“A wise man once said: ‘We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us.’”
I loved going on these crazy and adrenaline pumping adventures with Carrie! What an adrenaline rush! Carrie is everything I expected her to be, coming from Ethan Jones, no surprise. Carrie demonstrates a resilient attitude, having to go solo in a hostile environment. Also, it’s a lonely life of an operative, always having to put her dangerous job before her personal life, her family..a sad outcome, even though she enjoyed her excitement of her line of work. Intense and action filled, remorseless and deadly enemies, a continent full of greedy governments and cold blooded and traitorous police and military forces, a country full of despair, faulty politicians, huge inequality between social status, crude, harsh, gritty and sad outlook, it pulled at my emotional strings, a grim reality, completely related to our present day situation. An excellent first book of the series. I’m absolutely following this series too! Next read, Codename: Makarov.

Welcome, Carrie!

I liked this character in the Justin Hall books and I am very happy she now has her "own" series! Ethan Jones can really write the spy plots and I relish reading this new series. Always well written and seem to have all the details right too! Highly entertaining as well! Read and enjoy!

It seems improbable that The Canadian Intelligence Service (CIS) has the resources (including generous funding, plenty of safe houses, etc.) and personnel to keep Carrie in the field at the pace she maintains. If Canada actually has this kind of presence in the world of CIA, MI6, SAS, the SEALS…. It truly is one of the planet’s best-kept secrets.
But Ethan Jones knows how to portray exotic, impoverished, war-stricken, and opulent locations in such a way the reader can see the people, smell the rot, fear the impending attack, and hear the bullets passing by, as well as the accelerated heartbeats of the operatives and the innocent bystanders.
And he is consistently highly effective with his ability to keep readers entertained for three or four hours per novel, with stories such as Priority Target

Priority Target (Carrie Chronicles #1) by Ethan Jones is an excellent spy adventure that is a non-stop that has a strong female lead. Love that in a book. Nothing gets by this gal. There is lots of action, intrigue, twists and turns as she tries to find who is responsible for the deliberate drone strikes on civilian sites. This book has a little of everything, even a little romance. The characters are well developed and the plot planned to perfection. Excellent job. I normally don't read military books but because this had a female in it, I gave it a try and loved it. Believable and enjoyable. Fast action and stunning in the facts. Made you feel like you where there. Great job. Received this copy for honest review.

Priority Target is the first book in the Carrie Chronicles series. If you have read the Justin Hall books you should recognize Carrie. This can be read as a standalone, but it does end in a soft cliffhanger for the next book. There is violence.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This is a well written espionage thriller. If you like female lead characters who can get the job done, you will enjoy this book. As usual, not everyone and everything is at it appears. Even though the storyline is fairly predictable, I enjoyed the book. I look forward to reading more of this series.

Gee, I must like Ethan Jones; I keep reading his books. More good guys who are really bad. Carrie O'Connor is a talented agent and lucky. Perhaps a bit too much excitement in this book. It does, however establish her as a good agent. My next book will not be by Mr. Jones, because I owe another favorite author who I am on her Advanced Reader Team. You can bet that my next read after I meet that commitment will be another Ethan Jones book.

I don't generally post reviews of books that I didn't particularly like (mostly because books are a deeply personal thing, and authors work hard at their craft, regardless of whether I liked the book or not), but this book irked me in ways that I felt the need to express.
I started reading it because I like action/adventure/thriller books, but the main protagonist in these types of books is almost always male. In this case, the author made a deliberate choice to have a female protagonist, and I was intrigued.
Unfortunately, the book was a disappointment. The plot was quite interesting and was well-paced, so that was a plus. But if you are going to write a female protagonist, you're going to have to do better at differentiating the protagonist than throwaway lines like "I put on mascara and lipstick" or "I brushed my hair and put it in a ponytail." There *are* differences between a male and a female protagonist that go beyond hair, makeup, and clothing. Not exploring those differences shows a lamentable lack of imagination by the author.
So I'm passing on this series. If you are interested in female protagonists in thrillers, I highly recommend Greg Rucka's Queen and Country series. At least the female protagonist in his books is not messing with her lipstick.

Another tale from the Canadian Intelligence service and the Carrie Chronicles. Carrie and felllow operative have been sent to Somalia to investigate the drone attack on a supposed terrorist leader only to find that the terrorists has escaped and there were heavy civilian casualties. They become targets as the man behind the drone attacks tries to cover them up.

“A wise man once said: ‘We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us.’” “Who said that? Churchill?”
Although the character isn't sure if Churchill said the quote, it is accurately attributed by the guess. If said today, Churchill would acknowledge that "rough men and women stand ready..."

With the opening setting in Somalia, I was immediately riveted and invested in the life of Carrie O’Connor Special Operative of the Canadian Intelligence Service (CIS) learning "I heard the bad news about the courier’s death just as I was preparing for the operation." The action never stops! Sometimes in the midst of a mission, another takes priority. Then there is a botched drone strike (or has there been more than one?) and it appears someone in the CIA is responsible. But who?

As a reader I'm automatically creating a visual of the setting, characters, events, etc. but when a setting is in a foreign country that I only know from news broadcasts and with character experiences so unfamiliar to my own I am more dependent on the author to convey this during his/her storytelling. Ethan Jones never falters with his descriptive writing style. Two of my favorite descriptors were “The Cessna shook like a rag doll in the hands of a tantrum – throwing toddler…” and “darkness soaked up the truck’s dim headlights.” I felt like I was on the flight experiencing that severe turbulence and back on the ground I was in the truck leaning forward straining to see out the windshield.

Personal lives are set aside as missions are carried out and each moment could be the last moment of one's breath. I was in awe of Carrie and the author seamlessly put me in the frame learning her missions, her ethics, her thoughts, her planning techniques, her steps to minimize failure, and elevate safety and security for herself and her local contact and trusted operative. Plausible deniability for Carrie's boss was realistic.

I won't hesitate to read more of this series.

If you like the Justin Hall series, you will like this series with Carrie O’Connor. If you haven’t read the Justin Hall books, you will still like this new series with Carrie O’Connor.

Ethan Jones has done it again. As a teammate of Justin Hall in his series, Carrie now has her own series. Keeping true to his writing style, Ethan has created a female agent ready to take on the world in order to protect her Canadian homeland. In her first book, Carrie is sent to Somalia in search of a war lord. With the help of some agents, Carrie learns of a drone strike that was initially meant for the war lord, but instead, numerous innocent men, women and children were killed. Was this intentional or a mistake. Carrie is determined to stay on task, as well as try to find the truth about the strike.

With minimal characters, the flow is steady and easy to keep reading until the end. Never underestimate the power of a woman. A few references to Justin Hall as a way to keep the two characters in touch, but even if you have not read any Justin Hall books, you will not be left behind to the references. Loaded with action, Carrie does not disappoint, nor does her character overdo the female in charge. She is believable, as any trained female agent could be, nothing outrageous or over the top.

Priority Target
The Carrie Chronicles #1
By Ethan Jones

Ethan Jones has done it again. A fast paced spy thriller starring a member of CIS (Canada's equivalent to the CIA). But this time the focus is on Carrie O'Connor. Having worked in the past with Justin Hall we now get to know Carrie better as she takes on a mission to stop a known terrorist. But nothing ever works out just as planned and complications add to an already delicate situation.

But Carrie's complications can be summed up with three little letters C.I.A. Using the skills one has come to expect from her over the years Carrie does what she does best. This is the first book in the Carrie Chronicles with the second due for release shortly so you won't have a long wait wondering what comes next.

Get to know Carrie O'Connor as she deals with her day-to-day life both professionally and personally. This another engaging and entertaining story from Ethan Jones. If you haven't read his work in the past give it a start with Priority Target. Then you can check-out Justin Hall - Carrie's sometime partner in stopping international criminal terrorism.

I was provided an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Priority Target - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Ethan Jones is already the Master of the International Spy-Thriller, with his Canadian versions of James Bond, Justin Hall and Javid Pierce, who are both excellent CIS agents, with many exciting adventures under their belts.
Yet the Master has become a maestro of his art, with the creation of his delightfully feisty, courageous and attractive female version of the former, Carrie O'Connor.
She's a no-nonsense, knock-'em-dead (literally at times), always gets her man, one-woman anti-terror force of nature and integrity, who'll stop at nothing to root out corruption in high places in one scene and then risk life and (nearly) limb, to save innocents in the next!

What happens in Mogadishu will stay in 'Mog', if the wicked have their way, regardless of who takes the fall for their crimes. Can Carrie reveal the truth and get out in one piece?

Only getting your copy of Ethan Jones's Priority Target - Book 1 in A Carrie Chronicles Spy-Thriller: Action, Mystery, Espionage and Suspense series will give you all the answers you need.
Don't forget to make it your Priority Target!

“Priority Target” centers around CIS Agent Carrie O’Connor, who the readers first met when she was working with Justin Hall. As Carrie’s current mission in Somalia winds down, and she readies herself to return home, she is contacted by an old friend. What Carrie thinks is going to be a meal and a chance to catch up however, quickly turns into a new assignment…a “24 hours…in and out” assignment. But nothing ever goes as planned.

What starts as a task to confirm the death of a terrorist, quickly turns sideways when Carrie and Josh Barrett, a CIA Agent, find themselves in the middle of a drone strike, from friendly forces. A strike that Josh tries to abort before it is too late. But his contact refuses to listen, and Josh, along with many other innocent people, die. This leaves Carrie determined to get to the bottom of the SNAFU. She pulls out all of the stops to avenge the death of a friend, and to stop the man behind it.

Ethan Jones packed a lot of action in this novella. The reader should be prepared to read this in one sitting, because he won’t want to put it down.

This is the 1st book in the Carrie series. Carrie is in Somalia to carry out an assassination of a terrorist leader. While working to accomplish her task, she is directed to assist a CIA agent in extracting him out of Somalia. When Carrie contacts the agent, she finds that this is not exactly what she was told. In performing this task, she has to endure a great deal of attacks related to the rescued parties. Later on, she is requested to assist the CIA with another task over and above what was requested earlier. In this one, she is asked to assist the other CIA agent with confirmation that a drone strike eliminated a different group of terrorist leaders. This activity was not as simple as she thought it would be.

To find out whether Carrie was able to complete her original assignment, discover why when helping the CIA in the 1st request, and what event occurred in the 2nd request which had her travel to a different country then Somalia, then you must read this book. This will really whet your appetite for other stories in this series.

This book starts out with a bang. No kidding.

Carrie O'Conner, Special Operative of the Canadian Intelligence Service (CIS), is in Mogadishu, Somalia when she gets a warning from a local contact that her latest mission, important though it may be, is aborted and she needs to leave immediately. So, not far out from her door, she gets attacked by four gunmen and bullets are exchanged. Carrie survived the attack. Then the adventure begins.

Later on, Carrie experiences a Hellfire missile land nearby resulting in needless destruction and death due to "collateral damage". Her investigation of the event then defines her next mission as a personal one, a "priority target".

Ethan Jones' writing style provides a detailed description of Carrie's thoughts and mission planning, and events throughout the book. It is unique in that you find yourself as an unseen observer within the book sensing, hearing, and seeing all of the action from beginning to end. It's a real and unexpected treat.

I received this book through LibraryThing's member's giveaway. This was a good book with plenty of action and a great heroine. I would recommend it to others. However, I felt like the book ended too fast. Just when it seemed like it was getting really god it was over and I felt like it could have gone on longer, maybe been developed a little more fully. Also, one point that I would like to make: the use of actual make and model names of weapons seems to be gaining popularity among this genre of books. Although I have grown accustomed to this, even though it seemed cumbersome at first, the full use of make and model of weapons between two highly trained operatives seemed really forced. Other than that, it was a good read.

We've seen her as the trusted partner in the Justin Hall series, but she's always struck me as so much more than just a sidekick, I'm so excited to see Carrie step into the spotlight of her own series. I found it to be a fairly quick read filled with a lot of action. I remember seeing a statement somewhere along the lines of: the best laid battle plans go all to hell as soon as the forces engage; and Carrie's time in Somalia is proof of that axiom. Her one simple mission turns into detour after detour to satisfy honor and justice. This is an excellent start to Carrie's solo story arc - and this time out, Justin's her sidekick.

Can you get justice for your friend without getting killed as well? Carrie was meant to get in kill the target then move on but this assignment hasn't gone as planned. She has had to rescue a SAS member and his girlfriend and that has caused even more problems but she has been given some damning evidence against the CIA.
He friend Josh has just been killed and she will go after whoever was responsible even if they think that they are untouchable. Her engagement has just fallen apart, her mother has taken a bad fall and they don't know if she will survive the latest surgery and yet Carrie knows that she will take the new assignment and just get it done.
A great story full of action. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Carrie O'Conner gets her own book! Perhaps even better than her appearance with her sometimes partner, Justin Sloan. Priority Target is, in every sense of the word , a thriller set in the Middle East. With each book he writes Ethan Jones continues to polish his craft, with this spin-off book being better written & more satisfying than his Justin Sloan books. Priority Target steadily builds to a climax and this time its personal. Never forgetting that this is a thriller that has to continue to drive to that climax. The interesting twist is that the main characters are Canadian although that is not as apparent in this book as in his Justin Sloan books. A very good read I look forward to Carrie's next solo novel.

Super read. Action-packed and full of suspense.

Had this on my to-be-read pile for a while, but was a little reluctant to open it, worried that it wouldn't have the tension, suspense or action of the Justin Hall series. Just goes to prove what an absolutely remarkable example of an idiot I am! Every, single bit as good as any other Ethan Jones novel, perhaps more stressful to read knowing Carrie's on her lonesome, relying on others as her backup rather than Justin Hall.

The action's relentless, the tension extreme and the characters remarkably good. Exhausting, but a very satisfying read!

Priority Target is the first in the Carrie O’Connor series and it hits the ground running & it hits hard.
This is another superb Ethan Jones action thriller. This time we follow CIS operative Carrie O’Connor as she undertakes a mission in Mogadishu before being asked to take on a side mission. Things are maybe not quite what they seem and Carrie has a tough job working out who to trust. Carrie is a tough no nonsense operative with a strong sense of right and wrong and bringing justice to those that think they can avoid it. This is a great action novel that’s full of firefights, fistfights, tension and mystery from an author at the top of the genre, recommended.

"Priority Target" is Book One in the (then) new Carrie series by Ethan Jones. Mr. Jones continues in his excellent way of introducing & developing characters. Carrie is an operative in the Canadian Intelligence Service. She's in Somalia at the beginning of the story on a priority mission to take out a bad guy. Her mission is aborted & she's attacked almost immediately. Things change & she's teamed up with the US CIA on a mission ... but ... Carrie seems to have uncovered incompetence or worse in the CIA's drone program. As with all of Mr. Jones' books, there's no shortage of excitement & adventure. Give it a read. I highly recommend this book & all of Ethan Jones books.

I enjoyed reading about Carrie in the Justin Hall series and I am glad to see that she is getting her own series in the Carrie Chronicles. Priority Target takes you on a fast paced adventure with Carrie attempting to confirm a drone attack actually eliminated the intended target. The story has the twists and turns one expects of a thriller and provided for a good read. I liked that Carrie has her own style (not a clone of Justin Hall) which proves to be very effective. All in all, Priority Target is a good story that left me looking forward to the Carrie’s next assignment.

Ethan Jones has hit another home run with this new series. It's a real barnburner, a real page turner that is nonstop action from the first page to the very last page. Having met Carrie first as a character in a Justin Hall thriller I had no doubt that in a series of her own that she would be a winner, but the truth is that the first book in the Carrie series even exceeded my highest expectations and I look forward to reading each new volume as they become available. Five stars doesn't do yhis bok justice, I would have liked to give it a solid ten starts. Give me more Carrie!!!!
