like eating disorders, body image, and Alzheimer’s, and Erin handles every moment with care without ever weighing the story down.
The Narration: Erin Mallon voicing her own characters is always perfect, and Jason Clarke matches her energy so well. Erin and Jason are one of my favorite narrator combinations and they proved why here. I highly recommend the audio (who can resist Jason Clarke rapping?). This story feels designed for listeners.
The Down & Dirty: Santa Has a Six Pack by Erin Mallon is a sweet and sexy holiday romance with lovable characters that genuinely made me laugh out loud. The cinnamon roll hero and slightly grumpy heroine made such a fun match, and the ending made me so excited for next year’s book. I just don’t want to wait that long.
If you want a feel-good Christmas romance that will put you in a festive mood and make you giggle, pick up Santa Has a Six Pack.
Rating: 4.5 stars, 2.5 heat, 5 narration Purchase Santa Has A Six-Pack by Erin Mallon Kindle | Paperback | Audible
Erin Mallon wrote it. Erin Mallon narrates it (with the always-fabulous Jason Clarke). What more do you need to know? Just read it already. You’ll love it. Santa Has a Six-Pack will have you laughing from the very beginning to the very end. And picturing that sexy spandex Santa suit. And wondering if haterousal is a thing.
Penny Whitaker is kind of a mess. A grumpy, often hilarious mess. Her innermost thoughts – that often just pop right out of her mouth without her brain being able to stop them – will have you doubled over with laughter. She’s a grumpy mess with good reason, though. She hadn’t planned to spend ten years working at Herald’s Department Store in New York City; she loves to dance, but her career as a dancer was torture. Her parents are demanding, cold and distant, and her love life has been a series of disasters with self-absorbed men. No fond memories of Christmas, either, so being put in charge of Herald’s World’s Fittest Santa Contest doesn’t exactly bring holiday joy to her heart.
Matt Barbera is kind of a mess, too. A cocky, confident man-child who hasn’t lit the world on fire with his success – at least not so far. But he has reasons for his weirdness, too. He’s had to put his mother in a care home, is struggling financially, and his main holiday memory is of his father dying on that day when Matt was ten years old.
Put these two messes together and you get a wonderful story that is touching and tender, funny and steamy, and completely entertaining and satisfying. Penny has built walls; if she’s grumpy people will stay away and she won’t get hurt again. Matt has taken the opposite approach: there’s a silver lining in everything. He’s optimistic and exuberant, perfect when he’s teaching fifth-graders, but a little annoying to Penny. Maybe a lot annoying because she can’t help the attraction she feels toward Matt. When she first saw him she was stunned speechless and her only reaction was to close the door in his face. Smooth. Matt? He was smitten from the start.
Author Mallon gives us entertainment on every page: joint workout demos, Santa Hour with the kids and with the (swooning, salivating) adults, promo videos at Bossfit Brooklyn, trips to see all the parents, a couple of dirty, rotten cheaters perfect. Erin Mallon captures every one of Penny’s emotions. The weariness, the hurts from childhood that won’t go away, the frustration, the ridiculous thoughts and actions and the heat/lust/love? for Matt and the calm that surrounds her whenever she is in his presence. Jason Clarke with the deep, rumbly voice can make you believe everything Matt is feeling the over-the-top optimism, the just-a-little-outside-the-lines weirdness, the and a supporting cast of true, blue friends for both Penny and Matt and appropriately evil villains, all set in New York City so colorfully described you’ll feel you are there. Matt, Penny(wise), Keira, Dottie, Eugene, Leo, Elinor and Tagg are characters you’ll want to see more of. Well, most of them, anyway.
And that narration? It couldn’t be more old pain and hurt and the current worries, the cocky, flirty, fit, handsome gym owner and the man who feels an almost actual tether to Penny. From the moment he met her he’s been unable to stay away from her – and unable to stop himself from blurting out totally inappropriate and oh, so funny things. Mallon and Clarke both deliver outstanding performances. As always.
I received both advance reading and listening copies of Santa Has a Six-Pack from the author as part of her review team. To say I enjoyed it is a vast understatement. I devoured it, and after the little hint at the end of this book I can’t wait for the next one. I voluntarily leave this review. All opinions are my own.
Santas, six packs, rapping and incredible humor…this holiday romcom was so much fun and I could not stop smiling!!! Matt and Penny’s story has a crazy first meeting, with tons of banter and awkward encounters, but I loved that beneath it all there was also a heartwarming storyline that allowed Penny and Matt to grow closer together. Overall, this is a book that will cheer you right up this holiday season and a MUST listen on audio!!
I was instantly hooked into this unique storyline!! It all begins when the store that Penny has worked at for years, holds auditions for the world’s fittest Santa to help boost their sporting goods sales. She is not a fan at all. Meanwhile, Matt and his friend, Eugene own a newer gym that doesn’t make a profit yet and Matt also needs help pay for his mother’s care facility. When Matt finds out about the contest and that the winning Santa gets ten grand, he is all in to try out! And so the auditions begin where they meet…🤭
🎧AUDIO REVIEW: Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke were an absolutely delight in this dual narration!! They brought so much life to these characters with their passionate performance and had me laughing and smiling right along with Matt & Penny! These two are perfection when narrating together!
First, Erin is INCREDIBLE as she not only wrote this story but also brought her own character to LIFE! She truly embodied Penny with her vibrant tone and brought out all her grumpiness and snarky banter with Matt! She also was fantastic at using so much feeling in her voice to showcase the depth of Penny when discussing her past eating disorder and family issues.
Jason absolutely nailed his performance as Matt, the six pack Santa!! This man even does a long, hilarious rap in this audiobook that had me DYING!!!! It was remarkable and felt like I was watching it all go down😂 Jason was so much fun in this performance and completely captured Matt’s upbeat and sunshine personality! His lighter, masculine tone was perfect in this romcom and brought out Matt’s charming and hilarious personality.
Overall, Erin delivered an incredible story, not only writing it but also on audio!!! This is a holiday romance that will have you laughing out loud and warming your heart while listening!!
Erin Mallon is one of my favourite narrators and when I saw that she had written a Christmas rom-com I knew this was going to be good!
The premise is New York department store worker (and ex dancer) Penny is reluctantly in charge of recruiting a sexy new Santa for the store this year. Enter Matt, our golden retriever, uber positive and over the top teacher/gym owner who auditions for the Santa job to make extra money to help his gym business and to look after his mother.
Sparks fly in this grumpy/sunshine workplace romance, with Matt falling first and Penny trying (and failing) to resist……… “It’s ok Penny…. Santa likes it rough”
This is a slow burn, moving from sizzling chemistry, to friends, and finally to that perfect and romantic HEA. This book also explores deeper themes such as a past eating disorder, dementia, and complicated family dynamics. It is about forgiveness and healing.
I listened to this book while on holiday in the sun last week and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I laughed so hard laying by the pool at that audition rap scene! I had a few odd looks from other holiday makers (oops - #sorrynotsorry). Jason Clarke absolutely nailed this one! Such a fun performance! I mean the Cotton Ball Crotch and the North Pole Troll (LMAO). I loved the bromance between Matt and Eugene. Erin did an amazing job of Penny, conveying her vulnerability and sass perfectly. I loved the end where Erin describes her inspiration for the book.
This audio is a romantic and funny comfort blanket that will put a smile on your face this Christmas. Thank you so much to the author for the ALC. The audio is released on 10th November.
I am excited for book two, Eugene and Kiera’s story!
This story is so sweet! A perfect palate cleanse and fun way to start the Holiday season.
I listened to the audiobook and I'm so in love with the narrators, Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon. They are both in my top 3 and I feel a great narrator can really make or break a book for me.
I actually laughed out loud so many times, probably the most during Matt's rap for his audition to be the world's fittest Santa. Jason Clarke nailed that scene! Erin Mallon authoring the book and narrating Penny was perfect because who knows the character better than the author? She really brought Penny to life!
I'm already on my second listen. The first listen was while recovering from oral surgery and this audiobook was exactly what I needed. Now that I'm feeling mostly healed and not feeling a little loopy I'm listening again and I am enjoying it even more (especially now that laughing doesn't hurt).
This is kind of enemies to lovers as there was initial attraction, but also something that made the 2 refuse their attraction and engage in some great banter.
Penny is a bit grouchy to Matt's sunshine and it works really well for this story. We see her soft side many times and she unfolds beautifully throughout the book.
Also a slow burn, but they are friends for a lot of the story, they spend time together, they enjoy each other's company, and they are funny!
Matt is a little awkward, kind of weird and his mouth just says all the things. But it's adorable and fun and it works for him, like really works for him!
The side characters are great, I can't wait to get to know them more in future books.
Not overly spicy at all. Their story is the main focus with just a tiny spice.
There is a third act breakup.
HEA!
And a lead into another book starring our favorite side characters!!

Romcom genius Erin Mallon has done it again! If you’re looking for a holiday read that is cover-to-cover humor and heart, run and grab Santa Has A Six-Pack! This charming and hysterical love story had me snort-laughing and swooning from start to finish. In an effort to boost pre-holiday sales, Penny Whitaker was tasked with finding a unique personality to play Santa for Harold’s Department Store. Enter Matt Barbera. He’s the gym owner, personal trainer, and phys ed teacher with a whole lot of energy and a big heart to match. I fluffing loved these two! Their banter, the snark, Matt’s awkwardness around Penny, their scorching chemistry, it was all epic! Erin writes enchanting, lovable characters, poignant, layered plots, and authentic comedy that will leave you smiling and chuckling for days. Erin’s vivid imagery and marvelous storytelling made me laugh, swoon, reminisce about my swole days, and relate deeply with Penny & Matt’s lived experiences. Healing through humor is a love language I will always appreciate!
Santa Has A Six-Pack is a dual first person POV, phenomenally performed in dual-style narration by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. These two always brighten my day when they join forces and their top-tier talents shine! Erin is a romcom queen, and I adore hearing her breathe life into the characters she creates. Penny is a marvelously complex and beguiling book bestie; I enjoyed her lovely arc! Jason is amazing as Matt Barbera!! Honestly, you have to hear this one for yourself to fully understand the awesomeness of this quirky, effervescent, seductive character and Jason’s perfection in this performance! This will be an annual holiday listen for me!
✨Thanks to Erin Mallon for the advanced copy of this wacky and wonderful audiobook!
Santa Has a Six Pack is a fun and festive holiday rom-com. Penny works at Herald's department store, where they have decided to host a "World's Fittest Santa" contest. The winner ends up being Matt, a high energy, gym bro. Or so Penny assumes about him, having a smidge of dislike for guys like Matt, who care about working out and their six pack. Penny is given the job of being the "Santa Handler" much to her horror, but slowly learns there is more to Matt than just his...six pack. This story is so fun! It is perfectly festive, and has a longer timeline than the average holiday romance, which I liked because the characters really got to know each other. Penny is a wonderful character, although she seems "uppity" from an outside perspective, she is really just trying to figure out how to start her true dream job of owning a dance studio. Matt, who owns a gym, is also way more than meets the eye, once Penny gets to know him better. This story touches on some harsher aspects of life, but in a way that keeps the book real and personal for the characters, but still very upbeat, because those past hurts have led Penny and Matt to where they are now. Matt, being the "World's Fittest Santa" contest winner, gets to be Santa at Herald's, and the best part, there is an adults time slot where hoards of women stand in line to sit on sexy Santa's lap. One of the best scenes is when Penny herself takes a seat on Santa, and things heat up instantly inside Santa's little makeshift house. This is a fun rom-com you will enjoy, and find yourself laughing quite a bit!!
Some fav quotes: ""Would you do me the honor of mounting my equipement?""
""My butt is directly over your man region and-" "My man region doesn't mind," he rumbles."
"What is my life right now? I'm dressed as Santa Claus, grinding all over this hot-as-hell woman who just a few days ago couldn't stand the sight of me. Now suddenly, she seems all in. Halle-freaking-lujah."
"The moment Matt's lips touch mine, my entire body responds. We're no longer in a crowded room..."
""Penny, I was ready for you the moment I met you. I've just been trying to be a gentleman all this time.""
I listened to this in one sitting and loved everything about it. Penny works for a department store, and they’ve just announced they will be looking for the ‘World’s fittest Santa’. Enter Matt, the co-owner of a gym and schoolteacher with golden retriever energy for days.
This is pure romcom fun including Santa tryouts that had me cackling, top tier banter, and characters you can’t get enough of. Along with the humor, there’s a ton of heart in this book. Penny agrees to help Matt direct the kids holiday play. It’s chaotic in the best way but will tug at your heartstrings. Penny has a challenging relationship with her mother and past insecurities from her dancing career. Matt is the perfect counterpart and showed great care and tenderness with Penny.
Duet narration by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. Erin obviously writes with audio in mind, and it shows. Their performances grabbed you from the beginning and you feel like you’re experiencing things with them. It flows perfectly. Erin embodied Penny and delivered her vulnerability, joy, and heart. Jason was a delight as Matt. He was funny, fierce, and the swoon factor was off the charts.
The story also sets up book two, and I can’t wait. This should be added to everyone’s holiday listening. It’s funny, heartfelt, with great character development, and was entertaining from start to finish. I couldn’t stop smiling.
What a entertaining and positivity affirming addition to any holiday reading list. Erin Mallon's grasp of the rom com genre is top notch, she manages to flawlessly weave together emotion, great characters and festivity. She handles sensitive, highly emotive subjects with such grace and empathy. Those subjects aren't there as 'a tick box exercise', they are an intrinsic part of the story of Penny and Matt. This is a Christmas story where Christmas is (everywhere) throughout the story, the actual backbone of it, but it isn't obnoxiously in your face or saccharinely sweet with every cliché. Both Penny and Matt have well developed back stories which brings depth to the story as they are explored. Matt positivity is infectious and the way he is her champion and is happy to just be her friend is refreshing. Penny's sass is on point & her vulnerability is authentic. When Matt first takes Penny to meet his mum, in the memory care facility, the way Penny goes along her presumption is (touching and) perfect. How Matt reacts at Penny's parents party... partner goals!
Erin is my favourite female narrator. I would listen to her read the encyclopedia & enjoy it. Her voice elevates words off the page, but even more so when she is narrating her own words, it seems intimate. Jason Clarke as Matt was an amazing choice. His voice complements Erin's immaculately. His narration of Matt's audition piece was hilarious. They just work so well together. I'm loving this duet.
This book dropped in my inbox at the perfect time. If you need a little holiday pickup, this is the book for you! I laughed throughout the entire story. Erin Mallon is able to mesh comedy with real world issues people face.
Penny works at a Herald’s that hosts an annual Thanksgiving parade (not THAT store). This year, they’ve decided to have a fittest Santa contest to be their holiday Santa. It’s at the audition where she meets Matt, a fitness guy who owns a gym. As they’re working together, slowly Matt starts to thaw Penny’s icy walls.
Penny is hardworking and feisty! I love it when authors flip the script with grumpy/sunshine. As she rediscovers an old passion, Penny opens herself up to love. I love her friends! Everyone should have friends that will root for you. Matt is the best kind of cinnamon roll! He’s patient, supportive, and hits all of my love languages. My favorite scenes are his interactions at work.
I listened to the audiobook, which was performed in dual by Erin and Jason Clarke. These two are some of the best in the biz with dual narration. And their kid voices are top tier! I highly recommend listening to the audiobook! Matt’s audition might be the funniest scene I’ve heard from Jason. He needs to be in more comedy! Erin knows how to write funny. I love her Natural History series too. This one is right up at the top with Love Bug for me.
Once I started listening to Santa Has a Six-Pack, I could not stop! It was such a fun holiday rom-com delight, with tons of hilarious Erin Mallon shenanigans to keep you ho-ho-ho'ing all the way through.
Penny, a former dancer, is reluctant when she's put in charge of her department store's Worlds Fittest Santa competition. Santa is NOT supposed to be shirtless and buff! But when her co-judges crown Matt the winner, despite her protests, she goes along and tries to make the best of it. When their chemistry gets away from them, they somehow wind up in the friend zone, even though neither of them actually wants to be there! Luckily Matt finds his way out and the connection that the two of them develop is really genuine and heartfelt.
I loved listening to this audio, narrated by Erin herself and Jason Clarke in duet. They both really brought the heart to their characters. Jason's portrayal of Matt's over-the-top exuberance at inopportune times was spot on for the material, and Erin's portrayal of Penny really showcased how hard it was for her to open up about her dancer past and her family dynamics.
If Santa Has a Six-Pack doesn't leave you smiling and in the holiday spirit, then you may be a grinch.
Santa has a Six Pack is my kind of holiday story! Matt is the sun shiniest cinnamon roll MMC He is always energetic and even though he has difficult things in his life, it never shows on the outside. Penny is a bit of the grumpy to his sunshine. I really loved the characters in this book, their hysterical conversations and and the ways that Penny and Matt became friends and supported each other. This book has mild spice but lots of character development and heart. Erin Mallon created multidimensional characters that feel real. I laughed out loud many times and can't wait to revisit this crew in the next book.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke and as the writer and narrator I expected that Erin would portray Penny with exceptional comedic timing, and she absolutely does. What I was not expecting was just how much I would love Jason Clarke in this comedic role! He really went for it with his performance and it was probably one of his best performances that I have heard.
This book is the perfect holiday book, whether you are fan of Christmas romances, or not you will fall in love with Penny and Matt.
I received an ARC and ALC of this book and voluntarily give my honest review.
I absolutely loved this one! This book had the best of everything- comedy, witty writing, tenderness, chemistry, fantastic main and side characters, great communication, and a wonderful love story. This was such a unique storyline, but also felt so perfect for the season.
Erin Mallom created a world within NYC that I could picture and imagine. These small spaces within the large city. Something about that contrast did it for me. Penny and Matt were both so likable, so believable as main characters. I love how they gave each other exactly what they needed to be better versions of themselves. They really were the perfect match.
This audio was fantastic. I love Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke paired together on an audio. Erin's narration felt so conversational, like I was experiencing it while it was happening. Something about how she narrates makes me want to be her character's friend every time. She brought Penny to life. Rom-com Jason Clarke might be my favorite. He was hilarious, but also had the perfect vibrance for Matt. It wasn't all golden retriever energy. He had these really tender moments, and a cadence that made you feel such a deep connection to him and the story. What a fantastic book!
