A biscuit bake-off is the perfect way to start the holiday season. Unless, of course, the secret ingredient is murder …
Callie thought things at her bed and breakfast were finally calming down. But fate has other plans in store for her and her old hound dog. After the champion of a local biscuit contest is murdered, the murder weapon is traced to her best friend.
As if that weren’t enough, the whole town of Honeysuckle Bend has been shaken up. There is a new police chief in town, and he sounds like he’s from the big city. Mrs. Evelyn has stepped up as mayor. And Callie’s ex-flame Micah has been reunited with his long-presumed-dead wife. All of this adds a layer of difficulty to clearing Maya’s good name.
And the real murderer could still be out there. How will the gang get out of this one?
Find out in this tight cozy full of southern charm, lovable characters, and a mystery that will have you guessing until the very last moments. Coming in Jan 2026! Fans of Ellie Alexander, Tonya Kappes, and Katie Gayle say they “can’t put this book series down!”
Omg I did not expect that plot twist of an ending! Goosebumps! I was already thinking I would like to read an alternate ending (before I read the ACTUAL ending) but that plot twist is gold haha
I absolutely love the Honeysuckle Bend series. Its my favourite palette cleanser to date. I've come to love all the characters, especially Maya! Theres always so many twists, its never straight forward and easy to guess who did it, and I love that. I'm really enjoying that the side plots are getting more developed at this stage. I'm enjoying watching how the characters are developing and whats going on with them.
But also, that ending??? Pevey, what are you doing to me with these endings?!
Halloween is just around the corner in Honeysuckle Bend, and Callie and Maya are attempting to enjoy the season by hosting a campfire bake-off. While Callie is still dealing with the fallout of a surprise (and rather unwanted) visitor in town, she pushes down her feelings as much as she can to focus on promoting business at Myrtlebough and supporting her beloved small-town life and community.
That community is changing a bit with the arrival of a new police chief—who has caught Callie’s eye, but isn’t being given the warmest of receptions by everyone. He’s a city boy and just doesn’t seem to fit in. Longtime residents of Honeysuckle Bend will always be suspicious of newcomers; it’s unknown if their suspicions of this new chief are warranted or not.
One town resident is noticeably absent from the bake-off, despite it being his specialty. Obviously he must be wrapped up in quite serious matters, and things are not how they used to be. Callie struggles to figure out what the future will look like but uncertainty reigns supreme.
Before any new normal can be established, and in fact not long after the original normal is upended, Maya faces a drastic and life-changing accusation. She and Callie must do their best to vindicate Maya, restore the trust that binds citizens of the town, and tread lightly under the gaze of the new police chief.
Modern politics and practices are sweeping into Honeysuckle Bend, but the extent to which they’ll take hold remains to be seen. The city’s full cast of characters is affected, from the up-and-coming restaurateur to the former high school football star, from train conductor to Mayor and benefactor Evelyn Charpentier. The balance of necessary modernization with respectful revitalization again arises as subject matter in this cozy series, never expressed heavy-handedly but simply as an inevitable and enduring question in locales with long, rich histories and townsfolk with strong ties to place.
Alongside the unchanging questions of small-town life are the inevitable changes: new residents mean new relationships. And longtime residents begin to form new relationships, too. While Maya and Callie’s friendship endures, their world is broadening with the formation of new connections and expanding networks. But as this particular installment of the series wraps up, it’s clear that some social circles touching the lives of Callie and Maya are networks they never intended—or wanted—to interact with… though they may have little choice in the future.
This was a very interesting story. To find out who killed the friend they had to start investing again. Micah and Terri were in the picture but luckily only Terri was the guilty one. Maya is in loved with Casey who you his job back after the undercover got Terri. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Callie and Maya had this idea of a biscuit competition. They thought it was going well until Callie finds the winner of the competition dead! Good mystery!
An enjoyable mystery a little rough on Maya when the whole town turns their back and blame her for the murder so Callie and Maya have to work hard on clearing the blame on Maya The mystery gets more complicated with Micah and leaves us hanging
